This is a small restaurant that's hard to navigate inside but more than makes up in the quality of food. The outside seating is lot more spacious but the sea of humanity going to or from Trevi Fountain makes it difficult to have a peaceful meal and enjoy the company of your group. We were promptly seated and given a basket of various breads, all of them spectacular. My wife ordered a meatball peas and with chef's special sauce. I got ravioli with spinach and ricotta cheese. Both dishes were flavorful. The pasta was clearly freshly made and just melted in my mouth. The postion sizes were generous. Nonetheless, after a long day walking close to 10 miles we felt we could afford to indulge in a dessert. We asked for a recommendation from our waitress. It seems every restaurant in Rome prides in their tiramisu so once again we got a recommendation to try their tiramisu! For the third time in three days we ate tiramisu. Hands down, this one was the best of the three. The coffee liquer they used was strong and flavorful; the cream very fluffy. There are a lot of restaurants in this area but this one looked more appealing to us than some of the others. We went in and were seated right away. The place filled up about 15 minutes later. Our timing was good. Our party of 3 ordered the pork shank and mash potato, the gnocchetti with tomato sauce and basil and a tomato, ham and mushroom pizza. We also ordered a salad for the table. The service was a little slow as the place filled up and the servers were probably overwhelmed by the sudden rush. The pizza and gnocchetti were good but the pork shank was nothing special. My family and I decided to share everything tonight as we knew we wanted to get the t-bone steak. We started the evening with some cheese and cured meats. The selection was really great and were very well paired together. It was nice to try different flavours and types of meats and cheese. Next we had their bucatini, which was very delicious and very well flavoured. It was a really good pasta dish. When the t-bone steak came, we were all so excited! But unfortunately, it was just ok. Overall it took 1.5 hours to receive all food. It took 15 minutes just to get water. We ordered the pumpkin ravioli which was incredible which is why this review gives this place one star. We also ordered margarita pizza. It has no tomatoes cut on top and no basil. It is literally just eat cheese pizza. It tasted awful. We each tried a slice and sent the pizza back and they still requested that we pay for the pizza. The last time you ordered was the 1kg t bone steak. It was like cutting a leather belt with a butter knife. Almost entirely inedible. I would never come back. Bad service, two strikes on lousy food. This is not a place to stop by. Great restaurant, located in the close to the Trevi Fountain. When walking thru this little streets there are plenty of restaurants along the way but this one stood out a little more because of the outside light decor. There are outside tables as well as indoor. There was about an hour wait time but they accomodate customers as quickly as they can. We sat inside and it's very big inside the restaurant. We started off with the Minestrone Toscano, my goodness was that delicious!!! We had order a side of Breadwhich was 3 Euros but it was fresh and it went to well with our soup. I still think about that soup to this day. I also had a couple of glasses of wine which were refreshing. For our main dishes I had the Ravioli and my son had the Bicchiere food was great overall I can't wait to go back to Rome. For our entire dinner it was 54.00 Euros I expected more. Have you ever loved a restaurant so much that you have seriously considered moving to another country and into an apartment within a 5 minute walking distance of it? If so, then you will understand how I feel about Il Chianti. This place is the real deal, the best of the best, the real MVP. I had my first Il Chianti experience during my first trip to Rome. In the past, I have traveled to Southern Italy, but I never did any of the touristy things. For this reason, I was excited to visit the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and all of the other must-sees. I was not, however, interested in eating at any touristy places, so when a co-worker suggested that I come to Il Chianti for dinner, I was skeptical... skeptical to the point that I almost took this option off the table because of how close it is to the Trevi Fountain. After my first dinner though I realized that Il Chianti is the best thing since pasta with Sunday sauce (replacing sliced bread here because... when in Rome...). It was so good that we visited FIVE TIMES within a week - 5 TIMES within 7 days. Let that sink in. Every single time we ate here, the place was packed with locals so you know this restaurant is good. I tried basically everything on the menu, so here is a sneak peek of the highlights: -Prosciutto Crudo e Melone - hard to mess up but so, SO good. Don't skip on this. We ordered this every single time -Pappardelle al Ragi di Cinghiale - ooooh the fresh pasta. -Gnocchetti di Patate - some of the best gnocchi I have ever had. Simple sauce with tomato and basil which let the gnocchi really shine -Pici Acqua e Farina al Ragu Bianco - a white meat sauce with fresh pasta. What is better than this, really? -Filetto di Manzo alle Mele Renette e Cannella - beef grilled to perfection and stuffed with cinnamon apples, topped with sea salt which was the best piece of beef I have ever tasted -All the pizzas, we sampled a few -All of the meals come with complimentary fresh baked rosemary bread and olive oil, because Il Chianti is heaven By the 5th time we walked into the restaurant, the waiter laughed but was so happy to have us. I have to say that the staff here is also amazing and always ready to help you choose a great wine to go with your great meal. I have recommended this place to tourists that I met in Italy as well as my Sicilian-born cousins visiting from the south. My cousins agreed this place is authentic and have been back multiple times. I had the boar ragù over pappardelle pasta which was excellent. This is our second visit to Rome with our first being a bit of a gastric blunder. This is an excellent restaurant to try some of the most authentic carbonara around and in a good way. Grab plates to share. I'm a US citizen for palette reference... the food and staff were excellent. You'll see other Italian tourist in this restaurant. Conveniently located near the Trevi fountain and excellent gelato but try some of the desserts on the menu as well I loved the hazelnut semifredo. Creamy and rich with bits of crunch. My father tried the pistachio version and loved it. If you want the best tiramisu you've ever had in your life...dont pass up the chance to order it here. If you're full, share it! My family members who love the taste of coffee or just love coffee were all over it! The staff speaks pretty good English too! And the bread options, for while you wait for your food, are total yum! Ask for balsamic vinegar if they only grab the oil. Throw the two on your plate grind a little salt in there and have at it! Be prepared, as this isn't the only place, service is slower in Italy. So dont take it personal if they aren't regularly checking in or moving you thru your courses and grabbing your check. That's not the Italian way. Lunch today at Il Chianti. It's a stone's throw away from the famous Trevi Fountain - like less than a block away, We were on our way to a different restaurant, and by the time we arrived it was just closed. So I asked the owner to name another restaurant that we could visit, and he named this one. We saw it on the way to this place, so we just retraced our steps. Very attractive place, both inside and out. Their menu was limited for lunch. We looked over the menu before deciding to sit - they had a few basic pastas, pizza and plenty of other choices. Just enough to convince us to stay. The waitress reminded me of my Italian aunties. Very loud and straightforward. This is what we had: LASAGNA (4/5) Good ratio of sauce/pasta/cheese. It wasn't too rich, but I found it a bit too salty. I wish the sauce was a bit sweeter. RAVIOLI W/TRUFFLE SAUCE (5/5) This was the best dish. 4 over-sized raviolis with a bold truffle sauce with little bits of truffle throughout. The filling was ricotta and spinach. The one downside was the dish was not served hot. MARGHERITA PIZZA (4/5) Probably the thinnest crust pizza I've ever had. I'm a thin crust guy, so I was happy with it. A tad salty, but again, if the tomato sauce had some sweetness, it would have balanced out the salt and it would have been fine. All the same, it was very good and there were no leftovers. SALAD W/TUNA (4/5) This had tuna, corn, cannelloni beans and more. Simple dressing, maybe too simple - I added some EV Olive Oil and some balsamic vinegar. The vinegar was in a spray bottle on our table. I've never seen a bottle of vinegar that you could spray - great idea. MEAT & CHEESE PLATTER (4/5) Great appetizer. 4-5 kinds of Italian cold cuts, soppressata, headcheese and a few of the other usual suspects with about 4-5 different kinds of cheeses - fresh ricotta, pecorino romano, and some other kinds of cheeses that I've never heard of (I asked the waitress for the names). They had this sweet spread made out of grape jelly and it had a spicy kick to it. It may sound like a strange combination to go with the meat and cheese but it went really well together. The wine was so good that we asked for the name, and then we just decided to buy a bottle instead of trying to look for it after we get home. From start to finish, we were happy here. Great place to take a break for some good food. They also have seating outside in front of their ivy-covered building. I would def return if we had more time here, especially to explore what they have on their full dinner menu. read more
