Went to ida's for a no chip manicure on Nov 30th. It's been a little over a week and 5 nails have already chipped to the point I just cut those nails back to try and salvage the manicure. I've had no chip manicured last 3-4 weeks from other salons. I also stayed after my nails to have my hair done for an event that same night. I paid $50 for a wash and some curls, done in a way I've never had curls done before? It looked good for about 30 minutes in the car ride to my event and all the curls fell out. Total waste of $50. Staff was pleasant and accommodating - why I'm giving them 2 stars not 1, but I wouldn't go back for hair or nail services. read more

This place is amazing! First of all, even though their web hours state it works from 10-4 pm, I called around 11 am and no one answered but imagine my surprise when Michael (I believe he's owner of Ida's salon) called me back right away! I don't think that a salon ever saw a missed call of mine and called me back right away! I was already impressed. Michael answered but I was unavailable so I told him I would call back. I called back around 7:30- I thought they were closed and thought I could leave a message but Michael answered- I was like whoa!! They really go above and around in making sure that they are available at all times for their clients- that's amazing. I sure felt like my appointment mattered. I love Tatiana!! I've been a blonde for forever but my fragile blonde hair needed a break so I decided to get ombré. I already have blonde hair so when I scheduled my appointment with Michael, I mentioned that I needed to just have my roots colored brown. I'm naturally a brunette but a. I didn't have the patience to wait for my hair to grow out enough to have ombré and b. My blonde highlights had slightly grown out and I had dyed them myself causing my hair to have a slightly darker ash blonde. So I really needed Tatiana to work her magic in making sure the brown hair transitioned nicely into blonde hair. I came to the salon on a Saturday around 10. Tatiana took me in and she gave me some ideas on what would look best and then she proceeded to work! One thing that I love about Ida's salon is that it is such a calming environment. Most hair salons you go to are so busy and everyone is rushing and running around like crazy. Not at Ida's. The staff really provides personalized care- I felt like I was the only customer there and that no one else mattered at that moment even though the salon was packed. Please find me a salon that can do that on a Saturday- I'll wait. After about 20-25 mins, a different lady escorted me to the hair washing station. Maybe I've been going to the wrong salons for years but I was really impressed that Tatiana didn't wash my hair. That relieves a lot of the pressure off of the hairstylist because then they don't have to run around between the hair styling/cutting/dying to go wash their clients hair. As important as the hairstyle/cut/dye is, if the hairstylist is in distress, you'll be stressin' over your service as well. Idas salon is so clean- they really maintain it well! After washing my hair, Tatiana took over and slowly combed my hair. I have fine, brittle and long blonde hair but I hate when someone combs it. Tatiana took her sweet time and made sure that I wasn't in pain. Afterwards she blow dried my hair to perfection. I was so satisfied with the service and I was done in about 1 hour 20 mins. It honestly flew by- I was shocked when I looked at the clock! I highly recommend this salon- it's beautiful and worth the ride to the 'burbs, especially because they offer parking!! Bonus points- there's a Starbucks so you can get your coffee on before you start your hair or nail experience. I'd say, "winning"! read more

After readying some of these negative reviews I was hesitant to try but decided to anyway! I called (with a Groupon) and the gentleman was very nice and accompanied me the next day at lunch time. He said he had no restrictions with Groupons (I was worried about times from other reviews). I had a no chip manicure, that Ana did. She was fabulous! I got my nails done there yesterday. I had the groupon. They charger extra $5 to remove polish. I guess every place upcharges nowadays. It's not a big deal just feels weird The selection of colors is tiny. I wanted something neutral and I basically had two choices. They don't even have that thingie with options on a ring. Just a few rows of bottles. The technician was nice and chatty but the results were mediocre to bad. Zero attention to cuticles. Also the area where they do nails is very poorly lit and I didn't even see how bad it was until I got outside. See picture attached with multiple bumps, hairs and missed sides of the nails. Also some of the nails are longer on one hand and shorter on the other. I hope this will last till Monday. As it will need to be redone. Won't be back. My friend, who also commented below, and I enjoy having breakfast together on a Saturday and then trying new nail salons. Yesterday, we ended up in Northbrook to try Ida's Salon, which we had never been to before, and we were excited to try a new place. Upon arrival, we were greeted (by name!) by a really nice guy who welcomed us, scanned our Groupons, and then lead us to the waiting room which was stocked with coffee, water, and cookies. Well, after such a warm welcome, I couldn't wait to see how nice my nails would look once the manucure was done. Little did I know that I would be very disappointed... Finally the manicurist comes, takes us into a small room, and tells us to pick our colours. For me, this was the first disappointing part of the experience. I've gotten many no-chip manicures all over the suburbs and the city, and never have I seen such a small selection of colours. That said, I didn't want to judge too quickly, so I found one I really liked, and sat down at the station. Things were going pretty well, the lady doing our nails was very nice. She asked us about ourselves and added comments in here and there to the conversation I was having with my friend. Once my nails were done, I took a look to make sure they looked good. I noticed that the polish on my left thumb was a bit bumpy, and not smooth as it should be after getting your nails done. The manicurist redid the nail for me without making any fuss (which I give her props for), and it seemed fine to me. Thenm it was my friend's turn to get hers done, and after that we left. We ended up back at my friend's apartment, and, as we always do after getting our nails done, we were sitting around analyzing how the manicure had gone and what we thought of our nails; that was when I noticed that my thumb nail was still bumpy! I was really annoyed about it. My friend also noticed that the job was sloppy, as there was excess polish around her nails, and our manicurist didn't do a good job with our cuticles. I looked down at my nails and had to agree. Later on, I was showing the manicure to another friend, and I noticed that one of the nails was already chipped! I couldn't believe it, because we got "no-chip" manicures. I'm usually someone whose no-chips last forever, and I already had one nail that was chipped only a few hours after the manicure was done. I need to preface my review with the fact that I tend to spend exorbitant amounts of money on hair color at high-end salons. As a first time customer, this was certainly a shift from my regular salon, but I was quite pleased with the outcome. I purchased a Groupon for highlights and Tatiana was very amiable and thorough in her work. At first I was a bit concerned because the top portion did not seem to match the bottom; it ended up blending just fine. She took her time and we were there for quite a while, so I know she put in all her best effort. She and Michael were also very kind to my 7-year old, whom I brought along. To be truthful, I was not a fan of the blowout as she seemed rather unfamiliar doing it. She did try to push products on me quite a bit, which I really do not like. Otherwise, it was a great first experience. I did find the furniture and overall aesethic of the salon to be a bit outdated and cold. The low point of the entire experience was that it was difficult for me to land an appointment for 4-5 days; nobody was picking up the phone and I was finally booked after reaching out via email. Michael is wonderful and welcoming and made the customer service aspect of the experience extremely worth it. They are fair in their pricing for what you get, so if you're looking for a cozy, more personable salon, I would go with Ida's. read more

AMAZING!!!! i love mySo I came into Idas salon and saw Michael who a few hours later transformed my hair into pics I've only seen and awed at in magazines. I've always stayed pretty true to my brunette color, deviating to blonde/caramel highlights but this time wanted something different and unique. That is exactly what Michael did, but better than I even expected. As you can see from the pics- he created a very 'brunette' complexion friendly blonde color with an array of different blonde highlights - and underneath my hair is an incredible rich shade of red. I couldn't believe the pics he took of the back were of my hair! Additionally, I barely even wanted to use my phone bc talking to him is so great ( of course he would never be offended if u we're on your iPad or phone the whole time though). He went above and beyond and if you are comparing prices along salons - U will not find more quality for the reasonable Amount charged by such excellent work. Overall it was a great experience and I am sooo happy with my hair!!! Update: later that day and esp the next day my hair started changing. It turned very Brady almost orange and I started noticing it felt more and more like straw at the front. I thought that was from the hairspray but it wasn't ( I learned this bc I went to have my hair redone today at another salon bc the front of my hair was so orange blonde and blended into my skin). I actually started to feel really ugly and remembered that I originally never asked to go 'blonde' in the first place. I had asked for blonde highlights and to 'lighten up'. Michael bleached my hair and made me a full blonde without consulting me. I overlooked that mostly bc the back of my hair looked so cool and he styled the front to hide mistakes and damaged hair. Needless to say - I got it fixed today and will not be returning to Ida's salon. My hair is now balanced in color, no longer orangish in front and I will need multiple protein treatments as a result though. I did love Tatiana's work. I do not understand why Michael felt he could take such great liberty in doing this without asking me and not doing it well. The owner was great and very nice! ... Now I hate to write bad reviews but it needed to said .. The stylist I was assigned to was not only cold ..fake smile and fake attitude, but very condescending!! She not only made me feel like I didn't know my own hair but she also cut my freakin hair too short after I told her that I was not comfortable with the length she suggested and I wanted a trim!! Needless to say I think her name was Janet or something like that, but she definitely needs a new profession!! For a person that does hair she sure needs to update her look as well ... horrible customer service!! I'm honestly surprised that this place is still in business. Instead of being a good business manager, and doing whatever it takes to satisfy the customer and fix their problem, it seems that Michael would rather call customers mentally unstable and in need of help. A childish act, what kind of manager is that? Came in for a simple haircut and couldn't be more unhappy with the result. Asked for about an inch off and ended up with almost a buzz cut, given my hair was already about 5 inches long when I came in. I was extremely fortunate to have Ida, herself, cut my hair. She is an artist and professional, for sure. She is such a sweet and soft spoken lady! Her skills rival no other hair stylist I've ever had. She is incredibly meticulous, listens well, and incorporates her own expertise into how she cuts & styles. She also took her time to style every piece of hair and straight ironed it too. Ida toyed with the thickness of my bangs for a few minutes in the beginning to make sure it suited my face shape. And I walked out the happiest I've ever been with a haircut. I left with a shaggy, long layered V-cut with bangs. It also helped that the receptionist was so friendly. You need someone like that to bid you farewell at the end. Parking is extremely easy since Ida's is located in a strip mall. It is also a few blocks walking distance from the Northbrook Metra station. However, minus one star for the price - it's $75 for a haircut/blowdry/style! read more

*Amazing* - That's how I describe my hair after coming to Ida's. Lisa did a FANTASTIC job on my hair. I LOVE it. I brought in a couple pictures of what I thought would look nice and Lisa said, "Those are nice, but I think we can do better!" She totally did, too! My hair is super thick and was looking a little bozo-esque as the ends were flipping out. But, Lisa cut my hair in this way that made the ends not flip out anymore and added all these razored, blended layers. The best part is that she asked how I usually style my hair, flat iron or blow dry. So, when I told her that I usually flat ironed it, that's how she styled it! It's a change for me because usually the stylists will just blow dry my hair because they don't wanna stand there and flat iron ALL my hair. I love this place. I love Idas, and I'm lucky that's is right next to my work. As a guy, I will usually go to Great Clips because all I need is a trim and just get the 'same old' each time.. Hard to screw up... you'd think. Well, I've got Great Clips figured out over the years and here it is: 25% of time: Great haircut , congratulations, you've hit the rollette wheel of part timers and got a hair stylist that actually pays more than 50% of their attention to your haircut and get's it done. 50% of the time: Average haircut... the haircut quicky - 15 mins without screwing something up. Lasts for about a month... 25%: God awful haircut, painful to look at myself, and probably inflicting damage on children and the fashion conscious. So, that was the chances I took until I walked into Idas, which was a salon... felt a little weird I'll admit to get a cut at a salon, insead of a barbers shop, but I took my chances. Staff is great, and I've been seeing Ersilia for almost 2 years now.. What I noticed: 100% Great haircut! In fact, I never really know what a great haircut was until I noticed that people were actually complementing me on my hair, which I pay little attention to, and the haircut seemed to last forever. I only have to go about once per 2 months, and always enjoy the shampoo, the head scrub and the lack of chemical stank which is usually in hair salons. For guys especially, if you fear the salon experience, give it a try, and the extra money that you spend will come back to you in good karma for not torturing people with your 15 min head buzz. read more

I've been here a few times for a no-chip manicure, but there's a few issues. First of all, everytime I come, I wait at least 20 minutes after my appointment was scheduled because there is only one lady who does the manicures/waxes and she seems to be back-to-back booked. The upside is they have snacks/coffee/tea in the waiting room, but still, I'd rather just not wait. The manicures end up perfect and they have a good selection of no-chip colors, but the service is just eh. There's not really a substantial hand massage or any of those fixings with this manicure. I like to feel pampered when I am getting a mani, so when someone just paints my nails, it's okaaay but my friend can do that for me instead... I think I'll try a new place next time, although the owner seems VERY nice and he offers a variety of deals when you are checking out. read more

Besides the old place never had any times open after 5. I am a working girl and have a business on top of this, so finding time to make a 40 min hike to Arlington Heights became a bit much The attraction of Ida were 1) favorable reviews on Yelp 2) flexible schedule 3) 50% off coupon. now I have reason #4 - the every excellent host Michael who is super- accommodating and very friendly. I usually see Lisa who cuts my thick black hair just the way I like it (Pixie!) she always does a great job and I also enjoy the shampooing prior to the haircut. Review for Keratin treatment: I was visiting town and hoping to squeeze in a Keratin appointment. I saw a Groupon deal for Ida Salon, and called asking if I could get the Groupon price without purchasing the deal (less hassle), which they kindly agreed to. Impressively, I was able to get an appointment for the coming Saturday. Overall, the treatment was great. Tatiana took her time with the Keratin process (3 hrs) and was wonderful to talk to. The hair washing by Olga was a treat, she gives you a nice scalp/neck massage. The salon also offers free Wifi to entertain yourself with! I do wish they'd explained to me ahead of time the difference between a Brazilian Blowout and Keratin. I usually just get Keratin out of habit, not realizing that a Brazilian blowout is better and longer-lasting. read more

I have mixed feelings about Ida's. I had a pleasant experience and my hairstylist was careful; she paid close attention to the hairs on the back of my neck and around my ears. She did a good job shaping my coiffure and I have been receiving compliments all day. But I don't like my haircut. I've been out on the hunt for a new salon ever since I moved back from school in Champaign. I'm glad I found this place on yelp because their location frankly just stinks. It's all tucked away in this little strip mall. I honestly decided to give this place a try because of the 50% off offer; I think they offer this special price to new customers. What I was searching for was a mid-ranged priced salon. That's all I want! I didn't want to dish out $40 or $50 bucks for a haircut, but also there was certainly no chance in hell I was going to a Hair Cuttery/Great Clips tier hair cut place (too many bad haircuts and experiences at these places from yester-years that truly traumatized me). What I hate about trying new salons though is that I don't want to dish out money at a new place and then risk being dissatisfied with my cut. That's why I really like the 50% off they offer to new customers and it feels less of a risk. According to Ida Salon's website (http://idashairsalon.com/hair_coloring.html) Men's cuts go for $30 - which for me is a reasonable price to charge as long as they cut your hair the way you want it and treat you well and both of which Ida's delivered on. As much as I don't want to admit it, I can be a little fussy when it comes to cutting my hair, but Ersilia cut my hair just the way I wanted it. In terms of service and friendliness the people there from the front end to the shampooist we're all super welcoming. As mentioned before by another reviewer, this place does not have the vibe of a super cool hipper than thou salon that populate a lot of places in Chicago. And yes, the clientele skews a bit older from what I can tell on my first visit there, but who really cares if they you end up happy with your cut? And the stylists seem to know what they're doing. My only complaint if any would be that the decor that seemed a bit cluttered and cramped? I think that was due to the fact that the space they rented out is pretty small so I wont fault them totally for that. Also, there were clothes on display that gave me the impression that they were for sale or like I was walking into someone's closet? All in all though I'm very happy with my experience and I'll definitely be back. I think my long quest to find a new hair cutting place is over. Btw, like many salons (I think?) if you pay with a card you can't put the tip on the card so bring cash if are using debit/credit. I just had the BEST experience in YEARS at Ida's Salon. For me, it's hard to find a fantastic colorist because I like my blonde lifted ALL the way with no brassiness. Tatiana listened to what I wanted and made it happen. She matched my hair perfectly to my extensions and was simply wonderful! She even offered to get me lunch, since my appointment was at noon and I came straight from work. Not to mention Mike, the gentleman at the front desk, frequently checked in with me throughout my visit and politely showed me new products that are great for blondes, without being pushy to buy them. As soon as I walked in the place is beautiful a little hard to find but you will find it. I went in for my appt I scheduled it at 11AM. I immediately mentioned to the nail tech I have to leave at 12 and she said well I will try my best because I arrived late with a professional attitude if you get the picture! I was 5 min so that's my fault I take full responsibility. She has these gloves that will remove the no-chip polish it took 10 minutes great she is on time. The issue I had is that she did not ask if I need a cuticles trim and assume that my cuticles are fine. I say nothing because I want to trust her judgement. Than she starts to polish it takes her 3 min to polish each nail after your hand is placed in a UV light. While we had a quick conversation She only been there 3 months and her family owns the business so that explains why she took an hour and 20min. Finally did not get my hand massage left and arrive to work late! What I did like about her was that she is confident but lacking on how to apply OPI no-chip polish. Anyhow you get for what you pay when you have a Groupon, not trying to make the tech look bad but if you work in a nice spa you need to practice on your down time. Finally at the end the salon manager asked how was my services I told asked him how long is a no chip he said 1 hour and 15 min ... the tech is very theral, in the back of my mind there is nothing to be theral about his is a dry no-chip manicure and I'm like if I would of known I would of booked my appt earlier anyhow it took the tech 10 min to soak me off and and the rest of the time was all nails. read more

Please read this carefully. If you have a Groupon purchased for Ida's salon, then you will never have a chance to make an appointment, and received service you already paid for. When you call salon to make an appointment, first they ask if you have a Groupon. Once you answered "yes", then you will never get a chance to use this coupon. They right away tell you that the only they accept groupon appointments Mon-Wed only and from 9am to 12 pm only, which make impossible to ever get there for working people. I tried to make appointment for Saturday or Evening hours for month or more in advance- no succeed. They were so unfriendly and no negotiation were accepted. When I asked why they did not advertise these time restrictions on Groupon along with their discount- they just hang up. I reported the issue to Groupon and, of course, got a credit. But many people will just give up and loose their money- that exactly what Ida's Salon wants to happen. They get money, but no service provided in exchange. 3 of my friends dealt with the same issue after getting Groupon for this salon. NEVER BUY GROUPON FOR THEIR SERVICE. They will do everything possible to do not provide service which is already paid. Be careful! read more

I purchased a Groupon for a no-chip mani and really wanted to like this salon and service, however... - the nail tech is sloppy - she didn't clean my cuticles - there was nail polish on my skin, yet sides of my nails weren't painted -- she tried to fix it, but somehow didn't have the skill to do that... - there are no color samples of the no-chip nail polishes, so you really have to rely on tech's imagination/understanding I won't be back... read more
