I had just flown into Charleston on a Friday morning and stopped in here to get some breakfast before making the drive down to Williamson. I don't normally eat at an IHOP as I much prefer eating at a Cracker Barrel. It was already a pretty warm morning which kind of sucked as their air conditioning was broken. They had temporary machines inside blowing "cold" air, but they definitely were not sufficient as the restaurant felt like a sauna. I felt bad for the employees, especially the ones working inside the kitchen! After looking over their menu, I ordered coffee and their t-bone steak & eggs. We came here late morning on a Sunday, we didn't have too long of a wait to be seated which surprised me a little as the restaurant was pretty packed. We did have a bit of a wait for our food after ordering however it was, as I said, a Sunday morning so really that's to be expected. I got southwestern poblano eggs Benedict and a side of fruit. It was pretty good, didn't come out super hot more like warmer than room temperature but not in any way cold or anything like that. 1) Service was good. 2) Natural Turkey dinner with mashed potatoes gravy, macaroni and cheese and garlic toast. 2a) Brought my food and no gravy for potatoes. They said they were out. However there was some on my turkey. 2b) Took a bite of turkey and spit it out. Tasted like rotten meat. Picked up a piece of turkey and it smelled Rotten. 2c) macaroni and cheese was ok. Fairly standard chain style service. Food is sometimes great, and sometimes not. Service at this location has been 80% positive and food mostly good. This visit was a good visit. The service was quick and friendly and the food hot and fresh. We split the ham and cheese omelette with upgraded strawberry NY cheesecake pancakes off the hoppy hour menu. Then the GM decided that she had to have a meeting with the employees, which cause us not to get our drinks for another 15 minutes, not to mention the fact that we could hear the entire meeting of employees getting yelled at! Best IHop I've been to. Service was amazing. Our server made sure everything was good and it was. Clean, unlike a good few places that are like this type of restaurant. Food was really good. We were celebrating an early Mother's Day and two birthdays, and we had a great experience. I was embarrassed with the birthday song, but my niece enjoyed it. We both liked the free ice cream. I had the Cheeseburger Omelette, and I was shocked how good it was. It seemed too odd, so I had to try. Was stuffed to the rafters. But every omelette comes with 3 pancakes, so I got the blueberry. I was too full, I thought, then I bit into the pancakes and went, "oh no, it's really good." Haha! Dad helped finish them, though. Then, that's when the bday ice cream came. :o Somehow survived. While the iHob didn't work out for them as a new brand, they actually make great burgers. But, I will say, I recommend if you love pancakes, *breakfast foods (me!) or iHops in general. Food: Still a decent breakfast option, and 15-20 years ago, was the bomb. Now there are other more inspired breakfast options popping up, with a greater focus on healthy ingredients, higher quality coffee, and a less Shoneys-like atmosphere. Pancakes are pretty strong of course, and the options are nice, however many of them are more like sugar-packed desserts. My wife really appreciates that they have a gluten-free waffle, so that's a highlight. Other breakfast sides are good, but nothing exceptional. Service: OK. I feel we were fortunate in that we seemed to get the most pleasant server in the whole place. Even though the order was incorrect, they refunded an item without us asking, which was nice. Price: Average, a bit too much for regular visits probably. Atmosphere: Not always very clean and feels a bit too crowded sometimes. There were some pretty rough & loud customers that made it unpleasant to eat around. My kids like it, but once they grow up, we'll probably go elsewhere most of the time I imagine. Upon entering the restaurant I was was greeted and seated quickly, a good start. Then my server quickly came to my booth. He was very polite and accommodating, again things going well. Then I received my meal. This is where things fell apart. I ordered the ham Benedict with hash browns. The hash browns were cold and rubbery. The English muffin was also cold and not toasted. To my surprise, even the poached eggs were cold, as was the sauce. I'm not sure what happened, but this was the worst breakfast I've ever had. I stayed at the holiday inn express last night, i noticed a low score for this ihop and was hesitant about coming here. Im glad i did! Great breakfast! I was the first customer theu the door this morning and was greeted with a smile from a nice server. She quickly brought me a drink and took my order... 2x2x2 over easy, bacon with white toasr on the side. Within just a couple minute my food came out hot fresh and correct. While i was eating, she checked in several times to make sure i was satisfied and refilled my drink. Overall... very happy with great food and great service... 5 stars from me! read more

There was a party before us that had waited several minutes for seating then left. My husband and I were at this location yesterday and it was a joke. Older gentleman taking names for the wait list was sour. No greeting or eye contact, often left the front area to walk around. Went there this morning. It was busy, but not too crazy. Was seated promptly and waited a little while to order. Waiter showed up to take our order and things went downhill after that. I ordered the Simple and Fit 2 Egg Breakfast. I asked for butter with the wheat toast and that's when things turned. The waiter informed me that meal I ordered only came with fruit or toast. I told him that it comes with both, and he told me that , "I am not going to argue with you." I was offended,and I tried to show him the menu. Despite me opening the menu he did not look and said it would be ok. Still feeling offended I just went along with it, since they were busy. After five minutes the waiter came back. He told me that he had talked to the manager and I would get the toast after he talked to the manager. I once again tried to show him the menu, he once again did not look at it. Honestly, I was pretty upset at this point. It felt like that IHOP thought that my agenda was to steal toast. Well the meal showed up. I got a veggie omelet. There are two healthy options on the menu. The Simple and Fit Two Egg Breakfast and the Egg White Vegetable Omelette. I said, this isn't what I ordered. I asked for the Simple and Fit Two Egg Breakfast. At this point, I realized the waiter got confused between the two healthy breakfasts. I could see were he was coming from, if I ordered the omelette, it doesn't come with toast and fruit. But, I didn't order the omelette, I ordered the two egg breakfast and it came with fruit and toast. So the waiter was wrong, after two discussions and the comment, "I don't want to argue with you". So they corrected my order. I received my order, it was fine. The bill came, I was charged for the omelette. Which was more than the Two Egg Breakfast that I ordered. Upon checkout I was asked about my experience, I said it was not good. There was no response. I will sum up my complaints below. 1. Waited awhile to order. 2. I ordered a meal. "Waiter stated that he would not argue with me." 3. Ok, let's look at the menu. Let's stop and look at the menu. I tried to show you the menu. Three times. 4. Received the wrong order. 5. Other guest asked for ketchup. Was not received. 6. Refills nonexistent. 7. Two discussions about what is included on the menu. 8. Told the check out clerk that we had a problem. So to sum it up. My wife and I have visited this IHOP several time over the years. This is our 2nd visit since the reopening post fire. Contrary to the health departments rating of EXCELLENT COMPLIANCE posted by the entrance, we found the cleanliness to be lacking. The floors in the dining area had grease in the grout. We had to sort through 10 service sets to find 2 usable. A stink bug joined us and dined on the syrup jars. We observed one waiter cleaning tables, or wiping off six with one rag, not even stopping to rinse the rag once. Service was slow, taking 30min to serve breakfast. Food was ok but a bit greasy. We attempted to get the managers attention several times. She appears to see us then turn and avoid us. I don't think this IHOP will remain on our list to visit! read more

Me, my husband and our son wanted ihop some we came here. 3rd on the list, no problem. We started to see a lot of people leave, probably about 7 parties. Mind you there was nowhere to sit they had so many people waiting, after an hour almost an hour and a half I checked to see when we would be seated. We were still 3rd and the other 2 parties ahead of us had ALREADY been seated. There were clean sections, and there were waitresses in those sections so I can't say there wasn't anybody working those sections because there was. We had to go somewhere else to eat because after waiting an hour and a half with a 1 year old, I got sick and tired of this place real fast. Do not recommend this place, the last time I went here the waitress was rude so I was going to give this place another chance, but this place is dreadful. I mean absolutely pitiful. read more

It's hard, if not impossible, to figure out what reviews are legitimate, whether positive or negative, and which are not. Could they be written by a friend of the business's owner? Or by a disgruntled former employee? I'm neither. I just like IHOP in general. I like their menu. And I've eaten at one that I'd never go back to. However, this one was a solid 4-star. It's in a safe area of multiple restaurants and stores. It was clean (I didn't use the restroom, so I can't comment on that) and service was very good. We had breakfast at around 7:30 am and our server was Donna. She checked on us regularly, I never had to ask for coffee refills, and was very pleasant and polite. IHOP should be the same wherever you go. This IHOP is no different. The same menu as others but in this location the service has the southern hospitality flair. Yes, I know, WV is not in the south but the hospitality is reminiscent of it. The service was outstanding and made the meal stick out from other IHOP visits. We would definitely return. read more

Why is it that EVERY time I try to eat at an IHOP, something goes wrong?! I'm not even saying the same location screws up. Each location I go to screws up. This location started with a hostess arguing with be about putting my infant in a high chair or booster...saying those were my only options...and I can't have a booth with a high chair. Ummmm my infant can't SIT UP! So she's staying in her car seat, and can just be in her car seat on the booth next to me. She then says, but I CANT give you a booth with a high chair. A few more back and forth like this she rolls her eyes and begrudgingly gives us a booth....as she sees me place the carseat snugly in the bankette she then knows what I was trying to say. Then we were greeted by an AMAZING waitress who was very sweet and accommodating. We were very quickly served our coffee and orange juice. She was patient in waiting for our orders. We waited for nearly an hour for our food. It was cold. My eggs were nearly raw, I didn't eat them. I ordered over medium....which yes I know is considered "under cooked" but these were nasty...big clumps of raw snotty white. I like my whites cooked completely, with thick slightly runny yolk. My husband ordered over easy, and got very sick from them. Before anyone decided to cut into us for eating undercooked eggs...we eat them like this all the time at home, and never get sick....so it was the prep. They must've had a new cook in the back. One thing that was really bothering me was how it seemed as though 90% of the wait staff was literally standing around doing nothing. People were needing refills, condiments, and just generally other things. Our waitress however was great, but I don't remember her name. I think that this experience has turned me off from I hop forever now. I can get pancakes at Denny's...or support a local business. Although when you are 300miles from home, you go to the chains. There was this horrible land-beast of a waitress that insisted to the hostess that she not be sat so she could "catch up". Gee, for someone with catching up to do, you sure do waddle across the restaurant pretty slowly, empty handed without pre-bussing any tables. This is the same waitress who made an "announcement" across the dining room to other servers (not the guests- seriously, it was like she was announcing that a plane had crashed into the side of the Capitol building) to notify the kitchen when ringing in large parties.
