I'm a coach at UFC Gym, and I love what I do there. I workout at Ikon Strength because it's closer to home and gives me the opportunity to focus on technical lifts in a different training environment. As a full-time mom and coach, finding time and motivation isn't always easy. I need the accountability of scheduled classes and I love that I can even bring my baby with me. I'm also a little competitive, so I love the supportive community and how everyone encourages each other to be better. Reno, the head coach for the Sweat classes, does an AMAZING job of challenging everyone while making sure our form stays on point. He genuinely cares about everyone who walks through the door, teaches proper technique, and modifies movements when needed. I always leave feeling stronger than when I walked in. Joining IKON is definitely one of the best decisions I made this past year. I've had previous experience with CrossFit at a different gym but nothing compares to the coaching with the SWEAT program. I was SO SCARED of the gym, but now I feel right at home! I've been doing personal training with Erickson for four months now, and I cannot recommend him enough. I was starting from zero, I had not gone to the gym in almost a decade, could barely do a lunge or squat my own body weight. Erickson did a thorough initial evaluation of my physical limitations and asked me about my goals, and set me up on a plan of personalized training. I've had so much fun getting stronger, feeling more confident in my strength, and I feel great! Started out twice a week, but I'm hooked now and going three times a week. I've referred friends and family, they've started training with him as well. He's flexible with his schedule and his rates are very reasonable. Erickson has a great way of explaining movements and lifts in a way that keeps you safe without over complicating things. He offers a complimentary intro session to see if it's a good fit. Truly cannot say enough good things. The gym itself (Ikon) is great, lots of lifting equipment, clean, and the owners are very pleasant to chat with. The owners and head coach are welcoming and very knowledgeable in fitness as well as accommodating previous injuries to help hit your goals. I started here in Dec of 2024. As someone who had not been to the gym in many years (at least 8) and had very high gym anxiety, I was originally very frightened of a new place. But my friend highly recommended Eirikson and IKON to try out. Erikson did a full physical assessment and walked me through a plan for my first intro session. He really took the time to assess my strengths and weaknesses before I picked up any equipment. He is so calm and patient with me, even when I was scared. When I first started, I could barely do a squat. He breaks everything down in a way that is so easy to understand (even for my ADHD brain). I went from a single intro session to three times a week, and I'm totally hooked now. I feel so accomplished after every session and literally harass my family weekly about how much I can lift now. Coaches James and Nick absolutely know what they're doing when it comes to teaching olympic lifting. My background is in strength training/powerlifting (without any oly or Crossfit experience) and they have been great in being patient with teaching me the lifts. Both have their USAW (USA Weightlifting) certification, which is an important thing to consider if you are looking to learn olympic lifting from a coach. Another way you can tell that they know what they're doing in coaching is that they can thoroughly tell you WHY you need to complete a movement in a certain way. They prioritize technique over numbers, which is sooooo important. Furthermore, they were easily able to identify my weaknesses as a lifter and are creating an individualized program according to my strengths and weaknesses. They've taken the time to invest in GREAT equipment - Rogue racks and bumper plates, yokes, etc. They also make it a point to keep the gym clean and have you wipe down the equipment, which is something you will not find in a commercial gym. If you're looking to dive into the sport of olympic lifting, this is the gym to do it. It can be intimidating learning these lifts, but both coaches have been excellent in breaking down the movements. read more

Been going there since August 2023 (4-5 months). Doing their Sweat program (CrossFit-like) courses. They extended their days which gave me some flexibility with my workout schedule. All sessions have been awesome. Coaches have also been great (Zack and Reno) and assisting us greatly with our performance and improving on technique. My performance has improved a lot. I started my journey with Ikon about 2 Months ago when I felt purposeless in my fitness journey. The second I stepped foot at IKON I knew it was the one for me. Never have I felt more support from a trainer then I have with Nick and James. The difference in technique, strength and confidence was noticeable in a short amount of time. I decided to join IKON in April of 2022, this hidden gem of a gym has exceeded all my expectations. I entered this gym with a torn ACL and Meniscus and little to no hope of being able to accomplish anything with my little to no mobility at the time. I looked into IKON because I craved structure, proper training and just overall someone who cares about your well being and journey, something I failed to find at larger more common gyms. I definitely found that at IKON, with James and the rest of the great athletes working out here. Within a couple of months the custom program James made for me strengthened my knee, I am able to squat deep and have had no issues with my knee since joining. I am benching, squatting and deadlifting numbers I never even imagined I could. It's pretty crazy to see and think of where I was when I first started to now. I have been a member of IKON for the last two months, and it's been a great experience. At first, I was unsure about moving from a regular weightlifting gym since I had never tried CrossFit before. However, this place has been fantastic. The coaches focus on their clients, almost providing personal training. Gus, Reno, and Faye have a positive and encouraging attitude, along with years of experience in coaching. What I really appreciate about IKON is the positive atmosphere and inclusiveness. They help you work towards your personal goals, which is an amazing aspect of the gym. Their expertise has guided me through past injuries and strengthened weak areas. Since I wasn't involved in CrossFit before, I didn't realize how many stabilizing muscles I lacked and the strength issues I had in certain positions. Im fairly experienced with a traditional gym environment (10+ years). However, I'm very new to Olympic lifting (like totally a newb lol).. thankfully though Nick and James are very patient and so helpful with members at every stage I consistently notice (overhear) them give feedback according to the relative experience of individual member(s), which is super settling for me bc Oly lifting can definitely seem intimidating... at least it was for me at first. Hands down my favorite weightlifting gym in SoCal. I joined IKON initially as a remote athlete a year ago after searching for a weightlifting gym nearby that I could drop into when I was in town. I was drawn to how welcoming the coaches and members were, and how attentive the coaches are with their athletes. After about a week of drop-ins, I changed coaches and never looked back! James is truly an amazing Olympic weightlifting coach, with an attention to detail and immense knowledge about the sport and exercise performance that is guaranteed to make you stronger and more technically efficient in the Olympic lifts. He's really great at tailoring programming to the athlete's needs, and exceptional with giving effective cues on the platform to help you maximize your lifts and lifting potential. I joined a couple of months ago, and this place is by far more than a gym. Nick and James are both such talented Coaches and they're desire to help you become a better person and athlete is contagious. Having them design a specific personalized program to your goals has to be one of the best parts. They're there every step of the way to make any questionable move or work out easy for me to understand. Having a bit of a background in CrossFit, I came in with some injuries that were always felt after works outs, but having them monitor and fix my form has helped me so much that now, I'm injury free. They helped me stay on track with my nutrition and I've lost about 35 lbs so far, this is just more than a "good workout" it's chiseling you become a better YOU in all aspects. IKON has the best athletes in the Southbay and everyone there is super friendly and ready to lend a hand. Ive never been intimidated or uncomfortable unlike most gyms. I have been seeing James for over 6 months now. I have been suffering from chronic low back pain despite 2 back surgeries and extensive physical therapy. I also developed right shoulder impingement over 1 year ago with persistent pain and limited range of motion. Since I have been seeing James my back pain and shoulder pain have markedly improved with deep tissue work and stretching. I wasn't able to sit for more than one hour without pain but now I am able to sit without pain for hours at a time. With the improvement in my shoulder I have been able to return to my usual training with the machines and bench pressing. My quality of life is so much better since I started seeing James. read more
