The most amazing experience so far in Positano. Private cooking class with chef Salvatore. From the minute we walked in - we felt comfortable and welcome. We prepared fresh pasta and ravioli, an appetizer (zucchini flower tempura), and a delicate sea bass with tomatoes from the garden. Dessert was cookies - "brutti ma buoni" - "ugly but good." The restaurant itself is classy - high in the hills above Positano with a spectacular view. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a true local experience. I just got back from here about ten minutes ago. It was all very good! My boyfriend (seafood monster) and I had a lovely time. He got the €45 fixed seafood menu and I got random items on the menu: His: -Seafood fantasy appetizer. Huge! Two kinds of salmon, including his favorite, smoked salmon. I loved the little breaded shrimp any tempura white fish. -seafood pasta. Light and refreshing with lots of cherry tomatoes. -fish with potatoes and cherry tomatoes. I loved the potatoes, but there were only a few chunks of them. Be careful with the fish! There are lots of bones! -Tiramisu- couldn't taste any of the lady fingers. Different from other tiramisu I've had. It tasted more like aerated cream. Hers: Sausage and local cheese appetizer. Excellent! Lots of items on the wood cutting board. There was a small bowl of olives with artichokes with the cheese and meats. They were so good!! The artichokes tasted grilled. Pumpkin gnocchi. Very unique! There were chunks of real pumpkin and shrimp. Eat it, pumpkin spice without real pumpkin phenomenon. The sauce was also a little spicy, which was a pleasant surprise! The chef offered free bruschetta and a shot of a wine dessert. We got a free mini bottle of wine to take home. If you go, make reservations in advance and respond to chef Salvatore's email to confirm your reservation. The free shuttle was prompt and actually free. The drive up is beautiful. This is a wonderful place to have lunch or dinner . Both dishes we had were amazing we ordered the grilled octopus as a starter which was very tasty it's a must try even if you don't like Octopus . My girlfriend had the 5 cheese ravioli which she loved came with 3 ravioli a little on small side but very delicious. And I had the special of the day which was cod fish and just has amazing flavors . Defiantly rated very fresh every single fish we had. This place has a shuttle that takes up there if you don't have a car . My girlfriend and I rented a Vespa for the day and went all the way up there . Garbage. This was the worst food and service thus far in Italy. The pasta was over cooked, my meatballs were cold and the sommelier was terrible. I ordered spaghetti, sent it back due to cold meatballs, was brought out some different type of noodles, and was told I did not order spaghetti...they literally just took it from me 10 minutes prior. The sommelier seemed irritated, understandably, since there was a cattle call of people and 15 tables sat within 10 minutes or so. We did not get to talk to him until after we were done with our appetizer... He just asked what we wanted, it's not like he was pairing it with your good or something, but you have to order the wine through him. The ride up to the top was fine, but the driver was about 15 minuets late. To top it all off, there was literally not a single Italian person eating in here. It was packed with tourists, everyone speaking English. That is clearly a red flag, but what are you supposed to do since you are driven to the top, with no way down. Additionally, they charge 3 Euros per person for the cover charge and 3 Euro for tap water, it is served in a refillable glass bottle. Do yourself a favor and try something else. read more

I had the best ravioli I've ever had in my entire LIFE here! The restaurant is at the very top of the hill -- it would be great while the sun is setting I am sure. We ate here at 8pm, so it was dark by then. They offer a FREE shuttle service which is SO NICE. The service was awesome, the people there are so nice, and the food speaks for itself. Delicious! The Il Ritrovo cooking class that we took while on our honeymoon was one of my absolute favorite experiences! We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent learning how to make authentic, homemade Italian tagliolini pasta, stuffed ravioli, sea bass, zucchini flowers, and desserts! The food was to die for and they even sent us home with all of the recipes so that we could replicate. Salvatore and the entire staff at Il Ritrovo were wonderful and made this experience so much fun! We had a small group of two couples and one solo for five total and it was the perfect size. It was also a massive plus that they offered hotel pickup and drop-off! I would absolutely take this class again and recommend it to anyone! Even more of a plus was that they assured me they would be able to accommodate me as a pescatarian and they did an amazing job of this! The ambiance was totally unexpected given the neighboring structures and the small town. We stumbled upon Il Ritrovo our first afternoon in Montepertuso, as our Airbnb was just across the road. We immediately fell in love with the food and staff and came back every day of our trip. No exaggeration- the staff was so kind, we joined in on celebrating others birthdays, and they made us feel at home! Not to mention the food was amazing, the view was to die for day and night, and the restaurant itself was beautiful!! We were so sad to leave the last night. This was a few months ago (October 2018) and we still tell people to this day that if they go to Positano they have to take the bus up to the restaurant :) I can't wait to someday come back!! read more

My bestie and I stayed two minutes from Il Ritrovo, and ate there for two of the three nights we were there! Hands down the best meals we've had on the trip, and the service was amazing. The first night we had the homemade pasta and Panama cotta. The second night we had the pasta/lobster, the pumpkin gnocchi, and the tiramisu. Amazing!!! The staff was friendly, funny, and top notch. They all remembered us the second night from our first night. I think a thing to remember in Italy, based on some of the reviews I've seen is that it's not like an American restaurant where the staff is constantly checking on you. Stunning restaurant that lies on top of a cliff overlooking the sea. A driver will pick you up from wherever you are staying (many guests make the trip from Positano below) and will bring you to the restaurant; you don't have to worry about finding transportation to get up there. We felt like we were family at Il Ritrovo. We had a wonderful experience and the owner and I realized that his family in New York operates a pizzeria that I grew up going to. The service here was impeccable and we were given a complimentary bottle of wine and spice kit on our way out. The food was already good, but the service made this place extra memorable. We visited in the off-season in early April, but the restaurant was still nearly full and did a great business. Would love to come back the next time we are in the Amalfi Coast region. read more

One hour late picking us up at our hotel, and by the time we took the long and winding road to the top of Positano, we were starved!! Seems like everyone arrived at the same time too, so the waiters were frantic! Not a good start to our evening meal which came highly recommended by our hotel and fellow travelers! Just a warning.. Since we got off to a rocky start, I was hoping for the best but as suspected the quality of service was poor! Although some of the waiters were trying hard to meet everyone's order's, they seemed to forget us (and tables near us) completely and it took more than 45 minutes to receive our first course! And another 45 minutes for our entree's!!Crazy!! The reason I'm giving ristorante Il Ritrovo a level 3stars is because once we got our food it was delicious! The spaghetti with mussels and the beautifully grilled lamb chops were great! But after waiting so long and being so disappointed by the overall lack of service we were annoyed and ready to leave. The waiter explained that they were overbooked and our response was they shouldn't have taken our reservation. It was obvious that this restaurant was not prepared for the number of people to serve so the waiter took the entrees off our bill and we thanked him however we weren't looking for a free meal! When we return to Positano we want to give Il Ritrovo another chance because the food was so good but the circumstances were terrible! We stayed at Le Sirenuse and they recommended us to check this place out for dinner. The called and made reservations for us. The following day they came and shuttle us there and back. We were on our honeymoon for a totally of two weeks in Italy at this point and I was getting tired of pasta but I'm so glad I ordered the lobster pasta. It was delicious! I had high expectations for this place. They shuttle you to the top with breathtaking views and greet you curbside. However, it only went downhill from there. The food was just ok. Nothing truly stood out and the service was lacking. I'm pretty sure they forgot about some of our courses as we had to ask and meals came out at different times. An elegant restaurant with a charming atmosphere. Our Air Bnb host recommended this place, and so we decided to visit it the last evening we were in Positano. An absolutely excellent decision! The staff was exceptionally friendly and polite, and our food was positively wonderful. I ordered the pasta with lobster, and it was quite delight and delicious--fresh tasting and surprisingly light due to the tomatoes, but still with that sweet, almost decadent taste that lobster brings-- and my friend ordered the pasta with clams that came with a light, creamy sauce. Both of our meals were excellent, but I would definitely recommend the clam pasta! While we were waiting, we were brought out some bruschetta with tomatoes and some bread to eat with olive oil and vinegar, and when we were done we were given some small liquors to taste and a plate with a few cookies (also excellent!). A bit spendy, but definitely worth it if you can swing it in your budget. Great food, wonderful service, and an absolutely gorgeous view of Positano! Would definitely recommend. read more

Took a trip to Italy and visited Florence, Venice, Ravello, Almafi, Capri, and Positano. We stumbled across this restaurant and we were SO glad we did! It started with a free shuttle service that picked us up right outside of our AirBnb! He drove us 20 minutes up to Salerno to the restaurant and stopped for a beautiful night picture of Positano. Once we got in, there was only 4 tables of people(this was early Nov). The service was top notch, restaurant was quaint cute and unique with a nice view. We had a glass of champagne on the house, bruschetta(so good) on the house, limoncetta slush shot on the house, and a small bottle of wine on the house! Here's what we ordered: Octopus: perfectly cooked and flavored Lobster pasta: Amazing! There were tiny shrimps on it and it was so flavorful! Top 2 pastas we had in Italy. Ragu: Okay Dessert: So good! Drink: Bottle of champagne Even though a lot of the restaurants were closed in Almafi, we tried our fair share of food on our trip and this was definitely the highlight of our trip to the coast. We even agreed it was one of the best overall restaurant experiences we've ever had hands down! It felt like we were VIP's and they did not want us to leave because they just kept on giving us things to eat and drink before dropping us back off to our AirBnb! This restaurant is a good combo of a casual atmosphere and good food. We ate outside on the deck with a great water view because it was such a nice evening. Since it is so high up the mountain it is very quiet. Our hotel helped us in making the reservation so the restaurant picked us up for the ride up to Montepertuso. It took a good 15-20 minutes to drive up there, but we are glad we made the trip. We started with two pasta dishes. We had a porcini mushroom and cream sauce pasta and a lobster with cherry tomatoes pasta. Both were tasty but we loved the lobster pasta. Really great, the lobster tasted so fresh. For entrees we tried the mixed grilled meats and the chicken/eggplant parm, which were both on the chef's specialty menu. I'd say both were a solid 4 stars. Some of the grilled meat was overcooked but there was a nice variety and the pork was really tender. We shared a bottle of red wine and were given a complementary glass of Prosecco to start, a nice touch. Dinner was about 90 euro, not too bad. I recommend coming here for a quiet dinner with a great view and pretty good food. read more

Was here for dinner and it proved to be lovely. We made reservations and had complimentary pick up in Positano. The drive over to the restaurant, which is on top of a hill, proved to be amazing. They have an extensive wine list that is a size of a book with wines by region. Had the Greek style octopus and it was out of this world amazing. It was a pretty large sized appetizer as well. For main course we split a large seafood pasta dish that was served in a pot. The sauce was brothy and delicious but a tad too salty for my taste. The dessert we wanted was sold out and as per chefs recommendation we had a different type. It was good but nothing special. I will mention that this place was as touristy as you can have. I have not seen one person to speak Italian. Which is fine as the food was good. Now, someone mentioned that the views are great and you can see sunset. The views are great when you are outside of the restaurant looking down. There are window seats in the restaurant but hardly anything can be seen. Il Ritrovo was my favorite meal in Positano, for a variety of reasons. I loved that they send a shuttle to your hotel to pick you up; the ride is pleasant and the views are off of a postcard. The service was 10/10. It's a classy restaurant, but they were extremely accommodating and nice about us having our 14mo old with us. They brought him a stuffed animal, which kept him happy and occupied. The one waitress spent a lot of time with him while my husband and I enjoyed our meals. Everyone was SO nice. The cocktails were great. And the food - OH MY, the pasta with lobster!!!! The liquid was so good I could have drank it like soup and the pasta was homemade and the seafood was fresh. Also, the bill - I thought it was very fair considering the quality of food and amount ordered. 10/10 across the board. I would 100% recommend this restaurant and would absolutely go back. Dined here 3 times during our 4 day trip to Positano. It was conveniently located by our accommodations, but it was the food and service that kept us going back for more. Food: everything we had was delicious and I really don't know why the restaurant is listed with 4 € signs - it is really quite reasonably priced. We had over the course of our visits: - the seafood pasta - perfectly seasoned, clams and mussels were fresh and delicious - sea bass - hefty portion, light and tasty - pasta with smoked provolone sauce and walnuts - creamy, a richer dish but delicious and I like creamy pastas so this was great for me - fried calamari/anchovies- was not expecting to like the fried anchovies but they were so good, I ate all of them - pumpkin gnocchi- very tasty, with little pieces of fresh pumpkin and shrimp: delicious - The piece de resistance- the seafood platter (€60, meant to be for 2 people): this was so delicious and included mussels, clams, fish, prawns, calamari and lobster. The portion was good for 2 people if you didn't consume anything else. If you had pasta or appetizers it can feed 3-4 hungry people, it's huge. Definitely get this at some point. Service: so friendly and quite prompt. They greet you with complimentary hors d'ouvres (each time was something different, all delicious, even the simple bruschetta was yum); and when we were there for dinner we were sent off with a complimentary digestif after our meal. Stopped by on our first day in Positano for lunch and were blown away! Service and food were both top notch and the view can't be beat. We were provided a surprise complementary Bruschetta which included a seafood salad. Both very good. I got the homemade pasta with sausage which was very delicious. My wife got the eggplant parmigiana with smoked cheese. It was also fantastic. The meal was topped off with a complementary lemon sorbet which was a very welcomed alternative to all of the lemoncello we had been served the past few days. Very refreshing! Warm and friendly, impeccable service im a multigenerational restaurant. We arrived without reservations on Good Friday, and they accommodated us nicely.
