Highly recommended by a friend. Attractive space, inviting menu. Ordered Duck Ragu with Bigoli, classic Venetian dish with shredded duck legs, carrots, onion, celery, garlic, tomato, white wine. Not here. Ground duck that tasted more like ground turkey. No discernable carrots, celery, wine, tomato. Just seemed like ground meet fried in lots of oil mixed with the pasta, as bland as you could possibly make this delicious dish. read more

This review is as much about OpenTable as it is the restaurant. Do not make a reservation with Pastficio through OpenTable. There is no way to cancel the reservation through OpenTable without calling the restaurant. That OpenTable accepts this policy is frustrating. Further you are expected to put a credit card on file before making the reservation. If they are that afraid of cancellations then I suspect the food may be in question as well. When you call, do not expect a simple cancellation process. Whoever answered our call was clearly to busy to help and kept us on the phone without saying anything for 10-15 minutes. I went to the Westport Il Pastaficio with my husband and another couple. We go there and to the Cos Cob restaurant at least a few times a year. I'm very sad because every meal I've had at Il Pastaficio until tonight was amazing. Tonight's experience was horrible. I looked at the menu and the Lasagna Tartufo wasn't listed, my husband was disappointed because he wanted the Ragu with Duck, both were listed on their website. The manager was outraged that we asked for it and went on to tell us those are winter items and that they were throwing them out because nobody ordered them. We ordered focaccia, 2 caprese con buffalo salads, Bucatini Casio E Pepe, Gnocchi Pomodoro, Ragu with beef and the Pasta Norma. The focaccia and Caprese Bufala were good. The staff brought out two gnocchis, the Ragu and Pasta. Or a. We let them know it was supposed to be one Gnocci and one Buccatini Casio E Pepe, they look back one of the gnocchis, then brought it back and said they would be bringing out a Bucatini. Then I had a bite of my Pasta Norma and the pasta was less than al dente. I kept trying to politely get the attention of the manager or staff, finally after 5 minutes I got our servers's attention. I shared the issue with the pasta, she got the manager. He started lecturing me that their Italian chefs serve the fresh pasta al dente and that I'm just not used to it and what do I expect from to do. He also went on to tell me that Frederik's the owner has never cooked the food. Then he said I can order something else or they could remake it and over cook it. I asked them to please remake it. They brought it out five minutes later and it was Al dente, my husband and friend tried a piece and we all agreed it was now al dente. We decided not to get dessert because the samples were limited and we were so frustrated and disappointed that we'd rather go down the block for gelato. All in all it was a terribly disappointing experience. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday night at 6:30 pm and by the time we left there were only two tables. read more

Service was even worse than the food itself. The owner didn't want to serve at all. He was very rude to all customers and kept making breaking noises by throwing silverwares and glass cups on new table setups for the next guests. Never will go back there again. So much different than the same one in Greenwich, which has fresh food and such a nice service with care. My kids didn't even want to ask for Parmesan cheese because they were afraid of the owner will get mad to them. read more

This restaurant is okay.... just okay. I've been a handful of times because I love pasta and I desperately wanted this to be good, but every time I feel like my expectations are not quite met. For example, most recently, I ordered the tiramisu, but it was more like tiramisoup. The lady fingers had completely dissolved to the point where I didn't even know they were in there. The owner's excuse is that it was frozen for a long time. He offered no apology. His demeanor every time we've come has been aggressive and rude. The tiramisoup was the most disappointing thing I've ordered. The duck ragu was just ground duck. The lasagna is average and I could do better at home with my own recipe. Oh my! What a wonderful Italian restaurant. We were in the area and walked by this place and what an amazing place this is. The pasta which is served is all homemade and it was spectacular. We started off with some focaccia bread, so good, with some olive oil on the side. Next I ordered the lasagna bolognese which had to be the best piece of lasagna I ever had. My girlfriend had the Rigatoni pasta and she loved the simplicity of the dish, but with the fresh homemade pasta; she said it was perfect! For dessert we had to construct our own tiramisu. It was ok but it did not compare with the rest of the meal. See my attached video for how it was made. Next time we will have a different dessert. The service was top notch. The waitress was able to provide guidance on the different menu items. We loved the decor of this restaurant, it is small but yet you don't feel crowded. This restaurant also offers take home meals which I imagine they should be just as good as the meal we had. In addition we were able to purchase some Italian cheese which I am looking forward to trying. We have definitely found a new favorite Italian restaurant. read more

I had a girls night at Il Pastficio last night and it was absolutely delicious!! Such a fun evening and a very chill vibe. We started with Gli Affettati Misti without the Burrata (which I regret). The meat was super fresh with a good variety and the focaccia was toasted and delicious! We also got the "Gnocchets" to try - pan frying gnocchi is a new phenomenon to me, but oh wow is it delicious, especially smothered in the marinara. You really get to taste the quality of the handmade pasta this way, and it's worth it! For entree, my friend ordered La Lasagna Bolognese which was tasty and I ordered the Rigatoni all'Amatriciana which was delicious! The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce had a solid amount of guanciale, the taste pairing well with the San Marzano. I couldn't finish it so I took it home and it still tasted great reheated! For dessert we ordered the Affogato which was so refreshing after all the tomato sauces! I also ordered the Torta Al Limone - the flavor was ok, but I thought the shell was a little hard. Next time I'll follow the waitress's advice and go with the Tiramisu! I chatted with the awesome wait staff in Italian, and everyone was super lovely and welcoming! Raw. Not Al dente...raw. After waiting all day to have my first meal, my dinner arrived raw.

We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated promptly. A waiter took our order right away. Shortly afterward, we were asked to change tables. The host claimed it was for our comfort, but it was clear they wanted to combine our original table for a larger party. We moved without complaint. Our appetizers arrived and were excellent. Then we waited. After about an hour, a waitress came by to offer us the dessert menu, and we told her our dinners had never been served. We had theater tickets and needed to leave, so we went to the host to let him know. Instead of apologizing, he asked our waiter what we had eaten and started preparing a check for the appetizers, double-checking whether we had ordered drinks. We explained again that we'd been waiting an hour for dinner that never came. His response was that we hadn't been served because we were "talking." That excuse was absurd and insulting. He offered no apology, no acknowledgment that something had gone wrong, and didn't offer to comp the appetizers despite the fact that our dinner out was effectively ruined. If he had simply admitted they forgot our order, we would have understood since mistakes happen. But being lied to and treated dismissively guaranteed that we won't be back. read more

P Now I know I'm being nit-picky here, but the menu is poorly designed with a small font and the dishes are lacking description. So when asked to have the waiter describe a dish, little was added, not to mention that some of the staff are non-native English speaking, which I respect, but the noise level and difficulty understanding resulted in some confusion about the food, what was ordered or not ordered. The description of specials was limited and very hard to understand, and there was no written menu of specials to rely on. One person ordered a pasta dish with duck. It looked very unappetizing, with gray ground meat piled on top thick spaghetti which was VERY al dente. Too al dente. This dish was dry, no sauce, maybe olive oil. This was ground duck, supposedly a ragú, but there was no sauce to it. The duck was not roasted, confit, crispy/sliced or bite sized. It was ground. The pasta wasn't properly cooked and the dish was dry. The other dishes that were ordered were meh, I hate to say. A boring salad. Good olives. Good Focaccia bread. Good olive oil. Good wine. But I would not return to this restaurant for a few good olives & a glass of wine. Oh, and as we all know, parking is awful in downtown Westport, but this restaurant was one person's first choice. The place really wasn't worth the effort to walk so far to get there. read more

Delicious food. Blown away actually for Westport. Portion sizes too are BIG for Westport! I ordered two caprese salads , could have split one between my mom and I , but glad I got two they were so good!!!! The service was very kind and the truffle dish was to die for ; and the spicy sausage pasta and gnocchi. We had our office holiday luncheon yesterday and it was INCREDIBLE!!! From beginning to end, couldn't have asked for a better location and AMAZING food. Traveled from out of town and stopped in for dinner. Had salad and pizzas-the food was great. Great atmosphere and service!

Portions are small but tasty. The pasta stands out as excellent but other key ingredients seem disproportionately sparce. I would not go expecting a traditional filling Italian meal. Think tasting not filling. The service was excellent. The ice cream was delicious and generously served. I unfortunately had the taramisu which was two small lady fingers and a separate dish of goo with a shot of espresso on the side which some how I was to assemble into a desert for $12. should have laughed and sent back! They CHARGE handsomely for a small basket of bread!! Not generou! Ambiance was good, and more than acceptable for a small space. The restaurant was very clean and well organized. Our meal for 4 with (no appetizers) and a glass of wine each was $220 plus tip. All-in excellent chef, but management should look at size of portions and ingredients withheld. read more

When we made the reservation for dinner last week, I said to my wife, "We'll either kick ourselves for not having dined there earlier, or we'll be happy to know that we weren't missing anything anyway." Were it possible to kick myself any harder, I would--because it turns out we'd been missing the best Italian meal we've had in a long time, and BY FAR the best Italian food in the Westport/Fairfield area (and it's not particularly close). In short, there's nothing I can reasonably criticize about the entire experience, from the initial service (welcoming, efficient and warm) to the taking of orders (helpful) to the food itself (staggeringly good, and SO MUCH BETTER than...somewhere else nearby) and the general ambiance, which is pleasant without being showy or self-aware. Food highlights: Aperitivi: Negronis (excellent) Regional wines: excellent and varied Focaccia: BEST I'VE EVER HAD, INCLUDING ON MY DOZEN TRIPS TO ITALY. It was perfect. Charcuterie Board: Excellent, with a side of burrata which might also be among the best I've ever had Pastas: All great, from the kids' gnocchi and pasta with butter (execution still matters) to my wife's Rigatoni Amatriciana (of which I still dream, and was instantly jealous upon being offered a bite; notably, I was never offered a second) and my special (the pappardelle was lovely, and the saucing quite good) One reviewer below mentioned their issues with the service, specifically the difficulty in communicating with non-native-English-speaking waitstaff. I suppose I sympathesize with that in theory, as I did have to follow up with a couple questions about my order of the special (which was tremendous, but not exactly what I thought I'd ordered). Ultimately, though, it's one of those "now you know" things, for the countless times we'll patronize this restaurant in the future, to try most everything on the menu and to enjoy what everyone should have in their lives: a local Italian joint that puts the food first, and upon which you can depend for the comfort and joy the cuisine delivers when it's done as expertly as it is at Il Pastaficio. My wife and I couldn't have been happier with our experience. Adam and his staff were just as wonderful as the food. This was a perfect place for a our anniversary dinner which the staff acknowledged by adding an extra treat for dessert.
