I have walked by this beautiful restaurant so many times and I finally had the opportunity to try Il Chianti. The al fresco dining area is lush and romantic but the inside is much larger than I expected and it is super cozy and cool. I loved the wine vibe in both the resultant and wine bar. My wine, meal, ambience where fabulous. I loved the cool jazz. Service could have been a little more attentive but you are allowed to dine at a relaxed pace and the service is very friendly, hospitable, and professional. Reservations advised for dinner. This cute little restaurant is walking distance from the Trevi Fountain. After a long day of sight-seeing we just wanted to eat. Found this place and came here before the dinner rush. We were seated outside and it was so cute, with their dangling lights. We were seated right away but it took away to get our order in. It looked busy, but I don't know. Maybe I was starving. I ordered the carbonara and I have no complaints abut that. I devoured the entire thing. There was a charge for dining there, unfortunately. The service was really good and we were seated immediately. The food was fantastic! We got the meat try as an appetizer and spaghetti for the main course. Everything was delicious and the restaurant was just around the corner from the trevi fountain. The down side: we got our bill and the charged us for the bread they brought us at the beginning and the water! Definitely one of my favorite restaurant in Rome! You must try the meat and cheese plate with their homemade jam! They also have THE BEST pasta carbonara! Il Chianti is beautiful and inviting, with great service and excellent food... doesn't get any better than this. And in a neighborhood just around from Trevi fountain. The wait time might be a bit long but worth it. The carbornara and raviolis were the clear winners of our meal. A block from the Trevi Fountain. We wanted to stop at a nice restaurant while in Rome but the main night for it was New Year's Eve. We knew a late supper would be hard to get a table so we did a really late lunch/early supper here and got a seat without a reservation and maybe a 10 minute wait. It took a while for all of the food to come out, which seems to be typical for Rome. The food was sooooo good. We got an appetizer, each had some pasta and then I got the filet and my wife had the veal. My wife also had some wine. Our waiter was pretty slammed but he was very friendly and helpful when we saw him. The pasta was great. My filet was very large and might have been the best I have ever had. My wife's veal was also delicious. They have a very large menu. I highly Highly recommend this place, but I say try to come outside of busy Rome eating times. Warning to Americans, as with all Rome restaurants we went to, you have to ask for the bill/check as they do not automatically bring it out. They also had wifi, which was great. read more

Il Chianti was probably my favorite meal in Rome. We went on a Monday night around 9 (prime dining hours in Italy) and were seated within 10 minutes. However, the line got a lot longer just after we arrived. They do take reservations though! Once we were seated, service was indeed slow by American standards, but this is not uncommon in Italy. The food was fantastic and locals eat here as well, which is always a great sign. I ordered the Gnocchi and my fiancé the mushroom pasta. Both were amazing. I would venture to say this was the best Gnocchi I had in all of Italy. The house wine was expensive in comparison to most other places we dined (6 euro), but otherwise fantastic. Lastly, we ordered Tiramisu. The portion was a perfect size. The espresso taste was very powerful, which was great for us, but may not be preferred by some. read more

This is one of the best restaurants in the "touristy" part of Rome. They were very accommodating of our in prompt arrival at the height of the dinner hour. They have a well-designed service system that utilizes a primary server and a person that services the table during the meal. We had the Caprese salad for our appetizer; two pasta courses, carbonara and fungi pasta; and the Tuscan salad to split. The highlight of the meal was the Caprese salad and the highlight of that was the cheese the best fresh mozzarella cheese I have ever eaten! The two pasta dishes, while nicely seasoned, were served with overcooked pasta (perhaps they cater to tourist tastes). When I pointed this out to the server, he apologized and indicated that this was caused by the time cycle of the dinner hour; however, did not offer to make any adjustment to our bill or to slip in a complementary drink or dessert. The Tuscan salad was good but unremarkable (ribbons of lettuce, diced peppers, and anchovies with oil and balsamic spray on the side). One of the other tables was having a thick-cut Tuscan T-bone, which looked pretty tempting. Just what I was looking for when I came to Italy. Spectacular fresh, handmade pasta. Amazing Carbonara, awesome Cacio e Pepe, Bolognese ragu stepping outside your comfort zone and finding the rabbit is amazing too, wow! One of our best meals in Rome over the course of our holiday! It was our last night and, looking for something a little bit special, we decided to head into Il Chianti. The lady behind the counter when we arrived wasn't very friendly at all, tutting slightly when we said we hadn't reserved a table, but someone else soon came along and showed us to a table tucked right into the corner of the restaurant. The perfect people watching table! Service here was slightly panicked to start with - it was very busy on arrival and, as soon as we had our wine and bread, I was happy to take in the atmosphere! We had a perfectly chilled bottle of pinot grigio and two types of bread on the table, a standard baguette and some crispy bread with herbs & oil. This was probably the first time we had a starter across the holiday, and it was an excellent decision. A huge ball of creamy mozzarella with salty Tuscan ham. This is a starter that needs sharing! Very well balanced. I had the wild boar ragu with pappardelle, topped with some parmesan which was provided in a small bowl. The ragu itself was sweet and rich, complimenting the al dente pasta without overpowering it. I couldn't quite finish it but how I wish I did! We had no room for dessert but the bill came with a few shortbread biscuits and two slices of the delicious jam tart which was displayed near the entrance. No wonder people on Yelp love them. This is such a gem! There are tables outside as well as inside the restaurant. We went at lunch and it was packed. The tables are close together and it feels intimate and cozy. Come here if you are around the Trevi fountain area and the line to Piccolo Buco wraps around the block all the way to Florence. It's a deceptively big restaurant, with multiple rooms and a downstairs area, so the wait shouldn't be too long even in prime hours. There is an English menu but the staff all spoke English, and the patrons are mostly tourists. Had meat/cheese plate that was plentiful and excellent. House wine was cheap and good. Here is where I had my first bite of the famed cacio e pepe, and it certainly was an acquired taste. Cheesy and peppery, yes, but the pasta was on the thick side and almost tough. This may be what it's supposed to taste like but definitely not something I would gravitate toward. On the other hand, the fettuccine with mushroom was very good. The neighboring tables had great looking pizzas and the steak looked legit as well. This would be an excellent choice for dinner around Trevi. read more

Me and my partner were treated like 3rd class humans, didn't offer us water or anything after 15+ minutes of waiting even though 5 waiters passed our table.
