I missed a roundabout and slid into a ditch full of brush and downed trees. The tow service dropped my car off at Ihle's, a service totally unknown to me. I was picturing $$$$ to repair the front end and continuing problems afterward. Instead, I only needed two new tires and rims. On his weekly out-of-state commute my husband noticed a problem braking at high speeds. We brought his '08 Lexus ES350 in to Ihle first thing Monday morning, without an appointment, expecting parts to have be ordered, and to have to wait at least a day for things to be fixed. Ihle had the problem fixed and the car back to us by 3 o'clock that afternoon. Last July my air conditioning broke down on the way to Michigan from Maine. I needed it fixed for the trip back in 85 degree heat. Ihle's was the closest to my home so I called. Initially they said that they were booked up for the next week. I told them that I was desperate for a repair ASAP and they told me to bring it right in. It was fixed in two days for a great price. They were very nice and even fished the broken part out of the trash and explained what had broken. It's a small shop, but they did everything right. I live in Saugatuck and believe in supporting our local businesses. However, I will not pay excessively to do so. Over the past 20+ years, I've gone to Ihle's several times for estimates on various repairs for vintage, older, and newer vehicles. Comparing their price quotes with other repair facilities, I have found that they are extremely expensive, a few times, more than twice the price for identical repairs. When I've stopped in for a quote, the receptionist was always courteous and friendly. From what I've heard, the mechanics are knowledgeable, skilled repairmen. Their niche is that they are the only repair facility in Saugatuck. Visitors who don't know the area or those who don't have towing insurance, feel that they have no other option. Many shops give free estimates. When you know what the problem is, price check your repair cost. With a little time making a few calls, you can save yourself lots of $$$ read more
