The food at the IHOP on 20900 Cicero Avenue, Matteson, IL serves the best breakfast food that my niece and I have ever had. The pancakes and the waffle were light and fluffy, the eggs were scrambled to perfection, the bacon (both turkey and pork) were crispy and delicious, and the grits were hot and creamy, just like homemade. You probably think that the food was the highlight, but actually, it was the customer service. Maddy, the GM, was beyond amazing and gave superior customer service and customer care. She was attentive to all of our requests and needs and she made sure that our food was hot and fresh. Then, she passed the baton to Victor, the other GM, who was filling in for the cook and he cooked the best breakfast that we have ever had! We have eaten at IHOP restaurants around the country, but this was by far, the best experience that we've ever had. And we can't forget our wonderful server Bernice. She was kind, thorough, quick, and had a sweet personality and kind disposition. Very slow service, the waitress took a long time to offer the coffee and the cutlery just like the table had no sugar or flavorings for the coffee, the waitress seemed to only peek out trying to hide from us so as not to take what we ordered. Please check your receipt before providing payment. The employees steal from customers by adding items to the bill that you didn't order, rushing customers to pay and not providing the itemized bill. Today I witnessed two waitresses and the manager add eggs to a bill that the customer didn't order, add drinks to bills for three more customers who didn't order them. That's 4 customers in 30 minutes. Once they're notified the bill is incorrect they double charge clients for the incorrect bill and the correct bill explaining you will be refunded in three business days. UNACCEPTABLE! read more

I only write reviews for extraordinarily good or bad service, this place service is getting progressively worse. My kids ate before me so I couldn't check their food but as I cut into the pancakes, they bleed with batter. I am absolutely livid. I just returned from IHOP in Matteson. I had three members of our company team meet me there for breakfast before heading out. The first problem, the waitress did not get my order correct. When they did finally bring the correct order to the table, it was not what was pictured in menu. I ordered blueberry pancakes. What I finally received was buttermilk pancakes with blueberry sauce on top of the pancakes. Because we were delayed in getting the original order, I just kept the pancakes. One of my team members ordered an omelette. After he began to eat it, he noticed a long black hair in the food, he stopped to inspect it and showed it to all of us. I immediately summoned the Manager over. After arriving to the table, he was shown the plate with the hair still embedded in the food. He apologized, removed the plate and asked if my team member wanted another or something else. He chose a different order. As we continued to wait for his order to arrive at the table, I could not finish my order after witnessing the long hair follicle in his plate. After waiting a while, we decided to go to the counter and pay the order ticket. While at the counter, I noticed a long-bearded male cook preparing meals in the kitchen. He was not wearing a beard net. I again summoned the Manager to escalate my original complaint. The Manager even with the knowledge that a hair follicle had already been reported, still did not relieve the cook. There were no hair or beard nets worn by any of the cook staff. In short, I will report this to both the IHOP Corporate and the Cook County Health Department. I was completely appalled at the lackadaisical response of the manager. This is a very unsafe food handling practice for any restaurant to allow. The Manager was totally incompetent. Never went to the bathrooms but the seating areas and waiting area are tidy. Customer service is average. Never can complain by nothing too special. Waiters and hosts are friendly and attentive. Food is like your average ihop. No complaints there. I always ask for hot old fashion syrup and they are always nice enough to get it before my food comes out. This time I got the "split decision" combo which had French toast, eggs your way, sausage, bacon and a side of pancakes. Everything was pretty decent except the eggs were pretty bland. My three year old granddaughter and I went here. I Ordered a ham, bacon and cheddar omelette, she got chicken strips and corn. We were given plastic silverware to eat with. The waitress brought our food and never came back to the table until she brought the check. My omelette was was wrong, it only had ham and they put some kind of white sauce on it. After a few bites I started to feel nauseous. The chicken strips were almost burnt. I pealed the coating off because I couldn't cut it with the plastic knife. I don't know when was the last time the menus were wiped down both ours were just filthy with food and beverages all over them. And come to find out they are out of a lot of things. This is the worst IHop. Although today was Father's Day, we waited forever even though it wasn't that crowded. The restaurant was a total mess with stuff on the floor and dirty tables. The coffee pot we received was stained and dirty as well. Multiple take out orders were incorrect and customers were complaining. The waiter took 15 minutes before he spoke to us and another 15 minutes before he gave us our coffee and orange juice. No silverware, no napkins, no water. He made sure to tell us the kitchen was backed up and there would be an extended wait for our food. Also said they temporarily stopped seating people so they could catch up. The bathroom didn't have soap in the dispensers - so I was particularly worried about hygiene, germs and the cleanliness of the workers. When our food finally arrived, my eggs were runny (they were supposed to be scrambled with onions and cheddar cheese), my bacon was burnt, and my pancakes were lukewarm at best. I asked for some warm syrup that the waiter said he put in the microwave - but I never received it. I will say that our waiter was kind and tried to manage the situation, even gave us a great discount, but overall experience was awful. We arrived at 10:30am and didn't leave until 12:45pm and there were just two of us that ordered basic pancake combos. Just unacceptable. If you ever want to punish yourself, I suggest you try to eat here.... Let me begin with the hostess. Plus size, black woman.. long black hair.. no personality. When we got there, there were about 5 people seated at the entrance, and 1 young lady waiting at the register for a take out order. The hostess was counting out singles, but never acknowledged anyone. I waited for someone else to come over to seat people, but everyone else just walked by. I waited til she counted out her money, for her to say something... no smile, no nothing. I had to ask her if she was taking names, or giving out numbers. Her answer was, AH HUH. She took our name. I asked her about how long of a wait, she said 15 or 20 minutes. There was probably 30 OPEN TABLES!!!! Why did we have to wait to be seated??!! So, we finally get seated, and it takes our server another 7 or 8 minutes to come to our table. She takes our drink orders.. 2 coffees with lots of French vanilla cream and 2 waters. Ten minutes later, we got our drinks. She disappears after dropping off the drinks. Another 6 or 7 minutes, and she returns to take our order. My husband had the chicken enchilada omlette, which he said was fantastic. I had 2 poached eggs.. soft..which were more soft cooked than poached, with ice cold bacon, and a peach crepe stuffed with cream cheese. The crepe was great. I watched the kitchen area. At least 5 servers on a regular basis, were in front of the kitchen window. They all seemed robotic, waiting for food to come up. I didn't see any expeditor putting the food on trays, and helping out. Sad. The place was filthy. Our table was gummy and sticky.. the bathroom was gross.. and the menus were dirty.
