After hitting many of the major tourist cities in Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice, Capri), my husband and I were sick of getting soaked at tourist trap restaurants. We Yelped establishments in our out-of-the-way neighborhood of Montepertuso, outside the hot center of Positano with high hopes. La Terra had high ratings and low prices. Our kinda place. Boy, was it. As soon as we sat down, we received complimentary Prosecco and the most yummy amuse bouche. Fried zucchini flower balls stuffed with ricotta, and tasty bruschetta. Free. All free. We didn't want to eat heavily, so we ordered a pasta dish and grilled veggies (see photos) to share. Our attentive waiter responded to our modest order with "perfetto!" Nice. The grilled veggies were savory and the pasta - perfect for two, with generous surprises of capers, olives and cherry tomatoes. The bread was the best we've had in our three weeks in Italy, and I was not able to finish my 1/2 bottle of house red. As an aside, the dusk-time view of the Mediterranean was spectacular. So glad we checked out yelp recommendations. Here in the height of summer, booked a table same day, picked up v promptly from our hotel in Positano and were given a window table so we enjoyed the sunset over the Amalfi coast as we dined. Service was lovely, everything perfectly timed, never rushed, excellent local wine recommendation View was of course amazing Food was delicious: for €135 (2 people) we had a bottle of water, and excellent bottle of local white wine, shared the starter of carpaccio of catch if the day on salad (it was HUGE and full of flavor), the clam, zucchini and zucchini flower pasta which was delectable (this part of the world just generally has the best clams ever) the husband had the seafood gnocchi which he especially praised for the reduction sauce, I had thin fillets of swordfish coated in almonds, with toasted almonds Sprinkled on top in a lemon sauce. Absolutely delicious. Also had a delicious amuse bouche of mixed cheese dumpling in a tomato sauce which was also brilliant. I highly recommend their POLIPO CROCCANTE SU CREMA DI PATATE E CHIPS DI TOPINAMBUR (crispy octopus on creamed potatoes and chips of topinambur) from their appetizer courses. The octopus was very flavourful and it paired nicely with fresh, crispy chips and the smooth creamed potatoes. This a great restaurant and we had a great experience. Its high above Positano in hills, actually in the town of Montepertuso. So it has spectacular views. You'll need reservations, and if you reserve far enough in advance, you can get a window-side table. The food is all freshly-made or caught; emphasis on local seafood, but the menu is pretty broad. The manager and his staff are very attentive, and delighted to help you consider and choose. We had a number of standout dishes there, including a grilled vegetable appetizer (which could've been a two-person entree by itself) and Local lobster served with a spicy fettucine. The wine list is great, and the prices for wine quite reasonable. They also have very good local Vino de Casa, which are less expensive, but complement the local food very well. here again the staff are very helpful in making choices. Because Montepertuso isn't walking distance from downtown Positano, they have a shuttle service that will come pick you up and drop you back off. A nice perk, and prompt too. They arrived EXACTLY on the time they promised. All in all, a great, classy and memorable experience. My litmus test for this sort of local restaurant is, "am I at all reluctant to divulge this special place to even more people?" I this case, my extreme reluctance is only tempered by my enthusiasm and desire to make them prosper. Its a great place. read more

We had an amazing lunch at La Terra! Our tour guide recommended and brought us after our long hike. We were starving. It was late afternoon so we had the place to ourselves. The views are amazing and they opened windows for us. The service was impeccable. We started with salad, prosciutto and mozzarella, and the best minestrone I've eaten made with vegetables they grow in their garden. Next we had Spaghetti Pomodoro, Spaghetti Bolognese, and a fresh Amberjack fish fillet with lemon sauce. All were delicious! read more

A fantastic spot with a great view of Positano. They also run a free shuttle service. The food can not be faulted such great flavour and sizing. I shared an Entree with my wife which was the antipasto platter, This was absolutely loaded with cold cuts of meat. For mains I had the grilled prawns and she had the spaghetti bolognese with a side dish of grilled vegitables all very substantial sizes. Rock star restaurant that grows their own produce. The restaurant is way up the mountain built into the side overlooking Positano. Again, amazing fresh seafood. Some of the best service we had in Italy. We all tried different entrees and loved everyone of them. Just spectacular. We loved our visit to La Terra for lunch. The gentleman who picked us up at our hotel was a great driver, very hard working, and very friendly. Loved his music in the car! He also makes an incredible lemoncello spritzer drink! Best one we had on our trip!! Literally tears of happiness as we feasted on the most gorgeously plated food. Fresh seafood, greens from the garden, and each plate decorated with flowers and herbs. Incredible dinner one night in Positano. We were recommended this place by our hotel and the restaurant sent a shuttle down to pick us up (complimentary) since it is located so far above where we were staying. A charming place away from the bustle of Positano. The tomatoes for the Caprese salad were ripe and married perfectly with the fresh and tasty mozzarella. Sparse on the basil and dressed as we liked, it was a great place for the Italian salad. The mussels were in a tomato sauce that tasted like it'd been marinating all day. Light, but flavorful. The spinach ravioli was simply divine. Balanced well with spinach and cheese, the sause complemented the flavorful pasta. To end, we enjoyed the delectable profiteroles. La Terra was my No.1 meal on my Amalfi Coast trip. We ate at many good, handpicked restaurants on our 10 day Amalfi Coast trip as my wife and I are foodies. And this was the best. Not the best tasting - that would be Bagni Delfino in Sorrento. Not the cheapest either. But the value and quality combination was the best. Value - menu seems expensive on first glance. €10-14 for appetisers, €16-25 for mains. But the portions are huge. I would recommend to order one app and one main to share between two. You also get a free starter - zucchini flower stuffed with ricotta cheese. Taste - all three dishes we had were amazing. Garden vegetable appetiser, lemon risotto (came in a baked parmesan basket!) and pasta with mussels, aubergine, and smoked cheese. How to get there - take the bus, to one stop after the main Montepertuso stop. Then walk slightly up the hill for 3-5 minutes. The bus stop going back to Positano is directly across the road from La Terra. read more

The service is top notch and they will come get you and take you home to your hotel / Airbnb so that is an amazing service. This was the priciest dinner we had in Positano, very seafood based. This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the Airbnb that we stayed in while visiting Positano. La Terra is located high up in the hills of Positank, and I mean high up! The restaurant has a car service that will come pick you up and drop you off after dinner. Very, very convenient. Views from that far up are breathtaking! You can see all the way to Capri and the 3 rocks. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Between the three of us, we ordered the red snapper, pumpkin risotto and salads. As others have mentioned, we were able to get picked up at our hotel and driven to the restaurant, about a 25 minute drive on a hair-raising road. Fortunately, we also got a ride back to our hotel after we were done. The view is spectacular and the food is very good. The prices are modest compared to the Positano beach front restaurants. The food is much better. We started by ordering the house white wine, at €16 a blessing, a very pleasant Fiano. We shared the minestrone soup, unlike any minestrone I have ever had. It was made with vegetables fresh from the garden and was delicious. This was followed by our entrées. I had a sea bass with a butter and garlic sauce. My wife had homemade pasta with garden vegetables. Both were very good. After the entrées, I had a salad, Again quite fresh and tasty. We mixed our own olive oil and balsamic dressing. Given the view, The free transportation, and the quality of the food, this place is a bargain. By no means was it cheap, costing us about $99, but we felt it was money well spent for a memorable luncheon well away from the crowds and the disappointing, overpriced food served by the beachfront restaurants. read more

Definitely not a 5 star restaurant. Hair in bolognese pasta dish. Ravioli "LA TERRA" was blatantly fresh but then frozen and it tasted reheated. The mussels appetizers says pepper mussels but they have no flavor and no sauce, just served plain in a half a bowl of broth. Long drive from Positano... not sure which shuttle driver the rest of the Yelpers had but I wouldn't describe him as "friendly" being that he doesn't speak to you the entire drive up. When we arrived there are tables along the window that obviously have a better view and tables in the center. There are only two tables for four against the window and no one was seated at them when we arrived yet we were seated in the middle section. We asked if we could change to the window seats and they said they were reserved. No one sat at one of the tables the entire time we were there... OK THEN. The view isn't that unbelievable to be worth this long drive. You are also inside as the outside is for "lunch only" ?????? They felt bad that the reservation didn't come and that there was hair in the food so they did remove the dish from the check. read more

This restaurant was wonderful! The hubs and Decided to come here after reading some reviews and we weren't disappointed! We split everything we had, an appetizer (the Italian appetizer)' the 1st course (the risotto), the 2nd course (the banzoni with onions) and the dessert! So tasty! The house wine was wonderful too. The view is worth the price of the food, trust me. In regards to the reservation; after we read reviews saying we needed one we called on the day of our dinner at 1 pm and easily got a reservation for 630. We arrived early at 620 and they seated us. We went here twice on our trip to Positano. The restaurant is located about a 15 minute drive outside of Positano in a small town high on the mountain called Montepertuso. They had a free shuttle pick us up from our hotel and drive us to the restaurant. The shuttle drivers were very nice and even stopped to let me take some pictures! The view from this restaurant is fantastic, especially on a clear night around sunset. The first time we went was on a week night. We got an amazing table with a view of the ocean, had great service, and delicious food. The portions are generous and they give you a yummy complimentary appetizer and glass of champagne when you arrive. The first night I ordered the prosciutto and melon, and it was delicious! The Italian antipasto was also great, especially if you enjoy cured meat! For my main dish I ordered the homemade gnocchi and tomato sauce with mozzarella. It was delicious and I had leftovers to take home. My husband ordered a homemade pasta dish with seafood with an orange and lemon sauce, which he LOVED. For dessert we had the panacotta, which was also great. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. We left feeling happy and full! We returned to this restaurant a few nights later on a Saturday. The restaurant was much busier and there did not seem to be the wait staff to support the higher volume of business. The food was good, but we did not have quite as positive of an experience as the previous visit. The menu offers a wide choice and the chef delivers a fine dining experience in a comfortably informal dining room with stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. This restaurant follows a "farm to table" policy ("dall'orto alla tavola") made possible by organic farming on terraced grounds surrounding the establishment. My roasted vegetable appetizer was a winner. My party enjoyed sharing a heavenly pasta dish with fresh fish and cherry tomatoes and a veal dish in a light lemon sauce. I never give restaurant reviews but this place deserves some kudos. We were provided with a free shuttle service from our hotel to La Terra by a very friendly driver who offered information about the area and pointed out particularly nice views on the way up. The free Prosecco and free appetizer were great. The view from our table was incredible as we watched the sun set over the coast. The staff were very friendly. My wife ordered linguini with lobster and I ordered gnocchi with clams and shrimp. After eating at a hotel restaurant the night before, which was disappointingly Americanized, we were surprised to receive our fresh seafood still in its shell. Then, the owner and staff played the saxophone and sang us a song. When we received our dessert, we were offered Limoncello as well, which we expected to pay 5 Euro a piece. But this was free too!
