I couldn't find a survey to fill out, so I am writing this review about the great customer service I encountered. Particularly from David who is in the textile/curtain area. We visited on Tuesday(11/7) night around 8pm. He was extremely helpful and enthusiastic with showing us the correct curtains and how to install them properly. We asked questions that lasted at least 20 minutes, and he answered everything with patience and useful suggestions. He also had to handle a situation where two customers were upset over a sold out curtain. He managed the problem efficiently and in a calm manner. Seriously, I hope this particular establishment sees this review because seeing how helpful and kind he was made our night so much better. We got all the supplies needed from the nails to the end pieces, and it was all thanks to David! Ikea, please pass my high regards towards him, it was so refreshing to interact with such a great member! Thank you!! read more

The customer service at this store was the most unpleasant experience. We thought we were putting together a cost effective bedroom. Wrong! The entire experience from initial greetings to figuring out all the separate element finding and loading them from warehouse to home and check out was unpleasant. The customer service was the worst. They have good quality merchandise at a low prices and I have bought here before, but I want to complain about their wasting my time today. I checked at ikea.us and found a bed is available at this branch with quantity 1. Came to store after driving for 30 minutes and found "temporarily unavailable" sign on shelf. Asked an associate and their phone showed quantity 1, so it could not have been on someone's cart, because the sign would not be there in this case. I concluded that their stock quantities online are inaccurate due to negligence and disregard for customers' time, because they failed to update quantity to zero when placing the "temporarily unavailable" sign on the shelf. read more

Love the Ikea furniture and prices but damn those furniture pieces are hard to assemble! I bought my bed frame here and just last night I came in to buy wooden drawers $35, living room rug $19.99, bed sheet set $27.99, floor lantern lamp $14.99. It's great that you can redecorate your house at such a low cost but assembly is a nightmare! Coming here makes me daydream! I can't wait to purchase a home with bae! This cheap, pathetic excuse for furnishings is the U-haul of furniture stores. U put it in your giant cart and U-haul it up to the counter. U-haul into your house. U act like monkey carpenter putting scrap wood and bolts together. U-haul it to the trash a month later. Not since the Vikings have a group of Scandinavians come to North America and raped and pillaged us so badly, boldly and blindly. "ARRGHHH... serve 'em meatballs, Magnus! Who doesn't love IKEA!? I always seem to forget about this amazing massive mall-like store. I not only find everything I need for my house for super cheap (compared to most home furniture stores), but I also find it relaxing like a walk-thru attraction. Call me weird, but I love going to IKEA just to walk the guided path through all the different departments and look at all the ways bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens are arranged! It always gives me great ideas for my own home. I also love the home decorations and plants section. I can find wall art for super cheap compared to other stores. In fact, I can find just about everything for uber cheap - even the cafeteria upstairs which doesn't taste bad to me! Portion control for cheap! The only down side to IKEA as a parent is the childcare. I recently tried to call in advance to see if they could watch my 2 year old, but no one picked up the phone. When I got there, they told me they will watch kids who are potty trained and who are a certain height. They accept 2 year olds, but the height requirement was like 48 inches! I looked at the woman like "you'll take a two year old but only if she's that tall!?! No 2 year old is that tall!" And she basically nodded in agreement and rolled her eyes saying "yeah, I know, but it's based in height not age". So bizarre. Other than that, IKEA is great. I can handle putting my kid in the cart or just going alone. Going alone, getting some breakfast and walking through the store sounds more like my taste of fun anyways. Hehe. read more

I only go to the Ikea in Mission Valley and I absolutely love it. I love to have organization at home and this is the very spot for it. I've tried for years to block the memories of assembling "Billy" bookcases (I know you have one too!) for my first student room. A friend (after that a very vague acquaintance) gave me an IKEA gift card a long time ago and a part of my ego did not want to waste this money so a couple of my furniture pieces comes from IKEA. Or actually came, because the stuff they sell is not very long-lasting so I had to go back recently. I reassured myself that this was going to be an in/out operation. So with my Ipod on volume 106 in an attempt to overwhelm the screaming, out of control children that run around in this place like hyper animals, I followed the arrows until the living room section. Am I the only one that thinks it's insane that a map needs to tell you where you're going in a STORE? Anyway, I kind of liked the living room section, the showrooms look pretty neat (probably because they superglue the items instead of assembling them) and since it's so cheap, I found myself in a state of excitement: maybe this IKEA thing isn't so bad at all... there is stuff here I can use for other parts of my house.... I don't think I will ever be a fan of their whole Scandinavian name system though- I rather lounge on a "Brad Pitt" than on a LEKSVIK or LIATORP but maybe that's just me. Some people seem pretty excited that they sell food. It's a furniture store that sells food. Off course they do this! By the time you found the exit alive you're freakin starving! Especially knowing that you have quite a workout coming up by dragging all the stuff home and assemble it. Any Swedish meatball would taste good knowing that. I managed to make it out alive to the warehouse section and after my workout to find my stuff between all the hardboard boxes (not all the employees obviously exude the same spirit of Ikea friendliness as the "Need help? Just ask!" signs hanging overhead) I finally got to the check out line among about 10,000 other people. The adult:kid ratio here was still 1:10, but kids seem to bounce off pretty nicely to the front of the IKEA carts so I had to control myself not to attempt to reduce this ratio a little bit. There is a designated playground for a reason, parents. After the wait in line, an employee told me that one of my items was not in stock. IKEA always tortures you to come back at least a second time, if it's not for returning something, picking up a crucial screw that is missing than it is because they don't have your stuff. Which meant I had only five days to blackmail someone to pick my stuff up. You have to go to the other side of the terminal (it does resemble an airport) to make this pick-up possible in the first place, and while waiting in this area, IKEA tries to make you enthusiastic about your future work: : ....we don't charge you for things you can easily do on your own. So together we save money...for a better everyday life. I do not feel more connected to my coffee table just because I have made it with my own hands. If it were rewarding, it were another story but five months down the line, the stuff is starting to fall apart and reason why I had to come back here in the first place. Closets can't handle a weight-load of more than four t-shirts and if you try to move an item like a drawer, it pops up because it's only secured by gravity, not the little screw things that are supposed to keep it secure. Returning of assembled items is no option. There is a reason why IKEA is cheap: not hiring enough help, no assembling or delivery, lack of service and the stuff lasts averagely a couple of months. Combined with the spoil of gas, waste of time, effort, cursing and shopping torture it's not even that much cheaper. It just seems inevitable for a variety of reasons to have to go to an IKEA at least twice in your life. I should have known better. There is a reason IKEA is located in Mission Valley. They get two stars for the glasses, towels and cheap stuff you don't have to assemble- yes that is a pretty good deal. And also for the one and lonely picture frame on my wall that still hangs. Once it comes down I hope it lands on my head and brainwashes me to buy from Craiglist, second hand stores or maybe even Wal-Mart in the future. read more

IKEA has and always will be the go to place for "let's put a space together now" I've always counted on ikea for quick trips to grab, plants, pillows and for quick set up office furniture. BUT this review is to shine a really bright light on how ikea, every year, allows AJs Kids Crane Toy drive to host their toy drive for Children's Hospital, in their parking lot. EVERY YEAR. So with that being said, I will always support my city's IKEA, because my city's IKEA supports AJs Kid Crane Toy drive and AJs Toy drive is for the children who have to stay at Children's Hospital for any amount of time. It's a really small way to make a big gesture to a little girl or guy who is maybe getting stitches from jumping around like Spider-Man or cat-woman. Or having to stay for a longer visit, like when my daughter was attacked by a dog. We were at the hospital for 1 week, fighting an infection, which was so serious we were counseled by surgeons in the event my daughter had to lose her foot. The infection was not responding to the antibiotics, but THANK GOD, after 7 days of ongoing constant antibiotics pumping 24/7, my daughter came out the VICTOR!!! The showrooms are very large, but they have handy dandy maps that show you the shortcuts through the maze. =) The furniture is great priced and easy to assemble (as long as you get all the parts). Even if all the parts aren't in (like mine) they have super friendly, efficient people in the returns/exchange area (btw- thank you kind lady in the black and blue ray bans, you made a not so fun thing to do more tolerable) =) Overall cheap-but-working-and-good-looking furniture =) and they offer furniture restraints so you can keep your family safe read more

I love IKEA, but what I don't love is walking out having spent a ton every time we go. Haha. My husband mocks me for buying a pack of their scissors each time we go. I love them. They are so handy and always going missing at home. We like to walk about for inspiration and they usually have something we need. Great prices. The quality is generally good, but you get what you pay for. We bought a kitchen table from IKEA a few years ago and any nicks in the top of it allowed water to get in and turned into these swollen areas and then the paints chipped off. Ikea is amazing. We all know that. They have furniture that looks and feels rich for a cheap price. They have home delivery shipping at a good rate and the employees are friendly. You can find any and all pieces to design the interior of your home. It's heaven. Well, the idea is. This location is packed with little ones running everywhere! The small day care they have provided to drop off your kids is ALWAYS full and so people have no choice but to bring the whole fam. Nothing wrong with kids I love them, but with big carts and heavy pieces of furniture its surely hard to maneuver your way around them trying not to hit or run their little feet over. Especially because the way Ikea is built (in one direction only) there are so many people and it makes the experience less desirable because you're just waiting to get to the end! IKEA is a magical Swedish wonderland filled with goodies and pretty baubles that you want to own in that house that you could never actually hope to acquire at this point in time. After particularly brutal days at UCSD, I would go to IKEA with friends and wander the aisles, make up stories for the people who we imagined lived in the fake display living rooms or kitchens, and stare with wonder and envy at the massive kid's section, secretly wishing we all could have had an over-sized stuffed bee or massive fake palm frond to put above our bed as children. Everyone else is, of course right. The stuff doesn't last forever. But if you're a college student, or cash strapped new graduate, then you'd best IKEA it up, baby. The furnishings, while cheap and short-lived are really tasteful and incredibly attractive. After you've frolicked through two floors of everything you could ever possibly stuff into a house, pause at the upstairs cafe and indulge in a Swedish meatball or lingonberry juice just so you can brag that you've eaten at the cafe. Or go to the snack bar, and enjoy a soft serve while you wait for the people in the warehouse to get you your freaking couch after a 30 minute wait. I mean, theoretically. Maybe subliminal messages are played in the music. Maybe the lighting makes everything seem so much newer, affordable, and pretty. Maybe the food additives lower inhibitions. Whatever the case, those Swedes have certainly made the items in Ikea incredibly attractive. But fear not, for they have shown mercy and most of the items are also very affordable! As a virgin Ikea adventurer, I stopped by for one purpose: breakfast. But once the meal was done, no, before we even got our food, crates of mysterious objects were calling out to me. Even while I was eating (and trust me, I love me some eats), I couldn't help staring at the crate of colorful objects that I couldn't quite make out (they ended up being food molds. Incredibly Attractive food molds). Before you know it, my friend and I were walking the gauntlet of modern, lightweight, cheap (in both meanings of the word) furniture and trying, but failing, to resist the urge to touch everything. Everything here is so colorful. Everything is lightweight, modern, assemble-yourself, and cheap. Everything will serve your needs immediately, but will not last, unless it's something that hardly ever moves or gets touched. Ikea is the perfect place for elegant furniture that will never become heirlooms. Perfect for temporary housing situations, quick replacements, tight budgets, or any person that feels the need to change their decor every few months. The stuff is made of cheap material, but with all the options, choosing the right item to handle the task (and do so stylishly) is easy. That is, if you can resist the urge to spend your life savings on more furniture than you, your parents, your cousins, your children, and your grandchildren will ever need. read more

In many ways I view IKEA the same way I view Walmart. Yes, you can find some deals here. But you're generally getting low quality product, poor customer service, and just an overall hassle. I stopped by here with plans in hand (well, on my phone) of all the pieces and parts I was going to need to put together a standing desk for myself. I wanted the satisfaction of building something with my own two hands. Of course, once you walk in you're greeted with a set of stairs followed by a maze that would surely stump even the most intelligent of lab rats. Are we 100% certain there isn't a piece of cheese at the end here? After finally navigating my way to the right section I wanted to find someone to talk to because I had a few questions and wanted to make sure I got the right hardware. Similar to Walmart, I couldn't find anyone to help for a good 20 minutes. And when I finally found someone she really didn't have a lot to offer me in the way of advice or assistance. I decided to just skip to the end and ask for the specific parts I was looking for, only to find out the store didn't stock a couple of the items I needed. At that point I was just over it. I just left and wound up ordering a desk online. If you know exactly what you want, where it is in the store, and don't need anything else you're good. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck. read more

I was shocked at the disorganization and filth in this store. What really upset me is that a very high majority of everything they sell is made in China. I am not into Chinese made products and probably will never be again (for obvious reasons). We had to wait to get into this store and there is ZERO shade. I can't remember the last time I was here but through some online searching, found some inexpensive throw blankets (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20089925/) that would be perfect for our outdoor Winter Wonderland Holiday Party. For whatever reason, they don't allow you to purchase these online to ship so I had to make the trek out to San Diego to purchase. I came during my lunch hour and was super surprised that I didn't have much problem with parking or crowds. I wasn't sure where the blankets would be so I had to start at the top of this store and work my way all the way around. If you're familiar with Ikea, this is quite the chore as it just winds through each section. There are a few short cuts that you can take but otherwise - quite the journey. I finally found the blankets on the bottom floor (where I started) and made my way to the cashiers. Again, I was shocked that there were short lines and I was out in a jiffy. Mad props to Ikea for making you purchase their reusable bags or forgo one. I'd highly recommend the blankets. They are very cozy and super warm and you can't beat the price. We do a lot of movie nights with the neighbors during the summer months so I can see us using them for that as well. I'm not sure how these would hold up to heavy use but for the occasional use, i'm sure they'll hold up very well. Ikea is worth checking out if you haven't been. They provide great household items at a great value. Make sure you bring your own bag or prepared to pay for one. = ) read more

I can get lost in IKEA's endless square footage of designs and concepts. So, I opt for finding my goods online, calling in to make sure they have the items in stock and then picking up my order all ready to go. Just swipe the plastic and I'm outtro. Great for nic-nacs. After getting no response from their after sales office on a botched delivery, I had to call the general customer care line and was put on a 37 minute hold before being told that the after sales unit couldn't respond to my calls because "they all have been in meetings all day". I feel like a rat in a maze! Whenever I go shopping here it is a maze to get through this place. That being said, I guess that I am a rat for a good deal. The store has a good selection of furniture and household goods. All of which are reasonably priced. I have made purchases here. I can't say on any occasion that I have been in the store that I have encountered a staff member who was on the sales floor assisting customers. However there were some who were stocking the shelves in some of the departments. Yet no one ever greeted me and asked if i needed any assistance. Which is strange since some places you cannot get rid of the sales people like they are a skunk with funk. I like their selection of furniture. They seem to be versatile and you can't go wrong with the pricing. They offer furniture assembly for a small price. The cafe has decent food. Yeah, a lot of the stuff here is not so sturdy, but that being said if you came here and check out all of the cool stuff that they have to offer, you are more than likely to find something that you want or need. I like some of the kitchen stuff and the lamps are pretty cool too. I personally recommended IKEA furniture if after you build it, you do not plan to take it with you the next time that you move from apartment to apartment. Odds are it is going to break into smaller pieces during your U-HAUL moving experience that is more than likely to include you and your beer drinking buddies doing all of the lifting. GOT GLUE? IKEA is also a fun place to kick back and people-watch on a late Saturday morning. Mostly young couples that recently moved in together disagreeing over what their apartment should look like. Funny thing is, the guy usually looks like he just came off a hard night of drinking over at PB and this lady is dragging his rear end to the store against his personal desire and better judgment :-) read more

I love Ikea, great place to walk around and shop and get ideas. Yesterday, I go to but a mattress the one we choose doesn't come rolled up. In front of the sales guy wife and I are discussing how will we get it up our stairs into the bedroom. He only suggests to have my wife at the front so I can push the mattress up. We go to the warehouse to pick up the mattress in our long bed truck but the box and mattress is much larger than i can carry. We learn if we go back to Ikea customer service they will deliver it. While I'm there I learn they will also carry up the stairs and place the new mattress in the room of choice. Never offering to tell me for another fee they will take my old mattress, I learn about that part today but I'd have to go to Ikea and back to customer service to ask for and pay for it and that would change delivery date from today to another available day. So my complaint is, we were never told they deliver, carry mattress in home or that they offer to haul old mattress away. Tip of the day, make sure to ask these questions because you may not be offered these services. read more

It's Disneyland for Minimalists. Outstanding designs for everything home interior related. Clean interior, clean and simple designs, beautiful. Method of shopping is fun and ingenious: start at second floor with the cafeteria and walk around showrooms at your leisure writing down the numbers of items you want to buy. Bottom floor begins as sort of a Bed Bath & Beyond set up with a final of Home Depot/Lowe's style warehouse where you procure your furniture in slim boxes. Post-cashier is a mini-market to take home Swedish food specialties. Return policy is 90 days with receipt. I rarely keep receipts and foolishly believed they would let me return items with just the credit card I used to purchase them originally. NOPE. read more

It's my first time at IKEA today. I was amazed at the crowds of people. Then I remembered Costco is nearby and it's the same kind of atmosphere with tons of people. There's great deals but I wasn't impressed with the quality or saw anything I wanted. I suppose the target market is apartment dwellers and dorm room young people. I felt like a tall giant in this store. I'm 5' 7".The scale of furniture is a lot lower than I'm used to. The couches for example look and feel like they last less than three years without falling apart. That's just my opinion. The particle board lifestyle just isn't my cup of tea. Sure there's some neat stuff but it all feels flimsy. The fake plants in here aren't fooling anyone. The bad selection of colors, fake wood textures, Beyoncé song that was on repeat, feeling like I was lost or walking in a circle, lack of "store sections" felt like a big messy warehouse... I felt like I was a bull in a china shop. There were a few Bulls in there that kept bumping into me . I need three feet of personal space. How do people walk so close to one another in here? One lady walks right into my side, another throws her butt into my pelvis, next someone is bumping into me while throwing their stuff onto the checkout counter. No excuse me or sorry, who does that? I'm skinny and it's not like I take up a lot of room. People are in here like a can of sardines on Sundays apparently. I said what are they giving away free stuff here or something? Yes apparently free food on Sundays. No thanks get me the hell out of here. I felt like I was walking down an endless roped line at Disney land to get into the Indian Jones Ride (great ride btw) walking out of IKEA felt like I just got off a ride and into the gift shop as you see the lights outside. Everything they sell is cheaply made crap. I've been suckered into buying things here more than once because my wife likes cheaply made crap. Everything looks stylish because they copy the designs from better-made, more expensive products. Two stars because they have the best shopping carts ever made. I actually enjoy the feeling of pushing their carts around, it's satisfying on a deep level and I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this. Maybe they should hire whoever designed/built their shopping carts to make everything they sell at their stores. read more

Ikea, is like the Devil's apartment on crack. But who are we kidding? We all love to come here, because the stuff is convenient and cheap. And we all love to run home and yelp about how that shit broke in two days. We all saw it coming. Anyway, the things that need directions the most, never do. And no one can pronounce the name of the product they're looking for, if it's even still available. There is however, an almost version but two inches taller if you want that one to match what you have at home. read more
