I typically LOVE this place and rave about it. Yesterday's experience was definitely subpar. Longer wait for food (about 45 min) than normal. Waitress was nice and gave free dessert to make up for it. Arugula on pizza was soggy - also not typical. But biggest issue was how 4 of the 5 staffers that I saw were not wearing masks properly - even when in food prep area. All were under the nose and 3 were not even completely covering the mouth - rendering them totally ineffective. One waiter had it hanging around his neck! You could See the lips of our waitress the entire time. Only One staffer kept it on properly the entire time. Would not eat here during pandemic. read more

Not good. It used to be REALLY good, and worthy of the wait and price. They have jacked prices up so high (you can, we contributed to shortages) while serving crap food. Think of ordering a pizza that's supposed to feature a mix of mushrooms, olives and artichokes, getting one that has like a single button mushroom sliced, thrown on a corner, a single artichoke used to cover the entire pie (which is only like 9", mostly dough/crust), 3 pieces of mozzarella, sauce that tastes like tomato puree, half a leaf of basil ripped into 3 pieces, 5 kalamata olives. Def not worth $10, let alone $20. Plus crust burned to charcoal. They don't care and it shows. Even the "brushcetta" appetizer ($16) was like 4 slices of stale dark rye bread (Def NOT a baguette as expected) with a single cherry tomato sliced across (one slice of cherry tomato per slice of bread), 2 pea sized balls of mozzarella on the 2 end pieces. They even serve some kind of "honey bread" loaf like Texas Road House when you get seated (actually usually later, because it's so packed), but with unseasoned olive oil??? Why not garlic breadsticks or herb infused olive oil? My boyfriend ordered a pasta dish, mostly pasta (no surprise). My son ordered a pizza, also kinda like mine, his was supposed to feature sausage, meats, etc. We swapped a few slices and the meat on his tasted "foul", expired. I gave him the look. We didn't want to hurt my boyfriend's feelings because we'd wanted to go for so long, and it was his Christmas gift to us, plus my birthday gift, cost him almost $100 for the 3 of us, HUGE splurge. The margarita pizza here SLAPS! It was truly delicious. The pizza had a nice crust-to-topping ratio, where it felt like the main part of the pizza was thin crust while the actual crust had the feel of a regular pizza. Anyways, the bread served before our meal was good and hearty, I had three pieces, but our server took away our olive oil and set it at another table. But we managed without our olive oil. A slice of Italy in the middle of Sheboygan! We live in Milwaukee and visit Sheboygan at least a couple times per year. No trip would be complete without a stop here for lunch. I've been to Italy twice in my life (but never Naples) and have found that the Pizza here is every bit as amazing as any pie I've ever enjoyed on the Boot. I typically go for the Sausage and Mushroom, but have enjoyed the Calabrese on several occasions. I love that the pies are simple but the flavors are complex. Every great pizza begins with the crust and Il Ritrovo nails it. Nothing like a 800 deg oven to cook that crust just right in a few minutes... Although I have seen other patrons enjoying non-pizza dishes here, I just can't bring myself to do it. I can't miss out!! Service here is always exceptional! That's one thing that they have on Italy, they don't have friendly servers from the Midwest!! I give Il Ritrovo and the other restaurants in the owner's group credit for really taking Sheboygan's image up a few notches. When Stefano's opened years ago, we drove up from Milwaukee to see what the raves were all about. Stefano's became our twice a month culinary journey, & when Il Ritrovo opened, we would order two pizzas to go after dinner, and bring them back to Bayside. Years have passed, I am old, Stefano is middle aged, Lino owns his own place, and Il Retrivo is better than ever. We flew back to Wisconsin from SLC for a wedding in Sheboygan and ate lunch at Il Retrivo before the wedding. Pizza was Napoli good. Pastas were what I wish was served in Salt Lake City, al dente with savory, but light saucing. Service was Wisconsin nice with Italian pronunciation. What a great find in Sheboygan. I found it by accident, as nothing else was open on a Monday night. Being in the city for work (for 6 months) it is now my go-to when people come to town. The pizzas are great as I love Neopolitan with very fresh ingredients. The Procuitto Crudo E Ruchetta was amazing. The appetizers are great, and I love the Fonduta Al Forno or a salad of Pomodori E Gorgonzola. Great find! read more

This is not Pizza Hut or a pan pizza - it's more of a Neopolitan style. You might be disappointed if you were looking for something else especially if your kids are picky eaters. In Chicago, good Neopolitan pizza is hard to come by. Even those that try to do Neopolitan don't do it right. A good Neopolitan is characterized by a thin chewy slightly charred crust with minimal toppings and Ritrovo does it right. We scarfed down two pies in order to enjoy their peak. I could not have been more excited to come here. Came down for a hockey camp. Man at the door was polite and helpful, there was a wait and we could do take out from the bar. The 2 Bartenders walked past numerous times didn't not acknowledge us. Help others that came after us. Even with us seated at the bar we sat with no service or acknowledgment. 30 minutes we waited. I can't believe that it has taken this long for us to get to this place. We absolutely loved it! Some of the best pizza I have ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot of pizza, in my time, all over the country. Pizzas run in the price range of $11-20 and really are meant to feed 1-2 people. My wife and I each got our own, but if you get a larger app and a salad you could split 1 pizza. We saw some couples doing that, but for the most part everyone had their own. Their toppings run towards the more traditional, Italian toppings so you won't find pepperoni or a Hawaiian pizza, but instead you get simply made tomato sauce (if sauced at all), high quality cheeses, meats and vegetables. It's an eye opener for people that have never experienced what high quality, traditional pizza can be like. Our server, a young man named Alex, was awesome. Very personable and able to answer any question we had. His charming personality, and quick efficiency truly enhanced our experience. So why didn't I give this 5 stars? It's because of the bar, which started off our experience, and which honestly made my question my choice, at first. My wife wanted a ginger ale to settle her stomach before we sat down for dinner so I asked the bartender if they had ginger ale as not all places carry it anymore. He gave me a look like I was an idiot for even asking-of course they did. Then, the $10 cocktail I ordered wasn't very good. The description claims to use homemade sour mix. That mix turned out to be straight lemon juice. While my cocktail wasn't bad, it was very unbalanced and could have used just a bit of sweetener to balance it out. I don't know if he grabbed the wrong bottle or forgot to add some sweetener to my drink, but either way, it wasn't very good. I have no problems paying $10-12 for a cocktail, but for that price I expect it to be well made. Despite those first missteps, we will definitely be back. The pizza, alone, is worth it, and the service, for the most part is great. We'll even try the bar again, hoping that it was just an off night for them. read more

I grew up in Sheboygan and Il Ritrovo has always been an incredible restaurant to go with friends, for date night, or just a quick meal. Every time I am back in town this is a must with old high school friends. Their pizzas are absolutely delicious, but on my most recent visit I ordered the pasta on their lunch menu. So delicious, what's wrong with carbs at 11AM? I also love their wine selection. They also have a delicious blood orange mimosa that is perfect for brunching. The only complaint I would have is that sometimes the waiters and waitresses can be a little snotty or stuck-up. This is the real deal. Yes...real Italian food in Sheboygan. Everything we had was delicious, including the tarimisu.

While on a local getaway, my family (14 total) celebrated a birthday here. We came in with no expectations and were blown away but the extremely fresh delicious food. The service was authentic and caring. The server even walked my brother to the bar next door to introduce him to the bartender as he was looking for a unique spirit. They customized and prioritized kids meals for us, were considerate of each phase of dinner service and just wow'ed us across the board. Terrible experience unfortunately. We were completely neglected. Seated by the host, and then 20 minutes later our waitress still had not come to the table for an initial check in. Meanwhile, the the table next to us, who were seated 10 minutes after us, got a visit from a waitress immediately after sitting. My wife is five months pregnant, and we needed something to eat. This restaurant made my family and I feel welcomed. They took great care of us and the waiter had some great stories and had us laughing. He tried to engage our son but being a shy guy our 5 year old was not into it lol but the owner made sure my son had crayons and coloring pages. He was so into the coloring that my husband and I were able to enjoy the mussel and bruschetta appetizers and our drinks (red wine and Spotted cow [mucca mucalada in italian]). I gave only 4 starts just because I thought some of our dishes could have used a little more salt in my opinion. I am always looking for that local gem that is worth a day trip for. Il Ritrovo is that place. The pizza is authentic Napolitain pizza. The arrancini are to die for. Everything is scratch made, and you can get good wine, fantastic mixed drinks with house made infusions. For dessert they have creamy gelato. What's not to love! We were looking for a great Italian restaurant on our road trip to eastern Wisconsin and did we ever hit the jackpot here. We stopped in for lunch around 1:15. They had nice outside seating that we thought we would try but after a couple minutes in the brisk wind the staff graciously sweated us inside. We were immediately served warm crusty bread and delicious olive oil while we waited for our drinks. My husband ordered the rigatoni with mushrooms and sausage and I ordered the salad with tuna, boiled eggs and fennel. Both were amazing. Service was great and post lunch we browsed their deli and grocery. We picked up some of the mixed Mediterranean olives that my husband said were the best olives he has ever tasted. I know what you're thinking-- Why is a New Yorker going to Wisconsin to eat pizza?! I know. I wondered the same thing and was very hesitant when the native Wisconsinites described Il Ritrovo's wood-fired oven and amazing pizzas. What could they know?! However, all doubts were dismissed when I was presented with the Funghi Pizze that was both beautiful and delicious. A neapolitan pizza with mushrooms, bufala mozzarella, and basil. The ingredients were fresh & flavorful, and the amount of toppings were just right so the crust was not overloaded and soggy. The crust was also nicely charred, yet maintained that doughy chew that I love and crave. I also had the pleasure of trying the Forte Pizze, with kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, and onions, as well as the Mushroom Ravioli which were both specials of the day and both very good. Bottom line, Il Ritrovo is legit and could stand it's own against any neopolitan pizzerias in New York! (Ok, ok... maybe not Paulie Gee's, Keste, or Lucali... but you know what I mean.) read more

I've been here three times in all... Before tonight, the last time was three years ago. I thought maybe my memory deceived me... maybe, I wondered, I was being to hard on a well-loved place. Why do I doubt myself? Particularly when it comes to a restaurant owned by Stefano? This place is literally the worst pizza place in town. Ironically, it is also the most hyped. Stefano - I learned that his flagship restaurant was terrible when we first moved here, and that his 'specials' were leftover crap. If you know anything about restaurants, you know specials can be leftovers the restaurant needs to get rid of, or actual genius creations divined by a dedicated chef. At all of his restaurants, his 'specials' are the former. Sadly, my husband got the special salad of the day - which looked like two piles of vomit on the plate. Beets mixed with ...mayo and eggs...!? Terrible salad in between, and some meat-goo on the other side. I thought I'd order two pizzas to give each a try (red and white): Giuseppe 14.50 Tomato, mozzarella, chopped tomatoes, onions, sopressa salami, Calabrian chili paste, mascarpone Really - the meat was the only thing that had flavor, and that flavor was salt. Otherwise this pizza was bland and entirely disappointing. They really have guts at this restaurant to imply the 'chili paste is mixed with marinara to add a hint of spice' - really? No... no there was no taste at all! Next up: Boscaiola 17.50 Mushrooms, mozzarella, rosemary, truffle cheese, smoked mozzarella pancetta Truffle cheese? Where? Nowhere! Not even a *hint* of truffle oil. Rosemary? Again - where? This pizza blew my husband away with it's saltiness, and that was literally all we could taste. That and some oil. Just stop, people of Sheboygan. Really, just stop. Go to Lino's, go to Harry's Prohibition, go to Blind Horse and get the flatbreads outside. Get real, decent, well-sourced, superbly crafted pizza so you can TELL the difference between good, real food and tripe - and then, and only then, will you be able to and *desire to* demand better from places like this, Il Ritrovo et al, that stay in business by pulling the wool over your eyes. "Go to Sheboygan, the country's best Neapolitan-style pizza is there!" Sheboygan? My wife and I visited Kohler this weekend and I've been hearing about Il Ritrovo ever since declaring Spacca Napoli my favorite taste of Italy. Everybody knows where I'm having my last meal -- check out my bio, homes. Jonathon makes a mean pizza pie. But every time I mention Spacca, someone always has to chime in with "yeah, but what about that place in Sheboygan?" You know that baller from across town you never met but always heard had your game beat, knowwhatI'msayin'? No? Not so much. "Il Ritrovo! The famous pizzeria," they shout. "Il Ritrovo! Certified by an international Neapolitan-style pizza federation!" (Seriously, someone told me this. There is a certification for Neapolitan Style Pizza, conducted by L'Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. Il Ritrovo and Spacca Napoli are among the fewer than 20 pizza places that have received this designation) So we went to Kohler and gave the arch nemesis a try. We asked everyone around our hotel if they had heard of Il Ritrovo, and each inquiry was met with wide eyes and an "Ooooohhhh, IL RITROOOOVO!!!" Kind've crazy, this king pin of wood-fired delights, tucked away in sleepy Sheboygan had developed quite the reputation. On a Spring Saturday night, when there were no cars nor pedestrians in site, we walked into Il Ritrovo and there were all the people of Sheboygan. The restaurant was jam packed with people and pizzas. Fortunately, there is a wonderful side-by-side grocery store under the same ownership, complete with an enoteca-style bar. Our bartender was well-versed in Italian wines and enthusiastic about their current offerings. We sat there with glasses of a nice, dry prosecco, awaiting our much-anticipated meal and got up a few times to stroll the coolers of local meats and cheeses, the shelves imported italian olive oils and sweets and plenty of other gourmet impulse buys. We were seated just as we finished our glasses and were met with great energy by our waiter. The menu at Ritrovo is wonderfully diverse, filled with salads, soups, pizzas and pastas, but there was no questioning what we were in for. We ignored most of our waiters introduction to specials and went right for the pizza. Man. It's war, Spacca. We started with beautful mixed green salad that included bufalina mozzarella that was tangy, herby and juicy in the center. Damn. Warm crusty bread soaked up a nice vinaigrette. I had an agenda. One white pizza. One red Pizza. I needed buffalo mozzarella and I craved a good prosciutto di parma. Our waiter recommended a special red pizza featuring salami, onions and a red chili paste. Different, but delicious. Very spicy, but the meat was extraordinary. And balanced perfectly with a lighter, creamier white pizza consisting of buffalo mozzarella, buffalo ricotta, prosciutto di parma and arugula. This was the pizza that made the trip worth it. The crust is perfect, with little charred peaks on the heal and a slightly crispy thin bottom. The cheese was oozing, the prosciutto was delicate and fresh. Our wine? Average. Priced inexpensively with a nice variety, my wife's chianti was okay. My Shiraz was perhaps at the end of it's life cycle. I give this team a bonus, however, for offering an atypical wine list and being a bit adventurous (no Viettis or Santa Margheritas or Ruffinos). I may not drive all the way to Sheboygan to eat at Il Ritrovo again, but their Neapolitan-style pizza is knock out, rivaling, but not surpassing, Spacca Napoli's. I love the combination gourmet shop, wine bar and restaurant. I love the expansive menu, the enthusiasm and a truly unique offering in the middle of this distant resort town. This place would be packed in Chicago. Go. Get two pizzas, one for you, one for your date, mix them up and mangia. read more
