I'm in love with the new couch, chair and bookshelf that I bought from here today. Delivery to the city was fairly cheap (and I don't have to worry about throwing my back out), and the whole process of retrieving, purchasing and setting up delivery was 5 stars all the way. Why three stars? This store is so ADA unfriendly. While there are some proper accommodations in the store, there's only one real way through the store. If you can't figure out to follow the "arrows" you're pretty much SOL. If a person has a severe learning disability, or even is visually impaired, be prepared to walk around in a confused state if you're by yourself. The whole lay out is just a pain in the ass. read more

Identical to Ikea in London or anywhere else, so I felt right at home. Right down to the crowds, weird showhome-then-shopping layout, awkward car loading arrangement, and unhelpful staff. BUT also down to the super cheap furntiure and decent kitchen stuff, perfect for someone trying to fill an apartment with stuff in a single day. They'd run out of clothes hangers which upset me. There were no directions to where my chosen sofa would be in the self-serve section, and it didn't show up on their system, so I had to rely on one elusive member of staff's encyclopaedic knowledge of the shelving arrangements, which was annoying and led to mild panic (three times is the maximum i can hear the phrase 'someone over there will know'). The home delivery service was very easy to set up though, and even at $90 I saved money over buying a sofa elsewhere. read more

If you've never gone to Ikea and you're planning a trip, I recommend reserving 1-2 hours for your trip. (I mean, they have a cafe in here for a reason.) The store is set up where you have to walk through the entire store to get to each department. I would someday like to create a map on how to cheat the system by not following the arrows and making it through the store in less than an hour. Things you will also need- -A cell phone to take pictures of the item # and location. Sure, they give you pencils and paper but who remembers how to write? You may also want to play Candy Crush while you wait in line at checkout for approximately 20 minutes. -Lots of deodorant. It's really warm in here and also crowded. You don't want to smell, do you? -A companion and/or headphones. Walking through this store for an hour by yourself gets boring. Plan accordingly. -Measurements. If you're trying to fit anything into a certain space, make sure to measure the space. You don't want to have to come back, do you? We were on the hunt for a desk, which sadly isn't the first department. After about 30 minutes of following the arrows, we found the desks. They had a lot of choices and all for decent prices. We picked up a $2 salad spinner and the desk and were out for less than $80. The desk is beautiful and surprisingly very sturdy. It took my husband and I about two hours to put it together. The worst part about the assembly is the horrible, god-awful directions that they give you. I really wish I would have kept them, so I could show pictures of how bad they are. Nonetheless, between his brain and my brain, we were both able to decipher it enough to be put together properly. Another pro tip that I didn't realize, if the item comes in multiple colors, there will be different locations for each color. I took a picture of the white desk when we really wanted the brown one. We ended up having to go find an employee to have him look up the location of the correct one. read more

The store is great until you have to return something. The people at the Returns and Exchanges desks are some of the rudest people I have ever interacted with. They clearly learn nothing about providing even the most basics of customer courtesy in their training. We have had to return multiple items on multiple dates due to a remodel we are working on and each time it gets worse. We try and approach with a fresh mind every time but are constantly met with argumentative, judgemental and impatient employees. If you struggle for even a moment to find the right receipt they are quick to bitingly spit out that they can't look up your purchase with your family card or your credit card. While that information is good to have, it is the attitude and spite with which it is given that I take issue with. Telling people not to shop at Ikea is a pointless endeavor...if you are an Ikea person, you will shop at Ikea. But I would offer that you should double check that you need everything you are purchasing because the return process contaminates the experience of the whole store. Or better yet...try the Schaumburg location. read more

I'm torn about which location I prefer. This one does seem easier(or smaller) in a sense. Then again, I feel like there are wayyyyy too many twists and turns. I use to be a big fan of going to IKEA with hours to spare and perusing at my leisure. These days, I'm more of an In-N-Out kinda girl. IKEA makes the latter much more difficult. Larger items need to be picked up on the lower level which kinda ruins things sometimes because it's only then that you find out they are out of the item. Had you known upstairs, you could have devised a backup plan. The employees are happy to lookup items at the Schaumburg location, and they can even let you know where to find it so you don't have to go upstairs first. The only thing that stands between you and your dream furniture is a few hundred dollars and several dozen steps. Putting the furniture together starts off kinda fun, like a puzzle. After a few hours and a couple glasses of wine, I'm ready for the pain to be over. I was assembling my second to last (of EIGHT) drawer dresser when I underestimated my brute strength and put a hole right through the front of the drawer-front. In my defense, I'm not that strong and this furniture is pretty crappy. I called the IKEA help line and she instructed me to go back to the location of purchase for an exchange of the part. I went to the Returns & Exchanges department, took a number and waited a good 20 minutes. The whole process to exchange, bring the item out, unbox it, find my part took close to an hour. Kind of a pain in the neck but there was no hassle involved. I'm still clinging onto my 20's and IKEA. read more

This Ikea has the standard layout, unlike the Schaumburg one. Showroom on top and pallets and housewares on bottom. Hardly anyone is here on a weekday. Don't drive on 355 here, or you have to pay the $1 toll which is lame. If you're going back on 55 towards Chicago, just stay on Boughton, go over the highway (it becomes 87th st) and past a couple lights to Lemont and hang a right, and you'll get right to the Stevenson. Reverse the directions to get to Ikea toll-free. read more

IKEA is a great place to shop for furniture, and this location is about everything I would expect from shopping there. The long, twisty paths are odd but also avoid confusion as to where things are. Simply follow the path and at some point you will find it. The food, as many have said for IKEA locations in general, is surprisingly good. Sure, it's essentially a ploy to get you to spend more time there, but those meatballs are unrivaled. The two things that I didn't find exciting about the store were its location and its lines. The store is located off of a major road, which is almost frightening to turn out of and get into the IKEA complex. I also found the lines to be oddly long. The value of the furniture is yet another positive for me. The desk I bought a few years ago has held up perfectly. read more

This ikea has a very similar layout to the one in Michigan so I'm very familiar with its crazy labyrinth. It's as ikea-y as one can expect and I like going to this location more than the Schaumburg one because of its ever so slight convenience to my work and apartment. This is the first time I've ever been to an Ikea. I've always heard they were over priced, the products were cheap (low quality), the furniture was a pain to assemble. This rumors always had me saying "I'm not going to bother, it's not worth the trouble". I receive the catalog in the mail and figured "what the heck, ill check it out". I was plesantly surprised. This place is huge. When you first go in you are directed up an escalator to the second floor which consists of all there products layed in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, office senarios. These unique showcases (just like in the catalog) give you a lot of creative ideas on how these products can be used by themselves or in combination to build even more possibilties. You walk from one display to the next along a layed out whic ends at an escalator by a rather large cafeteria area (ill check out the food on another visit and update then). You now move back to the first floor where all the items you saw displayed upstairs are stock piled in mass. One thing that surprised me were the prices. There are tons of pretty good quality at really cheap prices. Not everything in this place is of the highest quality or the cheapest price, but if your are selective of what you buy. You can come out with some pretty good deals. I have two suggestion for those who haven't been here before. #1 bring a notebook or camera phone (take picture of tags) so you keep track of item numbers or location numbers (for locating furniture at stock floor). #2 After your first visit, find the items you want in the catalog and mark them to make them easy to find. On my visit today (checking out the whole place) I spent almost 5 hours here. I didn't even realize it until I was leaving. To sum this place up. There's lots of nice things, lots of good prices, you will most like spend more than you want (because of all the great deals), you can spend a whole day here and not realize it. I like this place and I got some good ideas for future projects. I'll be coming back soon. read more

The store itself has everything you could want and more; cute furniture, household decorations, and useful tools and appliances. It's a fun way to spend a few hours. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for and a lot of what you buy will deteriorate quickly. It is still fun to imagine your adorable living space while you walk through and some things will last forever; it's kind of hit and miss. I've had many a furniture and home goods deteriorate before my eyes but I've also had amazing dishes last me for years and years without chipping. Anyway, on to the gross: Today we were in the store and we bought two $1 frozen yogurts before leaving. The guy at the counter makes 1 good and 1 super sloppy so my mom asked if she could have a more neat one. He took his FINGER, scraped off the top of the ice cream cone in to the trash, and then remade it using the same cone. What. the. hell. So I guess third time is a charm and after a little sternness in the voice he decided to just give us a brand new ice cream. Blech. read more

This IKEA is definitely growing on me. I am absolutely positive it used to have less of a selection than the Schaumburg store when it opened. I remember seeing a bathroom cabinet set at the Schaumburg location that just was not at the Bolingbrook location. So, this IKEA was not my go-to for all things cheap and cute. However, my mom and I stopped in yesterday just to browse and look around and they've definitely upped the ante. The layout of the store is weird: instead of three floors like the other location, there's just two really long floors. As a few others have mentioned, it takes forever to get through the top floor. Warning: if you have to go to the bathroom, you'll have to hold it quite awhile until you finish your browsing and make it all the way over to the other side of the floor. A lot of the merchandise is crammed in because this location has less square footage than the Schaumburg location (I asked one of the employees) so it feels a bit cramped. OK by me! We decided to eat at the restaurant - get the Swedish meatballs! They were delicious and cheap. Note: all coffee is free if you arrive to the store before 10 a.m. opening time AND you can have unlimited free refills once you get the cup. Also note: breakfast before 10 a.m. only costs $1.97 and you get eggs, potatoes and bacon. Yum! I don't know why this surprised me, but there were IKEA staff members everywhere. Usually at the Schaumburg location there's about two people working in the entire store and I've always found it difficult to find someone. But yesterday there were tons of people out and about offering assistance to all of the customers. Big plus in my book. I have completely changed my mind about this IKEA. Previously, I probably would have only given it a three-star review but this is definitely the better of the two locations now. I probably won't ever go to the Schaumburg location again because this IKEA sells all of the same things, the staff is friendlier and it's always less crowded. Because the IKEA Schaumburg is in Woodfield (well, right next to it) there's always TONS of mall shoppers crammed in there. The Bolingbrook location is always nicely packed but not in a "I want to rip my hair out in frustration" kind of way. Way to go, IKEA Bolingbrook. read more

IKEEEAAA!! As soon as I walk into this IKEA, the aroma starts. I've never eaten at the restaurant before, but it always has this super amazing smell coming from that general direction which is always my favorite part of walking into IKEA. I mean, what to say? Cheap furniture that lasts and is super stylish and convenient. I've furnished many rooms of my apartment with IKEA furniture and I have never been disappointed. I have two of the larger dressers that I have moved before and they held up like champions. I will say, if you're going to buy furniture from IKEA, you need to make sure you have someone to put it together the correct way or hire them to deliver it and put it together as well. Otherwise, I can see why people would hate their furniture since it does take the extra touch to make sure it stays together. I've also bought the bedding from IKEA which I found to be pleasantly surprising at how cheap and nice the options were. They have multiple patterns to choose from for sheets, duvets, and pillows. I did end up buying a comforter and duvet cover to go over it. All for about $30 and it's a nice comforter. Second love of IKEA: they're environmentally friendly. Who doesn't love a store who thinks about the environment? :) Grade A - love IKEA. Especially for the poor college students with their first apartment. Or, new parents who need furnature for a little one. read more

Ugh. I DESPISE this place, but yet found myself here on a Sunday afternoon looking for a tall lamp for the living room, another tall lamp for the bedroom, or two small lamps for the nightstands. All three would have been nice. I hate the layout. People stop in the middle of the damn walkways (paths?) and you're pretty much dodging people left and right just trying to get to your destination. Kids are running amuck, lying on the furniture, jumping on beds, etc... and of course, the parents do nothing to stop them. We finally get to lighting, which I forgot was on the lower level, so I wasted a good 30 minutes of my life in the second level of purgatory upstairs. All of the tall lamps had the cord visibly running up the pole, which was gaudy. Why the hell wouldn't the cord be placed INSIDE the pole, as it should be? Needless to say, we didn't find one we liked for either of the two rooms needing them. So, on to the lamps for the nightstands. We finally settled on a nice, modern set, bought the bulbs, and made our way to checkout. After waiting in line for at least 15 minutes, we were finally free, and made our way to the car. At home, we were very disappointed to find out the stands would not work with the shades we bought. The bulbs would not fit, either. What's funny is they're the exact same bulbs and stand used for the display (we checked, twice), the only difference was we bought the black stand, and not the silver-y whatever color it was. So now, our deconstructed lamps are sitting in a pile on the living room until we feel like going back to that monstrosity of a store to exchange or return them. Ikea is a great idea for those furnishing their first place on a budget, though watch out because not everything is a great deal there. We got a small kitchen table with two matching chairs, and the bottom rung on one of the chairs stays loose, no matter how many times you tighten it. It's mainly for show, as we eat in front of the tv anyway, but it's still annoying. After we figure out the lamp issue, I honestly don't think I'll go back. Everytime I leave this store, I'm so angry, I want to kick a dog in the arse for no reason (and I'm NOT a violent person). read more

IKEA: enormous, slightly overwhelming, a little chaotic, and yet nicely organized and fun to shop at. I have a soft spot for IKEA since as a kid, I spent a decent amount of time in the Smaland at the Plymouth Meeting IKEA. Pace yourself. Try out those chairs and sofas. Have a cup of coffee or some meatballs at the restaurant and watch the interstate traffic go by. (This one is conveniently close to 355.) When you're ready, go downstairs and pick out the many heavy boxes you will need to put your furniture together. Have your spouse pick up a couple cinnamon rolls from the snack bar ($1 each or 6 for $4) and nom on it, then use your sugar high to attempt to load four long, heavy boxes into your compact car. Realize that even with the back seats down you can only take one item of furniture home. Swear a few times, then go back inside to return the bookcase. (There's a reason the returns desk is right inside from the loading area.) I dig IKEA. I really do. They're efficient, cheerful and the furniture, if put together properly, can be pretty durable. (You generally get the quality you pay for.) read more

Oh Ikea. In terms of location, if you live in the city, you know you have a bit of a drive to go to either location, but I much prefer Boilingbrook Ikea over Schaumburg Ikea any day. Schaumburg Ikea was always chaotic and there are always tons and tons of people to where you can't even really look at anything for more than 5 seconds without people in their strollers trying to run you over going in every which direction. Just the sheer amount of bodies in that Ikea really triggers my anxiety and impatience like no other. Boilingbrook Ikea feels MUCH calmer. It's only 2 levels (Hallelujah!), and people seem to follow the maze much better here. Though I do have to say it is slightly smaller so their inventory isn't as large. But, I've always found what I was looking for. They have decent, well structured furniture at great prices, which, if you find yourself moving every few years like I do, is a great deal. Plus their general household items are super cheap and do last quite a while. Helpful Tip: Unless you want subpar, bland "Swedish" food, I'd recommend you not go on an empty stomach. Their cinnamon buns are pretty good though. read more

Ikea, great for organizing products-not so great for shoppers with ADD. And I should know, I'm a professional organizer who specializes in working with clients with ADD. The trick is to be prepared beforehand and know what you want by visiting the website and/or browsing an actual catalog. My recent visit was with a client for an office organization system (the Effectiv line) that doubles as a room divider. We arrived armed with a print out of the desired item and were aware of the options available. We had a store associate print out a list of components necessary to complete the unit and took the list downstairs to the warehouse to 'pull' our selections. Fortunately, we encountered a helpful stock guy who loaded the twenty-two pieces and wheeled them to the check- out for us. Delivery to the 60601 zipcode was only $59 and installation/assembly was $45 + 15% of the total cost of the unit ($1800), not bad when compared to what my usual closet installation person charges for his time. And the company doing the assembly (Creative Solutions) is very experienced at assembling Ikea furniture, so its definitely worth the cost to avoid the hassle of connecting the dots. The food here is fair, I had a grilled salmon special that was quite dry but the accompanying salad was a variety of greens and very fresh. Oh and I couldn't leave without a low fat frozen yogurt for $1, which was delicious. And yes, if you're easily distracted you'll find getting around Ikea time consuming. But if you simply follow the arrows on the floor to your desired destination, you'll get where you want to go by following the maps clearly displayed around every bend. read more

I've been through this place at least a half-dozen times, but no matter what, the layout still confuses me. So, that said, give yourself ample time to walk through. It is akin to being Dorothy trying to get to see the wizard. Except without the yellow brick road, and only confusing signs and twists, turns, and secret passageway shortcuts. This is where I come to drool over my dream kitchen. My home has an impossibly small galley style kitchen, and I would love nothing more than for the IKEA fairy to come over and remake my kitchen. They have such cute set up displays that would surely fit my kitchen, just not my budget right now. (All told though, it's really not that pain-inducingly expensive.) I love the bottom floor of this place the most. They have all the kitchen doo-dads known to man; I can find everything I never knew I needed! I will admit that they have incredible deals on the basics, such as serving bowls, tablewear, and cutlery. Not to mention that some of the stuff is incredibly cute. On my last trip here, I tried the new cafeteria. For a total of $5 and change, I got a dozen tasty Swedish meatballs, smashed potatoes, and a side of lingonberries. You can't beat that. Also, be sure to try the lingonberry soda; it is absolutely amazing and refreshing. The only thing I can say that is disappointing at times are the checkout lines on the weekends. Last time I was here, I only had a few things to purchase. The lines were incredibly long, and moving very slowly. The self-service lanes were there, but not open. After about fifteen minutes of not moving, I just gave up, and left without the few things I had wanted. read more

We all want marginally produced glassware and body pillows for a nickel. That's why we occasionally drive out to these blue and yellow suburban monstrosities. And I supposed after returning home with a good looking dresser, 5 wall shelves, 2 candles, 4 dish towels, a set of barely functional silverware, a door mat and some wood stain- all for $250.00 I shouldn't complain. But this is Yelp and you better believe I will. This sinister corporation must employ the same "flow engineers" as the Vegas casinos- anyone who has tried to find the exit of the MGM or Venetian with a few drinks in them knows what I'm talking about. It's impossible. After 3-5 earnest attempts to leave you find yourself in the exact same spot and give up. You are resigned to your fate. You sit down and lose all of your money at a quarter slot next to an moron with false teeth and a fanny pack or at mini-baccarat next to a gaggle of mini-Asians with sunglasses and notebooks. Except here, instead of gambling, you end up buying extra plastic lamps that belong in a dorm room and not your home. I know the lay out of the Schaumburg location. It's set up like a normal big box retail store. The Bolingbrook location is set up like a mythical Greek labyrinth patrolled by soccer moms, tourists and couples steeped in the glow of young love... in other words THE WORST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. If you do choose to go to the awful Bolingbrook location, for the love of god, use the pencil, the scorecard and the topographical map they provide you. Because if you somehow forget that the "Ergdiby Flugginhas" (translation "shelf") is located in quadrant 4 row 55 aisle 32 bin 89 you will have to backtrack. You don't want to backtrack. Your quest back to the item in question will be like plodding against a winding, moving airport sidewalk while dodging grinning idiots and screaming children. This is one of my favorite home stores!!! Everything that I have ever bought from them looks good. You do have to possess some skills to put their furniture together. I advise that if you are making your first trip to IKEA is to plan well ahead. Go to their website, www.ikea.com. Do some shopping online. Register on the website so that you can create a shopping list that you can print out. Also, measure your space in your apartment, condo, townhouse or home and use the info on the website to make sure that what you are buying is going to fit in it's intended space. Also, they give dimensions for the boxes that the item is packaged in. Make sure whatever vehicle you bring can haul your stuff back to your place. Their shipping fees are way too expensive. Here in St. Louis, we have a company that will go to IKEA, once a month, and buy your stuff and haul it back to you. The quality of every piece of furniture or accessories that I have bought have been good. The price is very reasonable even taking into account the gas and time to get there. I go about 2x a year just to look and/or buy. If you need help putting the stuff together, I consider myself a professional IKEA assembly technician! read more

YIKES - COVID-19 petri dish alert. They're basically doing the bare minimum when it comes to safety, and it was the least safe I've felt since the start of the pandemic. Large crowds of people, many who are not wearing masks properly, and you have to walk through the entire store to get out. It was like traversing through the 9 circles of hell from Dante's Inferno. When I graduated from college I drove to Ikea and dropped $3,000. I was able to pack just about everything in to my car (because it was all in flat boxes). My thumb and forefinger were sore for a week - you can only do so much with an allen wrench! It's a great place to get cheap lamps or utensils for the kitchen. It's a good place for children's furniture. You know they are going to outgrow it and, when they do, you won't feel guilty about leaving it at the curb. Warning: don't move the furniture too often. Particle board doesn't like the stress. This place is great for cheap, visually appealing furniture. Meat balls = yummy. read more

Love this place! They never get the insane crowds like in Schaumburg, so it is a much more pleasurable shopping experience. Love the cafeteria, the food is cheap and great. Love the Lingonberry soda on tap at the cafe and downstairs at the food counter. Also, I adore that they sell swedish pancakes frozen... they heat up nicely in the microwave, all you need is a dollop of lingonberry jam and you are all set for a yummy Swedish breakfast at home! read more

Oh! to have 10 houses to decorate!! What I love about Ikea is that some clever Swedes came up with minimalist, inexpensive yet sturdy furniture and accessories that conserve space and are efficient for all types of lifestyles. And then they mass marketed it to the world. Voila, mega concept and mega bucks for them! My back hurts from rolling that overloaded cart around because there were so many things I really, really didn't need, but they were inexpensive, great quality and by golly, why not switch things up alittle? First stop: bedding. You cannot find a better assortment of comforters, sheets, pillows, duvets & blankets. The duvets and linens are good quality (look for highest thread count - like 500) and are reasonably priced. I love the pillows as they are vacuum packed into this little rolls and presto, when you open the plastic they swell up into very nice pillows. Best to test the grade though as some are alittle on the scrawny side. Next stop: Kitchen stuff. I just love all the glassware - and just about every cooking utensil you can imagine. Priced well below any department store. My pasta grabber is still one of my favorite kitchen utensils - a bargain at $3. Seriously, if you are planning to redo your kitchen or summer cottage, this is the place to buy your cabinets, have them delivered or haul them home, have their assemblers come out and install for you. I have purchased many solid pieces of kitchen storage - it's rock solid - for $350... I love that you can select from several colors of wood, or formica (?), but all and all the lines are clean, and the pieces make alot of sense. Next stop: Rugs. I purchased some very good looking runners that are currently on sale for $90 from $300. I have recently shopped for rugs and carpets so my eye was keen, and I must say they were very well made kilims using vegetable dyes - and soooo reasonably priced . A big sale now, and the selection is very good. I also purchased three woven, rag-rugs for the entry way, and they are wash & wear. Next stop: storage. There are many options here for storing just about everything. If you have been to the container store, you can see the difference in price for basic shoe or pantry storage. Many glass and plastic options here, and great vases. Last stop (only because my cart was full) was the outdoor and beach chairs. They have a wonderful folding chair that has a soft cloth panel that streches in front of it so you can recline, but have your legs protected from grass or sand. they have matching soft coolers for wine and soda, and very cute towels. Bathroom accessories and wall accessories are plentiful, as are mats, towels, bathroom curtains, you name it! Check out: The self check out makes me realize that I would quickly be fired from a cashier's position. I am lame at this and then on top of it I have to bag it!!?? That is what really tired me out and I was happy when it was over. There are real live cashiers, however the lines are longer and you still have to bag it yourself. Beware there is now a 5 cent charge per bag "because they are trying not to fill the landfills..." I am not sure how that is going to prevent someone from not recycling their plastic...sounds like a recooping of expenses to me. I must prefer Ikea Bollingbrook to Ikea Schaumburg, even though Woodfield is right next door. The drive from Lincoln Park is long and traffic on the Kennedy can be heavy. Bollingbrook is new and fresh, and the traffic late morning on the Stevenson to 355 is a breeze. Helpful shopping hint: This is a massive store. Take a good look around your kitchen, bath, pantry, closets etc., before you head out. Take measurements of areas that you need a shelf or cabinet. Plan on spending several hours (it goes by quickly - and I got lost alot). Bring a friend (for the extra help in wheeling around), and you can have a wonderful fresh lunch on the top floor. ORDER # 342330547 WHERE IS MY ORDER!!!! Good morning IKEA. I have taken to social media because your customer service department via telephone has basically told me that they cant and wont help me. I have a business order of over $2000 worth of goods that were scheduled to be delivered today. When I called this morning to find out if there was a window, I was told that my order wasn't coming until January 24th. I said surely that can't be correct because initially it was estimated at January 21st and I called on January 13th to schedule it for earlier. That person then scheduled the delivery for today January 18th. Please see order summary in picture below. Accordingly, this first call I made this morning, transferred my call and of course I was connected to a line that said " our call volume is high, call back"' and was disconnected. I then placed the call again, this time I reached a person, they tried to help but when they realized it was a business order, said they are not the right department and then transferred me yet again. Once more I get the message " our call volume is high" and then disconnected. At this point, I am fuming as I am trying to open my business with this IKEA furniture that is REQUIRED by my franchisee who has over 1000 locations all over the US and internationally, yet IKEA doesn't seem to care one bit that my order isn't being delivered. I call back once again and talk to a gentleman who seems to be helping me, he is with the business dept so he can help. He goes to check on something, then when he comes back, all of a sudden he cant hear me!! So i am yelling in the phone, " hey I'm here and yet he doesn't seem to hear anything. I reluctantly hang up in hopes he would just call me back as I know my phone number is on the order. Nope. Sooooo, I call yet again, this time I get Maria in the business dept. I tell her what I've gone through this morning and she tries to help. She says the reason he couldn't call back is because their phones only allow INCOMING calls. What company of this size in this day and age knowing cell phones drop calls all day every day doesn't give their customer service team the capacity to contact a dropped call! Nevertheless, Maria attempts to help, but her resolution is that my order is on the freight and will come on the 24th. Now mind you NO ONE from IKEA has emailed, called or anything telling me that my delivery date has changed. My documentation clearly shows today, January 18th between 9am and 9pm, yet she is insisting there is nothing to be done. I asked for a manager and told there is no manager on duty ALL weekend. Then I said can they just forego that freight and get the neighboring stores to make the delivery today. She then calls Schaumburg and Bolingbrook stores, who say they "WON'T" fill the order because the order originated as an online order. Again, WON'T, not CAN'T. It's a business order, of course it originated online!!!! I then ask for the manager in store of which I am then placed on hold, then transferred to the Admin office for the Bolingbrook store of course in which no one answers and then I am subsequently hung up on. And here is the kicker, you CAN'T call ANY IKEA store directly, they all route you through the 888 number!!!! Soooo....here I am taking to social media as it seems no one in the telephone customer service, gives a darn about my order. IKEA, listen, I am trying to open a business and I need my order TODAY. I have scheduled an assembly team to assemble the 45 pieces of furniture that I have ordered. Are you planning to compensate me for losing my deposit on the assembly team? What are you planning to do other than to keep transferring my call and hanging up on me. Shall I inform my Franchisor that IKEA cant handle our business? Should I spread the word to my other franchisee that this is what to expect from your business or is anyone going to get on the ball and get my order to my store...TODAY. Ikea is the worst. They totally scammed my credit card by not crediting a refund. It has been over 2 months. Numerous calls with 25 minute wait times just to have someone say they will transfer me to a person who can help and then just hang up on me. They say they are updating the phone system. read more

Not worth the huge hype... I guess we in St. Louis are just jealous because we don't have one. Each of the rooms were beautiful, but nothing that really grabbed me. My idea is that everything is mostly for apartment dwellers, not necessarily homeowners. Who doesn't absolutely adore Ikea?? Let me just say I was more than tickled pink when I found out I moved less then 10 minutes away from the Bolingbrook Ikea. I started getting a little scared when I read all the reviews about getting lost in the store easily. Myself, being a natural blonde, was a little concerned and debated tying a string to my vehicle so I'd know how to get out! All kidding aside, I had absolutely no issue navigating through the store at all. If you can read signs and follow a map, I am not sure why people have so much trouble in this store? Anyways, the only crummy thing is you can't get a shopping cart upstairs, but as the employee explained to me, all the upstairs items you have to get at the self serve downstairs. Which means beds, bed frames, sinks, etc. The big stuff you can't fit in a cart. And HALLELUJAH! It's an extremely calm, quiet store. Nothing like the Schaumburg location. Perfect for people who get anxiety in crowds and lines, like myself. The employees were friendly, and on all 3 of the occasions I needed help, I had someone there to answer my questions. Very polite, and genuinely caring staff, which makes the place that much more enjoyable. Ikea is one of my favorite places to shop, mostly because you can get the coolest stuff for next to nothing. I walked out with 2 6-packs of wine glasses for $4.99. Who doesn't need 10 if those?! There is pretty much everything you could want or need in a home. Perfect for those college kids or apartment/condo people as well. This Ikea definitely delivers on being awesome. When I made my way to the checkout, I was helped by 2 really nice girls, one in training. The one girl who packed my bag noticed that my picture frame was nicked, and instantly called for someone to bring me a new one. How nice, because I didn't even see it when I picked it up. I then continued to purchase meatballs, creme sauce, and Swedish chocolate for dinner. I have never had Ikea meatballs, but let me tell you ... they are amazing! I highly recommend buying the take home bag and whipping up some creme sauce! My husband devoured his helping within seconds. The meatballs only go in the stove for 15 mins, but their so light and fluffy they basically melt in your mouth. I have developed a very unhealthy relationship with Ikea, I am pretty sure I will be back to this location soon .... actually maybe even later today! read more

For anyone who has visited a Las Vegas casino, the disorienting feeling of stepping into an Ikea will be familiar. After a few corporate-imposed turns, you will have no idea of your location relating to the entrance, much less how the compass rose would overlay the showroom floor. Despite the twists and turns our Scandinavian overlords impose upon us with their floor plan, it's hard to be annoyed at Ikea. The prices range from undeniably fair to freaking incredible. Streamlined furniture may be their bread and butter, but amazing deals can be found in housewares and home furnishings. A large cutting board which would command a price of $7 at a big box store costs a mere $1.50. Stainless mixing bowls are half as expensive as you'd pay at a discount retailer. I'm not sure how they do it, but I'm not lodging any complaints. This Ikea doesn't distinguish itself from other locations I've visited, but that's not a problem. They provide a consistent & positive experience. read more

Okay, I got in and I got out with what I needed - just a small mattress and frame for my nephew. It's functional, inexpensive, and cheap. However, I really hate navigating through their store. Is this Labyrinth? Is David Bowie going to start singing and kidnap my lady? Is a troll going to steal my wallet and then try to be my friend? My desk that I bought in 2009 is STILL holding up, and looks brand new, despite THREE moves since my initial purchase. Awesome! Before you leave with your furniture purchases, be sure to check out the awesome selection of Swedish snacks. This is a review is of their $199 Kitchen planning package.. I love their meatballs and other products.. but their planning service is ( at least the one we received) is no help at all.. VERY DISAPPOINTED.. I am helping my son and his girlfriend plan a kitchen remodel on a budget.. We had visited IKEA (In Bolingbrook Ill ) a few times.. they liked the cabinets and were planning on using them in their kitchen. When they finally closed on their new( 1990's outdated) home we wanted to order the design service to plan their new kitchen.. Only to find you can not request that by phone or email.. you have to drive to your nearest( 40 miles away) IKEA store. So we made the totally unnecessary trek to order this service only. For the $199 cost, we were told it would be a 4 hour consultation, and we would receive guidance and advice to products as well as an itemized list of products needed , total cost of products needed, and layout design pictures. The designer arrived over an hour late, bad traffic, and stayed less than an hour. She provided very little guidance to products and options. Luckily we had a some ideas of what we wanted, but were really hoping for a knowledgeable person to suggest options. This is a small simple U-shaped Kitchen. The one option she did suggest, that we agreed to, she did not include on her final layout. After we received the layout and itemized costs , they seemed to be significantly higher than what we thought. So I went through line by line.. and noticed there were 14 cover panels at a cost of $989 when we only need THREE! There was also the cost of a sink included, that we said we didn't need . Additionally, since she was there we asked for a quote for cabinets in the family room. None of which were included. I gave her the opportunity to make it right.. I emailed (twice) and asked about the 14 cover panels and their cost when we only needed three. and this was her response. . "The Ikea itemized list is not accurate so there is a "Total Parts Sheet" that indicates the true amount of panels and other pieces you will need. The Ikea employee placing the order looks at that sheet and adjusts the order accordingly. For instance (I don't know how qty: 3 3'x8' panels got on the Ikea list) but it's only 1 that you need and that is stated on the "Total Parts Sheet." Hope that explains but let me know if additional info. is needed. " SO for the $199 we got no help, no accurate list, no accurate price for what we need. Why bother??? read more

This is a much more manageable location versus the Schaumburg store. This store only has 2 floors versus their 3. Don't get me wrong, it's still a madhouse but they have 1 hour of free babysitting for kids over the age of 4 and who are potty trained. What a relief for parents and shoppers alike! read more

We were on the hunt for a TV stand for our new TV. We knew exactly what we wanted... glass with cherry wood.... not black not silver not ginormous just sleek and classy. We've be searching everywhere for one. We thought let's go here..... we did and I immediately got annoyed. It's like a mandatory maze that you have to walk through. I felt like I was walking in a line through a museum.... Sure the prices are inexpensive but the stands looked like they were inexpensive and they mostly all had wheels (Not fond of the wheels.) I must admit since you have to walk through the maze I did buy stuff I wasn't looking to buy. I mean this place is good for lil' things like lamps, utensils, flatware, dinnerware.... and stuff... But that's about it. No interest in going there again. read more
