If you want multiple inches cut off your hair with out your knowledge or consent, this is the place for you. I will say that I liked my first cut with Lisa, and had one trim that I liked as well. I went in a few months later for another trim (ie 1/4 inch), and she *completely* hacked my hair. Without saying a single word about her plan, she chopped off over 4 inches in places and gave me a totally different haircut. I went in with a nice shoulder length bob, and ended up looking like Florence Henderson. I was livid. When I told her I hated it, she said she was surprised because it looked "beautiful". First of all, it looks horrendous, and secondly, it was NOTHING like what I came in with and wanted to leave with. She said the cut was what I "needed", and just kept repeating, "But it's beautiful!" The owner, Ida, just kept repeating that she was confused and said she couldn't understand why I was upset. I'm upset because 8 months from now I'll still be growing out this horrible haircut, because it's too short for extensions, and because I've never felt more unattractive in my entire life. Irina has been doing my nails for over a year now. The salon always has good deals. And their price on no chips is awesome. Irina is fun to talk to and she always remembers things I've told in the past. I always leave with my nails looking really good. The no chip polish that they use is OPI so it is great quality. They have several colors and shades. Irina is very meticulous- touching up at the end and making sure the polish is nice and shiny. The salon manager, Michael, is really nice too. He goes out of his way to make sure you leave happy. This is my go to salon for no chips! read more

I really want to give this place 5 starts, the staff is great and friendly but my review is based off the no chip manicure. I got a groupon for it and wanted to check them out. I really think they need to get a new nail technician...she was nice however she really didn't pay much attention to what she was doing. I had nail polish on my skin and she painted over a piece of cotton which is now stuck on my nail unless I pick at it and ruin my no chip..I also have a couple bumps on couple of my nails This mani isn't what I'm use to, I am use to the nail tech taking a lot more time on cleaning up my nails and cuticles and more attention to detail...I had to tell her to clean up the nail polish on my skin (it didn't help she couldn't see what I was talking about) Again place is great they just need a new nail tech read more

Tried Ida's with a no chip groupon and won't be back. The nail tech was friendly but didn't show much attention to detail. She polished unevenly and when I asked for more oil or lotion at the end of the manicure because my hands were so dry from the acetone she used, she told me to use olive oil at home. Recently got my hair done here. I wanted to get the bayalage look to add some caramel streaks in my hair without it looking too blonde. I had three men's haircuts at Ida's and each experience was terrible. Each time I was left waiting for 45-60 minutes (which contradicted their assurance that the wait "is usually not like this"). One time I was waiting for a half hour and then someone absent-mindedly asked me if my hair was shampooed, and after I said no they said, "well, you have to first get your shampooed!" and then had me wait another 20 minutes on the shampooing chair before they got to me. As for the haircuts, my first was too short, the second was ok, and my third was with Ida herself, and even though my only direction to Ida was to not cut my top too short, she gave me a literal BUZZ CUT! Stay away. I wouldn't go back there if they paid me. I now go to Andrea's, which has been great. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought a groupon as I had a similar experience---poor application (uneven with a HUGE space between polish and sides of my nail), chipped within one day, small, old color selection. When I contacted the salon, they had me come back and redid the manicure which was better the second time, but still not great. They said that "this has never happened before" which is clearly not true when you read all the other reviews. Even at groupon prices, this is not worth it. read more

The staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. My haircut and dye looks great (I would post pictures but I'm pretty lazy at the moment.) I got tons of compliments on my hair immediately upon arriving at home as well. The only thing is that the whole process took 3 hours instead of the 2 hours I'm used to at most places. This wouldn't have been as much of an issue if I didn't have to study for a final. But I also feel like she took her time which is why the haircut turned out so well. I was happy with the price of the actual haircut but disappointed with the price of the dye which made this haircut the most expensive haircut I have ever received. This is why I am only giving the place 4 stars. I would definitely come back here for a cut though! (I may have to look around for a cheaper place in the case of the dye). read more

Just FYI I had to condense my review so much because of the limited space. I used a Groupon for balayage. I already had dark roots and Caramel brown highlights in my hair. I wanted blonde balayage layered on top of my caramel brown highlights. I showed the barber, Tatiana, a picture of the color balayage I wanted in my hair and the way I wanted it. I even told her I don't want to look like a blonde because that won't look good with my brown eyes. She looked shocked because she is a blonde but I wasn't trying to be rude. I was trying to get her to understand me. I hope she was joking. I literally was talking to her for like 5 minutes on how to do my hair: blond Balayage, the strands of highlights should be wide apart showing my caramel brown highlights, I want it to be lighter on the bottom. I felt her touching my scalp with the brush. When does balayage ever start from the root of the hair? I never got balayage done before. I wait until my hair is washed and blow dried. I'm mortified. She did the opposite of what I told her to do. And btw, the barber should know exactly what balayage is, without having someone have to explain it to them! It was too blonde. I didn't want to look like a blonde. I apologized for bothering her but I wanted the sludge, she told me about, added in my hair. I was fine with the color. It just wasn't balayage! (Btw I walked in with dark roots so she tried to make me pay for more services.) I shouldn't be the one apologizing btw. She should of been listening to me and do her job right the first time. Don't try to manipulate me into thinking it looks good just so you can get paid. I didn't go to Ida's Salon to do what she wanted, I wanted to do what I wanted. She was complaining (while smiling) about her hard work being covered up by the sludge. Also, a barber should always tell their customers what they are doing to their hair before they do anything just to reassure them. I brought up the picture of the hair I wanted many times during that visit and showed her pictures taped to the walls. How can you still not do my hair right!? She was brushing the sludge ALL over my hair. So I after that I get my hair washed for a long time by someone else wearing rubber gloves that pulls your hair. It felt like 30 minutes. At this time I have been there for almost 6 hours. I'm tired and starving. So I get my hair blow dried and it's still not what I wanted. It's still NOT balayage. My hair looks like one color, like before, but darker, and slightly darker at the roots since the smudge was sitting their longer. I wanted to keep the blondecolor that was originally in my hair for the balayage look! There are some, hard to see, really dark blonde highlights which is throw up color. The color my hair is right now is so ugly. I couldn't take all the convincing those people were doing and I cried because they clearly don't take their job seriously. The barber (not Tatiana), curled my hair to "prove" to me that it will look like the picture. I still don't see the strands of balayage highlights. What really bothers me is the color my hair was in. The manager told me to come in next week and he will fix my hair. He will make my highlights more bold so they can pop out more. Whether that's making the base color darker or the highlights lighter, I wanted to see balayage and he wanted to fix my hair. He reassured me that he wants me to leave happy and wants me to come in next week. He said he's been doing it for 30 years. Btw he looks like he's in his 30's. The day before my appointment, I got a voice mail on my phone, with Michael, the manager, saying he's canceling my appointment because his coloring staff are not comfortable doing my hair. They don't feel like they can give me the color that I want. He tried to kick me out last week by lying to me! I called Michael back and I said he can't cancel my appointment because I need my hair fixed. I paid for it! He was giving me such an attitude. I asked him if someone else can at least try to do my hair besides Tatiana, but he kept saying, "My hair colorists are not comfortable doing your hair." Well then he should hire new hair colorists that are confident in coloring hair, doing their job correctly, and do people's hair right. After all, he did say HE was going to fix my hair. LIAR! He told me I was arguing with him but how is telling a barber how to do your hair, arguing? He said he will call the police if he sees me there! No wonder Ida's Salon isn't an accredited business in the BBB. This is the opposite of what they did. Don't ever go to a place where the lighting sucks! I was nice enough to wait a dreadful 3 weeks and a few washes later to see if the color changed at all. It still looks like &$!%. Now I have to spend a fortune going through a lot more hair processes to get my hair fixed by someone who knows what they are doing. read more

I had a really great hair experience at Ida's not too long ago. I called the night before to schedule my appointment. Michael was great at returning my calls (even letting me call back after hours) to find a time that worked for me. He was very accomodating which I really appreciated. Lisa cut my hair - she really knows curly/wavy hair. This is one of the best cut/colors I have had. I also enjoyed the great shampoo which was super relaxing. I would definitely go back for a cut and color. The mani/pedi - not so great. The chairs were not comfortable, and the spa set up was definitely lacking. It would be great if they could upgrade this area. Also, just so you know most of the clients at the salon seemed to be on the older side - not a bad thing, just kind of a different vibe. read more

I got a groupon for a no-chip manicure. There are pros and cons to my experience: Pros - The lady who did my nails was very nice - the receptionist guy was very nice - my nails looked really nice - they gave me a 50% off haircut if i come back, which i may do! Cons - even though the manicurist and i were getting on famously, i think she got a bit too comfortable and ended up using some unprofessional language. Bulls**T, F**K and Son of a B**H should not be used in conversation with a client, however comfortable you feel with them, it is still a place of business. - I didn't get much of a pampering, not sure if that just isn't the service there. She did my nails nicely but didn't really give me much of a massage or treatment other than the paint. I am giving 3 stars because the manicurist was nice, the receptionist guy was nice and my nails looked good, but taking off 2 stars for the inappropriate use of language and the lack of pampering. Having said all that, it did look like a nice place and it is likely i will use the 50% haircut voucher sometime as there seem to be great reviews of the haircuts on here. read more

I purchased a Groupon for some services and made an appointment few days in advance for both mani and pedi. The front dest guy from Ida calls me 4 hours before the appointment that he cannot take me because of some lame excuse that the technician isn't there that day. I was going on vacation the next and needed both my feet and hands done. I tell him that he needs to do whatever it takes so I can get these services because I did make an appointment, and he just hungs up on me!!!!!!!!! I have only used their nail services for no-chip mani's. I had a Groupon for 4 of them so I have more than 1 experience to base my review! She does not do a very thorough job of removing the old polish and prepping the nails. I can usually make a no-chip last 3 to 4 weeks, but her application lasted 2 weeks at best. And, I too was put off by her dropping the F bomb frequently...even at my very first visit! She should be told to keep her conversations with her clients clean and to stay away from controversial topics (like politics). We are paying for a service that should be RELAXING! Worst no chip manicure ever! The lady was very nice but she does an awful job. At 21$ (groupon price) it's the cheapest you'll find. But I'll still rather pay $35 elsewhere than going back unfortunately. Sad since it's walking distance from me. They have about 20 colors to choose from. The manicure itself is just horrible. Extremely disappointed and sad... I had my haircut and highlights done by LISA. She BURNED my hair and cut it waaay too short, even though I clearly explained to her what I wanted beforehand. She did not listen. Also, she wanted to charge extra $40 for styling, which was really weird. My hair looked burned and overprocessed, and it cost me $240... A coupon in the mail from Ida's today reminded me that I never let Yelp know what I really thought about the salon. Perhaps the experience was too traumatizing. I went to Ida's about six months ago now, and my hair is just now starting to look good, thanks to the expertise of Michele at Luxe on Belmont in Chicago. Michele had quite the task on her hands when I came to her for the first time. I walked in with a quasi-mullet and a head full of orange hair, all thanks to an evening of "hair therapy" at Ida's. I went there because it was close to my work as well. Unfortunately, my experience was anything but positive. My stylist Lisa, who finished an impressive-looking hair coloring shortly before it was time for me, was apparently tired (I was the last client of the day). Despite my booking for highlights, she thought a root touch-up was appropriate instead, and went to town on my hair, turning it a bright shade of Carrot Top orange. Just my roots, though, so the top of my head was orange, the rest dirty blonde. I told her it looked a little "warm," so she tried again, using a toner to bring the "heat" down a bit. I wasn't able to see the finished product until my accompanying haircut was done as well (the haircut was a mess, too, and I've been growing it out since), and as it was nearly 9 o'clock, I convinced myself the color was fine and left, basically crying on the inside. It wasn't until I got home and saw it under my bathroom lights that I realized I had to get it fixed immediately. Still orange. Still a nightmare. A few days later, I went to Luxe. Why didn't I just get it fixed, probably for free, at Ida's? Because Lisa had already tried to fix it once, and only made it worse. I wasn't going for a third that'd make my hair an even more obnoxious shade of tangerine. If you're willing to risk it, don't book a late appointment. I wouldn't touch this place with a stack full of free haircut coupons. read more

It's true....I drive all the way to Northbrook to visit my stylist. Why? Because she is the best! I have been going out to Ida's to have my hair taken care of by Ersilia for over a year now. She is originally from Italy, and really knows her stuff. The first time I went to Ida's I was a little worried because I heard the clientele is "mature". The salon has been around for years and there are plenty of women who have been going there since Ida first opened her doors. Most of the stylists are also long time employees, so don't expect the typical twenty-somethings straight out of beauty school. In fact, I was referred to Ida's by one of her long time customers. If you don't need to be in the hottest most hip city salon....then this place is worth a try. The pricing is slightly less than the city (which covers the drive). For me it is all worth it for the compliments I receive on my hair. Ursilia is my savior! read more

Went to Ida's for the first time for a no-chip manicure. Owner is extremely friendly and the spa itself is pretty nice, but I am not happy with the quality of the manicure. The technician wasn't able to do a lot of designs that I requested, so I ended up getting a basic French. She cut me while filing my nails, and then the nails started chipping within the week. I only get my nails done on special occasions, so I didn't call or return to complain/fix my nails. Very bummed as nail services aren't the cheapest. read more

I was lucky to get a same-day appointment for a no-chip manicure. I found the salon to be clean and friendly, with a large selection of colors to choose from. My manicurist, Irena, was lovely - she did an excellent job of shaping my nails, cleaning my cuticles, and applying the polish to perfection! The owner came by to greet me, and to check if all was o.k. I subtracted one star just because the nail room was rather small, and can only accommodate one customer at a time - otherwise definitely a 5-star experience!... I'll be back, for sure! read more

I had a no-chip at the salon. They have a new manicurist (3 months) who was very good. The owner, however, is one of the rudest people I have come across. If they were offering free no chip manicures, I would turn it down just to avoid any interaction with the manager/owner. I have read other reviews describing the same disrespectful behavior. my friend and I bought this groupon because we love to get our nails done together. when I called to make an appointment, they informed me that only one manicurist was working so they'd do back to back appointments - which, fine, whatever. we get there, and it literally is one small room with one station - which I found kind of weird. the staff was very kind and nice (the receptionist even greeted us by name as soon as we walked in), but the nail technician, as nice as she was, just wasn't very skilled. there was polish still on my skin when I left, and three of my nails were painted unevenly (part of the nail by the bottom cuticle edge just weren't painted, even after I asked her to try and cover the entire nail). if I'm going to be completely honest, it was like we got our nails done at a friends house or something - it was not the manicure experience we were expecting. I purchased a groupon for a no-chip about a year ago and really liked it. Now, whenever I make an appointment, they honor the groupon price without needing the groupon, so the no-chip comes out to 21 dollars. They only have one technician at a time I think and it's better to have an appointment. I typically request Irina, she's amazing, professional and fast!
