I have used ideal in the past and they did a beautiful job, And I have recommended them countless times,I don't know if it has changed ownership or what but this time when I walked in I got nothing but bad vibes, almost like they didn't want my business, I brought in a cushion to be redone and Sal took my name and number and said it would be ready on sat , it was Tuesday , I called Monday to pick it up and he said it's not done I'll rush it , I said no problem I can pick up next week as I will be traveling tomorrow and can't hang out in Ventura today waiting for it , he said it would be done by the end of the day , then called me back saying he couldn't finish as something came up , I said no problem I'll pick it up next week , I called the following week and he's said it was done , I went to pick it up and it was nothing like the original , I asked if he had the original cover so I could compare them and he said no he had thrown it out but it was exactly the same , he straight up lied to me and it was still bad vibes , I got the cushion home and sure enough it's nothing like the original and the new one had a hole in it ! Wtf ?! I texted him and he called me back and still lied about it , asked me to bring it back and he would make it again no charge , by this time I was over it and him, lying ruined it all for me I will not recommend ideal upholstery again read more

Run run run ! The man lies every time he opens his mouth. How many times he blew me off for 4 months, having to come back to pick material from new books every time as he forgets what book and what agreed material. Do yourself a favor and get rid of the thousands of outdated material books you have ! Also, the job on my wing chair was awful ! I was so warn out dealing with I him took it in the backside and went to another upholsterer to redo it as I didn't want to keep being lied to about the finish date and loosing the materials chosen each time different as he lost the book for the first three choices and I had to keep picking something new because he couldn't find the original pick, which was two weeks job and ended up being 4 1/2 months ! I wish I never went to this place and saved all the frustration and anger for all those months, it was brutal as he also had my deposit. He needs to get some organizational skills and some morals and do good work for the prices you charge ! read more

These guys are the best! Had my dad's sagging car ceiling re-upholstered a while back and they did a great job and turned it around in time for his birthday surprise. So when I decided to re-upholster my parents dining room chairs myself (possible mistake?) last week and couldn't find the right foam for the job in time, I took a chance and stopped in. Wasn't sure they would even sell me any, but Sal was so nice and even offered to cut the foam to size by the next day. When I went to pick them up, he had not only cut them, but chose another thickness that would fit better with the chair (it did) and added a layer of Dacron which I thought I was going to have to buy and cut myself!He even charged me a lot less than I would've had to pay buying a whole roll of the materials myself while saving me a lot of time and headache. Amazing. He and the rest of the crew are are so friendly and helpful. Just know that they only accept cash or check (but there's an ATM at the $.99 store across the street if you forget). read more

I have to add my 2 cents here. As Grandma Sam used to say. "Ya get lots more with honey than urine peoples! " Just Sayin. I have a 46 year old motorhome that is part of the family. I needed the dinette sofas completely rebuilt. After getting shot down by 4 local shops I met Sal at Ideal. He knew it would be a bit more work than a normal job but was willing to tackle it. ( my 11yr old, intuition filled,daughter instantly liked him as well. Kids smell bullshit that us adults can't) BTW- a lil fact about this Sal guy, he teaches kids how to box and defend themselves 4 days a week for free. Says volumes to me. I gave him a date I needed it by and he fully respected and worked in my timeframe. Communication via Email and phone has been superb. I'm not the easiest customer as I tend to ask a ton of questions and expect a lot for my buck. Sal is patient and dealt with my expectations professionally. I feel he appreciates our business and cares about the craftsmanship. The work looks magazine quality to me. I'll use Ideal again and refer you all to as well. read more

We needed our couch and chair in our salon re done and we did LOTS of shopping around. Sal came in with a quote much lower than everyone else. He suggested a more durable fabric, as they get a lot of traffic. Sal also said he would have to use more foam than originally anticipated. We also needed one of our styling chairs repaired. The styling chair was done in a few hours, and the couch and chair were finished in less time than we were told. Not only that, but the total price was even less than what he quoted us. I had a new sectional couch that wouldn't fit into our new homes living room. I went to Sal and explained my predicament, and that part of my sectional was sitting in my garage because it was too big a piece of furniture for the space we wanted it in. Not having a truck, Sal came over to my house in Oxnard and picked up the furniture, had it about 1 week and the delivered it back, customized exactly to measurements for our room. I stopped at Ideal Upholstery after receiving a ridiculous estimate and nonexistent customer service from Mac's Upholstery. I was greeted by a very friendly employee upon entering this establishment. Sal was in the back and promptly came out and gave me the cost (beating Mac's by $120) to reupholster my motorcycle seat and offered two different leather swatches for me to choose from. He said it would take 3 days to finish. I picked up the seat this morning and was extremely satisfied with the quality work and professionalism of his entire staff! My husband and I bought an RV to remodel, and if you have seen many RV's, the decor and upholstery is always hideous! I shopped around some dinette cushions to be recovered (foam was still good) and the prices were really high, with some places saying it would take as long as 4-6 weeks. A few other places were not even willing to do a job that small, but I wanted to see how the dinette cushions would come out before I had the other pieces of furniture done. Sal was very helpful, and even though he was busy at the time, he was able to finish the dinette cushions and accompanying trim pieces in less than 2 weeks. He used a vinyl fabric color that we picked (that looks just like leather), and did a great job on the stitching and seams! His price was very reasonable especially for the time it took. The entire dinette set looks brand new and is extremely comfortable! I will take the other pieces back to him now that I know the quality of his work, and he is very reasonable with prices and time! Sal and crew did a fantastic job on my 100 yr old family walnut armchair. Both the repair of cracked rear leg and new fabric upholstered. They were good about price and time budget. Had trouble getting other shops to even estimate my chair. Visiting family were amazed to see it again and looking much like Grandma and Grandpa had it. I hate writing a bad review, unless it was a really bad experience. I had 2 benches that I needed new foam inside. Sal said it would be easy and we set a time to have them done on Thursday. I brought them both by on Thursday and he said there was no way he could do it that day. Then said that he can't do it for the price that he originally told me. Finally, he said he could do one of them and I said it has to be done by 2:00 and he said no problem. I show up at 2:15 and it's in pieces and he said they don't have the correct foam to complete it! When I talked to him about it he couldn't care less and basically thought the whole thing was funny. How is this guy still in business?? Sal is an extremely arrogant and careless person. I decided to try a different local upholstery business that did a great job and were very professional. Use this company at your own risk. read more

The only good thing I can say about this place is that the guys in the back are polite and at least took the time to talk with me. Hate this place and never coming back. Took my trusty but worn office desk chair in to get re-upholstered. It cost me $350 bucks in the late 1990s and would have been a bunch more now so off to the upholsterer. the folks at Ideal did a great job, charged what I felt was a very reasonable price and my chair was back in my possession in just 48 hours. I will let everyone decide weather this company is worthy of your business! Sal was asked by my husband and myself to re-stuff a couch that we had. I wanted to buy a new couch but we settled on re-stuffing. Sal came with his son and he took our couch with him. A couple of weeks later he brings the couch back. He leaves and I call him back that day and ask why the center cushion has no fill in it? I said it throws off the whole couch and I can't lie down on my own couch. He said to me that we said NOT to stuff the center cushion. I said that's crazy! I asked him to take back the couch and please stuff the center cushion. He said he would take it back and re-stuff it if I paid him more money. I said you should have stuffed the center cushion the first time around! As a business owner, I said, when you had the couch and you saw what a huge difference that NOT stuffing the center cushion would have made, all it would have taken is a phone call to say did you really not want to stuff the center cushion, it is really low and you can not lie down on it. He chose NOT to do any of this. He returned our couch not completed. I took him to court and I won because he did not do his job properly. He claims I lied in court. I showed the judge the receipt and the judge could not figure out why the job was not fully complete as well. The receipt even says.....Paid in full $700 for couch re-stuffing. Where on the receipt does it say NOT to stuff the center cushion!! IT DID NOT SAY THAT!! Please be leery when you leave your furniture with him and get everything in writing!!! read more

This guy is a TERRIBLE businessman! I had him reupholster one single cushion. He told me it would take a week- "No problem". Three weeks later and numerous calls and numerous visits and it finally was done. He is never at his shop. But their sign says they are open until 5:00 but nobody is ever there after 4:30. If you call him he will lie and say that he is going to be there until 6:00 but the shop will be locked and closed at 4:55. I have no idea how he is still in business. Maybe he won the lottery and doesn't want to tell anyone? The state of his store-front should have clued me in but the "location seemed convenient." The man who helped us at the front desk was great. He was focused and friendly; firm but fair: awesome.

The owner is never there, they have no posted hours, SO you call and tell them you will be over and you get there and they are closed. Then you call and get a price for your project and drive over again but the owner isn't there so the write your name on a scrap of paper and tell you to leave your stuff. Then a week goes buy and you call to find out how they are doing to find out they have done nothing and the price is going to be higher, you have to agree to the higher price before they can start. Happened to me twice. First time I paid second time I just went and got my stuff. Then on top of that they prefer to deal in cash, don't take cards, no real paperwork involved. I think this business has all the warning flags of a place to stay out of. read more

The front man Sal has no business working with customers. I have had 2 jobs done the first being 8 cushions for $800....late on his delivery several times and used material with the bolt location holes still in the material...clearly an obvious mistake because the run of small holes were all around the side if the cushions. I voiced my objection and he said the holes would stretch and go away. NOT !!!!! Sal then said he would make amends on future work and give me a big discount. He agreed to do a chair and ottoman for $350. A few months later I brought in the Chair and Ottoman and reminded him of the previous situation and he agreed again the he would make the amend to do the chair at the previously agreed price. He told me and my wife separately that he would have the chair done in 10 days at the previously agreed price.. NOT !!!!! 45 days later and a bill for $785. I pointed our our agreement and treated me like nothing ever happened. He stuck by his guns and then eventually agreed to lessen the bill by $100. Which was now $685....Then he told me to write a check for $727..I did because i was so mad that I didn't add it up in my head properly..Just like another review here I just wanted to be rid of him. Got home and realized he cheated me my $42....so I called him on it and he was down right mean. I went directly to my bank to cancel the check and reissue it for the $685. He could care less about even being nice to me...I Paid $385 more than what we agreed and basically told me to take a hike! Now That's Customer Service? read more
