Admittedly, I didn't know this restaurant existed walking up, and it was a spur of the moment decision after I discovered the nearby 17th Street Deli was already closed (3pm). So, pizza or pasta? I needed something in my stomach before a wine tasting at Hi-Time Wine Cellars afterwards. Definitely need food for that! I was in a hunt for lasagne, so I asked and the lady who took my order gave it a seal of approval. I was also eyeing the house specials, or a build your own option. Pizzas looked good on the neighboring tables, so that's probably my next time choice. I grabbed a comfortable booth and waited a bit. The lasagne came out piping hot with that lovely browned cheese top. I decided to avoid adding anything else except black pepper, which revealed it's flavorful as-is. Anyhow, I like the casual atmosphere, and the clientele seemed to be regulars on a Saturday afternoon. Very nice!

Let's just start with the food--because wow! We came with a bigger group, which meant I got to sample a little bit of everything (the best way to do it, right?). The extra-large pizza was absolutely perfect--crispy crust, just the right amount of sauce, and toppings that tasted super fresh. The meatball sandwich? Served on bread that somehow managed to be soft and crunchy at the same time (basically sandwich perfection). The Greek salad was crisp, refreshing, and full of flavor, and the Capicollo sandwich brought that salty-savory punch I didn't know I needed until I tried it. The staff here deserves a shout-out--seriously some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I've met. You feel like family the second you walk in. Bonus points for the easy parking situation--because who wants to circle the block when you're craving pizza? Massimo's hits all the marks: delicious food, great vibes, and people who genuinely care about their customers. Definitely adding this to my "go-to" list!

Massimo Pizza - Costa Mesa Rating: (5/5) Sometimes you want an artisan, wood-fired, ultra-balanced pizza. And sometimes... you just want a massive, unapologetic, cheesy beast of a pie. Massimo nails that second category so perfectly that it feels almost therapeutic. We ordered an XL pepperoni + sausage with extra cheese, and the thing that stood out immediately is that Massimo actually understands what extra cheese is supposed to mean. Most chains toss on maybe 25-50% more, and it barely changes anything. Here, they layer it so thick that the slices almost fuse together into one glorious sheet of bubbling mozzarella. You lift a slice and it stretches -- heavy, gooey, satisfying -- exactly the way you hope it will. Flavor-wise, it hits all the buttons. The pepperoni brings salt and crisp edges, the sausage has that savory punch, and yes -- it's a grease bomb in the best possible way. If greasy pizza isn't your thing, this might not be the spot. But if you embrace a good greasy pizza, whether you're recovering from a long night or just craving comfort food, this place delivers. What really surprised me was how well the sauce balances everything. It has enough acidity to cut through all that cheese, meat, and oil, keeping each bite from feeling heavy. Instead of being overwhelmed, you just want another slice. And another. I also grabbed a side of alfredo sauce for crust dipping, and it was fantastic -- creamy, rich, and basically turned the leftover crust into its own bonus meal. This isn't a dainty pizza. It isn't pretending to be health food. It's bold, salty, cheesy, greasy, and absolutely delicious -- exactly the kind of pie you daydream about when someone says, "Let's just order pizza tonight." Final verdict: Massimo doesn't just do "extra cheese" -- they commit to it. Big flavors, heavy slices, great sauce balance, and total satisfaction. For this style of pizza, it hits the spot every single time. 5/5 -- an easy must-order. If you want clean, delicate pizza... look elsewhere. If you want pizza that tastes like pure comfort -- this is your place.

Stop here every time we're in the area. Small hole in the wall spot, few booths and TVs. Staff always wears soccer jerseys and re very friendly. Salads were excellent as well as pizza. Everything came out quickly and the whole family enjoyed their meal.

Oily, soggy, gross cheese, oil thru bottom of box. Owner ass hole.

0/5 stars. Me and my 4 friends said it's the worst pizza weve ever had in our lives. Disgusting. Covered in oil and greese. i called the owner he said "okay and" "move onto next pizza place. didn't apologize once. Didn't offer another one. absolute jack ass. Cursed at us. Costco chucky cheese school cafeteria has better pizza.

Their pizzas are top-notch, with fresh, high-quality ingredients and a crust that's the perfect balance of crispy and chewy. The subs are packed with flavor, especially the meatball sub, which is a total crowd-pleaser. And don't get me started on their pink pasta--don't know the exact recipe, but that creamy, tangy sauce is absolutely addictive and a must-try. Everything here screams quality, and it's no wonder this place is a local gem! Service is always on point and fast they have a great team here. I like the set up plenty of place to sit. The TVs and the sport decor set and cozy felling. Highly recommend this place

We got into town late, hit the beach for night swimming and wanted pizza- we called massimos and asked if they could cook us up a pizza even tho it was near closing time- they were so nice and threw the pie in the oven, we arrived minutes later and was greeted with a smile and they were so nice!! Cutest restaurant, family place, old school booths. The pizza was piping hot, cooked to perfection, tasted great. Would recommend this place, they have all kinds of Italian options, also beers, soft drinks etc

Not a bad way to start the year off! With most places closed on New Year's Day, options were slim. We settled on pizza since most pizza places are open still on this national holiday. We found Massimos Pizza and Pasta on door dash and then quickly flipped to Yelp to check the reviews. I saw that the reviews were mostly good, and decided to take a chance. I ordered the veggie pizza with Alfredo sauce instead of marinara sauce. The pizza was cheesy and delicious. The toppings were fresh. The pizza dough was alright. That could be better. Nothing compares to freshly baked vegan pizza dough. But for regular pizza crust, it was alright. It would have been better with a butter crust or garlic- any flavor. The crust and dough were bland to me. We had to really use the ranch to dunk the pizza in it. With the ranch for dipping, it took this pizza up to a 8/10. Without the ranch we are talking more like 7/10.

I booked reservations through Open Table which was fairly easy, but finding parking in order to make the reservation was SUCH a challenge. The area was so compact and hard to navigate through. Nevertheless, the restaurant was gorgeous. Our server however, was a bit short and left us waiting quite a few times to the point to where we had to ask other servers to assist us. Nothing major but we sat without things like utensils, napkins, etc. We'd also ordered a few drinks and waited a while for those to come as well. Our order was also wrong when brought out, but we didn't make a fuss. Also the restrooms were super small and crowded as well as SUPER humid. There were also these weird pictures of men sitting on the toilets which was pretty disturbing to be in a women's restroom. Idk it was pretty distasteful especially considering this is supposed to be a nicer restaurant. It was a nice spot for aesthetic IG pics. Overall I don't think I'll be coming back, but it was a cool spot to try I guess.

The extraordinary thing about the Pasta Sisters is that they offer house made pastas, which guarantees a higher price point, but offers unparalleled texture. The spaghetti has a "bite" that you get from a true "al dente" pasta. Their cheese tortellini were incredibly rich and cheesy, but a touch salty. The drawback of this location is that it's a ghost kitchen. You order it online and the order will be ready for you when you come in to pick it up. The location does not have seating, and you eat it at your own convenience. If you live/work locally, then this can be definitely worth checking out. Because I live out of town, I have to enjoy it either in my car, after a long drive home, or at my wife's office; however, I want to enjoy these $20 pastas in a restaurant, with wine and good company. A ghost kitchen is very different than a restaurant experience. I hope they do choose to bring their restaurant to the OC one day.

This is truly a neighborhood spot wedged in between a Wax Salon and a Laundromat…read more You can remove your slacks and have a wax then eat hearty food that's hard to beat and finally launder your Marinara'ed Versace Raw Silk shirt, not that this is a place to wear such a thing. Think of this as a full service night out. Caveat: I got caught in the OC Fair traffic which wasn't fair at all. Once I Wazed to the parking lot I walked in and a Staffer measured my level of angst and suggested I take deep breaths while he lead me to my table in a small cozy dining room. The Decor: An enlarged map of the Autostrada where you can go really fast while dining really slow. Thankfully, there was no blaring loop of Dean Martin telling you what happens when the Moon hits your eye like a big Pizza Pie. Water and wine are offered as soon as you've made your nest. Settle in as the frenetic rush remains outside. You're on Italian time here. This family owned place emphasizes enjoying a leisurely lovely meal of dishes you'll recognize. Filomena's is an O. G. style Red Checkered Table Cloth restaurant with no table cloths. Why should the owners pay for endless laundry even if it is next door. So, when you splash Sunday Gravy (Marinara with meat and plenty of meat drippings) that will never come out of your fancy scoop neck blouse no matter what you try and how much you cry. So, come as casual as you can without being indecent. Who're dining with you? Regulars and those who haven't been regular in years. The Staff: Efficient. My guy took my table's order before going to handle the Girls Night Out party of 22 in the private dining room. "If we don't put your order in now the kitchen will get slammed and you'll wait half an hour for your appetizers and then write a crappy review". The Food: There is an ambitious menu here featuring all things an Italian family would enjoy. In fact, any family would enjoy the classics served here. The large menu offers the usual suspects. All the pasta is house made along with all the Sauces, albeit, most of the Sauces are laced with Cream. Go ahead, show your arteries who's really runnin' the show. The Calamari Fritti was a solid choice. A good sized pile of hands, feet and rings served with Lemon Wedges for the purists and a cup of slightly spicy thick Marinara. The Calamari kept is crackling crispy crunch from the first tubular slice to the last tentacle that reached out. Often Calamari Fritti is good for two bites before it turns into a soggy sponge. Not here as the fry cook knows how to make this just right every night. The added plus is that the portions are heroic and suitable for any Roman Centurion. The Pappardelle with Bolognese consisted of long wide nicely cooked flat noodles with a serious pour of meaty Ragu over the whole works. If you're a giver, there is enough to share with two others. The Wedding Soup came in a bowl you could bathe a German Shepherd in. It began with Carrots, Celery and Onions, floating in a Consomme along with a handful of small light Meat Balls. Forget the wedding night, and just order a second bowl of Soup. The Garlic Bread that came with the Soup was nothing to write home or you about, for that matter. The Bread is outsourced and best for mopping anything you've eaten before the busser shows up to collect the plates. The Linguini Vongole featured Manila Clams in the shell and lots of Clam bits. The Linguini was perfectly cooked and stood up well to the the pleasant Clam chew. This version is what Clam Pasta can be and most often falls short of the mark. The Chicken Parmesan was a Breast pounded thin, breaded, fried and then buried under a chunky Maranara Sauce with a layer of melted Mozz as thick as your favorite flannel shirt. The whole thing was the size of a hub cap. At Filomena's you'll eat like battalions of Italians. I'll be back and I Filomean it.
