The first thing to notice is that this shop is kept VERY CLEAN, and it smells clean. No hair on the floor from the last client. No rags sitting on the sink. No equipment laying around waiting to be cleaned. It just looks well kept and maintained. My son is 7 yrs old, but he was received and treated like one of the guys. There is a very cool vibe in here. The first time my son came to this shop, he left happy with his haircut. Upon his 2nd visit, Adrian cut his hair, a little too short, but not enough to make my son go somewhere else. Tonight was his 3rd visit... he is extremely disappointed and upset, he doesn't even want to go to school tomorrow. Adrian butchered his hair. I showed him the inspiration photo, my son's hair had plenty of length, I don't know how it went so terribly wrong. Wanted to try this place out. I walked in around noon to make an appointment. They hooked me up with a 430pm appointment ( I thought.) I was there at 430 sharp, ended up waiting past 5pm, and noticed the barber that "was" gonna cut my hair was inexperienced. I asked the barber in the first chair to accommodate me, he told me, that sometimes you have to wait 30 minutes, even if you have an appointment. I was not impressed at all. So today I got my locs retwisted and I usually go right next door to the barbershop but today, Monday it seems like every barber was OFF. Well not Maurice! I went to Yelp found Blendz and went their since it was close to my house no one was there even though it was supposed to be open. Well they lost a customer bc I went back to Yelp and found Identity Barber Shop open and I called to ask were they open but that was a rhetorical question since someone answered the phone...lol!! I initially began writing this review some four or five weeks ago, after my first visit. I was impressed with one particular barber's customer service and commitment to his craft, Benny. Fast forward to present day. I sought to make an appointment with him again on Monday for a Wednesday. I was prompted to use their mobile application, which when I tried, I was unsuccessful. So, I called the shop directly and was transferred to Benny who confirmed my appointment time for two days later. Long story short, I pull up at 11:30 on Wednesday and he is no where to be found. He asked if I could come back later, as he planned to be in there shop in the afternoon, to which I laugh. I decide to sit and wait for one of the barbers to line me up and cut my hair--a mistake, if I've ever procured one in my life. Don't let Andy (Andres) get anywhere near your hair. He can't even do a simple line up. He hands me the mirror, claiming that he's finished working. My hairline was visibly crooked. "Ah, you're right," he mutts as he picks back up the razor to further assault my hair. Hell, even Stevie Wonder could see that shit. I see a little blood on the side of my head and tell him to no longer use the blade. "Yeah, you had a pimple," as he reaches for nick cream. Go around it, fuck tawd. Man will have you looking goofy. He is an incompetent barber. In fact, he doesn't even deserve the title of a barber. He is an incompetent hair dresser. After this mishap, I know I will no longer return to this establishment. I've been going to Identity for about 6 months now, and have only had my hair cut by Carlos. He has probably been the best barber I've had. I saw some reviews about how some hair cuts have taken too long, but Carlos has always taken about 30-35 mins, which I consider to be about average. Carlos is very thorough, and attentive to detail. He's a chill guy. If you want to talk, he's easy to talk to, or if you just want to relax and be silent, he's cool with that, too. I can't recommend Carlos enough! The shop itself is always clean, and they usually have sports on the tv's. The guys in the shop all seem to get along and usually joke around together. Poor customer service and doesn't keep appointment times the barber that was providing the service for my son got offended when I inquired about time slots and suggested I go elsewhere. Usually pay $35 but barber refuse to give change back and stated due to gas prices the prices have increased (wasn't made aware on website and it was a child's haricut) service was provided 45 mins late with no apologies...I would've came later if barber would've communicated delay just as the barber would've expected me to. The haircut came out good but it was blindsided by such a poor experience. My dollar probably doesn't make a difference I guess but definitely want to share my past experience with others especially being a single mom read more

I came here with a jacked up situation on my head. I let inexperienced hands attempt to give me a fade the night prior and it came out pretty bad. I couldn't walk around Earth lookin all crazy, so FIRST thing in the morning, I hopped on yelp to find the best local barbers and came across this shop and one other. I was nervous because I've never been to a barbershop and was incredibly skeptical on their ability to cut women's hair and still keep them looking feminine. While glancing through the pictures on this yelp page, I seen a woman who got her hair cut here, so that was comforting and ultimately helped me choose this shop. All the cuts I'd seen on this page and their instagram were well executed so I had confidence in everyone's ability to give a nice cut, I just wanted to be sure it would be a cut that flatters me. So I booked an appointment with David through the Identity Barbershop app and the rest is history. He put me at ease the moment I sat in his chair. He listened to my concerns and explained to me what he could do to make sure I got the results I wanted, and added his own expertise to not only fix the situation I came in with, but give me something better. This is the worst barbershop in the city! I was leaving work to try out a new barbershop in my neighborhood only for the barber to do a bad job at tapering my hair. Not to mention he charged me $45 and asks if I want aftershave! No barbershop ever asks if they need aftershave it's an obvious answer. A bit frustrating waiting that long however after going through the process you appreciate the time and effort the barbers put into their craft. The finished result looked okay but not as good as my first trip when I sat with Mister. Next time I'll make an appointment with Mister. I want to point out that I brought a friend of mine to get his head shaved (bald). The barber he sat with, I think it was Matteo, left his head bloody and burning. My friend can shave his head at home without doing that. You go to a barber hoping to get a relaxing experience with superb results. My friend was disappointed he paid $20 to get his head cut up. I love that I can make appointments from my phone. My boys have been here multiple times and always ask for BENNY to do their hair. What makes things even better is that Benny is available for later appointments which makes it easier for us since we don't get home from work til around 6. The other shops we've been to before would close by the time we get home and when we try to make appointments on the weekends they would be fully booked already. At first I thought the price of the cuts were a little high but I realized that's how much they charge at most barbershops now a days and it's well worth it here. Not only is the barbershop really nice and in a great location, Andres Chaidez the barber really took care of me. He was the first one I saw when I came in, he took his time to understand what kind of style I was looking for, and didn't finish until I was completely satisfied and looking fresh. Back then he was cutting here out of Barber Lounge, located in Downey, CA. Coming from Philly I was skeptical to using a new Barber but Carlos got me looking sharp since 2013. Not only is he an expert at his craft but he is a professional. Carlos became a friend and family. I've been happy with my cut every time I left the chair. I don't even know why he hands me the mirror anymore lol. Now my boy has his own shop! It's amazing to see a great Barber, and friend develop his new business as a owner. My husband started going to Carlos when he was at a shop in Downey(a few years ago). He followed him to his shop which is here in Bellflower now. That's the only person my husband allows to fade him up, trim his beard get him back to looking normal. He started fading my son who has issues with sitting in the chair and allowing Carlos to do his job, but he's so patient with him and doesn't get aggravated or upset. He talks him through the haircut even if my son is not having it. I can appreciate that more then anything. His talent and people skills are great.
