Our recent family gathering at Via Sforza was like being transformed to our heritage in Italy. The service could not have been better. So courteous and accommodating to special requests. Several groups of bread, olive oil and olives placed on our large table were evenly distributed so there was not a lot of passing around. The salad was lightly dressed, flavorful and nicely complimented with thin slices of parmesean cheese. The food is as close to homemade as you can imagine. The eggplant parm was not heavy and delicious. The pasta primavera was a favorite among many. Lots of veggies with a delicate cream sauce. My sister and I had the Parpardelle. So delicious! Not a heavy meat sauce but rather small pieces of thin sausage complimented with hearty mushrooms and peas. The parpardelle was a wide very thin pasta making this dish extra delicious. We had our party of 13 guests in the rear private room which is behind a lovely iron gated archway The decor is so inviting. This was our second year having our gathering at via Sforza. Our plan had always been to have a different restaurant each year as in the past. However, everyone in attendance requested we not change the venue. It's been a wonderful find! Sad to downgrade, but between the diminished portions, the vastly escalated prices, and apparently new owners/management, whatever charm there is comes at a very high cost. I recently got Pappardelle Al Forno (a whopping $30) substituting chicken for sausage and it was an insult: literally half the portion it used to be, with a sprinkling of approximately 8 chicken strips each the size of one strand of shredded carrot. The pappardelle noodles themselves were fine, but the delicateness in the sauce is now heavy and overpowering. Also got the Cacio et Peppe ($28). The portion was what most restaurants would call a Kids Meal. And it was extremely salty. Far superior Cacio et Peppe at Zucca down the road, and you get the exact same portion at their happy hour for $10, or an actual entree portion that's more than twice the size for $22. Sad. After 26+ years of loving Via Sforza, we won't be back. read more

Another August, another birthday dinner with Mom. She came here with some friends, about a month ago, and liked it. So she wanted to come back with us. We had a 6:30PM Saturday reservation, and we sat in the outside portion of the restaurant; complete with roof, walls and a nice breeze. Menu is a lot of pasta, chicken, pizza, some apps, plus specials. We ordered fairly quickly. Clams Casino & Maldani Pizza for Apps. Risotto, Lasagna and 2 Pasta Dishes for mains. We noticed a band was tuning up, which I wasn't thrilled about. The apps arrived before the music started, and while the Pizza was pretty good, their version of Clams Casino was not. More like baked or stuffed clams with a huge chunk of bacon on top, that dominated the entire flavor of the clam. While waiting for about 40 minutes for the entree, the band kicked into high gear. What started off with some Italian Classics, quickly turned into a loud, bad wedding band. "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison, stopped all conversation at the table. All we could do was wait for dinner, and laugh at the ridiculousness. The Lasagna was good, but the rest of the meal was not. Linguini and Clams was way too salty, Risotto was dry and just not good. My Pappardelle il Forno was disappointing. Overcooked pasta, and a strange sauce for almost $30.00. The desserts were the star, coffee was good and our servers were nice. But a bill of about $300.00, {after tip and tax} is totally unjustifisble. Also, we noticed that during dinner, a breeze would bring the stench of either the dumpster or a dead animal on the property, to our noses. A perfect omen. This place needs to lose the band, fire the cooks, and revamp. It was pretty awful. Maybe at one time this place was really good, but that time has long passed.... read more

Met my family for lunch at noon on a Sunday at Via Sforza. When seated they handed us the dinner menu. I asked for the lunch menu that they have online. I was informed that they only serve the dinner menu on Sundays. The dinner menu significantly raises their prices for the same meal and has no sandwiches. This makes no sense. I asked if I could still get the veal parm sandwich that was only on the lunch menu. They said they would make the sandwich but charge for the entire dinner meal price. No thanks! Ordered the portobello mushroom special for $18 and got 1 mushroom cap. I will not be returning. read more

Honestly, this place was recommended to me and I was so excited to try good Italian in Fairfield County because I find that it's difficult to find. This is not the place. Came here Saturday to meet some friends. We had reservations and I would definitely recommend making them, at least on weekends. It's a lovely place and one of the few Italian restaurants that looks like it actually might be in Italy. There's a large covered outside area and I would recommend sitting out there if the weather is nice. Crowd is generally on the older side. The wine list is pretty good. The menu isn't huge but there's lots of good things on there. I had the salad and calamari app and both were good. I had the chicken parm with eggplant and enjoyed it. Everyone was happy with their dinner so that was good. Service was efficient and prices fair considering quality, quantity and location. They made me a French martini and just by looking at this dark drink we all knew something wasn't correct. It tasted sour. My friend also tasted, not good. It was replaced by wine. Disappointing. Don't be persuaded by the Tuscan-farmhouse decor. I wouldn't call this authentic Italian food. It's a pizza place serving mediocre, Italian inspired fare. The price point is far too high for the quality of food served, and the staff was neither particularly helpful nor knowledgeable about the menu. I've been here a number of times and the food is decent. I wouldn't call it outstanding. I probably won't be going back though. The prices are way too high. They've lost me as a customer. A small mista salad was $14.95. It was a "side" sized salad, not a dinner sized. A 10" cheese pizza was $18.95, and a simple plate of pasta was 24.95. The prices are similar to what one might pay in a major large city ( NYC, etc), not in the local area. Just came back from dinner, and this is a mixed review. Hubby had the risotto soecial, which he really enjoyed with soft shell crab and prawns. Good sized portion. Now for the rest. I had the Summer at Puglia drink, which was a linoncello spritz with gin and raspberry. Unfortunately, the gin was overwhelming. I asked them to fix it by adding more limoncello, but they added more soda water, which didn't help. They took it off the bill as I complained again and barely had 2 sips. Our appetizer was forgotten and taken off the bill. Staff was very apologetic about the appetizer, but not so much about the drink. The Pollo Arrosta sounded so good but was barely stuffed with any spinach and proscuitto. It was dry and seemed to have absolutely no seasoning. Very disappointing as this is a usually a solid 4-star type of restaurant (reviewed in 2021), and ilve neen there been here many times, and it's been good each time It didn't help that the Westport matron at the next table was massaging her bare feet under the table while talking about designer clothes and vacations. Friends and I came here to celebrate an achievement. First, I must say I love the Cantina Sforza room in the back. It's quieter and has a nicer ambiance. Second, the food! The pappardelle il forno was so superb that I didn't leave any on my plate! Service was courteous. The only problem could be the parking on a busy night. There's additional parking at an office building next door but even that can get crowded. If you're with a group, try car pooling. Great experience, overall. read more

Staff was pleasant and helpful. Food came out promptly and hot. I had the clams casino (highly recommend) and pasta amatriciana. Excellent. Filled w the goodies, yum. My daughter had cheese pizza with no sauce. She enjoyed. My wife had the chicken with artichokes. She loved the pasta, but, maybe not the chicken. Next time she'll add extra artichokes and capers. Really enjoyed our dinner at Via Sforza. I had the Mario salad with cavatelli Nonna. I split both dishes with my friend since we are smaller eaters and the portions were perfect. Came here for a baptism luncheon. We had the whole back room to ourselves, which was very quaint. We have been passing by this restaurant for quite some time and we always said we wanted to give them a try. Finally we stopped in and Bpt am I glad we did. The ambiance, service and food was absolutely perfect. We started the evening with an order of fried calamari with marinara sauce. The calamari was cooked perfectly; lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. For my entree I had the veal chop served with vegetables and red sauce. The veal coop was huge, the portion size was enough for lunch the next days. My girlfriend had the pappardelle with a duck ragú. She loved her meal and of course enough for a doggie bag to take home. Went Saturday night so this is a delayed review. ENTRANCE- came at dinner time but waited for a host to greet and seat us. Tip: no reservations are taken for Friday and Saturday. Note: the have parking in front and in the back. AMBIANCE - very beautiful interior. Not a large number of tables but very elegant looking and the seats are very comfortable. SERVICE - a bit of a low point. Not very attentive. Waiter basically takes order and brings check. The bus team handles bringing food. Unfortunately I ordered linguine and clams in a white sauce that wasn't strained very well and the server spilled some on me. The hot liquid mostly. But no real damage or serious burn. MENU - they offer a number of great dishes and pizzas as well. ENTREES- our party all ordered different things. I ordered the calamari fra diavlo and it was super. The calamari was cooked perfectly and not rubbery at all. My linguine and clams was on the contrary not so great. Too much water. The clams were not the good Long Island ones. The flavor was bland due to poor straining. Note: I substituted linguine as the menu offered angel hair. DESSERTS - one of our party tried the cannoli and demolished it in seconds it was so good. I just hosted my sisters bridal shower here, and I was blown away by the entire experience. Leading up to the party, the planning was made very easy by the staff. They were always available to answer any questions I had. The food was fantastic, and the portions were huge.
