I haven't been to this particular restaurant in Winchester before, but did try one that was in Purcellville that ended up closing many years back. It seems a bit dated inside with a cheap cheesecake factory kinda vibe. The service was good, but nothing spectacular. I had the jambalaya pasta, which was in more of what I would consider a vodka sauce than an actual spicy sauce. It was just OK, wouldn't get it again. The salad with the house dressing could've used a little more dressing, also very mid. My wife had the prime rib sandwich with the sweet potato fries and once again nothing special. I might go back because they do have chicken tenders that look beer batter fried and I love those. Other than that, there's plenty of other places to eat in Winchester. read more

Went with my work group of about 12 and had a great time! Our server was super sweet and fun and did a great job! Not the fastest but it didn't bother us. I tip according to the service - as I said the server was nice but nothing special - I made no unusual request or demands on her and paid what I thought was fair. I have been there twice, both times with the same waiter. He was not aware of any sauces for the fish. Second time I ordered prime rib med rare and it was med well to well. Felt bad sending it back. Got a hamburger instead. The prime rib should have never been served. The waiter should have realized this... I would have been OK if I was told they are out of it. Waiter spent an inordinate amount of time chatting with tables while I waited for his attention to order another drink. My girlfriend's food was good, however. We have been loyal customers of IJ's for nearly 20 yrs. We love the ambiance of this restaurant. The owners, Donna and Charlie Zarou, have always treated us like family. They always made a point to speak to us and catch up. They were consistent in checking on customers and the quality of the food. We recently dined with them. The restaurant was slow. Maybe 25 patrons at the time. We ordered our food. A burger and a prime rib. It took about 25 mins for our order to come out. Everything was cold. Prime rib was grisly, fries were awful (they're usually awesome). Our waiter was nowhere to be found. (He was covering the entire restaurant. ). After spending a dreadful 90 minutes in the restaurant, we finally received our bill. Snatched up the horrible prime rib to give to our dogs and made a quick get away. Food was we order a pouch egg dish. Eggs were cold. To my surprise one of my eggs had no yolk. Told our waitress/ manager she basically told oh well! Did even offer to get me a new one. Where I. My husband and I went to IJ Cann's in Winchester for date night, and unfortunately, it was disappointing. Our waiter was very kind and didn't charge us for the appetizer, which we appreciated. However, the margarita wasn't made correctly, and the bartender had to come out to speak with me about it. The green beans were rubbery, the potatoes tasted instant, and the crab meat was very bland. Our appetizer took 45 minutes, and our entrées came out just five minutes later. At $30 per dish, we expected much better quality. We stopped by for brunch/lunch after leaving our pup at Valley Vet (see separate review). The hostess seated us promptly and the waitress was kind, informative and very attentive. I started with a pickle infused Bloody Mary, which was thick, had a little heat and a nice tang. I had steak and eggs. 10oz rib eye, over medium eggs and an English muffin. Eggs were over cooked, almost no yolk when cut, the steak was a little dry and overcooked as well, but had a nice char flavor, not much to say about the boiled then fried potatoes. She had two appetizers - A creamy shrimp dip and Ahi tuna sashimi. In my opinion the shrimp dip smelled and tasted very fishy and not fresh. She enjoyed hers with hot sauce spread over the bread. The Ahi looked great, cooked perfectly...if it were not for the tasty wasabi base at the bottom there would be zero flavor. Excellent Experience! All staff were very friendly. The appetizers were excellent - shrimp and spinach dip with fantastic garlic toasts. The best part was the stuffed flounder and crabmeat!. Fresh fish and veggies cooked al dente the way I like it. The other 3 people with me had great meals and drinks too! Great Restaurant and food! I like absolute sea breezes and this restaurant actually had grapefruit juice which is combined with cranberry! I Cannot find grapefruit in several restaurants' in Northern VA. Our cocktail, an Old Fashioned, was well prepared and we enjoyed it. The appetizer, fried calamari, was awfully chewy-disappointing at the $15 price point. The entrees were fair. We ordered apple pie ala mode to share. I would not recommend it because the pie crust texture was rubbery -I suspect the slice was microwaved to warm it. The filling was bland. We had our post wedding rehearsal lunch here with family and friends. Setting it up was so easy. The person we were talking to on the phone (Chasity) was quick to respond and made great recommendations and was very nice and accommodating. The day of the lunch, everything went smoothly and our guests had plenty to eat (we did an appetizer buffet, and it was A LOT of food). Our family members loved the food items served. It was perfectly seasoned! The staff we had for the day were really nice and engaged with our guests. My friend who couldn't eat any meats for easter was made a cheese pizza just so she could have something to eat and that was incredibly thoughtful of them. And they even packed the leftovers in to-go boxes for our family and friends to take home. I highly recommend this place for a rehearsal dinner/lunch venue! IJ Canns provides quality service along with quality food. The restaurant is beautiful and located in a quaint and quiet plaza. They serve prime rib roasted daily, which is great as an entree, or shaved for a French Dip sandwich. Their calamari is battered to order.. not frozen, pre battered junk. It is a great way to start a meal. They offer a happy hour menu for bar and outdoor dining guests, which includes many of their appetizers and craft beers and drinks. Sunday brunch is served 11-3 with old favorites and some spins on classics.. such as a crab cake eggs benedict. Don't forget to ask about their daily food and drink specials if your server hasn't already mentioned them. Prime Rib We ordered a medium rare prime rib. It came to the table with a brown color (not typical of prime rib) , similar to a grilled steak. The texture was gummy/chewy ; it was not enjoyable. The owner said ,"it is the cut of meat of the day." He didn't offer to rectify the situation at all- just an apology . They should not offer prime rib on the menu. If you are someone that enjoys a nice prime rib ... think twice and get chicken! read more

Out for a birthday dinner first time visiting this establishment . Food was great service was great , the restaurant was very clean and overall great experience. Reagan our waitress was very attentive and so pleasant enhanced the experience. I had calamari appetizer which was delicious and a generous proportion. Was there this evening for a family birthday celebration. Seven of us which includes children. Meal was very good. The place had a special event happening on the other side. Which was fine until that flowed over to the restaurant dining room. The three people started arguing, at times loud, at times improper language. A family argument that lasted 20 minutes or so. Nobody from the restaurant asked them to take this argument outside. Interrupt our whole evening and at time became very inappropriate for the little ears to hear. Ruined a good evening. read more

Ok experience. Friendly staff. Large menu selection from seafood to meats. Lots of veggie options too. I had the NY Strip. It was ok. The cut wasn't great with some fatty chunks. It came sitting on top of a sauce that reminded me of A1. I didn't prefer that. If I returned, I'd probably try the ribs instead. Or maybe the Jambalaya. This place has a nice look but the food is straight nasty. The last time I "ate" here I ordered ribs and they just didn't look or smell right. Ok, this is coming from someone who isn't afraid to hit the McDonald's drive thru when I'm in a rush, I'm telling you these ribs were not safe to eat. I don't think they were cooked all the way as the meat didn't want to come off the bone.....of course I received an attitude when I sent them back. Only time in my life I've ever turned down a plate of ribs. Today my mom goes here for lunch to get a salmon blt. The is no "b" as in bacon, the salmon is half raw, and there's a long hair wrapped around the sandwich. She politely asks for it to be remade (without hair) and cooked thoroughly: they bring her the same piece of salmon, still not cooked, with pieces of undercooked bacon slapped on top this time! What is it with this place and the undercooked pork?! No one wants limp raw bacon! The manager had the nerve to charge her for the side that came with the meal and my mom left hungry. I don't know what's worse about this place, the food or the management. McDonalds is about a mile down the road and you'd probably have a better meal there.... read more

In town to see a show. Stopped here in Saturday evening early. Restaurant didn't appear to be crowded. I was here by myself. As I walked in, a couple had just searched for the hostess as she was not at the front. She took them to be seated. She said she would be with me. I said "ok, no problem." When she returned she asked if I was there to pick up take out. I have dressy clothes on so it must have been wishful thinking on her part. I said, "no I'm here for a table for 1 please." She said, "well, you're going have to wait cause I don't have a table for 1 right now." I said "that's ok, I'll just go somewhere else." She said, "well that's your choice."I said , "yes it is." She then yelled out, "what is wrong with people?" She's an elderly lady with glasses. Hopefully she owns the place. Maybe I was too direct in response to her? I was pretty disappointed. I said, "well can I have something else then." And she said, "sure but he's gonna make you pay for that, too." I said, "so I have to eat something I didn't ask for and something I'm not happy with?!?" When I asked to speak to the manager. When he came to the table you could tell he was a ready to fight, I let him know that I ordered scrambled eggs and that's not what I got. But to my surprise he begins to yell, point his finger and tell me that what's on my plate is scrambled eggs. I tell him that no it's an omelette and tell him my cheese isn't even melted. So he begins to go back and forth with me about the definition of scrambled eggs. So I said you're the manager? He says, "no, I'm the owner!" He says are you gonna tell me that's not scrambled eggs and I said yes. His justification was because the eggs had been scrambled to make what was on my plate that was fine. And tells me that he's been doing this for 50 years and that's scrambled eggs on my plate. At that point I say, "are you really arguing with me about scrambled eggs?! The bottom line is this is not what I ordered and I'm not happy with what I was served." He then says fine I'll remake them for you and goes to snatch my plate. Now mind you, I said we had been waiting for over 30min for our food. So I'm holding on to the plate and say, "can I at least keep the rest of my food and you just bring me new eggs?!" He said fine and then stands there huffy and annoyed the whole time while I'm putting it on a plate on the table. After he walks away from the table, we were all truly taken aback! We couldn't even believe what just happened! I could not believe I was argued with and treated so rude and disrespectful about some scrambled eggs by an owner, none the less. The lady behind us heard it all and was just as shocked as we were for how he acted. At that point me and my friends all just kinda sat there like what just happened. We were all just bothered, frustrated and had completely lost our appetites, and let's be honest, no one ever wants to eat something from a kitchen after you've had words about your food, cliché or not! when the server came by I let her know we were done. She said well he's taking care of yours, (?!?) but I need to get their checks. I said no we're completely done. We're not eating here! We got our stuff and as we were getting up, a plate of more correctly scrambled eggs comes to the table. I told the young lady, who had been the nice hostess who seated us, thanks but no thanks! So if you've been there you know you have to walk past the kitchen service area. And he and what appeared to be most of the waitstaff were all standing there. So as we were leaving, I let him know we were done and we were leaving. I told him the way he acted and treated me was wrong. He says, "I remade the food for you and now you're leaving?! Wish I had taken a picture of that long hair that was wrapped up in the salmon blt sandwhich that I just ordered for lunch plus there was no bacon and the salmon was very rare. I was nice and sent it back to be remade and asked them to also cook the salmon more and add the bacon. Well the 2nd time around had the same pieces of salmon (98% sure), not cooked anymore and the bacon was barely cooked and dripping grease (minus the hair). Even after sending it back a second time they wanted to charge me for the side and my iced tea. What has happened to restaurants? They can't blame Covid anymore! There are good workers out there but you have to pay them decent and treat them well, just look at how many polite hard working employees Chick-Fil-A has. Yummmm. Fresh. You guys...totally fresh food. Not frozen. Not nuked. Frikkin plucked from the ocean, cooked up and served to you.. The shrimp in my pasta dish was so plump and done perfectly. The crab cakes were filled with crab, rather than breaded stuffing, seasoned well and completely filling. We were able to enjoy outside dining, which last night was perfect for. The entire atmosphere around the restaurant is great. Gardens of flowers, brick walls and enclosures, soft white lights. Just...perfect. The tequila was smooth and delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly and plentiful and covered (not drenched) in a light but rich creamy lemon sauce. The spinach was fresh, but not raw, overdone or wilting. And our waitress...Cassie...a total gem. She put up with our sarcasm and off the wall sense of humor. She was attentive but not intrusive. Over 7 years we've eaten here many times. But not in the past 24 months. We brought our inlaws to a nice dinner out and we made a reservation for 6:15pm. We were told it was a reservation. We all arrived at 6:05pm. We were more than willing to wait for our table at 6:15. And then we were told "oh we don't reserve tables we just keep a list". Well that is NOT the same thing as making (or taking) a reservation. This is an upscale restaurant for the Winchester dining scene and they ought to know the difference between making a reservation of a table that will be held for a party versus creating a "waiting list". I think this place appeals to those who think that if you pay more for food, it tastes better. Specifically, the Calamari was heavily breaded and over-fried. Did that bite have any squid in it? I honestly don't know... how's the dipping sauce? Generic. The Seafood Medley plate (I ordered it before tasting the Calamari) was simple and flavorless... I take it back: there was one piece of shrimp in the plate that was cooked properly. Otherwise, the dish was quite a disappointment. If it were a $12 dish, it would be minimally acceptable. I gave 4 stars because the menu sounds wonderful and there seems to be other wonderful choices to make as this was only my first visit. We started with the crab dip. The dip came with delicious toasted baguettes but only five of them for the amount of dip that came with it. We asked for more bread but the service was slow and took forever to get more bread. Then we were charged an extra dollar without being told it would be extra. The dip was average. We ordered the shrimp and grits and Hazenut crusted chicken. The shrimp and grits were really good and the Hazelnut chicken was ok. Bathroom was really nice but dirty. The floor was sticky like a bar room. We went on a raining Saturday. The place was pretty dead. The reviews online were all over the board. We sat in the large dinning area. The waitress was SUPER friendly. Just a delight to chat with. Decor is nice. Server was friendly. Went on a weeknight- not busy but the dinner order took a while to arrive. Appetizer was calamari, which was on the small-ish side, but nicely done and tasty. I ordered a beer, which was expensive, took a while to arrive, (it came after the appetizer, which itself took a while,) and I got a large belled water glass with about a finger and a half of beer in it, less than 4 ounces. The Entree portion size was small; I had ordered stuffed flounder which was mushy, as if it had been boiled, and was about the size of a medium apple, with a few vegetables scattered around the plate. As my wife and I were out to celebrate our anniversary, I refrained from making my displeasure known. As we finished our dinners, the server brought our check over without asking whether we wanted any dessert or anything else. At that point I wanted *dinner* and a *beer*, but was not willing to any more time or money, so I paid the 86 dollar tab which included - Calamari, one 3-4 ounce glass of wine, less than 4 ounces of beer, stuffed flounder, and a salmon dinner salad. I did tip the server $14 as this was mostly not her fault, but I will never, ever, go back to that place and I would recommend it only to people I did not like. I have eaten at some very nice restaurants all over the United States, and at some real ripoffs, and I rarely bother to leave negative reviews, but this place was so exceptionally bad that I made an exception. read more
