I've been to this IHOP many times, so my comments on the food and ambience are based on multiple visits. The service, however, is another story. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like that this location really puts effort into their appearance. There are frequently decorations throughout the restaurant in honor of holidays and special occasions, and they'll sometimes have a big screen TV on with relevant programming (including World Cup games recently).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is typical IHOP fare, and is pretty good. This location also has some omelet specials not on the officially sanctioned menu (like a philly cheesesteak omelet). The food is solid. The service needs commenting on. I have, in the past, had outstanding service at this location. There is one gentleman whose name I cannot recall who has given me some of the best restaurant service of my life. No exaggeration. But the last two visits to this location, I have had bad service. I will not name the server, but I will say that she is forgetful to the point of ridiculousness. She has forgotten to ring in food, she has forgotten to bring sides and condiments, she has forgetfully left things on my table that were supposed to be taken to other tables. One time, she was standing around doing nothing, when she looked over at me at my table and said to herself (loud enough for me to hear), "Oh shoot! I better get his drinks." Another time, after she had taken my meal order, she asked a shift manager to delete my appetizer from the ticket, and I had to remind her that, no, I had actually ordered an appetizer. She's also touchy--literally she will touch you--and I hate that. She thinks because she's waited on me a few times that we're friends. We aren't. In general, this is a well-run location and there are many good servers here. I just lucked out my last two visits and got a not-great server. If it weren't for her, I'd give this location four stars, easy. read more

Everyone should take time out of their busy day to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the IHOP on Smoketown Road in Woodbridge, Virginia. Trust me--you will not be disappointed. When you arrive, ask for a server named Nelson. I am over 60 years old, and I have never visited an IHOP where the customer service exceeded my expectations to this extent. From the moment my husband and I arrived, Nelson greeted us with a warm smile, a courteous welcome, and even shook our hands. He was attentive to our needs throughout our visit, but what impressed me most was that he treated every customer with the same level of kindness and respect. Not only did he wait tables, but he also seated guests and cleaned tables--all while maintaining a positive attitude and a genuine smile. His professionalism was contagious and made the entire dining experience enjoyable. If we could have left a larger tip, we certainly would have. Nelson is truly an asset to IHOP. He is also bilingual, which made our experience even more pleasant. With customer service skills like his, it is only a matter of time before someone offers him the opportunity of a lifetime. Bad. Bad, bad. Horrible experience. Came in, was seated immediately, and waitress attended immediately. Informed waitress we needed more time to review the menu. She didn't come back until 15 minutes after in which she finally took our order. Ordered grilled salmon and jalopeno burger with chocolate chip pancakes. We received regular pancakes (no chocolate chip), with chocolate syrup. We tried giving waitress benefit if the doubt thinking maybe she misheard us. Once we got the food, the salmon wasn't grilled. It was fried and overcooked; burnt actually. Garlic bread was also burnt. Paid $17.99 for a burnt piece of salmon which was embarrassing. Afterwards, we tried to get our waitress attention to ask for the check. That itself took about 5-7 mins due to her prepping other tables while having a personal convo with her coworker. I personally don't mind the side convos, but at least pay attention to your customers since you're in the hospitality business. Due to lack of customer service skills and lack of food quality, 1 star review. Customer service is a huge area of opportunity. The woman that answers the phone and brings curbside is unbelievably rude. She is short tempered, gives clipped responses, demands you change parking spaces even though you are in curbside parking and she hangs up on you. Unacceptable! We were at the IHOP Woodbridge location on Smoketown at around 6:30 AM . There were just 2 to 4 customers there. We waited a long time till the server came to take our order . We ordered our meal which took even longer, only to find out it was wrong. My husband only had blueberry pancakes, and I had the regular breakfast plate with two Pancakes. My plate came much later than his food plus they forgot my pancakes and only came out when we were both finished with our breakfast. He had his headphones on, and prioritized other customers. I am not sure if it was about racism, but my family and I did not feel welcomed. It was hard to get refills or anything. Something has changed, I believe maybe new ownership. I don't like the changes. Owners walking around (maybe owners) senior Wednesday used to give out cookies to take home. Not anymore. Now they give them to you at the table. (Very hard) me and my husband ordered food to go and ask for a free cookie for my son and she had to ask the new owner if I could take one home and the owner told her she couldn't do that. My husband ordered a Classic Eggs Benedict, the eggs were poached, but the egg yolk was very hard! I ordered an omelet, where you pick your own ingredients. All the ingredients were on top of the omelet and not within. Plus at least 2 cups of cheese was dumped on top and not even melted! Husband & I went on a waffle binge and let me tell you. Best ihop in the area! Clean ambiance, nice staff -- they actually smile and get your orders right unlike the ones from Dumfries. Shakes taste good compared to the one in Stafford. The staff here also gave us napkins. The food was good! Bacon in dumfries tasted like oil. This ihop branch I'm Woodbridge's bacon actually taste like maple bacon! Eggs were how I ordered them, server was not snarky (unlike the one in Dumfries). I have been to this location once before and had a good experience but this time it was far from it. It was not busy so we were able to be sat right away.. the hostess was trying to find a place to seat us but the server who she was trying to sit us with was complaining right in front of us that he kept getting stuck with too many tables because all the other servers had left. He said that he took a table of seven already for another server and just kept continuing to tell the hostess that he did not need to take up another table. I only go to IHOP went I have late night craving and noting open. The food here is consistent not bad good enough to eat 3.5/5. Never eaten inside it seem to be fill drunk peoples after the club or teen latenight. So went I go look a mess and don't want to be seen. Pick up and go. The service is meh like 3/5 . They all probably tired and bored and ready to be out of there, I don't blame them but just always make sure to check your bad before you leave they tend to forget the basic stuff such as syrup or your special request on the side. Been here many times before the recent renovations, and it wasn't good before but NOW this place is up to par. The staff were very friendly and our breakfast tasted good and came out in a timely fashion. One thing I want to highlight is that they sanitize the kid high chairs and wrap them with plastic foil so you know it hasn't been used after it was sanitized. VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS! As I write this review, we have been here since 10:30 pm and it is now 1:20 am..... no food, bad service and just down right unacceptable. It took an hour just to get drinks, and by drinks I mean water, lemonades and tea.....keep in mind we are only here since it was graduation night and they were one of the few if not only places open. The first waitress that came over said that she tried to get someone to help us and no one would. After voicing my concerns, the hostess who sat us came and took our drink order... as we sat and waited we asked for the manager who immediately asked if we wanted to just cancel the order. Umm no, we would like the food we ordered. So we waited again...... I asked for the manager and she came out and just said yes, you asked for me? No apology, no explanation, nothing..... I counted at least 6 of at least 8 people per table minimum who came in after us, ate and left. Low and behold, ironically they lost our order.... how do you lose an order????? Better yet how do you lose an order for 13 people.....So at this point, I mean what's the point? So now they tell us it will be 10 minutes. That was at 1:18 as I type this there is still no food on the table. It's now 1:32...still no food.....still no update and the restaurant continues to clear out and we still have no food. I understand things happen, crowds come but how does this happen? How is it possible that every table that came in after you came, saw, conquered and we still have nothing? Food comes, order is wrong and she says just eat this until I get the right thing.... everything and anything you think could and would go wrong, did. I didn't have a good cup of coffee yesterday morning August 21st. 2021, but lord knows I made up for it yesterday evening. Yesterday morning after leaving our hotel, I was going to get Starbucks dark roast black coffee because I carry my creamer with me. But the grandchildren ages 4 and 7 wanted IHOP 's blueberry pancakes. So I yelped and did some other reviews and we ended up at this one at 13718 Smoketown Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22192. The establishment was full, but they had tables outside and we immediately ushered to them and told that our server would be out to us. The majority of patrons in this establishment were of Latin descent, especially the majority of workers. A speckle of Caucasian and Black people were being served inside. After 15 minutes I approached them and informed them we had not been approached by a server and the woman who was Hispanic was short with me snapping saying "Someone will serve you!" I told the kids we were leaving, but they began to tear up and asked why couldn't we wait. My 4 year old grand daughter expressed her desire for the blueberry pancakes and my 7 years old grand son said he didn't mind waiting. There were 2 older Hispanic women near us and one looked sorrowfully towards me as if she knew my frustration. I gave in and after 15 more minutes I watched as the server who had been bringing coffee and making small talk with the other patrons excorted another couple of Hispanic women and took their orders. I was livid. We go inside and I see a Black woman and as I shared what was happening she finished my statement, "and serviced them before serving you and your children. She understood and when I knew it, I also knew I was not going to spend another second in this place. Prejudice pieces of shit! As we were leaving, the woman server was taking another order of a Hispanic family who had just arrived sitting across from us. She deliberately walked passed us. I was fuming as I gathered our things to leave. We had driven out of the parking lot and my 7 year old grand son said, "Grandma, could you stop please, my sister doesn't have on her seat belt?" I came to my senses and pulled over to breathe. I asked the kids to give me a minute and my daughter called. She immediately asked what was wrong and I burst out crying . I explained what happened and I told her this is the situation where I am not going to make a scene and demand the service because those kinds of mentalities are disgusting. There's no telling what would be put into my food. The black woman working there needed a job so she was not about to advocate for us because she already knew what was going down. But this is the shit we, as on Black people have to contend with daily. Proxy racism is just as hurtful. My grandchildren were just as worthy of their blueberry pancakes as much as those Hispanic children. But thank God I have coffee at home and my grandchildren will have their Blueberry pancakes and maple syrup today. But that experience sincerely hurt me. I know this is not the behavior of all Hispanic people, but I have advocated for the ones working there, I've invested in people like them to stay here and it's just as hurtful as it is when some of my own Black people treat me like shit because I am really not their enemy, but you wouldn't know it by their treatment. There's apparently poor management at this location. Will never return to that blatant prejudice treatment. As far as IHOPs go, this has got to be the best location I have ever been to. Service is an A+!! Today is a packed Saturday brunch but my service is seamless and my food is good. Location is an A+! The restrooms are clean and my seating area is clean. The manager has been walking around helping the busy servers and bussers clean, serve, refill, greet. I might have been lucky with Vanessa.
