I am delighted to have found this place! I had a marsala dosa and a marsala chai. The dosa was on point - crispy and well spiced. YUM! I will come back to try more of the menu. Part of the reason I love it is that it looks like something out of a movie. You have to go down this narrow stairwell inside this older hotel - the Ramada - on the edge of Chinatown. We tried some take out from this place based on all the positive reviews but the one thing that stands out and turned me off from returning was the flies. Not one, but two dead flies in the bag with our take out order. Gross. Leads me to believe the conditions of this restaurant's kitchen are not clean. Food was ok, but still not great. I checked out their Fremont location last week with a friend, needless to say, my family was jealous so we went here for dinner. They definitely seem to be more set up for take out then dining in, however the staff was super helpful. They are located in the basement of the Ramada hotel in downtown Oakland. The hotel staff was kind enough to direct us, otherwise we would have likely missed the signs, which were clear, we are just oblivious. If you are a Scandinavian from the mid-west like I am, most things even those not marked as spicy are likely going to max out your spice tolerance. The child ordered the kids cheese dosa, which was similar to a delicious tangy grilled cheese. My husband ordered the Malai Paneer Dosa, and I ordered the Vadas and Samosas. Everything except the cheese dosa and a fair amount of spice, and was very delicious. The staff were super friendly and answered questions. For dessert, we ended up ordering two different flavors of Matka Kulfi, a first for us, and absolutely loved it! read more

Overall it's better than not good. Past 2 times I've been there, my stomach didn't feel well within the hour I ate from there. Not sure why. We have been multiple times to this place but did not get the chance to write about this find of ours! In this desert of Indian food eateries ( the Brentwood-Antioch-Oakley area), this is hands down the best restaurant serving South Indian fare. They are still in stages of settling down and are still running in soft opening mode. Food tastes truly authentically Indian with accurate flavors captured in the dishes, though some turn out of be too spicy for the spice wimp (me) Everything is served piping hot and a visitor soon gravitates towards a favorite. Mine is the Ghee Roast Dosa - theuly authentic in taste and flavor while my better half swoons over a Mumbai Jini Dosa. And wash it all down with Thums-up Masala soda! Buuuurrpp! We have been here several times- First time with friends & family we all loved it very much since it was our time here we went crazy & also given the fact we were super hungry practically over ordered but nothing got wasted.... After a long time we enjoyed Idli's & speciality Dosas. Second time we did a To Go - Karaikudi Goat Kheema - famous Karaikudi style Dosa with minced goat, onions, tomatoes , green chilies & coriander. Idli plate - 3 Idli with 3 chutneys & sambhar They packed in a travel friendly boxes so everything stayed very well. Food was delicious but I prefer to have in a restaurant since Dosa doesn't stay crispy after awhile. Third visit- we dined in... Idli plate, Ghee Roast Dosa - added Masala ( dry potato veggie on the side) - this was yummy wish I had also taken it... Mumbai Jhinni Dosa with paneer - Dosa was very nice little spicy for me but missed not having it with cheese as I did in my 1st visit... next time I will prefer it with cheese... We love their Thums Up ( in India this was our favorite before Coke) Masala Soda. I'd never had idly or dosas before and this was a great intro!! Food- We ordered plain idly, ghee roast dosa, masala dosa and chicken dosa. Everything was delicious but I couldn't handle some of the spiciness of ONE of the chutneys and the chicken dosa - that's just my faulty taste buds. Service- they call your name & you pick up everything. The workers seemed friendly enough. You can pick up your own leftover box to go but you need to ask for the special cups for any leftover chutney and sambar. Ambiance- extremely casual. There are sinks to wash hands. I like to try new local restaurants and foods I've never tried in new cities. I'm in Antioch for work and Yelp gave ID Cafe 5 stars, so, of COURSE I tried it. I'd never eaten Dosa before and asked for a recommendation based on my allergies and spice preferences. Super helpful staff guided my choice and I was definitely not disappointed. The crepe like texture is perfectly crunchy on the exterior and the filling is savory and spiced superbly. Three accompanying chutneys are also great! 10/10 would eat again! read more

Went here with my Fiancé and her family and her family. Don't be fooled by the sign, it still needs to be updated! This little Dosa spot is one of the best in the bay area. The Dosas are FULL with paneer, pav bhaji, or any filling you order and are very tasty, great crunch as well. Sambar was on point, and the chutneys were quite good. The dosa itself is very filling and I appreciate all the vegetarian and vegan options that are offered alongside the meat options. The mango Lassi was also incredibly delicious! Finally a local dosa spot! I don't have to drive to Berkeley or go to the South Bay/Peninsula area. It was difficult to find though. I think the logo outside was some kind of crawfish spot (most likely the previous restaurant before ID Cafe). The staff was friendly and offered to answer any questions I may had. The dosas were so nice and crispy. I appreciate that it came with three types of chutneys and sambal. Low key ambiance. I do appreciate that there's a designated area to wash your hands. Second review from this place, this time we tried a few more options, and just as last time, super consistent, hot fresh underrated dosas! I was craving the traditional masala dosa, it was exactly what I was craving but maybe a little bit more salt, the chutneys are all good in your own way, but I prefer the sambar, might ask for more next time, the other one we had was the pav Bhaji dosa and I think this and the ground chicken one are the best ones, but you can't go wrong! We always end up eating a dosa there and taking one back home, reheating instructions and packing are perfect! Lunch here was both adventurous and satisfying. ID Cafe is located next to the H &R block. They are working on fixing the sign. The Ambiance is cozy and simple but they are new and still getting settled. Staff is attentive and genuine. I came by myself and wild me back with my girlfriend. Great taste, fast service, reasonable prices . I would go there again if in the area. Hard to find, even with GPS. Quite confusing but it is in the middle of the small mall. I guess the sign was small and I finally had to pull out my "Google Maps" app and walk instead of driving around in circles. But the food was worth the effort.
