We ordered a spread and every dish delivered. The truffle ravioli was luxuriously rich and silky, easily one of the best pastas I've had in Italy. The steak was perfectly seared and served with roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables in a creamy sauce, comforting yet refined. The bruschetta came loaded with prosciutto, shaved Parmesan, and sweet cherry tomatoes, simple but so delicious. Dessert was a highlight: their tiramisu, layered in a glass jar, was light, creamy, and paired perfectly with the complimentary limoncello and meloncello shots. They give you so many little extras that make you feel special like a starter when you sit down from the chef and some lemon sorbet after your meal. The drinks are good. So glad we found this place. We wanted a nice dinner spot that would have a sunset view but not at Michelin prices. To our surprise, this place gave us that and MORE! Reservations open 30 days out. About a week prior to your booked reservation, they email you to ask if you would need a shuttle. The complimentary shuttle is excellent considering how we could barely get a taxi in Positano. We were welcomed and brought to a table quickly after our arrival. Because our reservation was so early, we were able to pick a nice spot along the balcony to get a direct view. Service was great and the food was better. We split the house wine, grilled octopus, catch of the day, bolognese, and ended with the citrus tiramisu. Everything was delicious! I really enjoyed the freshness and char of the grilled octopus and still think about it till this day. Our citrus tiramisu was different but was delicious nonetheless. When looking up the restaurant we noticed it was a but far from our hotel but as the day got closer to our reservation we received an email from the restaurant about their free shuttle service! So from the beginning we experienced amazing service with the shuttle service. Once we got to the restaurant we were greeted by our waiter who sat us by the window with an amazing view. We ordered the bruschetta and the shrimp as an appetizer. Both were delicious! For our main dishes we ordered the eggplant, sea bass and raviloi. The sea bass was absolutely delicious! Ok I'm honestly sad because i had high hopes for this place. We had a reservation and we had to wait twenty minutes at least. They tried to make up for it by free drinks and two free appetizers which is nice. To be fair they were PACKED so that's why they couldn't seat us. But since they were packed I had high hopes for the food and drinks. They had a long list of spritz and it was disappointing they all tasted like chemicals. For the food the salad was good ( even though they gave me the wrong one). The two free appetizers though were disappointing. The bruschetta cut up my mouth because the bread was so hard, and the zucchini flowers just tasted burnt. I got the pasta with tomato sauce because I wasn't that hungry. It was not great the actual pasta was fine but the sauce tasted watered down. The ambience had potential to be good maybe on a less busy day. The service was slow and when it's crowded like that it's understandable. We started with the calamari. Nice and crispy. The pastas were very tasty but I wished they had helped cracked or shelled the lobster more. The porter house was better then the tomahawk but both were delicious. Could not have asked for a better meal. Staff was so friendly and efficient. Il Ritrovo is high up in the hills and they will send a van to pick you up and drop you back of at your hotel. This was probably the prettiest restaurant that I ate at during my trip to Italy. I loved the simple and elegant all white decor and of course the views are absolutely stellar. Service and hospitality is warm and you get a lot of really nice freebies with the meal. We started off with some small comped bites of fried potatoes and bruschetta. When you end the meal you are given a frozen blended limoncello (super different from the regular limoncello that most spots served) along with a spice packet for you to make your own pasta dish at home. For an app we started out with zucchini stuffed squash blossoms. I didn't see this on too many other menus and it was super unique and different. Anything stuffed with fresh ricotta is excellent and the squash blossoms were no different. For my main I went with a sausage pasta dish. Again, sausage is something you really don't see on most other menus in Italy. I wasn't totally wowed by this, but it was super hearty and comforting. In hindsight I probably should have gone with something a little more traditional! For some unique menu items and warm hospitality in a beautiful and swanky setting this is a solid pick for dinner in Positano. read more

What can I say about the cooking class at Il Ritrovo? Well, whatever I say is simply not good enough. Chef Salvatore Barba's instruction, was simple, informative and fun. His personable demeanor and entertaining style (and patience), made everyone comfortable with each dish he guided us through. Along with host, Cassia (Salvatore's wife) and Assistant Antonella, we students got everything we needed to create a full multi-course Italian meal, from Antipasto to Dolce. I loved every minute of it. And the second best part of it was that we actually got to sit down to a lunch of our own making. Okay, okay. Chef Salvatore and Antonella finished up our creations and beautifully plated them as well. I have to give credit where the real credit is due. But why only the second best part, you ask? Well, for me the best part was talking with each of our teachers and getting to know them--Salvatore, the professor and Cassia, our gracious host. A special shout out to Antonella, who after chatting with her about her home region of Basilicata became like an old friend reminiscing about days past and present. Thank you so much for that homey moment. I wish we had even more time to get to know each other. I highly recommend trying this out. The service was a little strange... our waitress wouldn't bring us espresso martinis at the end of our meal, which is fair enough if they're swamped, but then outside the restaurant she yelled at us about wanting the shuttle home we were promised which was weird and unnecessary. The food was mostly excellent. We had an octopus appetizer, truffle mushroom pasta, a pasta bolognese, and a fried seafood platter. All was great except for the fried seafood platter, which was heavy and had a lot of smelt as opposed to calamari or octopus. The bad parts of the experience were getting there and the wait. They have a shuttle that is supposed to pick you up from your hotel at a requested time and take you to the restaurant (which is super nice to offer!) however the shuttle came a half hour late. We had pretty much given up on it coming and were trying to figure out alternate plans when it arrived. Then when we got to the restaurant, even though we had a reservation, we had to wait over an hour. So by the time we started eating, it was almost 2 hours past our reservation time. I'm not sure if this was an unusually busy night for them, but there were at least 5 other couples in the same situation who were waiting an hour with us. The other problem is, because it's so high up on a hill away from everything else, once you're there, you're kind of stuck with no other options! We still had a good meal but it was a little spoiled by all the waiting leading up to it. read more

We wanted a place up on the hill for dinner and our hotel recommended this restaurant so they helped us make a reservation for them the night before. The restaurant offers a shuttle to pick you up from your hotel and drops you off at the restaurant and takes you back after your meal. They also use fresh ingredients and a master chef runs the kitchen. The shuttle was a tad bit late picking us up but they had 2 other couples in the car already and there is one lane going up and down the hill side so traffic can be a bit congested. When they say this is on top of the cliff.. it is on top top! We went up the windy roads and continued going up further and further. The restaurant was located in this square with 2-3 other restaurants but it had such a amazing open view. The place was modern and chic and well decorated. They give you a glass of sparkly and a little fried appetizer compliment of the chef when you sit down. We had the rock Lobster and spaghetti and it was phenomenal. Full of flavor and the spaghetti cooked to perfection. This was the favorite of the night. The truffle ravioli with cheese was a bit on the heavy side and the seafood fantasy was ok. The staff at Il Ritrovo went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant evening. I made reservations via email that were confirmed in a timely manner. We were picked up at the promised time and location. I informed them that I would be proposing to my girlfriend earlier in the day, and that this dinner would be celebrating our special moment. We received a warm welcome from the staff that included a welcome drink and complimentary bruschetta appetizer. We ordered grilled mozzarella with arugula and cherry tomatoes, which was delicious. For the main course, it was the T-Bone steak for two. The steak was cooked perfectly and sliced for each person to have their desired selection of meat. This meals was accompanied by equally amazing vegetables, grilled to perfection. Dessert was a traditional tiramisu that did not disappoint. Along side were two complimentary sparkling wines, flavored with strawberry. For me, this place was a complete miss. It was just too good to be true; a 7 minute walk with a spectacular view. We started with dirty martinis with the most amazing olives I have ever eaten and then followed that with tasty grilled octopus. About 30-40 minutes later, the main entrees finally arrived and they were much less than just underwhelming. The food was warm, not hot and and both dishes were sadly very bland. The lobster portion was very tiny with hardly any meat (see photo). My sausage was really just plain ground beef, not spiced. I was extremely disappointed with the main dishes. There was even a cover charge that I never knew existed for restaurants (see receipt)! This meal was not a good first impression of Positano's food scene. read more

THE BEST IN POSITANO This ristorante was my absolute favorite of Positano. This spot wasnt even planned we just rolled the dice after another reservation fell through. AMAZING! This is a hidden gem in the positano cliff side. It's a family owned restaurant and they use vegetables grown in their garden. The food was delicious! You could tell the pasta was handmade.
