Price and quality did not match I ordered the pastrami sandwich and immediately noticed some cost cutting choices, like butter flavored spray (can we use real butter) US Foods/Chef's Store sourdough bread, (can we use real sourdough bread) and a microwave sitting next to the griddle (which the griddle looks like it has not been cleaned very often). I didn't think much of it at first, but then I watched the owner heat the pastrami in the microwave before assembling the sandwich. I've never had a deli sandwich prepared that way right in front of me, and it was disappointing. She also pulled out a large bag of Taylor Farms shredded lettuce. I asked for no lettuce, and she joked that "people don't want lettuce anymore." Given the recent news surrounding Taylor Farms, that comment didn't exactly inspire confidence. What really surprised me was that the pastrami was placed in a plastic basket and microwaved. Whether or not it's considered safe, seeing food heated that way wasn't very appetizing. Looking around, there also didn't appear to be any real kitchen equipment for preparing hot sandwiches beyond a microwave. A Blackstone griddle or even a quality countertop oven would have inspired much more confidence in the food, especially considering the owner's Yelp responses emphasizing the quality of their sandwiches. From what I experienced, the preparation didn't match those claims. In the end, we ordered just one pastrami sandwich and one beer, and the total came to about $25, with the sandwich alone costing over $17. For that price, I expected much better ingredients and preparation. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the cost. We tried to be as nice as possible but we left feeling pretty disappointed and couldn't wait to get out of there. read more

I was killing time in Chandler when lunch time approached and getting a sandwich was on my brain. Thanks to the Yelp app, I was able to find Retro's Subs & Brews and it seemed like the perfect spot to cure my itch. I was super stoked to check a place with "retro" in the name out, and I gotta be honest here, I left with pretty mixed emotions about a lot of things. The restaurant itself is pretty boring inside, mostly just being black with a few small pictures hanging up. I was kind of expecting big retro movie posters or something hanging around, but I definitely didn't get much of a retro vibe from this place minus a small neon "bar" sign and a claw machine in the corner. The menus were very cool, right by the front door its a record shelf and the records were the menus, so thumbs up for that idea. I thought i was mistaken, but I don't remember seeing sandwich prices on the actual menu, but as I look at other photos on yelp it does appear that the sandwiches don't have prices attached to them, which explains why I was thrown off by the end price. I settled on ordering the "take on me" which was black forest ham, roasted turkey, hickory smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and mayo on a Hawaiian style roll. I also ordered a sprite and a chocolate chip cookie as a side. The chocolate chip cookie was okay, pretty standard cookie though definitely not worth $3.75. The sprite was $2.99, and the sandwich came to $15.58. I was also charged $0.96 for something called the advantage program which I have no idea what that is. I gotta say, spending over $25 on a sandwich, a small cookie, and a drink is not something I would care to do at a place like this. The sandwich itself was very good, I won't deny that. The meat tasted fresh, and when it was all together it was definitely a good sandwich, but when there's not combo option and a basic sandwich, cookie, and drink ends up being $25 it's gonna be a no from me on returning in the future. Overall, I really wanted to love this place for the name, but the lack of much decorations and prices left something to be desired. The food itself was good, but not worth what was spent. read more

Came in on a weekday with a friend and we ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 sodas. The total was over $40. The ingredient quality is very Sysco level and the sandwiches should probably cost around $9 as opposed to $17.50. They're square sandwich bread sized; we're not talking footlongs or subs here. That price is honestly a bit ridiculous. The idea of a music and record-themed restaurant is cool in itself but this place feels like it's half-completed and they just opened anyways. Lots of exposed wires and very interesting design choices. Owner was very nice but I would be very surprised if this place makes it past 2026 without some significant changes. read more

Came in here in the middle of the day on a Saturday, I saw this place a few weeks ago on Yelp and had to bookmark for the next time I was in this area. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch and we saw a ton of pictures of the yellow submarine on their yelp page and we knew that that was going to be the sandwich we were going to get. This has all of the signs of a family owned mom and Pop sandwich shop.. there was one woman working behind the counter, running the register and making the sandwiches one at a time. We ordered the yellow submarine on French bread and we got it not toasted . We shared our sandwich and typically we do not share sandwiches, but we noticed that this one was pretty big. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The sandwich bun was incredibly fresh and soft loaded up with lots of meat and half of a sandwich definitely filled me up, but I know my husband was still a little bit hungry. Overall sandwich was very tasty. The sandwich was $17.50. That is why my review is for four stars and not five. I can go anywhere else in the valley and get a great sandwich for less than $$17.50, I know that many will share so that is why the 17.50 might look good... But for a sandwich with deli meat, mustard, and mayo I would hoped that the sandwich would've been a little bit less. I don't think this would be as much as a shock if the prices of their food was on the menu and you also don't have to pay for your food until after your sandwich is eaten so I feel like if there was a little more transparency about pricing it might've had to leave the restaurant with a better taste in our mouth. Overall, the food was good. The ambience was very Blah . This restaurant has a great concept, a great potential vibe and I understand they probably have to have high priced items to keep them open. read more

Convenient location with easy access and ample parking. Menus are on a rack located near the entrance. Grab one of those as soon as you walk in and you can take a seat at a table or the counter. The owners are super nice and always welcoming when we come in. The menu offers numerous tasty options. And they'll modify the sandwiches to your preference too. And let me tell you, those sandwiches are huge. Loaded with meat, not a lot of fluff. The toppings are fresh. The bread is fresh. The balance between bread, meat, veggies, and dressings delivers some delicious bites. And they pack a lot of meat on each sandwich, often times leaving me with 1/2 of a sandwich to eat later. No complaints here. The restaurant is very relaxed and open. There are assorted tables along with stools lined up at the counter. Television above bar playing sports. I've never been here during the busiest time of day so generally it's not too loud and it's easy to hold a conversation with your party or the owners. If I had the choice, I would always eat my sandwiches the way they make them here. They're just so darn good. Oh, but I do think they need a PB&J, on raisin bread or Brioche, with cream cheese, or bananas or apples, and marshmallows, and maybe grilled... added to their menu. Or how about a grilled cheese? Stopped by Retro Subs & Brews in Chandler and I had to try the Take On Me sandwich the name alone sold me. The sandwich was really well balanced. The Hawaiian rolls add a little sweetness that pairs nicely with the salty bacon and ham, and the turkey keeps it from feeling too heavy. Everything tasted fresh and the textures worked well together. At $17.50 it's not cheap, but the portion was solid and filling. Overall it was a really good sandwich. It's open seating, and when we went there was just one worker there with her mom helping out. She was super nice and even brought us water, which made the experience feel really welcoming. read more

I was craving a good f*****g sandwich, one that isn't so crazy fancy but not something I could make at home, and I got it here. I drove 20 minutes to get here because the pictures just looked too good, and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. I got the "What a Girl Wants" sandwich (no sides) and it was so, so good. And hefty! The pics don't lie. These sandwiches are stacked. The menus look like vinyl records, which is so fun and different. The menu itself isn't very big, which is nice honestly. Keepin' it simple and interesting and tasty. Service was good. We were greeted and informed of where the menus were, but the two people working (presumably the owners, didn't ask) were busy crafting the sandwiches until they were able to get to a spot where they could ring us up. Which, as an ex-food service person, I ain't mad about that. They're busy. They care about the product they're putting out. I don't need (nor really want) small talk. But I did see one of the workers have a lovely interaction with another customer, which is always nice. There were a good amount of tables and chairs, if that's your thing. And even a small child-friendly area with kids cartoons on the tv and fun colored decor. I'm pretty sure this is a newer establishment, and I truly hope it lasts. We were really craving a sandwich so we tried this place since we'd never been there. We walked in and there is one person behind the counter. She was friendly and told us to sit where we wanted. She told us they were out of pastrami which was unfortunate because there were quite a few sandwiches that had pastrami. It took forever to get our drinks, one Pepsi and a water. There are no soda guns. The Pepsi came from a can which came from a case of soda on the floor. There are also no prices on the menu which we thought was odd. The only price was 2.99 for the smallest bag of chips I've ever seen. My sandwich had bacon on it that the menu described as hickory smoked. No it wasn't. It was microwaved and disgusting so I immediate took it off. The sandwiches were underwhelming at best. When I went to pay the total was $38.86 for 2 average sized sandwiches, 1 tiny bag of chips and a can of soda. I have no idea how this place has been open for 3 years but I cannot imagine it will be open for 3 more. read more

Stumbled upon this place driving down Warner. I'm always looking for a non chain sandwich joint, so this spot intrigued me. It's super spacious and clean. The menus replicate vinyl records. Super cute! The sandwiches are all named after popular songs. I ordered the yellow submarine and it was Incredible!!! You can tell love was put into making that Sammie!! They are HUGE! Unique sandwich shop in the Palm Court center. My family and I stopped by for lunch. The sandwiches are fan-freakin-tastic!!! My husband wants me to make sure I include the phase, "Peak Sandwich"- there it is. He recently had an underwhelming sandwich at another sandwich "Hut". We were promptly greeted and told where to find menus. We sat down and everyone picked about 2 sandwiches they wanted. We narrowed it down to the New York New York, What a girl wants and The Boss. All of them were great. They modified my daughter's to not have cheese and unheated the way she likes, but she ended up really liking mine and my husband's choices. We were surprised. She might get her sandwich toasted next time. It's a very clean restaurant and many seating choices like low top tables, high top, and stools at the bar. My husband had a Wow Wheat hef beer with his order and really enjoyed it. There was a fresh made lemonade stand inside too so my daughter had a mango lemonade and what little she was willing to share with me was tasty- not too sweet or overly tart.
