Ikea can have some amazingly good values, and they have the cheapest food ever. I don't know how I walked by the cafeteria for so long, but stumbled on to it when some starving little blondes I adore wanted some food. I couldn't believe the cost of the food, and how crowded the cafeteria was. Who knew? I always find the curtains, sheets, or rug that I was looking for. I see those white cubbies shelves they sell EVERYWHERE, and have bought a few myself. This is the stuff I buy when I know it's going to get abused, and replaced in a year or so any way. It's a great way to save money, but the quality isn't over the top, nor do I expect as much. You get what you pay for, right? Great variety and selection, and great return policy if ever needed. Total amount paid: $945 08/05/18: I was convinced by Elizabeth H to have our Friheten Sofa delivered and assembled. She setup our order upstairs in the showroom explained that delivery is $29 and assembly is $39 for a total of $68. We go downstairs to pay for our items and finalize delivery of the sofa and some other items we purchased. I speak to an Emily H at the home delivery service booth who goes over our order and sets up a delivery and assembly date of 08/06/18 from 2-6pm. I take the afternoon off of work to be available for the delivery and set up. 08/06/18: I receive a call from Daniel Mora (Delivery/Assembly) who states they are on their way for delivery and assembly and will be at our house by 1pm. He arrives and RUDELY tells me we only paid for assembly of 1 of the 3 boxes for the Friheten Sofa and he cannot assemble only 1. I explain calmly that there must be a mistake because that was not explained or told to us at the store. I show him my invoice and he calls his boss. His boss states that per Ikea store manager (no name of phone number provided) they do not have to assemble because we did not pay the full assembly fee. I explained that I would like a call back from his boss or Ikea because they did not give me that information. He rudely yells at me and says "NO! we have other deliveries and assemblies to do!" He condescendingly says he can leave my stuff here or take it and cancel my order but I have to go to Ikea for a refund and deal with them. I contact Ikea CS and speak with a Deandra P. and I explain in detail everything to her. She apologizes for the mix-up, states she will set up for them to come out on 08/07/18 2-6pm for assembly. She sends me an email with the updated order. I take the afternoon off of work to be available for the assembly. 08/07/18: 18:56 NO Assembly team shows up. I contact Ikea CS and speak with Dy'on T. She informs me that unfortunately the order was cancelled by the store because it did not show payment for the assembly. She states she understands how frustrating this is and asks if I want to setup another assembly appointment and she will correct the order. I informed her I cannot take anymore time off from work to wait for this. This whole issue is complete BS and at this point we just want a refund. She quickly documents everything and sets up a case so that we can be refunded however for the refund to occur we will need to go back to the store OR wait for them to call and possibly mail the check. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT IKEA. 1. I was given erroneous information by 2 IKEA Staff members! 2. Rudely spoken to and yelled at by some random third party affiliate delivery/assembly serviceman. 3. Setup to believe the initial issues were being addressed only to be fooled once again. 4. Took a total of 6 hours OFF OF WORK to be at home waiting for delivery/setup only to find 0 CUSTOMER SERVICE, CONCERN or COMPASSION either time. CORPORATE: if you care at all about how to IMPROVE your company; start with your frontline staff. Reach out to customers (like me) who have VALID reasons to warrant your attention. Every customer with EVIDENCE of a process breakdown that NEGATIVELY affected them SHOULD MATTER, no matter if they pay $1 or $5 million. I fully plan on making people aware of this experience in hopes that NO ONE else has to deal with this. read more

Ikea is awful because 1) EVERYTHING FROM HERE WILL BREAK! and 2) Your furniture will match Gabe Vega's and at least 10 other of your friends. One day I needed a bookshelf. I wanted a thrift store or vintage bookcase, but I also wanted one with doors that hid the ugly colors of the modern books. So I drove to ikea and got their cheapest bookcase with doors: about $70. I put the whole thing together, filled it with books, and then just let it sit there, hoping that with my books out of storage, time to read would magically appear. No one ever touched the bookshelf. One month later, I noticed that the back of the bookshelf had fallen off and two of the shelves had fallen and slanted, spilling books sideways. I thought about selling the thing on craigslist, but it was so horrible I decided to give it away for free. Then I decided that even that was too horrible to do to anyone. So I left it in the hall closest of my old apartments, a nice present for my manager for kicking us out for having my mom over for more than 2 weeks. Hopefully the terrible bookcase will haunt her forever. Story two: You walk into your best friend's house and know where she bought everything. That is when you realize that shopping at Ikea is MORE than a bad idea. Story three: I bought 20 giant wine glasses from here. Now I have none. That's how cheap and breakable their stuff is. Ikea is my go to place when it comes to finding furniture or just little things around the house. We all know that the quality is not the highest however everything is pretty affordable. I've been to other ikeas and this location isn't a mad house compared to them. I can generally find what I'm looking for, the store is pretty clean and I enjoy browsing through the store. Even their cafe is decent if you're hungry and on a budget. I recommend this ikea if you're looking for furniture for an apartment or dorm. read more

I have been sleeping on a rickety-ass futon for 2 years. TWO YEARS. And the year before that, I was sleeping on a dorm-style twin bed (in my FURNISHED studio apartment). Finally, we picked out a bed. We already had a mattress that I got from a friend, so we just needed the boxspring. Got a boxspring with some legs that you put on it. It was easy to assemble, and I had the best night's sleep that I've had in a long time. We have a lot of furniture from Ikea - a computer desk, a dresser and 2 nightstands. Since don't own our own home yet, it doesn't make sense to spend a ton of money on furniture that is either a) too fancy or b) too big for a teeny apartment in North Park. Walking through Ikea is like being in a weird theme park..."Ooh, look! It's BedroomLand!" "Wow, the Enchanted Forest of Lighting Fixtures!" But it's fascinating, because you will see all sorts of stuff that you forgot that you actually needed, in addition to the random stuff that you had NO idea that you needed, but all of a sudden, you DO. DESPERATELY. 20 piece set of tupperware-like containers? Pot scrubber? Fake plants? Oddly shaped plush animals? You are ALL SET. When we went this past Sunday, there was someone giving out free samples of sparkling beverages - like the non-alcoholic champagne type stuff. I tried the Pear, and it was DELICIOUS. What amused me most though, was that the woman giving it out, said to us, "Try some sparkling beverages! They're all natural, and all non-alcoholic. My favorite is the apple-pomegranate...it goes great with VODKA!" Always a good time at Ikea. read more

DO NOT USE THE LOADING ZONE EMPLOYEES. While the sign says IKEA is not responsible for damage "in home transit", they also deny responsibility for any damage by the employees that assist in the loading zone. Problems: 1) The employees in the loading zone are *NOT* IKEA employees, they are outsourced. So whatever the employee does (including causing damage to your car and cussing at the customer, as happened to me), IKEA will not take responsibility for. 2) The company information for the loading zone employees is not available and there is no direct way to contact them. After I spoke with the IKEA manager about the damage to the car, I was given the IKEA San Diego store's number as a method to contact this company. Are you kidding? "There is no direct way to contact them", the manager told me. 3) This employee forced the furniture into my trunk, breaking parts of my car. He did not communicate any concern like "this may not fit" or "I'm not sure", instead, while I was blocked from view behind the open truck and assisting through the side door, he shoved the furniture into the car and caused damage. After I heard the cracking noise, I asked if anything was broken, to which he replied "no" and walked away. Then I opened my trunk and saw the damage. 4) When I spoke to him later to say be careful with other customers (as he had already damaged my car), he flipped out and cussed a number of different things- all of which are inappropriate. I never did anything to that guy. I have no idea why he felt he had to damage my car and no idea why he went ape-shit. 5) You are at the complete mercy of the loading zone employees, and IKEA will not help you at all. This guy is a lunatic and they just said "he doesn't work for IKEA". Neither the manager nor acting store manager took any responsibility of any kind - any attempt at customer service (the unforunate incident??), proof of their policy denying responsibility, any method of following up with the outsourced company on his unacceptable behavior, nothing. 6) If IKEA denies responsibility for these employees, than why don't they: a) Make a sign that the loading zone employees are outsourced to a third party and list the company's name and contact information. b) Make the sign say "not responsible for any [ company] employee behavior in the loading zone and not responsible for any actions or damage in the loading zone". c) The outsourced employees should wear different shirts/uniforms and have name tags. Why go through all the effort of making them wear yellow shirts and appear to be IKEA employees, if you are only going to tell customers that IKEA is not responsible for their behavior?? You are putting IKEA customers at the mercy of these outsourced employees who have no integrity nor any socially appropriate behavior. ACCOUNTABILITY. IKEA does not have any. Ridiculous business practices and I pity anyone who actually works for IKEA. If you look at the "one star" reviews on here, I am clearly not the only person with problems with IKEA. IKEA and I have a love hate relationship. While their products look amazing and are priced competitively, they lack good post sale service. In short if you buy their products and assemble them well, you should be good to go; however in the odd case you are missing a piece or need a specific screw, haha good luck! I'm not at all saying that the individuals within the store don't care, they seem nice and polite. But it's beyond their authority to get missing parts quickly or at all. I bought a couch and was missing one leg, I visited the store three times within the month of purchase. And ended up getting the leg over a month after I brought it to their attention. As I write this review I'm sitting in front of the store waiting for them to open up so i can try again to get some missing screws that were supposed to be sent to me by April 8. It's now May 22. Despite the unpleasantries of IKEA, unless your Rollin in the Dough , ikea remains the best bet for modern styled furniture. read more

You know, being at Ikea for the 4901845127th time yesterday, made me realize that I have never reviewed it. We all know Ikea, one way in, one way out. Start upstairs, hit up the food. End downstairs. Hit up more food. Fin. Every Ikea I've been to between SD & through LA, same layout.Clever? Maybe. I'm always a sucker for the meals. As far as the furniture and home goods, Ikea is always the place to go. The quality is really not BAD, but as far as the items in my apartment that seem to never change, they are not Ikea. Most things we have bought from Ikea, has been replaced and repurchased a couple of times. I guess I am a little more easygoing when it comes to furniture, and our apartment has its leaks and floods, which ruins things like rugs, and wooden legs of coffee tables/tv stands. So, keep that in mind when you shop there. I've finally learned to look for items with metal "feet". What I love the most about Ikea, is that they always carry the same items, and introduce new items to us as well. They constantly have crazy amazing good deals on random things, like $14.99 dishware set? Dayum. This place is also set up to make you're life easy. Because, let's be honest, I really don't have the energy to play interior designer. Ikea has many demonstration rooms set up on the second level, where you can point, oodle, pencil it in on your list, and go get it downstairs. It's fun and easy, not much thinking involved. We really have gotten some great set-ups in here for our bedroom and living room, just by doing this. When people ask us about some of the things on our walls, or cute vases, they can't believe that they were under $10 at Ikea. Yup. Constant convenience here. And I'm speaking from YEARS of shopping here, every time I go, it's the same experience, and that's a GREAT thing. Bottom line: Yes, some things are very transitional and have a short life if you don't take care of them. If you come to Ikea and splurge on some of the higher ticket items ( Dressers, coffee table, TV Stand) They are of good quality, modern design, and much cheaper than other furniture stores. Rugs, Sheets Art, Kitchen stuff, etc, all VERY inexpensive and always worth the price, even if they only last you a year. Now food, which is a major factor of the Ikea Experience: Yes, the swedish meatballs are amazing and $3.99, but if you are like me, and try to at least watch your figure a LITTLE bit, try the stuffed salmon with chive and dill, its $6.99 and delish, comes with veggies too :) Other favorites: - Cinnamon Rolls - Frozen Yogurt - Elderberry Juice Boxes! - Swedish candy. I will agree that you have to be careful on what you buy. Ikea isn't exactly know for its quality. I just recently figured out they sell fabric. They have very trendy patterns that are priced well. Today I came in to buy Ikea's packing cubes also known as Upptacka. They are great if you want to pack and keep everything nice and well organized. They are a steal for $6.99. Right when we are leaving my son decides he wants the pizza and soft drink combo. After standing in another line the lady tells me they are out of pizza. Also the soft drink station was out of ice. I don't understand some of the comments before mine. Almost everything in our home is IKEA, and it's all still standing and well put together. (My husband and I are masters at putting IKEA furniture together now!) Our beds (all three), our storage areas (standing closet, storage wall units, & curio cabinet), our entertainment center, TV stands, coffee table, two desks, our garage work table, bookshelves, not to mention the people who built our house used IKEA cabinets in our kitchen are all still standing and doing well. (most over 5 years old now) The one item that doesn't seem to last are the chairs. (lots of wear and tear) We love getting our glasses, dining ware and cookware at IKEA.. $5.00 for a non stick frying pan!!! Then if your children decide to use knives in it and scratch it up... you don't lose a lot of money! The food area is awesome as well, but they run out of Lingonberry juice all the time! Save some money and take a look at the "as is" area. We have gotten some good deals there as well, but be very picky in that area! read more

Not my idea of a good way to spend a Saturday, but at least I wasn't at work or at church. Having recently moved and having a wife that sold off all of our old shit, its time to fill in the new place with some crazy furniture. To my surprise, it seems that the quality of the furniture itself has gone way up. I remember the first table we bought there was like gluing Popsicle sticks together. We got a huge sturdy book shelf that takes up a whole wall.! We also purchased a welcoming mat, lights, pictures, cabinets and a chest. Shit, I even found my Mom a Mothers-day gift while in there. I was also pretty satisfied by their tasty hot dogs at check out. $.50 for a hot dog? That's a deal! The only downfall is that after buying all this stuff, now you have to put it together yourself. At Ikea you have to understand that there are two types of furniture lines; "college" ikea and "adult" ikea. When I read review of previous Yelpers it becomes apparent that many of them have elected to purchase items from the college line. Aside from quality, the price tag varies greatly from college to adult. You can purchase a night-stand from the college line for $50 or less. The adult collection offers night-stands from $75-$200. "But why would I buy a $200 from Ikea?" you ask. You shouldn't, because you'll have to assemble it yourself. However if you do, you'll immediately recognize the quality of that night-stand. By assembling the stand yourself, you save about $25-$50 from the price tag. Anyway, stop buying the cheap furniture so you'll have less or maybe nothing to complain about. Also, how hard is it to put things together from here anyway? I never read the directions. It's easier than a puzzle. I can see you needing to follow directions if you're building a model car, but a desk or bookshelf? This Ikea seems a little on the small side. I prefer the layout of the Covina location, but I was in the area so I stopped in to make a few purchases. I can spend hours in here and not buy a thing. I don't understand why people keep calling this place a "store." It's not a store. Well sure, you can buy things here, but what it is, is a maze. A terrible labyrinth that promises exits that aren't there and twists and turns you through inoffensive, uninteresting displays of bland Swedish furniture. This is a confusing experience because while the displays are ickily soothing--sort of waiting room innocuous, but more attractive--the crowds and the pushing and the children and the strollers and the college kids pouting at their frazzled baby's-off-to-college parents make me grind my teeth and edge towards panic. And by "edge towards" I mean "immediately." I visited this particular IKEA with my parents, in search of an inexpensive storage unit. None of us had ever set foot in an IKEA store, though we've thumbed through the catalogues. The horseshoe shaped Enter/Exit "map" at the entrance is a cruel joke, as the actual path loops and meanders and occasionally zigs and zags. We had been there perhaps 2 minutes when my Dad and I both began to lose our shit. They didn't have anything that would serve our purpose, and really, it wasn't worth it to suffer through the whole serpentine path of displays, but there didn't seem to be any choice. Exit signs pointed to more exit signs but all signs indicated that you had to complete the maze before escaping. Finally a kind soul overheard my father's near-apoplectic muttering about "inescapable hell holes" and pointed us to a short cut. It wasn't short enough, but it eventually spat us out in the warehouse portion of the "store," where we groped through the throngs (checkout lines? It's all a blur) to the waiting daylight. Is something really a bargain if you pay a cheap price, but get cheap products that break? The good: Prices. I mean, where else can one buy a modern looking coffee table for $30, a nice modern duvet cover for $40 and a wok for $4? However, after owning the coffee table for a year its "finish" is starting to chip off in places. Also, the handle on the wok became lose and I forgot this, but was quickly reminded when I went to pour its contents into a serving bowl and my udon noodle tofu dish spilled out onto the counter and floor. I mean, you get cheap prices but you also get what you pay for, which is cheap products. And is that a real bargain? No. In fact, the contents of my udon dish cost more than the wok itself for Christ's sake. The only thing I bought from Ikea that seems to have been a good buy was my duvet cover. Oh, and my little kid's Japanese style night light that was $12. That thing still works. I simply HATE the layout. It is designed to make people spend more money, as you have to walk through EVERY department through this maze to get to the department you seek, and eventually to the checkout lines. Now, I do love the cafe. Those swedish meatballs are pure comfort food and the price is right. I will return to Ikea for certain things, but when it comes to items where I demand quality (i.e. kitchen items and furniture) I will surely go elsewhere. read more

I was looking for a TV tray, I was told they have them at ikea. I asked the person At The Door.. Says 'Up in X department'.. Almost at the end, so I go backwards.. Hmm not there.. The worst customer service ever. It was my first time to IKEA and though I got was I was looking for; I will never go back . It took me 15 minutes just to find someone to ask a question . It took 45 minutes to find someone to help load a heavy item onto my flat bed cart. When I checked out, the cashier asked, "do you want to buy a reusable bag?" No, I didn't , I have plenty of reusable bags in my car for my groceries. Little did o know , IKEA , doesn't have free shopping bags. Being my first time , how was o to know? I got attitude from the cashier when i questioned, how should I know this policy. Personally, I feel the place was not staffed with enough associates on the floor. I love IKEA! We need this store in Vegas!!!! Holla!!! Everyone talks about it, everybody wants it, so why has it not made it here? Who knows but we all are hopeful. For Vegas peeps this is a must stop when visiting California. I've known people to just make a day trip to visit Ikea and head back all in one day. *the closest Ikea to Vegas I think is about 4 1/2 hours away so that should tell you something. This visit was a quick one. I was looking for a couple tables to fill some spaces in my house but I didn't really find what I had in mind. I did buy a dark wood shelf that attaches diagonally to the wall. That was our biggest purchase $50-it was an awkward fit in our car but somehow we made it work. Another big purchase was the undercounter lighting for our kitchen $50 each and we bought three. I bought a bunch of other little things - potholders, unique shaped platters, square boxes to fit another piece of furniture we bought the last time and a couple gifts etc. The place is clean and organized. We didn't really need any help to know how the service was but the check out went smoothly. Any home store I love but this is the big daddy of all home stores. It has everything for any room of your house-even the outdoors and then some. Everything is affordable and sometimes the quality isn't all that great but I've mostly had great experiences with their product. This store is so big I could literally get lost in this place. Good thing there would be places to sleep, eat and lounge and watch TV. LOL On this visit we didn't eat at the cafeteria nor the hotdog/cinnamon roll stand at check out. It s a shame too but we were in a hurry to get on the road and head home. Everyone raves about the Swedish meatballs which I will have to try sometime. Do NOT go during peak hours. Just don't. If you heed that simple advice, shopping there will be downright pleasant. I don't know why I like being ushered through a very specific maze, practically having decisions made for me. I should hate it. But I love it at IKEA. You get in, navigate the arrows (watch out for the shortcuts!!), end up in a warehouse thing, and before you know it, you're trying to cram $380 worth of furniture and knick-knacks into a Honda Civic while 8 year olds with their parents duck swinging metal rods for paper lamps. A note about the quality. I've bought new, and I've bough secondhand IKEA stuff. Everything I put together suits me just fine and is downright solid. Everything someone else has put together is shaky and wobbly and deserving of the "poor quality" reviews. Am I that lucky? If I could give negative stars I would By far the worst customer service ever. Two employees misinformed me with the wrong products. Upon arriving home the product recommended was not correct. Badly trained staff. They give information about the products with confidence when in reality it is not the correct information. What made matters worst is the manager Courtney who said she was the manager on duty did not handle the situation in a professional matter. As manager she handled it very wrong which now brings me to think how does ikea give someone like Courtney the position to be manager when she didnt know how to handle a customers complaint. She had a rude demeanor first of all and was not willing to even help. Bad customer service from sales associates and bad customer service from the manager? Manager even responded with maybe the person I spoke to was not trained properly?? So why hire them in the first place and put them on the sales floor to help customers if she herself feels they did not train the employees properly. Oh, hate is such a strong word, but I honestly have to say that... ... like Damien, I HATE IKEA, too. One star is what the experience deserves, but they get a second star purely for the fact that they have people on staff who are in charge of green and sustaining issues (although they're not doing so hot given the fact that the furniture doesn't last - news flash, things falling apart = trash = bad for the environment). I hate you for removing the remote order & delivery option, so I can't place my order and get it delivered (unless I pay $400 for an online purchase shipped from a national warehouse). I hate you for the fact that I knew exactly what I wanted (I use "want" in the loosest sense), but still had to go through the freakin' showroom. I hate you for not being able to just have the order at least waiting for me when I get there... and for making little me go into the warehouse to wage war against gigantic boxes of obscure and oddly packed furniture. I hate you for making things impossible to find, and for having a home delivery weight limit (and it didn't even show up in the 4 hour window they said it would). Last, but not least, I hate you because the furniture pieces don't always assemble together correctly (apparently this is a recent problem). If it weren't for the fact that our company already committed to IKEA furnishings prior to my arrival, I'd fire IKEA as our defacto furniture source. IKEA is a place that has been in San Diego forever but out of the loop people such as myself have finally ventured in to see years beyond years after it's been built. The outside storefront looks intimidating with how HUGE this place is.... Upon walking in I'd like to say a 5 star section for the children's ball pit holding area while parents can shop. This ball pit had balls stacked up probably higher than I am tall. That rules. And rhymes. Inside I wanted to run around but was informed that the arrows are meant to carrowl the cattle, I mean customers through the store. I am a big fan of the staged living areas but never quite realized how cheap this furniture is not to mention how awkward it feels to sit in/on. You can score some awesome deals on floating shelves for less than twenty bucks and don't forget your random "Why does IKEA sell lint rollers?" item. I now understand why countless people I have spoken to have had panic attacks upon going through IKEA. I damn near had one with the feeling of being trapped. I think by the time I got to the cooking ware I was ready to dash out the emergency exit door from being suffocated by fine home furnishings. read more

I'm gonna keep this short. IKEA is overwhelming, full of everything you could need A to Z. Their furniture is crap particle board, but everything else is decent, especially for the price. You can even get a decent lunch there and some plants. The most impressive thing about IKEA however is their packaging. Being a European based company, packaging is kept on the minimum. Now, consumers must pay $0.05 a bag if they are to get one. This is the Euro way--reduce package and trash at the source. I am always a fan of intelligent ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. This IKEA location is much smaller than most IKEA's I've been too, but I would have to say their food cafeteria makes up for it. They have an actual area for eating with lots of tables & different options of food besides the meatballs. You can definitely have lunch or dinner here for a cheap price, not the best food, but food that can fill you up while you shop. read more

Came in today to shop with my granddaughter, lady's fake service animal lunges at, barks and tries to bite my granddaughter, employees say "we didn't see it, can't do anything" (three witnesses standing there), talk to manager and get nothing but do-nothing glad-handling. Even better - while talking to manager about this, "do-nothing employee" named Andrew eavesdrops, and when he doesn't appreciate my description, chimes in with his own 'special' attitude saying "you don't want to start with me" (I did - but chose not to). The ambiance sucks, but think of the possibilities! Seriously, there's something not right about this place. Lots of people running around this place, many with loud children (despite there being a nursery when you enter)... narrow passages, roads off to nowhere, people running into each other all the time... and all this euro-chic furniture. If you go at non-peak hours (like at 10 AM or an hour before closing), then it's a lot less confusing. Regardless, once you get past that mess, think of how cool your place back home's gonna look! It shoudn't be a surprise how long (or short) the goods last. A $20 chair is not going to last a lifetime. A $39 table is probably not going to last a lifetime. But it could. If you're going to sit on it multiple times each day, then of course it's not going to last more than two years. If you keep on running into it each day, of course it's not going to last that long. But logic will tell you that if all you do is turn the lamp switch on and off, if all you do is put up a cabinet and use it as the great Ikea intended, it will last you a good while. Plus if you get the urge to redecorate, Ikea makes it really affordable to do so. Warnings/product info are written in just about any language and directions are written in no language. You get pictures of someone putting it together. Which is good enough for me, but I know it's been a source of frustration for others. A word to the wise: of course they advertise how they slash prices on hundreds of items... but I see prices go up on just as many items. if you see a new product that catches your eye, that fits in with your decor, for amazingly low prices... snatch it up. It'll go up once they realize they can charge more for it. Prices'll only go down if a) the item sucked to begin with, or b) so many people now have one that it's gone beyond trendy and just isn't cool anymore. EDIT: This place is only two stars now. Last time I went there I was shocked at how expensive everything's gotten. I know prices have been going up, but just about everything has gone up, some even 100% in the past few years. Example: Just a year ago a pack of 10 batteries was $1.99. Now it's $3.99. Screw this place, it used to be cheap-o prices cheap-o quality cool-looking furniture & home decor. It's Ikea, it's Swedish, it's furniture and it's meatballs. Thank god they have arrows on the floor, or I'd have been lost. Now I know why they have a little cafeteria there, for when you do get lost! It's organized by rooms. Just take a deep breath and walk yourself through till the end. I won't go into the details of the place, you can just read the other 5 million reviews. But you can't really beat Ikea for not the best or worst quality, not the most horribly priced furniture for your budget and modern contemporary furniture needs. There is ALWAYS going to be something in IKEA you want. They do a great job of advertising what a room should look like with their products. It's kind of like those commercials you saw when you were a kid, they made it look so fun to have until you actually brought it home. The quality is really a hit and miss. Either you get a really good price and the quality is superb (like the "build it yourself computer desks") ... or... the price is good but you later find out it breaks too easily (wooden dressers easily to accidentally break and very susceptible to water damage). Like most IKEA's this is an upstairs and downstairs store. It has 2 types of cafe/eateries. 1) is upstairs near the kid section, which has ALL the main foods. Complete with chairs and tables. 2) is by the exit and has quick foods like hot dogs, ice cream (frozen yogurt), cinnamon rolls, pizza and drinks. Only tables that force you to stand and rush you to get the hell out lol. Staff is helpful, but if you need help you will need to go up to someone. They all just assume you know what you are looking for. You'll pass by tons of workers but none will acknowledge you. ***Note*** I bought a computer chair a couple of years ago, around late 2008. The casters for the chairs are tough to move, if at all. Just a fair warning before you decide to get one. read more

I have been going to Ikea for many years, and i feel like it's gotten a lot better. The quality of their things has improved so i am happy! What i am not happy about is their customer service. I asked this lady to price check something for me, and she didn't even say a word, let alone look me in the eye. She was so GRUMPY AND RUDE!!!!!! it's so frustrating when people who clearly don't like helping others work in retail. HELLOOO!! Anyway. The people up front at the registers are a little better but some really have no clue what they are doing. They no longer offer bags, so you have to purchase one, or try and carry your things to the car with both hands, like i did. Boo to their customer service!! read more

You know the economy is bad when the parking lot at Ikea is half empty...at noon....on a Saturday....let alone the Saturday before Christmas. Why do I love Ikea? Let me count the ways. 1) I know their designs are mostly knock offs, but that doesn't eclipse the fact that they have the some pretty swanky stuff. It's (despite being reasonably priced) usually well manufactured. 2) "Some assembly required" is elevated to new heights with Ikea. I personally love putting furniture together, it brings out the manly man in me. 3) Shopping at Ikea is a good way to spend an otherwise boring weekend afternoon. I love showroom shopping. Idea's are constantly popping in and out of my head as I stroll through the aisles. 4) The furniture may be great, but it's the housewares that I really love. I could easily spend my entire paycheck on the bottom floor alone. I love the ceramic dishes, the kitchen utensils, the lamps and lighting and the rugs. 5) You can bring out the interior designer in you, and usually for a really good price. They excel at creating cool living spaces in a relatively small footprint. 6) The upper floor is spring mounted I think, and every time I go there I think there's an earthquake going on. Kinda fun, (boo hiss to those of you that are going to tell me that real earthquakes are no fun, I KNOW) 7) The staff is always friendly and willing to help. PLUS you can actually find them in every department. 8) The entire warehouse smells like cinnamon rolls. 9) You can eat a decent meal there for less than 5 bucks. I am a big fan of the Swedish meatball plate (even though mine are bigger and better). They even have .99 breakfasts with bacon and eggs. Nice to know, usually I get there to late for this. Good coffee too. 10) The bathrooms are spic and span. Is it a coincidence that Ikea and idea are basically the same word? I think not. That's some marketing genius going on there. read more

The good the bad and the ugly. I actually like IKEA and I have been going to this particular one for years. But something was different this time. Especially when it came to visiting the Café upstairs. Day and time: Monday 6pm. GOOD: As a family card holder you get a FREE coffee or tea, nice but wait there's more. BAD: Only if you can find your tea! My hubby and I decided to go for it. So we showed them our card to a young 18 year old with an attitude, in which he never asked which one we wanted coffee or tea. Why was this an important question? Because we were looking up and down and all around for this "tea" and come to find out they are hording it by the register and it was only LIPTON! Seriously folks really? You couldn't splurge a little bit on more "exotic" teas like TAZO, Celestial or Bigelow? Coffee: NO CREAMER. I managed to get a few drops and it ended up tasting sour! I found someone to let them know, she redirected me to the cashier with the tude in which was no help. He did end up filling the creamer but it still tasted sour to me. The "salad" a hand full of iceberg a few tomatoes and slices of carrots, really I have seen better at Elementary School cafeterias. Plate full of nothing: I got the ribs and a small portion of 10 fries and a stale corn bread. The ribs were ok, but here is the kicker. Where are the handy wipes to wipe your hands? They had none! NOPE before they had tons of these available. AND it didn't appear that they even carry them anymore. When I asked the cashier with the tude, he showed me where the bathroom was, down the hall! So, in the meantime I had hands full of BBQ sauce in which I had to wipe with 20 napkins and dip a couple in my water! I would rather go get my 1.00 pizza with soda than eat there again. STORE: Finding someone to help you is like finding cheese in a maze. Where are all the mature people to assist you? I know kids need jobs but seriously folks I need to talk to someone that has a better understanding of what goes into getting a house to look nice. Will go back for the cheap prices and maybe on a weekend where there is more help, but never again to the café. Bring a friend who likes to decorate and a male who can help you get your stuff in the car. But don't rely on these kids to help you. read more

This place was completely packed on a Saturday...ok understandable...I was going to return something and there were like 2 people working the register in returns and parts. The machine said it would be about a 10 min wait. Try like 40 min and then only to get a girl with a complete attitude who didn't even do the return correctly I got shorted like 5 bucks and will probably never get that back. Never again! read more

This IKEA offers a lot. Maybe they're catering to the upper scale San Diego clientele. Give yourself enough time to go through the entire store and if you're getting furniture, be sure and check that you have ALL the pieces to assemble your furniture. Got a few new chairs for a kitchen table. Discovered when we got everything home that two of the bars needed to affix the seat of the chairs to the legs, were missing, of course. As we don't live near IKEA, there was nooo way we were driving our butts back there when they messed up and didn't put the items into the packaging in the first place. I did spend about 40 mins on the phone with the customer service agent who was helpful, but had the hardest time grasping what it was that i needed. He said I'd hear back from their "claims department" (like the situation was an accident that needed handling) in one to two days. Didn't hear squat so I emailed the customer service dept this time. They emailed back the very next day and apologized for the situation. A package from them - delivered Fed Ex - with the missing parts showed up in a few more days. The prompt customer service is much appreciated. It's a long way to drive for their cafeteria, though with all the good reviews of it, maybe we'll make the attempt. Happy shopping. read more
