First Timer? Try one of these!

Before we get too far: Dutch Crunch bread. Always. No question. Just do it. This place is high-risk for me. First of all, their menu is HUUUGE, so I am pretty certain that I would never make it through all of the items on it. Second, there are so many sandwiches that I have tried that I enjoy... that I want to get them again! Some of the locations are a bit sketchy, but this one seemed cleaner than most. There was a line, which tells me that other people have either felt the "love" or had heard about it. My suggestion for your first visit is to look at the sign for first-timers. All of those sandwiches are fantastic, except the 301 and 70... (I don't know about those since I haven't made it to the vegan section.) Of those, though, the 91 (Paul Reuben -- no, there is no "s," which I feel is important for... reasons ) and 111 (Menage a Trois) are two of my favorites. Note, the sandwiches are big enough to share with a friend. (I don't have any friends, so I don't have to fight for the second half of my sandwich) But, if you've got someone to go Dutch, you can share the cost since they're both large and not quite inexpensive. Just go.

I had an appointment nearby and worked up an appetite. I was so happy to see an Ike's! I love Ike's and love that they offer so many vegetarian and vegan options. I was greeted upon entering. The shop is spacious and offers ample indoor seating. I opted for a veggie chicken sandwich, but I don't remember the name. I also ordered two Da Vinci sandwiches for my husband and son. The sandwiches were prepared quickly and carefully. My family and I dug in as soon as I arrived home. The sandwiches were tasty and filling. We would definitely order from here again!

Super clean and Such a great healthy and wholesome fresh sandy. The bbq sauce is a sweet sauce and pairs great with the Swiss cheese. The chicken salad a fresh and halal. All the staff is so kind and patient. Yum yum yum

Delicious! I ordered the Hunter Pence and it was so tasty (Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, Swiss, cheddar, pepper jack, and added lettuce to it)! I loved it! I was particularly impressed with the substantial amount of avocado on it- they didn't skimp on it! The bread was also super tasty. The restaurant itself is just a counter order and is simple like any chain restaurant and the staff were really nice!

I've ordered catering from them several times for my AZ and CO office but this was my first time going in and grabbing something I chose the Paul Reuben and swapped the Swiss for Pepper Jack on Sourdough and it was AMAZING! All of their ingredients were fresh, bread was delicious and that sauce! The staff were all friendly and answered all of my questions. It was very clean inside and their menu is displayed on the wall. Great spot!

    VEGAN Chicken'N NUGGETS

Well, maybe it's user error. I'm not a vegan. So what did I do? Order the vegan chicken nuggets. They piqued my interest. Do they taste like real chicken? How juicy are they? Total fail. These nuggets tasted like what I think those pink erasers would taste like. Thin but somehow chewy, flavorless. The sauces I got on the side were pretty good, so +1 star. Luckily I can just go to Chic Fil A for my fix of real chicken. But, if you're genuinely vegan, don't get these. The beyond ones at the store taste much more like real meat.

Legit sandwich spot that will cha get your life with their Dutch crunch bread. Full transparency, I've eaten at Ike's at least a dozen times and always get their Paul Ruebens sandwich, with vegan dirty sauce and vegan cheese (due to my lovely dairy allergy). This sandwich is so good. Drove by this restaurant on the hunt for Halloween decor, and it was I pleasantly surprised at how clean it and modernized it was inside. This was comparing it to the original shop in SF that I drove out of my way to go to waaayyy back in the day. So awesome to see this brand grow over the years and still maintain their sandwiches over the years. Solid place to dine at for sure! Thank for always being there for my sandwich cravings, and now all throughout the valley!

    Dirty Reuben

Service was bad and didn't make both of the sandwiches we ordered. My wife ended up leaving with just one overpriced sandwich. The "Dirty Reuben" we got was terrible. Both the bread and the dressing make it sweet and gross mess. Perhaps if you like a sweet messy sandwiches this would be for you but i thought it was terrible. It was bad enough to where I couldn't eat it and it caused a fight with my wife. Definitely won't be back.

Vegan sandwich with vegan chicken. I can't remember which one this was, but it was delicious!

I love Ike's for when I'm super hungry and want a big hearty sandwich. There are so many vegan options which I love. I particularly like any sandwich with the vegan chicken. This location is very clean and the service is quick.

    Grand Opening
    Alexandra L.

Ike's had just opened yet another location in AZ!!! Today's visit was their official Grand Opening for the Gilbert location. I've been to their locations in Mesa, Phoenix, Avondale and Queen Creek. The shop originated in San Francisco, and is still privately owned (not a franchise). There is something for EVERYONE AND ANYONE at Ike's. The menu Is EXTENSIVE - steak, roast beef, pastrami, chicken, tuna, FRIED chicken, ham, Turkey... and lots of vegetarian options!! So many sandwich combos that it can be a bit overwhelming to choose. Every sandwich comes with dirty sauce, which is a garlic aioli spread that goes on your bread before being toasted, but you can opt to omit it from your sandwich. You can omit and sub ingredients from any sandwich. I went into the shop yesterday for lunch at around 1:30pm, the day before the Grand opening. It wasn't very busy. But the restaurant was clean, staff pleasant, and they accommodated my order for a sandwich with bread, in a bowl. I learned about the Grand Opening today, and was there early enough to get a free t-shirt and sandwich. There was quite a hefty line out there!! Great to see the support and excitement for the business. They are well known for their Dutch Crunch bread. It's my favorite and recommend it. The first sandwich I ever had at Ike's was the Ménage a Trois, so I get that often. But I've also have the Paul Reuben (which I got today), the Damon Bruce, Name of the Girl I'm Dating. I've never been disappointed. The Gilbert location has 2 exclusive sandwiches - the Bobby Gilbert and the Hay Hay Hay. If you've never been to Ike's try them out!

I ordered a 6 inch frensh dip and their bowl of clam chowder, all to go. Driving home with my to go order was torture! My entire car smelled like bread that just came out of the oven!!! The French dip was delicious! The shop provides a giant cup of Au Jus with the sandwhich, there is no way you are going to use it all! The sandwhich was well belanced with the meat and cheese, and the flavors were a great combination. The sourdough bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely recommend checking out this sandwhich. The bowl of clam chowder is the reason I know I will be consistently coming back to this shop. As a clam chowder snob, I am obsessed! The portions of ingredients were great, not too many of one ingredient. The soup was creamy but not thick like glue, great consistency! The cut sizes for the potato and clams were great and you could easily see the clams in the soup. It was phenomenal!!! I beyond recommend checking out Sourdough & Co.

I didn't think much of it at first, but then I watched the owner heat the pastrami in the microwave before assembling the sandwich. I've never had a deli sandwich prepared that way right in front of me, and it was disappointing. She also pulled out a large bag of Taylor Farms shredded lettuce. I asked for no lettuce, and she joked that "people don't want lettuce anymore." Given the recent news surrounding Taylor Farms, that comment didn't exactly inspire confidence. What really surprised me was that the pastrami was placed in a plastic basket and microwaved. Whether or not it's considered safe, seeing food heated that way wasn't very appetizing. Looking around, there also didn't appear to be any real kitchen equipment for preparing hot sandwiches beyond a microwave. A Blackstone griddle or even a quality countertop oven would have inspired much more confidence in the food, especially considering the owner's Yelp responses emphasizing the quality of their sandwiches. From what I experienced, the preparation didn't match those claims. In the end, we ordered just one pastrami sandwich and one beer, and the total came to about $25, with the sandwich alone costing over $17. For that price, I expected much better ingredients and preparation. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the cost. We tried to be as nice as possible but we left feeling pretty disappointed and couldn't wait to get out of there.
