Shhhhh I could spend hours in this store. Kirkland's has a great selection of pieces for every room in your house. This is a really good-sized store, too, so you are probably going to get what you need in-stock. Once upon a time, Pier 1 was right down the road from me. When they closed their doors for good, I was a bit bummed because I honestly had forgotten about Kirkland's. I don't go out to this side of town very often, but I was looking up home decor places online when I moved and lo and behold, Kirkland's popped up. I was so happy to walk back in their doors! Yes, there's Home Goods, and who doesn't love Home Goods? They've got a great selection, too, but I find the items at Kirkland's to be a step above. The store is arranged more nicely and is less picked-over. Sometimes at HG, you'll see things that are broken or dented in some way. I've never seen that at Kirkland's. Something else - they've often got a coupon or other discount you can use at the register, but I find their prices to be fair as they sell goods that are not cheaply made and rarely damaged. If you're looking for fall decor, Christmas decorations, something for Easter or Thanksgiving or Valentine's Day or summer, they've got you covered each season with fresh decor to make your house feel like a home.

Now, for all the inexperienced and "nay-sayers" out there - I successfully installed this flagpole on top of a solid concrete pad (6+ in. thick) as pictured. I almost ordered another brand deck mount for telescoping flagpoles, but after more research I found a comparable and less expensive "Dock Mount for Telescopic Flagpole" (3 iin. O.D.), thru "Ace Flag & Visual Promotions" out of Depew, N.Y. Their customer service was awesome, very friendly and very helpful! I installed the Dock Mount with four "Parawedge" 3/8" x 3-3/4" concrete anchors from Home Depot. (Be sure the drill w/masonry drill bit is held as vertically straight as possible while drilling!) Directions call for min. 2 3/8" depth of hole but recommend adding ¼" to that depth, making sure to completely cleaning out holes after drilling, by blowing in them with a baster type squeeze tube, small rubber tube or even a bent straw. I did have to lightly tap the threaded studs left or right after installing them for a better fit of the base plate. I also recommend applying a corrosion inhibitor and lubricant spray to the entire telescoping pole sections which not only protects but helps in smoother movement. I also treated the studs and nuts since they are only galvanized steel and exposed to the elements. Since installation over a week ago, the flagpole and mounting base have withstood several days of very brisk winds here in southern California! Very pleased with both!

I thought that was pretty cool. I have been to other craft classes and I don't think I have ever seen the person running the class do the crafts for the person who couldn't attend. We really enjoyed ourselves. We made a welcome sign to hang on your door, and a key holder for your wall. The class was easy to follow and it was relaxed. We were able to take our time and didn't feel rushed at all. This was the first time my mom walked out of a craft class, or painting class, and genuinely had a great time, because we weren't on a time limit. Mandi was extremely helpful. I will definitely be back with a group to take part in more craft nights.

I would estimate that only about 10% of the inventory was antiques and many of these were bigger items like dressers. Several of the products I looked at were made by small businesses, such as the soaps and seasoning I bought. We came in December so the store had a lot of Christmas decor while we were there. I'd love to come back during another time of year to see what they have then as well!

I paid a quick visit after going to Mayer Bros - this place is right down the street crossing Transit road, and is so easy to spot! They've got a small parking lot beside the building. The Olde Steeple itself is absolutely gorgeous - it's an old church built in 1880, and at one point the building had been burned down almost entirely. Extensive renovations eventually brought the Olde Steeple back to life, giving it new purpose by way of becoming a lovely shop, where you can now find some of the cutest home decor, craft items, even teas and coffee! The small barn in the back was donated to the Olde Steeple in 2010, and houses a ton of cool antique furniture pieces. I thought this place would lean more toward being an antique shop, but I didn't find very many antiques here besides what could be found in the barn. (They're listed in Sunday Driver, which is an antique shop directory for NY, so had guessed they would've had more antiques to offer.) I would classify it more as a country store if anything, though one that leans a little more toward the expensive side. I also thought this place would have had more locally made products. They had some awesome homemade jams, but the tea I bought came from SC, and one of the little decor items I bought came from China. The doily I bought also appeared to be mass-produced. I also noticed a lot of 1803 Candles products, which is a company based out of IL. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but I would have looked more forward to spending what I did if they maybe had some Alpine Made stuff, or maybe some Amish linens and doilies? Maybe I got the wrong idea about what this place was supposed to be. But I will definitely visit again now that I know what sort of things they offer here. Just...don't plan on doing any serious antiquing at this place. Day 22
