Small legit Italian restaurant in the East Village. I came here on a Thursday night around 6:30 and it wasn't yet busy but the place was already booked out so for two people we sat at the bar which was perfectly fine for us. By 7, it was packed with parties and the bar was filled. Unfortunately this place won't take reservations for small parties so come early rather than later if you can. Good thing is that this place also opens quite late. We started off withe grilled octopus which was cooked perfectly, very delicate and soft. The acid from fresh lemon highlighted it very well. It was a good amount to share between two people. The meal also came with an assortment of mixed complimentary bread. Then we shared two pastas. First the cavatelli which is a popular dish. It came with a light white cream sauce with fresh pasta that was cooked al dente with peas and spicy sausage bites, lightly mixed in with truffle oil. We also shared the oxtail tortellini. It was three gigantic tortellini stuffed with pulled-apart oxtail and little bits of raisin. The sauce was very good with some fresh pine nuts mixed in. Very good and surprisingly filling. The skin of the tortellini was also very fresh and aldente. Overall, the place was really delicious. The plates are more like shared plates. They might look small when on the plates but it actually is quite a bit of food and we were full by the end of the meal. Truly one of the best Italian meals I've had in NYC. Looking forward to bringing my friends to this GEM! Il Posto had been on my Restaurant List for a little while and I finally got the opportunity to test it out on a Sunday night around 9:30pm. SPACE: Lovely indoor/outdoor space on a quiet street. I sat inside close to the street FOOD: Every dish I ordered was truly spectacular. I started with their calamari ("Calamari alla Griglia") - possibly some of the best calamari I've ever had. It was absolute perfection. The "Buffalo Mozzarella Caprese" was excellent. For pasta, I ordered the "Fettuconi con Pomodorini e Shitake" and it was fabulous! I had been craving pasta just like that for a long time! I could have eaten an entire pot! I also ordered the "meatballs" which were fantastic! The sauce was to die for. Finally, I agreed to get dessert even though I was ridiculously full. I am so happy I did! I was served one of the best Panna Cottas I've ever had! So light! SERVICE: Everyone was very nice! I believe the manager or owner made sure I was enjoying my meal. My server was patient and gave me wonderful recommendations. FINALE: I cannot wait to go back and bring friends! Such delicious food and a warm, bustling and intimate atmosphere! I had the cavatelli alla ricotta and it was rich and spectacular. Divine! If one can have a transcendent experience over pasta, it would be here. I had the pleasure of eating here last night for my birthday with a group of 7. The restaurant isn't too big but was able to accommodate our group (we made a reservation) and I saw another large group in the back. We tried almost all of the pasta's, many apps and a few desserts. We came early around 6:30pm and had the whole place to ourselves for about 30 minutes before it became packed! The pasta's were perfectly al dente and very flavorful. The portions were not large but enough for each person in our group to get a spoonful or two and it was very filling for most of us in the group. Personally, I don't love huge plates of food (I can never finish it) and prefer smaller portion sizes so this was perfect for me. You can expect pasta's to cost around the $20 range. My favorite pastas were the Cavatelli di ricotta (w/ spicy sausage), Spaghettini Fatti (w/ sea urchin) and Fettuccine fatte (w/ mushroom). For Apps, we loved the crab croquette, shishito peppers and burrata w/ prosciutto which were specials of the night and also the broccoli rabe from the normal menu. And definitely save room for dessert, especially the Tiramisu, probably the best I've ever had. I would go back for this alone. The only thing I *DID NOT* like was the filet mignon. TASTY ITALIAN DATE SPOT If I had to describe this place in 4 words. Went on a Sunday night around ~6, pretty empty so we got sat quickly right at the bar. Ambiance 5/5 - they had all these cool little floating light whicker orbs everywhere and white Christmas lights, felt straight out of a catalogue and it fit perfectly. Bar was comfy, place was warm, great spot. Food 4/5 - I got the TORTELLONI DI CODA and though the sauce and meat was very tasty, the pasta itself was a little tough and I found myself eating from my girlfriends plate. They graciously gave her the FUSILLI CAMPAGNOLA from the Lunch menu - INCREDIBLE. yum yum yum, definitely going to be coming back for lunch to get that again. Service 4.5/5 - really not super attentive but the fact they were nice enough to give us some off menu items I really appreciated. Incredibly cozy and cute Italian restaurant! If you're in the neighborhood I highly making a reservation and getting a bite for some delicious and low maintenance food. We made a reservation the day before for a party of 6 at 6:45 for dinner. They have a couple big tables and a bar, but it definitely gets crowded during prime time. We ordered a couple bottles of wine throughout the night, they have a good selection of varied wines. We ordered the eggplant balls with burrata and the calamari for appetizer. The calamari was grilled and excellent, but the eggplant balls were amazing, I've never had anything like that and highly recommend it! They had a mix up in the kitchen so our appetizers took quite some time to come out, but they brought a complimentary tomato crostini! Which was great! The pasta dish for dinner was 3/5 stars, I ordered the mushroom fettuccine, it was lightly sauced, but quite plain and under seasoned. The service was very friendly and accommodating! read more

The only aspect less satisfying than our meal was the healthy dose of Buzzkill served up by the Proprietor, when we arrived 25 minutes late and missing a member of our party because she stayed at the Vaccine Clinic where she volunteers. Three of us were coming from JFK, and he seemed fine as we kept updating our progress, even declining our offer to give up the table and wait for the next availability. However, when we showed up, he read us the Riot Act, claiming we cost him his entire night's till. Not exactly an appropriate welcome for a Party of 5 that dropped half a Grand into his post Covid ledger... As for the food? 50/50. Soft-shell Crab was awful: cook a softie in high heat, that carapace turns back into hard cartilage, and had the texture of a Palmetto Bug. My Tortolloni was decently flavored, though a bit salty for my taste, and difficult to eat without a spoon, which wasn't worth waiting for, due to the fact that we were being tacitly ignored. Fried fresh anchovies were great- almost: without that squeeze of lemon to brighten it up, which we were afraid to ask for, they were merely tolerable. Our Caprese styled app with burrata was disappointing, because the burrata itself was hardened, instead of that silky, creamy nectar one would expect, and it ain't exactly Tomato Season yet, so... meh. Further proof of Anthony Bourdain's warning to never order of the "Specials" Menu, especially on a Friday Night. The Branzino was superb, but Fettucine alle Limone with Shrimp barely yielded a trace of the latter two ingredients, and was more akin to Alfredo, which those of us well versed in La Cucina Italiana find disgustosa. The point is, it's difficult to enjoy a meal when one feels "Sotto il Cappello" (literally "Under the Hat", meaning "In the Doghouse"), and that's the most regrettable part of our experience. It was a really cute place (also very cozy aka slightly cramped) and the food was good but long story short i think the prices are not worth it, especially considering the small portions. The portion was literally half the size of what i consider to be a normal serving and we were only not disgruntled because it was technically our second dinner. I think there are better alternatives for Italian food, and places that are not so out of the way. We tried: - spaghetti bogartta 8/10: was good, i think couldve used more sauce bc the dish came out really dry and also it was literally just spaghetti + sauce -- nothing else in there - zuppetta di pesce 7/10: honestly was just like a tomato-y seafood stew..i think it wouldve been great if the whole dish was on top of some pasta but oh well read more

I've been to Il Posto aka "zee spot" twice now and I love it. Highlights- - the owner ("babycakes") always stops by with a funny comment. - the Sunday lasagna was unreal- multi layered, saucy and meaty. - pistachio ice cream imported from Italy- it is unlike anything I've ever had in my entire life. Rich and delicious. - inexpensive bottles of wine. - cute decorations inside and they have social distanced the tables, which I love and made me feel very comfortable. - amazing specials on the menu. I rarely order specials at a restaurant but the two times I've been to Il Posto, I've ordered at least appetizers off the specials menu. I love food, and I know Italian. This is the finest lasagne I've ever had. The husband/host (I'm sorry I forgot his name) was the bomb... and like he said.... They work hard to find the right ingredients, and make the food with a little love. And the wines were perfect. No no and no. I came here with regulars and to say they were disrespectful is an understatement. We were with a child who admittedly was not silent but there was construction (as in loud drill). We were talking above it and the table next to us kept telling us to be quiet. How about asking the construction to stop on a Saturday? Meanwhile we order a nice champagne. The mother in our group stood up to calm her child. The manager told her to sit down. Wait what??? What country are we in? Then he yelled at her for not putting a mask on her child. I tried to stand up for my friend and was told I was "dirty" by another patron in front of his daughter. This is the example we set in front of a child? I've never felt such disrespect and anger. Go elsewhere. You deserve to be out of business. Update...the other patrons have said we were "entitled" and not compliant with Covid. I respect all restaurant staffs and have wonderful relationships with my local spots. What we were not ok with was the manner in which this man told the mother in our party to sit down. And the nasty patron next to us who rolled her eyes the minute we sat down. People - we are in a pandemic and all doing the best we can. And we were trying to celebrate a birthday. Very sad all around. My locals will continue to get my support. Not this restaurant. Finally "Paul" accused me of being a Karen and that's grossly inaccurate. This comes from the man who called me "dirty" in front of his daughter. Who was being disrespectful? This has nothing to do with race. This place met all of our needs. We originally selected this particular restaurant because it stayed open later than other places. When we got there we were delighted by the ambiance and quick service. The food is so good you can hardly stand to put your fork down. NYC is an awful place because you can grow up around the East Village, but only as a South Brooklyn adult do you come upon a gem like Il Posto (BECAUSE YOU SAW IT ON THE INTERNET-- on instagram). I was amazed that someone (Bea) treks to 14th street, selects the freshest picks, and was able to make me howl with laughter while calling me a petunia (just watch the reels). Anyway, I planned for months to come here and actually try one of their delicacies. One night, after waking for miles around Manhattan, I was able to round up my grand total two friends to walk with me all the way to East 2nd from south st sea port. The dishes were phenomenal, the wine list great, and the people were real New York. read more

Spotted: Padma Lakshmi! Score. Came here for dinner and had a lovely dining experience! It is a very cozy/romantic spot with a wine bar vibe but with nice sized sharing plates. As soon as we sat at the bar, the bartender apologized for being busy but soon helped us select a white wine to start. The small bread basket was a wonderful little surprise. Really enjoyed the artisanal breads and balsamic/olive oil to dip. The bartender made 4 recommendations which we went with: sautéed spinach, eggplant croquettes, pasta with sweet sausage and a frisée salad with bacon and egg. All were very nice dishes but my favorite was the pasta. The cream sauce was cheesy but light and the sausage paired with peas gave a nice balance of salty and creamy. Yum yum! I came here for dinner last night with my parents because one of my dad's best friends is a regular here. We sat at the bar and ordered the burrata with puglia bread it was delicious especially when the bread got soaked with the oil and tomatoes we also got a really good salad. For my entree I had the tagliolini with shrimp & cream sauce it was amazing however they have a rule that your not suppose to have cheese on seafood witch is ridiculous. Then for dessert we had a delicious apple tart with ice cream and a decadent tiramisu. I defiantly will be coming back. read more

Only regular customers are welcome here. They don't want or need any new ones. It's very disappointing when you go to an acclaimed restaurant and leave feeling as absolutely shunned as we did. This was the case today at Il Posto Accanto. I'll add the caveat that we showed up just before 4pm on a Friday afternoon, so we may have arrived between lunch and dinner service shifts. Be that as it may, that's no excuse for completely ignoring the only customers on the dining room floor. A smile and a "Hello" would've made all the difference in the world. I think they assigned the prep cook, or maybe it was the dishwasher, to wait our table. I'm still wondering if he speaks any English at all. We had absolutely no conversation with him, or any restaurant employee whatsoever, about anything. All the employees were partying at the bar. We told him it was our first time there, hoping to get a recommendation from the complex menu. No comment. We were completely ignored the entire meal. When the food came, nobody checked our table to see if we liked the food, or needed anything. I had to ask one of the employees partying at the bar for a fork. My water glass went empty. As we were waiting for the waiter to return so we could pack our leftovers, a couple sat in the table beside us. (Every other table in the place was empty) I told them that I hoped they got better service than we did. And did they! Within minutes, no fewer than three employees from the bar visited their table and spoke to them in English! The couple were regulars. One of the partiers from the bar party offered the man a taste of wine as a recommendation for his table. That really pissed me off. I guess you've gotta be a regular to be noticed in this place. They don't want any new customers. That's the only conclusion I can come up with. This was the worst service I've had in years. Maybe ever. I regret leaving the 8% tip. Amazing Italian food, amazing atmosphere, and amazing service. Had the truffle drizzled steak tartare to start and my breath was soaked in truffle essence. The steak was so fresh and had great balance with the arugula and pecorino. My entree was the "Crackvatelli", as the owner calls it, and it surely would not disappoint. The sausage, the sauce, the pasta - everything was perfect even the portion size. Must must must order. My friend had the filet mignon and he devoured it. I was able to sneak a bite to try the goodness. The oxtail stuffed tortellini was an interesting fusion but I think I had so much flavor from my entree that it just overpowers the oxtail. Still very good though! Dessert we had an apple tart. I'm not a sweets person but that was a perfect end to the dinner. The owner was there and chatted with us.
