My 2010 Ford Focus started making this grinding noise and it was having problems both braking and accelerating, I took it to the Ford dealership and they were being really shady and not answering my questions so, I was not about to pay them the ridiculous price they had asked for my repair. Coincidentally, when I went to Hertz to rent a replacement car for a few days the girl who rented me the car was telling me all about her mechanic in Van Nuys, and when she gave me the cross streets, I found IGM. I could not have had a better experience. Jonathan was amazing. He was friendly and attentive right from the very first phone call and told my boyfriend and I to bring the car in right away. Over the phone he was able to tell us there was something wrong with Ford's diagnosis (they had told me my water pump and front timing cover needed to be replaced) he said if that was true, then I wouldn't have been able to start my car, but- he would look at it free of charge and if that was what was really wrong with it then he could do it for about half what the dealership was charging. I brought the car in, and Jonathan listened to everything I had to say and then put my car on the lift and took me underneath it and showed me what he thought was wrong. I really appreciated that he took the time to not only tell me what he thought was wrong, but show me, so that I had an idea too. It turns out the Ford dealership had been totally wrong, not only was my water pump completely fine but my engine mounts were collapsing! Ford hadn't even said anything about that. Jonathan said that my engine had been sagging, so when I was driving the engine had knocked into the axle, and that was the crunching noise I had heard. He said I would have my car back by the next day, and I was more than happy to leave my car with him. Jonathan was very thorough and after the engine mounts were repaired he called me, said he had driven it around and it needed new tires, it could use shocks and struts and a tune-up. He told me the minimum amount of repairs I would need to get me back on the road as quickly as possible, and he also told me what optimally I should do. The price he quoted was more than fair so I decided to go with the full repairs. It took another day but it was totally worth it. My car is running smoother,it practically hums when I drive it and its more responsive and less rattley than when I got it. I will definitely be going back to IGM, for any of my auto needs. read more

I adore Jonathan! My Benz had a headlight out. I stopped by a place by my house where the mechanic clearly thought he could take advantage of me and told me it'd be a couple hundred bucks. That sounded ridiculous to me so I asked some friends if they knew a good mechanic and they referred me to IGM. I needed an oil change (which cost way less than Jiffy Lube at IGM), and he popped the headlight in for almost nothing!!!! This guy and this place are amazing... I will go there for ALL my car needs in the future and refer him until I'm blue in the face! He's a solid guy, does great work, and he's really damn cool to top it off. GO TO IGM,! read more

I was driving my 2004 Saturn Vue on the 101 to work when I noticed my engine was starting to overheat. My coolant light had come on the night before and I planned on stopping somewhere to grab some coolant. Unfortunately, my engine overheated on my way there and I had to pull over on the 101 and wait 30 minutes for the thing to cool down. Next I headed to Pep Boys on Van Nuys Blvd, where I filled up my coolant only to watch it leak out immediately. Their service center diagnosed a leaky radiator and quoted me an absurd estimate (over $1000). After texting a friend for a recommendation (I live near DTLA, not too familiar with the area), I gave IGM a call. They don't usually work on Saturn's, but he told me to bring it by. After paying the $40 diagnostic fee at Pep Boys (thanks, buttholes), I drove over to IGM. Not only were they able to do the work in 24 hours, but they did it at almost half of what Pep Boys quoted me. The staff was extremely personable and empathetic. I got a great deal on the repair, and it really saved me. THANK YOU IGM! When dealing with auto repair, it's hard to not get screwed, let alone find a place that treats you right and does a great job. I'm extremely grateful that I found this place. read more

TERRIBLE JOB!!!! If i could write negative 5 stars i would!! Took the car there paid 600 dollars to change the tensioner, he said he put brand new parts and throw in a new thermostat. After we took it there, the car broke down!! He had to fix it again and then something else breaks that needs another fix! We took it to someone else to check out then found out that everything he put in is 2nd hand! Not even brand new like he said!! Then he broke something else that needs fixing then never put back the cover and took the stick to check the oil level!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! HE'S A CROOK! read more

Jon and his team are great mechanics. Jon knows what he is doing, is good at what he does, honest, very personable, and his prices are super fair. He has a good attention to detail as well. My girlfriend's 99 jetta needed the timing belt replaced (as well as some other work), and when Jon replaced the belt, he put a sticker inside the engine bay showing the mileage for when the belt was changed. I know many mechanics wouldnt do that - by taking that small extra step, that shows me he takes pride in his work. Having that sticker lets anyone who looks under the hood know exactly how many miles that belt has on it so there will be no confusion down the road as to where that belt is at in its lifespan and when that labor intensive part will need to be replaced. He has earned our business for sure. 5/5 stars, would recommend again. read more

I haven't had too many mechanics in my day, but I can't imagine there are many better than John. The guy is quick and so much cheaper than everyone. I've gone to other mechanics to get estimates but I always go back to John because he's so much cheaper (and I've never had any issues with any of his work).
