We stopped in to grab some lunch after freshman move in day at UNI. There were 6 of us and there were multiple tables open. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated after the hostess said the waitress was too busy. When we were seated at a table that had been open the whole time, the hostess took our drink order and brought them out. She was great. The waitress came and took our order, 3 of the meals ordered the endless pancake option. The hostess brought our food out about 25 minutes later. Plates were hot but the food itself was barely warm. The waitress didn't come back until she brought the bill so our 3 endless pancake meals didn't get more than the 2 cakes that came with. There were maybe 6 other tables with people. Not a great experience. Hopefully they can get more staff since school starts Monday. read more

Met friends for Saturday evening supper, table of 5. Place felt deserted and dark. It was. Our food came out staggered and only one dinner was correct. Evidently they were out of strawberry sauce for crepes so chef snuck the mixed berry sauce on both orders instead & that took forever to correct. He only sliced a few strawberries on top, there was no sauce. The Salisbury steak dinner came without green beans and chef forgot to heat those up twice. Since when do you get charged 90 cents for gravy to go on mashed potatoes with a turkey dinner? As far as desserts go, the waffle came only with ice cream, no fruit, no sauce whatsoever, that must have been hard to choke down. We have a dining out problem going on here in the Cedar Valley. There are lots more places that should just close the doors and give it up. I Hop is another's one. It's always empty. I'm sick of the short staffed complaint. Looks like they definitely had a rough launch. I've been back three times now since my horrid, one-star experience, and they've gotten much better. Managers have always been there and checked in about how I liked my food. I have always received my food promptly and my check accurately - and I've even seen the manager pitching in to refill drinks and bring food. Have to love management that gets involved. Looks like they took their crappy launch to heart and have been doing a whole lot better. No complaints here any more. I've eaten here twice now. It's a solid eat with ok service and predictable food. They are still struggling to keep it staffed. There were signs everywhere hiring for all positions. I could tell this by the fact that the same person seated us, got our drinks, food, our bill and was bussing all tables. There were several people eating here for 10 am on a Wednesday. Our food came in an ok amount of time. I ordered the apple fritter donut French toast with hash browns, scrambled eggs and ham. It was all good. As expected. My husband ordered pancakes, bacon, hash browns and eggs. His was all cooked and prepared to his liking. For those two meals and one water, one soda it was $24. The waiter was nice even though he obviously had a lot going on with doing almost every job. The restaurant was clean and tidy. The restrooms were also clean. Worst service in a long time! When we arrived the waitress was in the back of the restaurant caring for her child and her what appeared to be "partner" was laying down in the booth. There was one other table there when we arrived and they were in their way out. After a few minutes of standing there she notices us. There was no greeting but she sat us down. Surrounded by unclean tables. there was another waitress who was wrapping silverware. It took us over 40 minutes to get our food (pancakes and eggs). We had to track our waitress down to get refills and then she still walk by several times without refilling. The other waitress (assumed to be a manager) sat a couple and asked the waitress to clean her tables but never helped out. The bathroom was gross. Toilet paper, rolls, paper towels, and garbage all over the floor. Makeup all over the sink and mirror. I watched the waitress walk outside at least 10 times while there to check on her kid who was now out in the car. The male with the child would be in and out of the business, leaving the child in car alone at times. After getting our food we asked for syrup, Tabasco and silverware. She brought us silverware but forgot the Tabasco and syrup. So we asked again and the waitress had her friend bring the Tabasco over. Yea- she was hanging out with friends. There were five that came in, used used the bathroom and hung out for a few minutes. Of course at the time the child was in the car alone. We had to ask another male server (who arrived at the end) for syrup. She threw the Bill on the table and walked away and never came back. Thankfully we had cash. read more

I've visited this place multiple times in the last eight months. The food is just okay, and that's giving it the benefit of the doubt. I know this is a large chain but I have to say if you want to have healthy food, don't visit an IHOP, they're anything but healthy. This location does not wash their silverware or dishes properly as they've given me dirty silverware and a dirty coffee cup *every time*. The last time I visited I was given a rolled up set of silverware - when I unrolled it they were all dirty with eggs, grease, and other unidentifiable food(?) matter. After complaining, I was given a set of silverware from a nearby table - the same thing happened. Following my second complaint my server goes to a different table and grabs me a set of wrapped silverware again, they were dirty. I complained again and she went into the kitchen and brought me a clean pair, but no napkin. I get to the bottom of my coffee and (no kidding) there were unidentifiable food particulates in the bottom - no it wasn't coffee grounds. While there they were doing food tasting of the "to be next" menu items. I asked one of the men from the group, who was walking by my table if he was the manager. He told me no, he was visiting from the District Office with the new menu. This is perfect I thought to myself, maybe he can make improvements, so I advised him nicely of what I had been experiencing - including on that day. He didn't apologize nor offer to bring the manager to the table, instead, he just kept looking over his shoulder at the table where the rest of his group was tasting the new menu items. He wasn't even paying attention, it was apparent to me that what I was telling him wasn't as important as getting to try those new menu items! I said, "May I suggest, instead of changing the menu items so often perhaps IHOP might re-focus their attention to customer service, cleanliness, building maintenance, and training programs." He said, "Oh sure I can tell them." then he returned to his group. Okay, I decided to return to this location a couple more times after that day to see if he'd done or said anything to make changes. He obviously didn't not, or he didn't stay around to make sure changes got made because nothing has changed. I won't go back any time soon. read more

They still wear masks, and are very friendly even when they were clearly very busy and seemed a little short staffed for being on a wait. My wife and I have eaten here ever since they first opened. We love Ihop and have for years. We have always received great service and delicious food...well, until today. We know there are problems with staffing and supplies during the pandemic but when you provide excuses instead of reasons, that's when we say goodbye...we were greeted by the only waitress in the place but she had a smile on her face. She knew exactly where we sat because we have been there before. My wife is in a wheelchair and we have to sit at a table instead of a booth. No problem. We ordered coffees, no problem. I ordered chicken strips and my wife ordered the tilapia. Again no problem. Then the food was served. My wife's fish came with mashed potatoes, she got maybe 2 tablespoons of potatoes...the little cup of butter was more than the potatoes. Then she asked for tartar sauce. We were told that they no longer had tartar sauce available, they no longer ordered it because no one orders the fish that much anymore. That was excuse number one. Not a good reason, here's why...Not everyone uses salt and pepper, but it is on EVERY table. Same for sugar, not everyone uses it, but there are three kinds on EVERY table. I asked for honey mustard and got it. It was available. Now I usually go there for the breakfast foods but every time I do I get 1) butter for the toast 2) jelly for my toast and if I opt for the pancakes, I get butter and syrup. Pancakes are on the menu so "accessories are available. Same for the chicken. If I had ordered a hamburger, you bet there would be mustard and ketchup. Now the worst thing. When we got our bill, we were going to pay it with our debit cards. My wife and I have separate accounts because of our social security and insurance. So I had enough for the bill but not the tip. My wife had a little less than me so she was going to use what she had to pay part of bill then I would cover the rest and the bill. NO NO NO....we were told we could not pay that way. They do not accept more than one card. Even though every restaurant and store we have ever been in, they accpet it...IHOP does not. I told the waitress we could not pay it like that and she got very defensive and threw the bill down and said forget it. Now when I eat, I pay for it, even if the food is bad. So we compromised and when the waitress came back, I paid for the bill...I had a few cents left on my account, not enough for a tip so I left a dollar I found in my pocket. Sorry, server. But don't come harping about how you don't make the rules and you don't care but "That's the way it is"...It will be a long time before we set foot in that Ihop again. I tried to order my takeout online but the website wouldn't work for my order. I called in an order for a T-bone steak and eggs. The price I was given over the phone was higher than the price online. When I got the food home, I found out the pancakes were missing. The person taking the order didn't tell me that the order came with hash browns, so I ordered one. Well apparently the Cedar Falls location won't be like their counterpart. We waited twenty minutes and still didn't have a drink order, we informed a hostess who didn't apologize, only said she would get our server. When the server came to our table I noticed she had been the same server who was going to tables around us and delivering food and drinks, but somehow overlooked us for twenty minutes, she also did not apologize for overlooking our table. later we ordered our food and it was delivered promptly. My steak was amazing, but my husband's eggs were runny and he was unable to eat them afraid that they would make him sick. We decided to just finish the rest of the meal, pay and never return. Later I decided maybe I should let them know about the bad service because they had been open a short time and maybe feedback from a customer would help. The manager who I spoke to was very friendly and apologized even offering to send us a gift card if we would be willing to give them another chance. I decided to accept because heck free food (right?) and maybe the service will be better and my family and I would go back in the future. My wife doesn't like to eat here much but I sure do. Love taking the grandkids here as I always make the best breakfast foods for kids. I would recommend going there especially if time is a constraint. Although it's not the hometown feel they do have decent food for the money. Two tables close to use had not been cleaned waiting for our food 25 + minuets tables are still dirty. when our food Dose arrives it is all cold--- butter wont even melt in to the Pancakes they where so old the syrup (that I had to grab from another table because ours was gone) wouldn't even soak in. Camron is quite possibly the worst waiter I have ever had. First saw him 20 min after being seated took our drink order and we requested them to be served with the food but got water while we waited. Finished the water no Camron to refill it until our food came without our drinks but was never asked if we would like a refill on the water after setting the food down he vanished to the kitchen we had finished our food by the time he even thought about asking if everything was alright drinks finally came but only 3/4 full. Not sure why this place has such low reviews? I've been here probably 5-10 times in the last year or so, and every time the customer service is awesome. Every waiter/waitress is nice and attentive. The food is great and always comes out hot and the store is clean. This is actually probably the best IHOP I've been to, and I've been to many.
