Disclaimer: the first two times I came here would merit 5 stars, the third time alone cost my rating the three stars due to service. The pizza here is to die for. I consider myself a pizza connoisseur, with a sweet spot for brick oven pizza like this. The crust is perfect: crisp then soft. The toppings, cheese and sausage are balanced so that one does not overpower the others. You can even watch them toss your dough and cook your pizza while you wait! Back to the service. Two times were lovely. The waitress was friendly, attentive and fixed an order error no problem. The third time, we had a male waiter who spent probably half an hour in the back. Not only was our service crappy, but he completely missed a table that came in and left after 20 minutes of not being greeted at all. Even worse, one of the cooks was blatantly staring at my date almost the entire time we were there. I would have had a serious problem with him, but for his age (looked like could not have been 16). We changed seats and it subsided, and about 40 minutes into our visit the usual waitress started her shift and the service got better. read more

I totally stumbled upon this place. What a awesome mistake. I was in somewhat of a hurry so when the server discussed the different specialties, I went for the one that took less time to prepare. I ended up trying the tenderloin. It was delicious and the special sauce was very tasty as well. This is somewhat of a dive joint BUT the inside is well done and clean. There are a lot of nice touches to make it look impressive. I will definitely come back when I have more time as I am excited to try a pizza and heard the wings are excellent as well. read more

I was the first customer of the day. Ordered my pizza at 11:10am and finally got my pizza around 12:05pm. While I waited I watched the guy do everything but make my pizza. Then when he finally started it was 30mins before it was on the table. When it arrived the ingredients were fresh but there was no seasonings to bring it all together. Bland. Also had a great side salad with house made blue cheese dressing. It's very hidden so hopefully people will find it by word of mouth. I've driven past it regularly for 4 months and didn't know it was even there. The waitress was very attentive, clean and open dining area and you can watch the cook throw and spin your crust. This was another great Yelp find. We just moved to KC from California, and needed to find the new pizza place. Just a couple of provisos. 1) We are pizza snobs. B) We have unrealistically high expectations. And 4) 9/11 was not an inside job. Anyway, we ambitiously ordered about half of the pizza menu, starting with the kaleidoscope. It sounded like a gimmick, and I was skeptical. After all, making a pizza featuring something different on every slice is ambitious. Lots of ways for that to go wrong... But Ikey, whoever he is, isn't stupid. Because they don't overdo the toppings on their pizzas, it actually works. Anyway, my favorite was the Ikey, although the Mikey is also solid. My wife liked the Greek. I wouldn't know because I draw the line at kalamata olives on a pizza. Just....no. We've since been back, and it might have been even better the second time around. We got the same server both times, and he is a winner. He brought a big lump of pizza dough on a pizza pan for me....errr, my 5yo to play with. Never seen that before. Great move. We recently moved to the area and have eaten at Ikey's twice. We had a good experience both visits. We like the casual, family friendly atmosphere. The service is very good. Servers were polite and friendly. They came back to check on us, refilled drinks, etc. On the most recent visit, our server brought pizza dough to our table for my son to play with. Very cool. The pizzas are hand tossed. Crust is soft and chewy. The menu has a good variety. They have a pizza called the Kaleidoscope -- each slice is different. Best pizza I've had in Kansas City. Don't let the exterior fool you. Inside is warm and cozy with an open pizza oven and prep area. It is fun to watch them hand toss the dough. The ending result is a thin, east-coast style flavorful crust with the perfect amount of chewiness. I get my pies without cheese, so a good sauce makes or breaks my meal. This is by far the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Like my entire life!! My fam and I went on a Friday (during Lent) so you know what that means?!?! No meat! No problem. Ikey's was perfect! We had the Northlander (mushroom pizza) and it was phenomenal. Start your adventure with fried mushrooms, the ranch was yum. The pizza is cooked in a custom brick oven which meant for perfectly cooked pizza. The fresh ingredients used is totally obvious. You can taste it in every bite. The atmosphere is awesome. We ordered pizza for the four of us. (We have two swimmers, so needed two pizzas.) We had the Ikey's and it did not disappoint! Our waitress suggested the gumbo, so we sampled a small cup. Was super excited to check out new pizza opportunities now thst I live in the Northland. Was in Gladstone and Ikey's fit the bill because the reviews said it was great. The reviews couldn't have been more wrong. Walked in at noon on a Saturday and we were the only customers. Guy in back told us to sit anywhere so we picked a spot by the open garage door at the front. He took his time getting our drink order but after a few minutes, managed to make his way up to us. After taking our drink order another couple walked in and said they had a to go order. He told them just a minute. I thought it was because he was getting our drinks. Nope. I really don't know what he was doing. A few minutes went by and he took their order. Then he went on to make them a salad. Meanwhile my gf and I are sitting and waiting. Close to 10 minutes went by and nothing, so we got up and walked out. No way I would go back to a place that has such terrible customer service. How you can neglect the only dine in customers in your restaurant is beyond me. We went down the road to Leo's instead. I suggest you do the same. read more

Think Sbarro, but way better. Wait, does Kansas City have Sbarro? No, it doesn't. Okay...I'm not sure what to compare it to. It's New York style. Big slices, thinner crust, greasy, floppy. Seems to be one-of-a-kind in the Kansas City area. The menu is fairly interesting, with a modest variety of robust pizzas. It appears they have a standard size of 14 inches, as the menu doesn't allude to different sizes and they didn't ask what size I wanted when I called in the order. We went with the Mikey's and an order of cheese bread; the Mikey's is the Meat Lover's equivalent. A bit greasy for my personal taste, but a nice, zesty flavor. The cheese bread was meh, but the accompanying marinara sauce might be the best I've ever had. It was such a classic flavor, and not too thick. Honestly, I don't have much to say other than: (1) it's probably the second best pizza I've tried in Kansas City after Minsky's, and (2) that was a lot of talk about sizes and meat loving and floppiness without a "That's What She Said" joke. So yummy! I went with a friend who had seen their reviews and wanted to give it a try. We had the Greek salad which was perfection between the red onion, feta, tiny bits of cucumber, and house made dressing. We also split a Mikey ' s pizza. We chose it because it had a mix of five Italian meats. The crust was wonderfully thin which allowed us to be able to eat such a meaty pizza without feeling overstuffed or uncomfortable - it also allowed the flavor of the meats to be the star of the pizza. They are also active in the community and love animals, and that says a lot about the owners and staff. Dig the heavy wooden tables and the laid-back lighting. Ikey's is a great place to get into my groove and read or work on my novel by day or cut loose at night when there's a more boisterous crowd. And the food! The brick oven finishes amazing, hand-tossed pies. My favorite is the margherita, but they do a variety of specialty pies or made-to-order ones. The only other pie in Kansas City that compares is at Cellar & Loft up in Kearney. What a great place! We stopped there to celebrate Valentines dinner (Relax, we've been married 28 years ;) ). The brick oven pizza was amazing. We split a pizza with half Gladstoner and half Mikey's. Really loved the ambiance, wished we were dining in, great neighborhood vibe. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The Bronx pizza was good. The specialty, Four Seasons, was alright, maybe little undercooked, not quite composed, and not exactly rich with toppings. The cheese sticks were forgettable over cooked Sysco fare. I saw Ikey's Pizzeria in one of the coupon books that fill up our mailboxes so I decided to check them out. I ordered the Mikey and 4x wings with ranch. The pizza is a keeper if you are a fan of thin, hand tossed, brick oven, NYC style pizza. I loved the crust! I usually don't eat any crust...just the pizza and leave the crust ends as scraps...I tore those ends up! The meat was good, which was pepperoni, ITL sausage and other meat. The wings were decent. I don't know, after eating Minsky's wings it has been hard to judge wings that are char-grilled. The flavor was good and no issues with them being undercooked or overcooked. Ikey's is some of the better pizza I've had in KC. It's a bit on the greasy side, but the thinner crust is definitely representative of New York Style pizza. We got the Mikey, which had plenty of toppings. We also got the cheese bread, which is essentially a cheese pizza without the pizza sauce. It wasn't anything special, but I loved the marinara sauce that came with it. We were plenty full after just half the pizza and half the cheese bread between the two of us, and we were starving beforehand. We did do carryout, but my boyfriend tells me that the staff were very personable when he went to pick up the food. I would like to try their calzones sometime, as it looks delicious, and I need some more of that marinara sauce.
