Downright fantastic - a little gem! I just realised I never finished this review originally but I vividly remember the place for fantastic Italian food and extremely friendly service. Trust the wine recommendation, you won't be disappointed. It's small - book in advance! Edit: after coming here again recently with three friends I can only double down on that original five star review. Burrata for a starter - melt in your mouth, the pasta main was on point, dessert (pears in chianti with ice cream) a dream, and the service couldn't be nicer. Came at lunch when it is much less crowded. You need to make reservations for dinner. Service is nice, portions are small and food is overrated. The Calamari was good, bruschetta was small. It was good but not great. Pasta with sea bad had tiny pieces of fish. Tagliatelle with eggplant had tiny pieces of eggplant the ravioli with beef and cream sauce was very good. Pasta dishes were pretty small. Go for lunch to try the place but not worth it for dinner. read more

Overall the best experience so far in Dublin. I would recommend making a reservation since it is a very small restaurant and gets very crowded. You are greeted by the amazing, friendly staff when you enter. The service they would provide is extraordinary! Even though the restaurant is crowded, you do not feel rushed. Everyone takes their time to enjoy their meal like you are having dinner at a friend/relative's home. The food & wine are amazing. Home made pastas were delicious. Temple bar area on Crow street. Intimate place that seats about 30 people. It's a wonderful place with very personable staff. We walked in on a Friday around 5:30 with a group of five and no reservation. The staff was very pleasant and transparent in offering us a table but explaining they had a reservation to honor at 7:00 pm. We readily accepted as we have been here in the past and know it is worth the slight decrease from the usual 2 hour experience. The pasta is freshly made and the wines are very reasonable. To be perfectly honest the staff is great and was wonderful with our daughter. Prices are very reasonable and nice selection. We started with an antipasto platter and some pasta and risotto. Our daughter started immediately with the linguini and seafood (she loved it with the abundance of seafood). The pasta was home made and wonderful texture. Wife had the t bone steak which was nice but as always in Italian places just overshadowed by the pasta and risotto. Dessert closed of the meal and another bottle of wine. Overall this is a must go to place so as to be able to have something other than another Irish meal. read more

We had an 8 PM reservation on what turned out to a very busy night.The food was delicious but the experience was not pleasant. Very crowded and deafeningly loud, with tiny tables inches apart. The waitstaff lost interest in us when we did not order alcoholic drinks.They do not carry nonalcoholic beer and when I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino, was told "the bar is out" of lemons, although our food was liberally garnished with lemon wedges. A half hour wait for the apps, which were delicious when they arrived (fried squid and spicy prawns).We both had pasta with venison ragu, choosing a fast meal rather than a long wait for a subsequent main dish and because we could not converse. Things looked up a bit when the owner and then staff came by with the check and discovered we spoke Italian, so were friendlier. However, we would not return there. read more

I wanted to like this place a lot more than I did. When we arrive, te restaurant was half empty, and when one of the waiters finally acknowledged us, he looked extremely stressed out and told us he didn't have any seats for us, as the rest of them were reserved for later that night. He then proceeded to give us a table in the middle of all the traffic, and oddly enough, despite being in the way of all the waiters, we were forgotten about for the first portion of our meal. When we finally ordered and all of our apps were great, but then there was confusion with our entrees and the waiter tried to correct us and make us eat something we didn't order. Also, half of our table got our dinner, while the other half did not, so that was also displeasing. I would suggest this place, as long as you make a reservation or get there before it's hopping, because otherwise, something will disappoint you. The food was quite decent though. read more

A cozy gem hidden away on a side street in the Temple Bar area of south side Dublin. The staff is very welcoming, but know that you likely can't just walk in and expect a table... booking in advance is probably a necessity! Three of us shared the Burratta with Bellota Ham appetizer, which was fabulous. I loved my entree, linguini con fruiti di Mari, perfectly cooked and seasoned over house made noodles. My wife had the risotto with summer squash and Sicilian red prawns, again an amazing, perfectly prepared dish! The third in our party opted for the Halibut with tomato, olives, capers and potatoes... again wonderfully prepared and presented! The extensive wine list is about 7 pages, encompassing over 200 bottles...it focuses on Italian wines predominately, but has something for any wine lover. This is a very good restaurant. It is in a back street. It is dim, crowded, noisy and probably exists to Hoover up the dollars up from tourists. However, they do it with style. The service is very good. The portions are excellent in size, and the quality of the fare is as good as I have had anywhere. It is expensive, but the cost still represents good value for money. I recommend anyone who wants good food should go to this restaurant. There is such a lot of competition and this place offers a great experience. Go there once. We came here at 5.30 en route to the theatre without a reservation but had no difficulty securing a table. Service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant is cozy and intimate, perfect for a romantic dinner a deux, in a secluded part of Temple Bar. We shared an excellent calamari and then we both had the same main, linguine vongole. Unfortunately, there were no clams but the shrimp and mussel substitute was more than adequate. The sauce was creamy without being heavy and the portion size was just perfect. My better half finished off with an excellent tiramisu while I opted instead for an extra glass of the excellent gave de gavi, a bottle of which we had already consumed. Excellent meal. Being Italian myself you can probably imagine how picky I can be about Italian food abroad. Well, I have to say my experience at Il Vicoletto nicely surprised me from the very beginning to the end. I got to taste their signature dish (Pappardelle con ragù di salsiccia), their calamari and their Risotto taleggio e pere - if I REEALLY concentrate I think I can still taste it, absolutely delicious. Very good selection of wines, staff always kind and attentive. Well they've been in business for almost 20 years and they deserve the popularity they got so far. If you are taking a stroll in Temple Bar and you're starving, pop in there and I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. read more

Honestly, I shouldn't tell you about this place because it is already too crowded. When a waiter has the gravitas to literally take the menu from you and say, "Let's forget the menu. Just tell me what you like," or, "Tell you what, tell me what you want to pay for a bottle of wine, and I'll bring you something good," that, friends, is throwing down the gauntlet. That's swag, and you know right then that this guy is either full of horse squeeze or that you are about to have a lovely evening. So are you gonna be one of those anal retentive types that has to have a plan, or are you going to see where this rabbit hole leads? Well, I like cajones and calling a good bluff, and my table was game. So we went with it. And every dish crushed. (If I was younger, there would be clap emojis between all of those words in the last sentence.) This place is dealing nothing but aces. "I'll have the linguine." "Nah, you actually want the risotto." "Uhhh... well... I do?" "Yep, that's actually what you want." "Well, uh... sure... Risotto!" Art, fellow yelpers. You only pull that kind of stunt when you know damned well you have a kitchen that is batting a thousand. Service was great, food was great, and the evening was great. If you are looking for a quality Italian meal in Dublin, look no further than Il Vicoletto. We had dinner here weekend before last and the food was outstanding. Great quality ingredients, lovely ambience and good service. By far the best Italian I've had in Dublin. Our group of four had a variety of starters including the calamari, veal Carpaccio special and the burrata special. My burrata with tomatoes and basil was so lovely and my friends thoroughly enjoyed their choices. For mains we had the ravioli dello chef, pappardelle con funghi porcini and the ragu di salsiccia con pappardelle. I was sceptical about the Ragu with the Chianti sauce...but it was incredible. Those who ordered the mushroom pappardelle loved their dishes and the homemade ravioli with the pork and sage butter was a huge hit as well. To finish out the evening we ordered a couple tiramisus and the chocolate fondant. I was disappointed with the tiramisu (good not great) but the chocolate fondant with ice cream and amaretto? Oh. My. Heavens. Definitely worth fighting your dinner companion for (which was luckily my husband). We had a wonderful experience at Il Vicoletto and enjoyed our wine so much that we ordered the same kind for our second bottle. Be sure and make a booking in advance and come hungry. read more

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful evening here in IL Vicoletto. We were greeted by the staff very nicely. They explained the specials of the night clearly and we were able to choose what we wanted quickly. We ordered a Burrata with meats to start. Delicious and creamy! As main dishes we got the Chefs Ravioli, and the Seafood Pasta. Again, both dishes were exquisite. For dessert, the chocolate fondant AND the panacotta were to die for. What an absolute delight this little Italian restaurant is. As always, when looking for inspiration of somewhere new to go, I went to Yelp and (yet again) it came up with a little gem just off Temple Bar. Having lived in Dublin for many years, I am normally very cautious of any restaurant in TB, but situated just off the busy part and down one of the quieter side alleys, as soon as you walk up to the entrance, you feel like you are in a completely different part of town. Warmly welcomed as we entered, we were escorted to a table in the corner giving my wife a wonderful view of the entire restaurant. Menus arrived, along with a list of around 5 specials...all of which sounded AMAZING!! In the end I went for the "special" beef carpaccio (unsmoked whereas menu is smoked) and my wife the calamari. Honestly, I really enjoyed the beef...but the squid was SUBLIME. Beautiful crisp and seasoned on the outside and that lovely bite to it throughout, this was a fantastic squid. The lamb cutlets for main (4 chops) came in a lovely sauce and beautifully roasted and seasoned potatoes. And again the wife chose the winner of the special ravioli with mozzarella cheese and a special cream and ragu sauce The fondant for dessert (shared!) along with a nice bottle of prosecco came to a VERY reasonable €120 (excel tip) so honestly...book a table and ENJOY!!! read more

Overcome food poisoning The Good: This is a very nice restaurant and the people are extraordinarily nice. We met friends, and several kids were part of our party. Everyone was so nice and genuine in interacting with the kids. The Bad: The restaurant is pretty small and loud but that's ok because it reminds me of restaurants in New York City. The Ugly: I was the only person who ordered the prawn appetizer, and in the only person with a case of food poisoning. I should have know something was wrong with the tasteless, "prawns" I had. Every now & again this happens but we missed Thanksgiving dinner on the next night because I couldn't even think of food. read more
