The doctor was helpful and informative, but this place really does not operate like any optometrist I've ever been to. It's an interesting concept, but needs vast improvements to be considered a reliable eye doctor. I'm not one to leave a poor review, but no one noticed when I arrived, they continued consulting their interior design customers. After being sold daily-use contacts (first time in 12 years of wearing contacts that a doctor insisted I wear them) for a much higher price than online - I requested my prescription. After picking up my contacts a week later, I then requested my prescription again. After another week of waiting I request my prescription again. They are only open 4 days a week and do not respond to email or phone. Look, I'm only sharing so they either improve or other customers don't run into the same issues. I wish them all the best, but this is one of those places that will force you to buy their products, withhold your prescription (so you buy through them), and seems far more invested in selling their high-end decor to their high-end clientele. Please note, optometrists are legally obliged to provide patients with their prescription within 48 hours. read more

I visited I.D. because my VSP vision insurance site recommended them, and I'm not totally sure what the concept of this place is since I what I expected was more Lenscrafters and less Bobby Trendy. It's a small store that apparently sells very uber-fabulous knickknacks and furniture pieces. Expensive stuff that my budget wouldn't allow even if my tastes included silver cassette tape mirrors and gold leaf piggy banks; I'm more a Room and Board kind of guy anyway. Along the wall is a large collection of prescription lens frames. Contemporary and mui expensivo, though my insurance would cover two-thirds the cost of the frame and prescription if I needed it. I love coming to this store. Anthony and Steve are friendly and personable. They have tons of opticals and sunglass from really unique designers. They are super helpful with choosing a pair that fits your face. The store is well dressed and they have a good amount of turn around, so it's constantly changing. These guys really know their stuff, dont be surprised if you end up spending an hour in here just chatting. Parking is metered in front and I've never had trouble finding any, a big plus. Today is a gray and depressing day, and I just walked out of I.D. feeling so unexpectedly cheered that a quick note is in order. I stopped into the store to look for a Gus Modern glider that I'd like to buy for my soon-to-come son's nursery. I.D. doesn't have the model on their floor, but still they took the time to A. dig out fabric samples, B. talk to me about the story behind the chair and everything they've heard from customers (even as their phone rang in the background), and C. call another Chicago boutique to ask if they had it on their floor--thus potentially giving away the sale while helping me track down the item. I haven't had such a pleasant exchange in any retail establishment in who knows how long. These guys are lovely, and if I do decide to order the glider it will be from here. read more

Looking for sunglasses, I first visited I.D. maybe 8 years ago at their Clark location. JD, one of the original owners, was incredibly helpful. In so many glasses stores, it's obvious that the salesperson has no point of view other than to get the sale. But JD actually took time to look at my over-sized head and select a handful of glasses that he thought might look best. Then he gave me an honest opinion about why some of those worked better than others. And he was right. I left the store in a great pair of glasses "for me." The "for me" part is the critical part. It's no good when you leave the store with a pair of glasses that would look great on someone else. Needing new prescription frames, yesterday I went back to the store looking for maybe my 4th or 5th pair of glasses from ID. Steven greeted me as if I'd been there yesterday, even though it had probably been years. Steven has helped me with numerous frames in the past. He and Tony both have an uncanny knack for selecting frames that work and being honest about ones that don't. And the selection is just amazing. I am now waiting to go back with my wife and choose from between 3 great frames, but I literally could've left the store with 7 or more. The interior design selection is awesome, too. I had an eye exam appointment here for 130 PM on a weekday. While I was waiting, the doctor strood out of the office right past me and made no mention when he would return. I waited for over 20 minutes and no one in the office knew where he went or when he would be back. Keep in mind, I had received 3 emails and one phone call that I was to be there at 130. I have been a loyal client of ID Chicago for eight years. Its a boutique furniture and eyeglass shop. I love supporting local and small businesses, however, as of 2019 there has been a steady decline in customer service that is most notable in promptness and attention to detail. On February 17th I ordered my glasses which I kept and provided a three months supply of contact lenses which were never opened. I was told the contacts would be sold back to the company and a credit posted to my account which I could use it toward ordering new contacts. Two months later this has yet to be done although I've called numerous times with each time being assured that I'm a valued client and my request will be solved. At this point I am compelled to buy contacts elsewhere. read more

Recently, I attended a neighborhood art reception at I.D. I didn't know that it was both an eye wear and home decor boutique wrapped up in one. Interesting concept, to say the least. Employees are super friendly and welcoming, they have their own optometrist on site as well as a variety of super stylish frames. I didn't see any that really fit my more conservative design aesthetic, but if you're a fashionista, you'll probably delight in the unisex collection. Pricewise, you'll drop a pretty penny for some decent specs, so I can't give them the full five stars. read more

Love the assortment of high-end glasses from the classic Tom Ford, to the flexible create-your-own glasses with Tom Davies, to the fun colors of Lafont. While I would rather not need glasses, if I have to wear them, I might as well get the best and the most gorgeous. Since finding this place, I have only purchased my glasses from here. While I have not purchased furniture from here because I am well set in that regard, I do like their pieces, especially their eclectic options in end tables. I have purchased a few small home decor pieces, and have always been very pleased with the purchases (style and quality). Anthony and Steven are extremely helpful, very knowledgeable, and very friendly, both before and after the purchases. They are also very honest in their assessments of whether glasses look good on me or not. I like this better than the classic sale's pitch that everything looks great on me. At first I wasn't sure...i.d. is a small showroom and I thought "where is all the furniture?" But then I met Steven and he helped us select about 10 pieces of new furniture for our home and we are thrilled with each and every piece. He has a great eye for design, and is kind, helpful and patient. They carry all sorts of great lines, from Blu Dot to Knoll. We even bought a fabulous rug from them. What an awesome assortment of eyeglasses. Being 'blessed' with less than 20/20 eyesight means that I can choose different looks, and have different frame personalities. I usually go to a larger chain eyeglasses because I want glasses right there on the spot. I was out in Chicago with my husband and left to explore the city on my own. I had EyeMed Insurance that was burning a hole in my pocket and looking for some of the most unique eyeglasses that I could find. I really hate seeing my glasses on some other stranger. After seeing my ultra cool Oakley frames on someone else, decided it was time to upgrade out of the chain places and try a one location business. Wow, so glad that I did that! Anthony was an AMAZING sales person, and knew his product very well. Showing off glasses made by I.D. design, where every detail of the frames can be customized just for you liking. And showing other more traditional looking black thick frames. I instantly fell in love with this pair of glasses made by Drift, everything about it screamed "Daniel buy me!" They were hand made right here in the USA (Big bonus for me since I try to shop local, and support american goods, I know super San Franciscan of me) But I digress. The temples are made from reclaimed woods and sustainably harvested. Another huge bonus! Anthony continued showing me other frames, but nothing else compared to the Drift frames. Plus they were a limited run of less than 100. I knew that these needed to be mine. Took some measurements, talked about lens options and lens coating and found out about the new Transition polarized lenses which darken in the sun and polarize to block out the glare. I loved my older transition lenses and thought that it might be time to change it up a bit and get some better protection on my eyes. All I can say is that I am excited to get my new glasses mailed home to me in San Francisco and have a one of a kind style from Anthony! read more

This review is long overdue. I found out about this place on a whim. I had a Groupon that I intended to use at another eyeglass shop that I had previously bought frames from about 7 years ago. Back then they had an amazing selection, but much to my disappointment I found them to be severely lacking now. As I left the store I pondered about all the other eyeglass shops that I knew about, and/or had seen. However, since I knew I wanted another pair of Pro Design frames, I decided not to waste my entire Saturday running all over the place and not finding what I wanted. Soooo... out comes the smart phone (thank God for smart phones) and a quick google search brings up I.D. First off, whoever their eyeglass buyer is has IMPECCABLE taste. Many stores tend to fill up their stock with Prada, Gucci, Ray Ban (yawn), etc frames. Not here! Not only did they have my beloved Pro Design brand, but they also had frames by designer's that I didn't even know had an eyeglass line. The staff is very, very, very professional, and soooo helpful. I was given frame after frame to try on, and even though I was apprehensive regarding plastic frames; I quickly got over that with their help! They are really interest in making sure that you not only get something what you want, but also that would look great on you. There are no hard sells, pressuring, or any of that garbage here. I ended up buying two pair (which I absolutely adore), and have received nonstop complements on my frames ever since. I highly recommend this shop, and will definitely be returning for all my future eyeglass needs. read more

We purchased three pieces of furniture from iD, chairs and a media table, totaling just under $4,000. At purchase we were told the chairs would take 3-4 weeks for delivery. Two months later they finally arrived and we were thanked for our patience while enduring the delay. The media table was estimated at two months for delivery. We're now four months out and still waiting. Each time I reach out for an update I'm thanked for my continued patience, told the piece is nearly finished and....then weeks pass. It's a shame because I do like the furniture and had a pleasant in-store experience while shopping. However, when I must proactively hound a vendor for updates on goods for which I've fully paid (a not insignificant sum), but not yet received, month(s) beyond estimated delivery, I feel compelled to caution others. read more

Being in the retail business I am very particular about service and where I shop. Have been going to ID for years and recommend to my friends (a big deal). I use their optometrist service, buy contacts, prescription glasses and sunglasses there. I have even purchased furniture and accessories. Their concept is incomparable and unique. The guys have an excellent taste level and have curated a great selection of fashionable frames from vendors you don't see everywhere else.
