i celebrated my birthday here and it was such a sweet time! came on a weekday evening and had a reservation but the place was pretty empty. parking is free at the pier after 6 too! the staff were all so nice and kind! i really felt welcomed and appreciated there. it feels cozy with mom&pop vibes. i really am rooting for their success besides the friendly service, the food was amazing! i got the fusilli which had a pink sauce + chicken and mushrooms. it was so good - i ate everything! the clams and mussels appetizer was also the best ive had. i rarely like mussels but these tasted delish. all my family members enjoyed their dishes! we've found a new favorite italian spot :) read more

I can't decide if the food was actually that good or if I was just really hungry . We started with the burrata and prosciutto, which was probably my favorite dish of the meal. The zucca was a close second. The cioppino was just okay, and honestly, the best part of it was the bread on the side. I really wanted to like this place because I've seen that they have so many locations, but the service here was just okay. There were quite a few times where I felt like we were forgotten. The bar area is cute and the entrance is really vibey, but we were seated at a tiny table next to a wall, so I didn't really get to enjoy or even remember much of the overall atmosphere from where we were sitting. If I were already in the area, I think I'd rather go to North Italia or CUCINA enoteca. Overall, this probably wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm not completely opposed to giving it another chance. read more

I have always been a big fan of Il Farro. I wrote them a glowing review on DoorDash. When they closed for a revamp recently, initially I was worried they had closed. When they reopened, I couldn't wait to order. Things have changed, though. It reminds me of when Gordon Ramsey comes into a restaurant and slims down the menu... tells the owner they need to change some things. Yes, I order through DoorDash, but the menu is the same. Looking back on my past orders, my daughter used to get spaghetti with marinara, and I would get the pappardelle boscaiola. I was thrilled to find a place that serves boscaiola, as I used to get the dish in Colorado, and I missed it. And then the bread! A whole loaf of bread with olive oil/balsamic to dip in. I freaked out the first time I got that loaf! The menu has been streamlined... I guess that's the right word. Neither of these dishes exist anymore, and we received slices of bread in a bag with no olive oil. And the bread doesn't seem as rustic, but maybe it was just because it was sliced thin. I had to settle for pappardelle ragu, which is them essentially using the base of their bolognese. (Which has ground beef.) Since my daughter isn't a fan of bolognese, she opted for lasagna. Don't get me wrong. The pasta is still homemade (thus 3 stars) but the portions are smaller. I'm on the hunt for my boscaiola now, and I'm sad Il Farro won't likely be my go-to anymore. read more

This is the best Italian restaurant we have found in Newport Beach and we've been coming here for 50 years and I've never eaten here till tonight and I think it's hands-down the best we've had in all of Orange County really the lobster ravioli the house made bread, the Caesar salad and the meatballs! Very authentic Italian restaurant feel here. They brought out bread and butter before dinner. We ate all the bread. The food took a while, but we were visiting with another couple and the time flew by. Everything we ordered was really good. We liked the sauces. I shared a side Caesar salad, which was plenty for the both of us. I ordered and finished the lasagna and my partner ordered the Sorrentina. They have alfresco dining, but it was a little chilly so we ate inside. The food is good, but the price is reflected it. Lasagna $28 and Sorrentina $26. My friends and I stopped by Il Farro to get a drink at the bar before we walked around the area. Our lovely bartender, Shayla, knew her way around the drinks for sure! She recommended popular drinks and guided us towards what we would like based on what we told her. I got a Mango Margarita that was balanced perfectly in terms of tequila and mango flavor. It almost felt like it wasn't a cocktail at all, yet I still got the kick! I also tried one of the Whiskey drinks and might have to open my mind to whiskey now. The food was a disappointment. My husband had lobster ravioli. The pasta was too thick so it was very heavy. he usually has a good appetite, but he couldn't eat half of this dish. I had the seafood Farro, which had really good flavors. My problem with it was it seemed as though the muscles were cooked separately and then laid on top of the dish because they were cold. I ordered takeout of three different pastas, two being gnocchi. When i went to pick them up, customer service was great. The price for two of the gnocchi was $55, so i expected it to be up to par. When i received and ate the food, it was warm, but there was no flavor, almost no sauce, and my food was extremely dry. After only four bites, i couldn't eat it anymore. The food here was extremely disappointing for the price. I had a similar experience with the food another instance before this one. I had ordered the Chicken Alfredo, eaten at the restaurant and was extremely underwhelmed. Chicken was crunchy, and cold. The pasta sauce was like liquid. Our server, Israel, was extremely attentive the entire time--always checking in at the right moments without being overbearing. The atmosphere is very comfortable and welcoming, and the fact that they're pet-friendly made it even better. We've been supporting this family-owned establishment back in 2015, but they've been here since 1993 and the food tastes incredibly fresh, authentic, and truly takes you back to southern Italy. Usually don't have high expectations for restaurants right by the beach but il farro exceeded all expectations! Loved the ambiance & cute details like different fresh flowers for each table. The food was amazing. But the key to our extraordinary experience was for sure our server Fernando who was so courteous, attentive & went above & beyond to make sure we had the best service ever! My friend even commented that this might be the best server he's ever met! Anyways 100% props to Fernando for truly caring abt his customers!! And also found out this is a family run restaurant which makes all the sense for how great of an experience we had!! You can tell the care they put into the place! Also lobster ravioli was amazing. Their olive oil dipping sauce was so good! I would drink a glass of it, asked for some to go when we left. We ordered a 4 cheese pizza as an appetizer as our meals were cooked, we had it double cut, smaller slices and more to go around. The goat cheese was a nice surprise. Would Order again for sure. I ordered the mixto carne ( rib eye, chicken, Italian sausage and veggies). The rib eye barely needed a knife to cut and the mushroom sauce was bomb. The chicken was good and meaningful portion.Sausage had a nice crust to it. Would totally order again. The crew enjoyed their individual dishes. The friend who had the gnocchi , suggested to share that dish and order a mixto carne, it was allot of gnocchi for one person. We didn't stay for dessert, already had plans to go else where but the menu looked nice. The chef was making rounds, a delight to be able to ask questions, very friendly and humble knowing his food is great.
