Meh. I wish I could give it more, but it would have required A LOT more for this non-foodie out-of-towner that has experienced similar places but 4 or 5/5 stars. First, the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. 2/5 stars. It's alright if you're in middle school or high school, but it's not a hip place to bring a date for the first time if you're an adult in your 20s. It's almost kind of grungy, actually. Walls are made of foam/plastic "tile" that's all scuffed up and barely hanging on with tape. Mismatched, random "decoration" on the wall you'd expect to see at your Cantonese auntie/mom/grandma's house. I honestly wouldn't care (because that's what I grew up with) if the food or service made up for it, but the rest of our experience fell flat. I'm no expert, but it looks like we were given an abbreviated menu? I would've wanted the shaved ice cream, but we got a menu that raved and raved about their "most popular" shaved ice, so that's what we planned to order. Second, service - 1/5 stars. The waitress took forever and a day to take our order. (Yes, the place filled up after we came.) Two other parties that came after us had their orders taken and also got their orders before us. They left before our food even came. The waitress didn't seem to give us the time of day when we had questions about the menu - it was like we were an inconvenience or something. She could've acknowledged the wait or ANYTHING, but nope. Then when we hesitated, her body language was like she had rolled her eyes. I guess that's what we tolerate from high schoolers nowadays? I'm from the States and I'm used to Canadiens being overly polite to a fault. I can't wait to experience what I'm used to. When we drove away, my wife admitted she forgot to leave a tip. Oops. I didn't say anything. Third, portion size. 4/5 stars. I wanted to get one large bowl but got overruled and we got two medium bowls for two adults and three kids (decently full from dinner already). If you're considering the same thing, GET THE LARGE BOWL. It's cheaper ($20 versus $28), more awesome-looking, and pretty much has the same count of toppings (8 versus 4) and same volume - if not more of shaved ice. Fourth, quality of the ingredients of the shaved ice. Probably middle of the road. 3/5 stars. In the end, I should give this place 3/5 stars, but I'd be lying to you if I said wasn't bothered with the service that dragged the score down. I won't be returning and I couldn't recommend it when you have TONS of other options in a place jam-packed with Asians. I wish it the best and I hope it improves. read more

They had a mix of any two pancakes for $10 deal so I tried their strawberry nutella pancake and their tiramisu pancake. I would give both of those a 3.5/5. The filling was not bad, just like how you would imagine it to take but the pancake that it was wrapped in had a different texture. It left an aftertaste and I wasn't the biggest fan. Super busy dessert place on the NE corner of Alderbridge and No.3. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall lot, but it can get full thanks to the adjacent restaurants. The interior is fairly beaten up and dated. Nothing wrong with that though. Oh yeah, the place is pretty small, so if it's full, expect to stand outside for a while. Selection is pretty decent. I LOVE icey bar and always have for numerous years. I didn't go though for about 3 years and can say they've really improved their icy's and amped up their menus with new desserts. The matcha crepe cake was sooo delicious, you can tell they use good ingredients and good amounts of quality matcha. They're sporadically busy and not busy throughout the day. A few weeks when I went we got our order almost immediately but last week it took quite a while because there were big parties seated. So I was in town for the weekend and stopped by their shop and it's a much better experience than waiting in line being pushed around during the night market. I haven't visited this place even though we live close by. During the hot wave days it was too hot for us to stay at home, so we decided to go visit somewhere we can enjoy some cold dessert. Their menu has a lot of variety and it's quite intensive. It took me a while to go through them and make a decision. It's one of the few restaurants that allowed dine-in after the ease of the restriction, which made us very happy because we can sit comfortably to enjoy the dessert. They are known for the shaved icy which comes with a lot of toppings to choose from. If you don't know what to get, you can also choose from the special Icy menu which has less choices but preset, and you just have to choose which kind you like. That's what we did, and we are quite happy with our choice. My daughter loves mango and strawberry, and she was so happy to have both in one bowl! It's a pretty big portion so I do recommend to share if you don't think you can finish the whole thing to yourself. It also comes with the condense milk which you can pour on the ice after finishing the toppings. It makes the ice so much sweeter! We'll definitely go back and explore more on the menu. Unlike some places that blend real mango to get a brighter vibrant yellow and thicker consistency, this one seemed diluted with coconut milk, water and sweetened with sugar. There was a decent amount of mango bits though some were stringy. The oddest thing is the addition of a few colourful jelly. Overall, it wasn't very good. My bf said the flavour of the durian sticky rice was good, but the rice was too hard. It tasted like normal rice versus a dessert. His final comment was that the dessert was "very mediocre". I did not personally try the white fungus dessert or black sesame soup so cannot comment on them. Overall, the quality of icy bar has definitely gone down. Came here with a group of friends around 10:30 PM. I was surprised the shop was still packed with people at that hour. Luckily we got a table shortly after a group had left, but they didn't do a good job cleaning it because there was still syrup stains all over. I ordered the shaved ice with 8 toppings to share with two other people. Some of the toppings that we wanted were not available because they were sold out. We were a little bummed about that, but we just ordered some other toppings. We also ordered a strawberry and chocolate ice cream toast. I was quite impressed with the amount of toppings on our shaved ice. Every part of the shaved ice was covered with some sort of topping. We were also given a small bottle of condensed milk to drizzle on top. The fruits (watermelon, mango, and strawberry) tasted fresh and sweet. Taro and matcha mochi were chewy and flavourful. The coconut jelly were the typical ones one could find at a bubble tea shop. The taro tasted like they were soaked with syrup beforehand, which made them even more sweet. We also ordered barley and the entire top of the shaved ice was covered by it. I never had barley added to a dessert and I must say it was an interesting experience. You couldn't really taste the barley because of its subtle taste. Overall, the shaved ice was satisfying especially on a hot summer night. I was disappointed at the toast because it looked so skimpy. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of it but it was literally a piece of uncut toast, with strawberries slices and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The toast at the Icy Bar on Kingsway was much bigger in portion and were cut into smaller squares and stacked in a creative way. The place was full when we came in tonight since they are well known for their other locations. The decor is plain and casual, and the females staff was okay - nothing special about them since it's unfortunately a regular thing in Richmond for Chinese customer service to be non-existent or semi-tolerable. My only thought is that the tables near the washroom aren't attractive since you can see into the washroom hallway and a gross looking creaky old sink is in plain sight. It would be advisable to put a curtain hanging from the ceiling there to cover that ugly area from the patrons. My complaint is that the music was way too loud since we could barely hear each other talking. It was nightclub music, but we prefer something softer since we associate dessert with comfort and relaxation. The music did not match with the cafe. They also have various honey toast options if you're not that into shaved ice. The parking situation was kinda complicated because all the spots are reserved for different shops and icy bar only had 2 spots which were full. We arrived there before 9 and it was decently full and when we were done at 10 there were quite a few parties waiting and it was only a Tuesday! They also keep making mistakes on the bubble teas I order, and the one they did give me tasted like some of the blandest most boring bbt ive ever had. It's in the top three for bad bbt. The food is ok, nothing special about it. The customer service was terrible. I have went here a few times until they forgot an item and we asked them to kindly to fix it. Not only was she not pleased, she took so long to put the icecream on top. When we got it back, the shaved ice was already half melted. Service was pretty slow here as the waitress had disappeared from the floor for a solid ten minutes before taking our order. But once she had taken the order, it was all made quickly.
