cross-section of the bacio gelato cake where you can see the tiny wedge of cake

Amazing bakery! I found Il Pastificio on Yelp when I was looking for an ice cream cake for a birthday; it was one of the few places that delivered ice cream cakes to Cambridge that also had good ratings. I saw that they offered gelato cakes (an upgrade from ice cream!), but Mercato, the delivery site, only listed a couple of flavors of cake, while it had many more types of gelato. When I called to ask if the bakery had other cake options, I spoke with Sandra, who explained that they make their cakes fresh so not all of them are listed. (So definitely call to check if you don't see what you're looking for on their website; they have an amazing variety of flavors!) She was super nice and helpful--she walked me through the cake options, added the specific cake I wanted (bacio--chocolate and hazelnut) to the delivery site, and made sure I knew how to specify the cake message on the delivery site. We were all amazed by the quality of the cake--it was really beautiful, topped with a cute flute of sugar sparkles, with dark chocolate rose decorations around the circumference of the top and bottom. And in addition to being enormous and pretty, the cake was delicious! The cake was largely composed of chocolate hazelnut gelato, which was really thick (someone analogized the denseness to that of liquid nitrogen ice cream) and creamy and had strong, balanced flavors of chocolate and hazelnut. A further plus was that it was not too sweet, as ice cream sometimes is. The cake did not melt or get messy while it was sitting out, which was great. (Gelato has a higher melting point than ice cream, which makes gelato cake better than ice cream cake!) There was a small pat of yellow cake that did not span the bottom of the cake but served as the base. It was moist and really tasty--we wished there was more, but the gelato was so good that it was still a big hit. Thank you, Sandra and Il Pastificio for making our birthday celebration a success! We're looking forward to eating the leftovers :)

I order from here frequently for events as well as family parties. Always excellent quality and taste. They now have Pre made dinners available and catering trays of chicken parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana, lasagna and other pasta. I highly recommend the chicken cutlets!!

    Great outdoor patio!

Great atmosphere, super clean, nice staff. And really great, made-to-order food. Fresh, Italian food by the ocean:-D

Rum cake with a chocolate box with chocolate pearls inside. YUM.

Still as amazing as ever. New additions to note: new flavors for biscotti like lemon cranberry and other magical things. Still love the amazing pasta, especially the spicy fusilli which is uh-may-zing. Also gnocchi. Tony and his daughter Sandra are the best. They pay attention to detail and take pride in using quality ingredients and they are just awesome. Big plus recently. I ordered a rum cake for a birthday and all I said was "chocolate lovers". Let me tell you, it was one of the lost beautiful cakes I had ever seen. There was an actual chocolate box that opened on top of the cake and it was filled with chocolate pearls inside. That alone, was worth three times the price of the cake, seriously. Love this place!! Did I say that already??

It was perfect. My husband ordered the cake from this location for our 5th wedding anniversary. The cake was for 30 guest. It was more than what we had expected. Everyone loved the cake and wanted more of the cake to bring home. Bonus: My husband wanted to try the canolies (not sure of the spelling, sorry), the nice lady at the register just gave him these treats at no cost. Lovely people, we will be coming back.

Love this bakery! The fresh pasta is top notch! We frequently stop here to buy a few pounds of fusilli and they never disappoint. Last Christmas, I purchased their panettone that they make themselves and then they place them in decorative sacks and top them with a lovely ornament. Gorgeous! Not to mention, the panettone was so fresh and delicious. A few months ago, I ordered two cakes, one for my husband and one for my son. I ordered a cassata cake with Marzipan on top. This is a Sicilian specialty and it can be very difficult to find a bakery that makes this outside of the North End (Modern). The cassata cake was so moist and ricotta filling was just right. They topped the cake off with marzipan fruit that looked so real. Everyone loved it. The other cake was an ice cream cake and was decorated so nicely. The kids loved it. Will be back very soon.

Beautifully designed and delicious. My family enjoyed this

If you're in the Boston area, I would consider it a sin NOT to try Bricco's Salumeria. Not joking when I say that my favorite bite experienced during my entire trip to Massachusetts, came from one of the focaccia sandwiches I ordered from Bricco's. I have already made it a point in my mind to hit this spot in the North End of Boston any and EVERY-time I find myself in the Boston area. It truly is an Italian staple and a Boston Classic! I am a sucker for the majority of places that promote and sell to the public the local or imported ingredients and produce that are used in the making of the speciality menu items that make the spot a household name. Truly a traditional and classic Italian spot that speaks to the inner Paisan inside. It's like stepping into a part of Italy when you walk in here. The place is oozing with class and history, along with a mouthful of delicious stories to hear and sample from the staff that breathe life Into this place. The only bad thing is the limited seating. Thankfully though, there's a local park down the road that you can sit at while you enjoy this wonderful Boston Gem.

The bakery is cash only and sells a variety of breads: baguettes, ciabatta, sourdough, & olive bread. In addition to the sfogliatelle, they sell muffins, croissants, and focaccia and muffins. The sfogliatelle was pretty good, the pastry was crispy and flaky and the lemon ricotta filling was very rich and creamy. I would've loved to have a couple loaves of the bread, but there was no way I was going to be able to bring it home as I was already maxed out with my carry ons!

Looks very authentic inside like a restaurant / deli you might find in Firenze. I decided to order the Italian Sub as they make it; no changes. In hindsight, I should've changed a few things I kind of knew I wouldn't like, but wanted to roll with their take on the classic sub. The bread was very fresh and the meats abundant and plentiful! I was not a fan of the balsamic, nor the "hots" (not "hot" so-to-speak, but kind of a marinated sweet pepper, nor am a fan of sweet pickles. Condiments on their sandwich...? PRO-TIP: Place an order online for pick-up; walk up, go in the second door (to the left) straight to the counter where you pay and pick up your sandwich which will be ready by the time you get there.
