I have visited this IHOP a number of times and have both positive and negative comments about the restaurant. on the positive side, I have always found the hostess, Liz to be customer friendly. She greets you warmly when you arrive and thanks you for coming when you leave. I have seen Liz cleaning tables, sweeping the floor, taking orders, and serving food, which to me seems to be more than the hostess normal duties. I have observed her checking on customers, serving coffee always with a smile. and when you leave Liz makes sure to thank you for coming. In my opinion Liz is a big asset to the Lorton Virginia IHOP at Gunson Plaza. Now for the negative comments. I can hear loud employee commotion, that sounds like arguing. Most of the time, I hear aloud female voice. This is not good for customers, as we are there to eat and not hear employees arguing. This should not be happening. This tells me that the manager doesn't care or is too weak to properly manage the operation. That will cause the restaurant to lose customers. HT read more

When you enter the building it looks like a nicely renovated location with updated decor. However it's smelled like the perfume section of a department store and the smell was overbearing. People with allergies must really have had a hard time breathing. It appeared to be the Asian woman who was manning the front cash register area. Tiva was our server and she was on point. She checked on us constantly, checked on how our food was when it came out, and refilled coffee without asking. The food was ok . We ordered the sirloin tips and eggs. We went to this location for breakfast on Father's Day. It took us roughly 15 minutes to get seated because we had a party of 7. We ordered our food pretty quick after sitting g down, but waited an hour & half to get our food. All other smaller tables got their food before us. We almost walked out. This IHOP used to be a staple in the area but during my last visit, I was shocked as to how much the half Peruvian/half Chinese hostess lady could not be more careless and unprofessional regarding my order and the order of other customers. I was there to pick up an online order and she was at the front desk refusing to acknowledge me and only said "Go ask the Fat Guy," rudely making reference to a disabled waiter who was busy serving a table. There was also a Door Dash driver waiting at the front who was dismayed at the low quality of service from this rude hostess and then to add insult to injury, she overheard the both of talking about where we from and made a rude joke about my country of origin. I always wondered why this place looked like it was running out of business. When I go there, one server ignore us until the bill comes then give a lot of attention .Starts wiping the table while were packing our food up. I was literally thirsty my entire meal. So I have a toddler and she went to another empty table right next to us, granted she should listen when I tell her to sit beside me , but this lady with a blonde wig and wide figure goes you need to get her shes messing with the syrups! She moved the table while she was underneath it and I visited once more after this and she mugs us everytime we go in even when my daughter is behaving. I call a minute after requesting a sad face and not a happy face on my daughters pancake because once again she is a toddler that's a huge deal. The lady on the phone goes "Why you didnt call earlier?" and "Where are you now"? they could not understand "sad face" AT ALL, I talked to two people... they hang up on me and block me! I was never rude. So then I message my dasher and she tries too she said she tried to tell them 3x and they dont understand. THEN my dasher tells me they canceled the order.. NOT ON THE APP... NOT ON THE PHONE TO ME... but just told her they never made the order. So finally my order gets to me and its COLD! Like why is it cold if you all supposedly never made the order and she had to wait. Not even seated for 2 mins and our server approaches us with her hands full of dirty dishes, exceeding our drink orders and rushing us because her hands are full. Shorty, do better. Please don't work in customer service if you don't have patience, nor structure and professionalism. Also, if you feel like you need to speak Spanish to a customer, at least learn the language first so we can understand you. Very slow and understaffed. I had a very strict waitress like I was eating and someone's Grandma's place. There were several arguments about who was going to take what table. The table next to me checked out before me and the waitress asked them if the tissue they blew their nose in was contaminated. I got in trouble for switching condiments with a different table as there was no ketchup left in mine. She told me to please let her do it. I felt ashamed like I was in trouble with Granny. Ok, truth be told, we were celebrating an 11 year old's birthday, and this was his restaurant of choice. Needless to say, I thought I would never find something healthy to eat and boy, was I in for a surprise. Hadn't been to an IHOP in probably 40+ years and the menu has changed dramatically. Salads, quesadillas, and of course pancakes. The food was delicious, but the best part was the lovely, patient, kind woman that served us and put up with our shenanigans. Sahara, you are amazing. Went in for some breakfast around noon, well staffed and I believe there were at least 2 managers on scene. I was greeted and sat within minutes, ordered coffee and then the egg white pesto omelette w/hash browns. Coffee was consistently refilled and the omelette was tasty along with crunchy hash browns. My server was Alijah he did wonderful. Friendly and on point with myself and the tables around. There was another server dressed with a black shirt that was haggling him, if you can't work as a team and be supportive then maybe you don't need this job. The garlic bread tasted like it was a day old. do not get the french fries with honey mustard bad idea. fries are soggy and also a day old. very nice interior pleasing to the eye. that water down lemonade, taste like a butt cheek on a stick. The hostess who seated us was super welcoming and friendly. Table was slightly dirty as she sat us, but she came back with a cloth, apologized, and cleaned the table. One set of silverware was dirty, but we just grabbed another set off a nearby table. Our order was taken by the server who has problems walking, and food came within a reasonable time. No problems with food at all. However, things got weird when the server brought our bill and literally wouldn't let us see it. He held onto the bill and tried to just take our credit card. I was cah- RAVING a hot chocolate from somewhere and my sister was b hungry sooo we decided on IHOP. Monica is glueten free, so we shared a 2x2x2 plate replace the buttermilk pancakes with GF and honestly, they were DELISH. I was skeptical but it worked out and she was happy too. Also our waitress was AMAZING, she kept calling us "lovelies" and tbh usually that stuff annoys me, but you could just TELL she was a genuine soul - it was so sweet. Her name was Janae. Okay, what is it with IHOPs? First, no one was up front to seat us for a few minutes. When seated, was told, "I won't be your server, but I will FIND one for you." 9 minutes later, he came. We ordered the roasted turkey melt. While a tad slow to arrive, it was tasty with lukewarm fries. Our server was nice and checked on us a couple of times, rare for an IHOP at 12:30 am. First, I have been at this location once or twice before with no issues. I visited this IHOP prior to my getting on the auto train and ordered an Impossible Burger with no tomatoes as I am allergic. Coffee came out quickly and was completely on point. Great coffee. Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. Burger comes out 20 minutes later with jalapeños. I told waitress I did not order jalapeños - she tried to persuade me to just take it off - when I informed her I was allergic, she reluctantly agreed to make another burger. After 10 minutes I had to leave to catch the train; I paid for the coffee and they refused to provide a receipt. The local GM and owner only offered a gift card that can be used only at the Lorton restaurant. When I told them I was rarely there they informed me they had nothing to do with IHOPs that I frequent. A fairly average IHOP. The standard menu. Service is polite but often slow. Getting a second cup of coffee often seems to take ages. They offer inside seating. Staff wears masks, not always properly. I have seen a lot of noses sticking out. They have hand sanitizer and sanitize tables, but are not very good at social distancing between customers. They tend to seat people at booths and tables right next to strangers even when there are plenty of vacant tables available. Free Wifi! read more

Kids paper mat and crayons ( they were running extremely low) enchanted the Young'n. We were asked how our food was fairly soon afrer service, and needed replacement silverware provided after granddaughter dropped her fork. Tea selection was decent, variety green teas, chamomile, although black teas gone except for decaf (nice touch!) Earl Grey, but I did not ask for it and I suspect waitress would've found Something agreeable. Plenty of lemon and honey. Food was delicious, although we could not finish it all, and packed about half of mine and lil one's in the to-go containers. I asked to speak with the manager, who promptly appeared - so I could tell her how delightful the meal was. It was, frankly, best dining-in experience ever at this ihop (in over 5 years!) As we were leaving, I commented to a couple dining nearby, and they agreed it was wonderful. Way to Go IHOP! Terrible, terrible service! They got these servers who careless if you're waiting for food, for water, to place an order or come back with the receipt. I had to go and ask for water and go back again and ask for the receipt then had to go back and ask them to actually charge my receipt! After all that mess, my husband insisted I had to leave a tip which I did!!! Why is it so hard to just do the work you're hired for? Those owners pay massive rent, wages, taxes, bills and here comes that one girl which ruins the entire sweat and blood placed in the spot! Then there was a shift change and apparently our server was now off shift. We waited 20 minutes and then asked if we had a server. (another table of 2 adjacent to us, just walked out due to no service. In another 20 minutes we received our food by a really rude server who obviously did not appreciate having our table added to his list. We finally got the bill and prepared to leave. Stopped in there today around 1:30 with a friend and we both ordered the roast turkey w/mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli and garlic toast... The food was great and the only glitch was getting someone to wait on us after being seated, which took about 10 minutes... After this delay, it was smooth sailing... A side salad came with the order, and l appreciated being asked if we would like the salad before the entree arrived and we both said "yes".... After eating, l went to the rest room and found it highly disappointing.... Both urinals were full of ice cubes, something l have NEVER seen before...The ONLY reason l can fathom this being done was SOMEONE got the brainstorm idea this might reduce having to CLEAN the urinals....a wild thought l know, but what else is left to the imagination? Checking the floor, the areas around the urinals, which are separated by a partition, revealed those areas wet and stinking of urine to the high heavens. By the strong odor, it is clear this bathroom floor has NOT SEEN a mop in a long time.... This being around 2:30, tells me the MORE than 24 hours have passed since a cleaning took place... Shame on I HOP! Hopefully someone from there will see my posting! What makes this even sadder, is l'm sure some of the MALE Employees use this bathroom at some point....The MOD needs to inspect the restrooms at least ONCE while on duty!! read more
