why am i rating an IHOP? why are people giving this IHOP such good reviews? relative to like 40+ ihop experiences in my life, my one here was the worst. It's sad, but I almost cried. I knew exactly what I wanted before i sat down (what I ordered the other 40 times despite the menu claiming it being "new") - Country Fried Steak and Eggs: fried steak, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, and hopefully, if the waitress messes up, some bacon too. "Fried Steakkk? We don't have that now. Oh, I'll... leave you alone, I can see you need more time..." ???? So instead I settled for 3 pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and bacon. that won't satisfy me. food came eerily fast and i didn't like having to ask for a separate plate for my pancakes as well as hot maple syrup. i didn't like that their interpretation of a carafe is 2 regular glasses. i didn't like paying $15 for breakfast at a franchise in long island and still feel like my stomach could use a chalupa. it was all disheartening. i'm not trying to be silly/funny. this really sucks, IHOP of oceanside. why did i check in here? read more

Came here on Sunday a week ago for a pickup order. I always liked IHOP growing up, this is the best one i have been to. First off, the service was terrific. I was greeted promptly and with smiles. They took the order at the counter quickly and with no drama at all. When the order came out, and it was for 4 people, it was perfect with nothing misses or done incorrectly. They always give you ample food and you never are hungry afterward. I loved my smokehouse breakfast with the HUGE sausage links being yummy. The overeasy egg was nicely done with the yolk coming out and adding to my hash browns. just a great way to start my day. read more

This place is heaven on a cold Sunday in January. You never wait long, and the food is huge. Breakfast anytime. I love it. Also, a suggestion: mix some of the pancake syrups like strawberry or blueberry into your coffee. It's something I've failed to replicate at home, and I'll probably suffer heart failure from it, but it's an incredibly delicious experience. read more

Standard IHOP - pancakes, eggs, omelettes - all delicious! Parking sucks due to the tiny lot and no street parking, but in the time it takes to be seated, your hubby can wait for someone to leave, then join you inside. The only thing wrong with this or any IHOP is the customers! People expect so much for a place that's relatively cheap! We ALWAYS have the displeasure of witnessing a patron complaining to the manager about something frivolous - probably hoping to get some sort of discount. IT'S IHOP! It's an IHOP, so you know the food situation when you're headed in. I have probably been to an IHOP about two times since my high school days when we had one right across the street, but sometimes you just need some butter pecan syrup on a short stack! Yesterday was one of those mornings. This location is pretty small and cramped, and I could imagine has a wait on busier meal times. Luckily, we were headed in right around 11am so we were seated right away. The gentleman who seated us was pleasant and welcoming, unfortunately one server was apparently annoyed she had to wait for us to be seated for her to walk past, so once the gentleman who was seating us walked past her, she shoved in front of us rolling her eyes and pushed right past. Not generally a good way to start it off and I was just praying she wasn't our server. Thank goodness, she wasn't. Our server, Michelle, was pleasant. She came right over for drink orders, came right back for meal orders, checked in a couple times and did a fine job. She saved the trip! It did seem like there were way too many people working there though. As I said earlier I got the short stack of pancakes, which in reality is just the socially acceptable vehicle for the butter pecan syrup. Love that stuff. As expected, the syrup holders are sticky all over so be prepared and grab it with a napkin! The pancakes themselves were a bit underdone in the middle but it was good enough for the price. S.O got a veggie omelet which he enjoyed. Said it was very fresh and nothing was over or under cooked. The fruit salad side, on the other hand, was likely canned - syrupy and tart so he says he could have done without that. Bacon was good! Cooked crispy, which is the way we like it! All in all I've got my IHOP fix for the next few years, but if you've got that craving this location isn't a bad option. read more

I have been to this restaurant few days ago.I was disappointed with the customer service. I was calling the server for a plate but he wasn't listening to me and busy with other customers. I called other servers too. He also ignored my request. Then I had to go to the counter asking for an extra empty plate. I was surprised to get a bill of 60 for only two waffles, pancake and few french toasts. One waffle cost for more than $10? Last time I was in Ihop was few years back. I didn't check the price this time. I felt it's too expensive for the food which is nothing special. I can buy or make these breakfast items with less than $10. Besides I was charged for $10 tip in my credit card whereas I wrote $5 tip when I got the bill. So total $70 lost for this luxury breakfast! read more

Prolly because we had burned an insane amount of calories at bounce u, but damn...having carbs makes the world a better place. The best part..kids are free after 4pm. They need to work on their iced coffee. Other than that i love going to restaurantss that are practically empty. read more

Nice to know somethings never change. Went in at 12:45pm yesterday and asked for a table for one - not a booth (bad back). They seated me in a back room where one table was just finishing up and the rest of the room was empty. The table was cleared but not washed. Guy comes and wipes the table with a rag that smelled like mildew and throws silverware wrapped in a paper napkin at me. Server comes over with the menu and I order coffee with half and half. She comes back quickly with the coffee asks if I'm ready to order, I said no, she said take your time. The other table left and a bus person comes over to clear the table - actually I thought he was trying to break the dishes he was so rough - I asked if he could get the server. Now I am alone in the room. Truly 10 minutes pass and about 4 staff come in - is this their break room? I ask again for the server and they seemed to purposely not understand me and start to laugh. This is why it is important not to speak in a foreign language - it makes people feel your are talking about them - simply just good manners. Well the server never comes - I get up to leave and one of the staff has a break through of perfect English and nastily says she's coming. It was 1:15 pm. There were maybe 8 tables seated in the main room. There can be no possible excuse for such poor attitude and service. Mr. Cocky Manager - a fish rots from the head. Look up the definition of hospitality and translate it into as many languages as you have to and share it with your staff. I had no aspirations of fine dining when going to an IHOP for lunch but I did expect basic pleasant service. BTW - The place is still filthy. read more

Oh, don't get me started. It's one thing eating at the restaurant, but picking up food is the pits. 3 times in the last 2 months, I have ordered food to be picked up. When I got home to serve it to my family, there has ALWAYS been something missing. So I have to call them up, get an attitude, abandon my hot food and drive back to the store to pick up the missing item which I paid for, and to get another attitude. Oh, they say they're sorry for the inconvenience, and then roll their eyes at you. Today I have had it. They not only missed an item, but there was a bug in my order of grits. Ah IHOP, the spot where the ad looks 10x better than the actual food. I had a craving for fluffy pancakes and figured why not go to IHOP they have all these various flavors at such a good price its almost impossible not to come once in your lifetime and give it a shot. Came in here on a sunday morning- which is the worst thing you can do if your hungry because you will wait 30 mins just to get seated. The line outside the door means the food must be good right- or so you'd think. Finally got seated and placed the order, hash browns, chocolate pancakes, creme boulle french toast and a omelet. Also got the iced tea. the iced tea was a strange flavor combo tasted chemically sweet- very unusual. My chocolate pancakes were decent- fluffy they were not. Stuffed Creme brûlée french toast was amazing. Hash browns were legit still halfway raw. I don't know how they allowed it to come out of the kitchen it wasn't even cooked on the inside! Omellete was very good as well. Overall, its typical cheap american diner food. Also- note we ordered while we were waiting online via the internet and the waitress was confused and thought we were taking it to go so the food came in container boxes while we ate there. read more

It's mmeeeh. It's nothing special and it's not horrible either. Parking sucks. It's difficult to get into the parking lot and it's also a pain in the ass to get out of the lot. The restaurant itself is old and could use a renovation. Service is OK. Every time I've been there I didn't have to wait very long to get a seat, which is a bonus since it seems like there's such a long wait in other IHOPs. Food is good. If this restaurant didn't have the brand recognition of 'IHOP' it would've been out of business years ago. I guarantee half their food comes out of a microwave. The food was GROSS. My friend didn't eat any of his food because it was gross. I choked my food down. The customer service was HORRIBLE. Took too long to get our order taken, they messed up the order once it came, and when I went up to pay the lady said "why are you looking at me like that". I asked what she was talking about. She said "you're looking at me with shocked face like I told you high price". I still genuinely do not know what she read on my face, but I can assure you I wasn't sweating a $13 bill. The atmosphere was poor. The French toast was stiff. Horrible experience. I don't like to be a negativity troll, and I was hoping to have a positive experience, but this was atrocious. It is what you come to expect from IHOP -- Consistently good pancakes, eggs / omlettes and coffee by the carafe. I have not had anything other than breakfast here, and really don't plan on venturing any further -- this is what they are good at and don't want to jinx my tastebuds. This location is ALWAYS busy on the weekends, although the wait time is rarely any more than 15 or 20 minutes for a party 4 or 5. When you crave pancakes, this is the place to go. read more

I wouldnt think of rating an IHOP, but I think the Oceanside location stands out. They always greet folks with a smile and try to seat you as quickly as possible. Coffee is always hot and fresh. The food is...well IHOP...It's not gourmet, but do you really want it to be? Its a great place to hang out and relax...try the mozzarella sticks, they will surprise you. On Wed. 10-17-2012 my wife and I decided to eat at IHOP located at 407 Long Beach Road in Oceanside, N.Y.11572. We walked in sat down. We quickly noticed several customers were complaining about their food and the service. This bald young man walked over to some of the customers to address their complaints. He identified himself as the restaurant manager and offered to take something off their bill. At the same time my wife and I notced someone arguing in the kitchen area. Another customer had walked in a women in her 40's with a young boy. She sat patiently waiting to be served. The waiter finally came over we gave him our order. Every year for the past decade I get a special coupon for a rooty Tooty pancake special on my birthday. What a great idea I hop had. They let me switch the pancakes for another item of equal or less value. That too was a great marketing pleasing customer idea. Well, that has now changed at the oceanside store. The manager said they are not doing that anymore. I told the waitress how disappointed I was since this became my holiday shopping, by myself treat. I told them I wouldn't spend another dime at IHOP. All the family get togethers. Sunday breakfasts of the past, spent with family. My children's school time celebrations, a play or a sport they won at. I will find another place. One that is frankly cheaper and better quality. A long time customer, a long time tradition lost over a few pennies. read more

Enjoy coming here. Parking lot is always full, the wait for 2 is usually 15-20 minutes but so worth it. Staff is friendly and the portion size is more than any other IHOP I've been too. I will be there tomorrow morning to have breakfast with my son. read more

Typically I LIVE for ihop omelets and pancakes. I would have no issues giving ihop 5 stars, so this review is reflective of only my last visit to this location. The waitress came over and took the order. I asked for two country omelets with sides of buttermilk pancakes for me and my guest - I didn't need a menu - I know what's good! As I'm ordering, the waitress is looking at me - not jotting anything down - I'm thinking ok, this is one of those waitresses that remembers stuff easily - Me, on the other hand, I have to write EVERY little thing down (otherwise, in one ear, out the other). Well, when the food comes out, I notice the omelets are different than what I ordered - they have no hash browns, no sour cream - this can't be right! They gave me plain ham and cheese omelets instead - kind of the base of what I wanted, minus a few ingredients. So I mentioned this to the waitress and her response was "they made the wrong omelets." I'm fine with that - cooks make a mistake, no big deal. I started to eat and then looked down at the bill.... The kitchen didn't make the mistake. This waitress HERSELF put in an order for the wrong omelets - her memory is not all she thinks it is. She shouldn't have lied and blamed her error on the cooks. That's sooooo not cool. In addition to telling the truth, better customer service on her part would have also had her offer to have the omelets remade or offered a discount for the mistake. At the very least, she could have brought out a side of the ingredients the omelets we wanted had in addition to just the ham and cheese we got. But I suppose no one taught this server any of this so I'm only going to give my visit to IHOP today 3 stars read more

I want to like this ihop so much just because of the delicious dishes I see on the commercials but somehow everytime I go there, the food looks like it was just thrown on a plate, the cups are always stained with coffee stains and although the serivce is nice, theres always something that makes me not want to finish my meal. this place is always crowded, but wait times are minimal. the food is solid but not extraordinary, and special requests ( no hollandaise on my eggs benedict) don't throw them. it is a good bet for a breakfast you will enjoy. read more
