I've been seeing Dr. Kim for two decades now, since their old location near Western. Both Drs here are great. They take my insurance, and eye exams are always very thorough. I'm a diabetic so they also check on that as it affects my vision, meaning they're well informed as Drs. The selection of glasses is vast and their team up front was super helpful last week with me, and were so easy to talk to. I was quoted a week to two weeks for my new glasses but they have always been ready faster than that. If I'm not mistaken, they offer contacts too. A while ago I had an eye exam here and had a decent experience. I didn't end up buying any eyeglasses because I wanted some from Zenni. After a few months since my appointment I lost my prescription so I went in asking for a copy. They told me I'd have to pay $99 for it when I already had an exam not long ago. I later found out this is ILLEGAL and when I went back and told them that they quickly apologized, gave me my prescription and said it was a "misunderstanding". Do not ever pay a second time for a prescription, it is required by law they give it to you. A separate time before that I went into get my glasses adjusted/tightened. Before it was about $5. This time I had a $20 bill in my hand and after they fixed my glasses the older korean man (the owner?) looked at my money and told me "It'll be $20." It literally took them 2 minutes to adjust them. He obviously scammed me. I said "It was $5 last time.." and he said the prices have changed. How convenient it was the exact amount I was holding in my hand. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. read more

I checked out this place because it was nearby and had decent reviews, but it ended up being a pretty bad experience. The guy doctor (there are 2+ doctors) was incredibly standoffish, wasn't friendly, and didn't talk at all. And when I asked him to dilate my pupils to check on a preexisting condition, he was very obviously annoyed to have to do extra work. Dilation is a typical part of eye exams! And eye exam machine got fogged up, he didn't care that it might have messed up my prescription reading and didn't even bother to clean the lens or redo it. Then after my contacts fitting, I tried the prescribed contacts for a few weeks and they didn't fit very well and were very uncomfortable. I went back a second time, had to pay for another pair, and that didn't fit well either. I thought it was me, until I went to a different doctor who actually put effort and care into getting me the correct contacts prescription and brand. I had told the ILA doctor that I had dry eyes, but they didn't care and just kept trying to push me to buy their office branded contacts instead of giving me a brand that was actually a good fit for my eyes. The new ones from my new doctor work so much better and are actually comfortable; that's when I realized how awful the iLA doctor was. I'm annoyed I wasted my yearly benefits and extra money on top at ILA Optometry just to get 2 pairs of contacts that didn't fit. I've been going here for both my glasses & contacts. They're always so friendly & informative. I usually make an appointment if I can but even without one, it's barely a wait. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!!! I brought my $400 PRADA sunnies in because the original screw came out. I paid $7 for this service, including them having one of the nose resters replaced. I TRUSTED that the optometrist KNEW what he was doing, but APPARENTLY HE DOESN'T!!!! He drilled a hole RIGHT through the glasses, COMPLETELY DAMAGING THEM!!! These were my favorite glasses, which now I have to replace. The bump on the left side is the damage in the pictures. Dr. Kim was very knowledgeable and was able to answer my question in regards to some floaters I've been seeing for the past few months. They also accept most insurance. I used EYEMED and got my contact lens and exam done for 50. a 40 dollar copay for my contact lens exam and a 10 copay for my regular eye exam. Two different exams FYI. amount may vary depending on the type of exam and prescription even if you have the same insurance. Try to locate a good optometrist before you proceed to buy glasses. Sometimes their might be a place that's full of nice glasses but the optometrist is not experience, that's why i still recommend this place because they have a large variety of name brand frames and because the overall experience was great! read more

Absolutely terrible! When I got my glasses, I noticed a few scratches on my lenses but the person kept making excuses and stalling. Finally, they agreed to change the lenses, but I was frustrated at that point, so I asked for a refund. They claimed they had a no refund policy despite the fact that there is no such sign and I was not notified of that policy while paying! I insisted, and they finally gave me a refund, but they lied about how much the eye examination costed as they claimed it was $50 rather than the $40 they claimed it was yesterday. The lack of transparency is fustrating! Make sure to ask for a receipt with a detailed break down so that you don't get scammed like I did! read more

Fantastic Optometry Store Been coming here for years now and have never been disappointed. I used to go to Beverly Hills Vision because it was "Beverly Hills" but was always frustrated by their wait times and how long it takes to get an appointment ahead of time. iLA is very much a casual walk in and walk out kind of place. I've never needed to make an appointment to get my eyes checked here and have always been seen within minutes of walking into the store. I believe there's only one optometrist who works there but she's fast and efficient. iLA also takes my vision insurance, EyeMed, which I readily appreciate since many glasses places in Ktown don't accept insurance. iLA also has a great selection of frames. I was able to get a brand new pair of blue Burberry frames when I was there. The frames were part of Burberry's latest collection so it was nice to see that they get the latest brands/frames. For a fast and incredibly friendly experience, whether you're getting an eye exam or just buying a new pair of frames, you can't go wrong with iLA. read more

I hate places like this that just try to take your money. I came in to have my sunglasses adjusted. The first thing the man who helped me said was "we're not responsible for any damage during the adjustment." Uhhh I mean okay I guess? I've had glasses adjusted at so many places and this is the first time I've heard this. He couldn't even say like "I'll try to be gentle with your glasses, but ....." Yeah he didn't say anything like that and he acted like he was already going to damage my sunglasses! Anyways, it sketched me out and I thought it was pretty rude and weird. So he goes and adjusts them. He comes back, I try it on, it looks okay and I say thanks and was about to leave. Then he goes and says "okay $5." And I'm like, uh what? $5?? And he's like "yes $5. This isn't free. I just spent 10 minutes doing this, it's not free!" And I was like "you didn't even tell me in the beginning that it was going to cost $5"....and he's like "it costs $5." SO, I just gave him the $5 anyways and left. I know it's just $5. But I have not been to ANY optometry that will charge you money to adjust your glasses for you! Besides, he should have at least told me in the beginning that he was going to charge me! PS. My friend also came here to get a prescription and lenses and they messed up on her lenses! First and foremost I am sure the doctor is great but sadly this is another example of front desk staff ruining the reputation of an establishment. I called to move an appointment I had for two people to the next available and confirmed it would be for two people. When I came to my set appointment the front desk person had a horrendous attitude. We stood there for about 6 minutes before she even asked why we were there. When I told her we had appointments me she instantly said no only one person. I corrected her and she still said no. We had to choose who was going to be seen... I wrote down my information and informed her I had two insurances-one for myself and one under my partners. She ran my insurance and when I was not eligible for an ex man I asked her to run my partners. She went ahead and said she couldn't find it. I asked her if she can search it with his social which I wrote down for her. She proceeded to say she could not and the insurance wasn't found... hard to believe she couldn't do that. In either case I showed her proof of insurance and she would not have it. I went ahead and left called another optometrist and she had no problem finding my insurance. A day wasted and have to wait a week to see a provider. I get that not everyone is a people person but if you do not like your job and do not want to be there then just say that. read more

The front manager refused to lower the price. When I asked for a simple $5 discount as a last resort, he asked me to leave the premises. I was long overdue for glasses, as I was confused as to whether I was experiencing visual hallucinations or just had a serious amount of imperfections on my glasses. After Yelping around for a good optometry spot that accepted my insurance, I had to hit this place up after reading the reviews. And they were all very accurate! I was taken on a walk-in basis, as I wanted to get some glasses ASAP. The store is located on the corner of Wilshire and Vermont, which has free parking with validation. The two girls that work there were both very courteous and attentive, including assisting my picky ass in selecting some frames. And Dr. Han has been the coolest optometrist I've met in my 18 years of wearing glasses, assuring he was going to give me the best prescription to accommodate my blindness (which he informed me had actually got better). My only "complaint" is that I had to wait over the weekend to get my glasses, but then again, is completely inconsiderate of me to complain about, considering it's a small independent store. In reality, I went in on a friday afternoon and picked my glasses up today (Monday). Overall, my best optometrist visit yet. Dr. Han has officially became my new optometrist. read more

A couple of weeks ago my glasses were not sitting on my face correctly. One side of the frame had twisted and were making my glasses sit sideways on my face. It was very irritating. I had a classy event to go to and so I decided to stop and see how much it would be to fix them on that particular day. I went in to the store right when they opened, and explained the problem to the girl behind the counter and asked if she could give me an estimate. She said to hold on one moment and took them to the back and gave them to a man. I assumed it was either the optometrist or the owner or both. I waited a couple of moments and the man came out and said, "Here you go. Have a nice weekend." I asked him what the charge would be for his time and the work and he said, "There's no charge, have a great weekend." At which point I expressed my gratitude and left happy knowing I didn't get charged for a couple of minutes worth of work. If business owners like this were the rule instead of the exception, capitalism might work a lot better. He didn't decide to take them in as an order and then charge me tons of money. He saw it was a quick fix, and helped me out. Now, next time I get glasses, I'm going there. No question. That's the kind of business I want to support! read more

I went here on a whim because my work sent everyone home early because of power outages and I wanted to make use of my vision plan. I walked out pleased because there was very little hassle and the prices were great. Quick Summary: - CONVENIENT hours: 10am to 7pm every week day. 10-6pm on Saturdays. - Free validated parking in the same plaza as the Vermont and Wilshire station. - The plaza has Chase, UPS, lots of food places, coffee, shopping, etc. Good place I imagine to do some errands. - No appointment necessary. I walked in, and got in and out within 60 minutes. - Courteous and quick service. - Not a lot of upselling like lenscrafters. The only specialized lens they have is anti-glare, but they mention it, but don't try to push it. They are friendly and professional. They also have a pretty good selection of frames. Although they aren't a large space, they have a decent selection because the whole store is just lined with glasses. read more

These guys are SO on top of it and Cheap and FAST!! Go to this guy, you get lenses, frames, scratch and glare coating AND an EXAM for $100.00 OUT THE DOOR! They just opened so I THINK (could be their regular prices) they are running a special, I got the most thorough eye exam of my LIFE, super FAST- 1 day turn around for my new glasses and they're really nice! Another thing I almost forgot to mention about the eye exam, (like the previous reviewer also stated) during my eye exam the doctor figured out a mistake in my old prescription. I have got to tell you I have never been happier with a pair of glasses in my life. The only other time I felt this way about a pair of glasses is when I got my first pair, put them on and realized I hadn't been seeing the world properly. This I can only attribute to the eye doctor's knowledge, talent and ability. I swear I am not related to any of these people who work or own this place. I went to ILA to pick out some new glasses because they accepted my vision insurance. They have a good selection of frames, and especially a lot of mens' frames. The salespeople were helpful and not at all pushy, and you can browse as long as you want. I picked a cool pair of Danish frames & had the lenses made, and they turned out perfectly. Then I googled the price of the frames, and found out that I got them for half of the normal price! So I was even happier with my purchase. Don't be afraid of parking here--the lot beneath is good, and they validate for up to 3 hours I think. And there's even a farmer's market on Fridays in the plaza. read more

I had been needing a pair of contacts for an upcoming honeymoon. I've had glasses for a long time and am happy with them but when you're on a cruise or hanging on the beach, they're just not as conducive to enjoying yourself as contact lenses are. It's easier to swim and wear sunglasses, plus they don't get all fogged up from sweat. So on my way home from work the other day I was driving by the new condo building at the Wilshire/ Vermont metro stop that has a bunch of new ground floor retail in it. And right there on the Wilshire side was this optometry place with sign in the window advertising "$100 - Lens - Frames - Exam." So I figured how could I loose, right? After parking and going into the place I was very surprised by just how nice the interior was. More importantly the staff was friendly and gave me the information I needed right away. It was going to be $80 for the contact lens exam plus the cost of 6 months supply (you get a free 1 month set.) I thought my insurance was already drained for this year but they thought it would be a good idea to run it anyway and after they did they found all I would have to pay was a $10 co-pay. Not bad! After a couple minutes of waiting, Dr. Young S. Kim came out and took me to the back for the exam. Pretty typical exam and she was very nice, answering my questions and figuring out a mistake with my prior prescription. She gave me the pair of contacts and explained how they worked (I hadn't worn them in a long time and now I had a special one for astigmatism.) I got a little kit to take home with a case and cleaner and they cleaned my glasses! Plus two hour parking validation, which I then used to get a drink at coffee bean and enjoy it outside. Just a very positive experience in all. I think I was in and out in under 30 minutes or right around there at least. The people were nice and it seems even without insurance, they are very affordable. From looking around too I could tell they had a nice selection of frames from designer to standard type. OK, so I purchased frames here a few months back, but wanted to wait because these dang frames did NOT fit on my face well. Thanks to my Asian bridge - or lack of - should I say, sometimes it's a challenge finding the right pair of frames. (Can I get an "Amen" from my fellow Asian brothers and sisters?) That said, I purchased these pricey Calvin Kleins thinking that it'll help since they're expensive and good quality, right? Wrong. Constant sliding off my nose so they look like reading glasses, so I went back to Samuel at iLA not once, not twice, but a grand total of four times (without an appointment). He was always quick to help me and when I concluded my visit today, I just told him, "maybe I need a new pair of frames." Without really responding, he examined the way the glasses sat on my ears and took the frames to the back to do some frame surgery! He cut the backs off (the part that rests on your ears) so that it wasn't so long and didn't sit on the way back of my ears and constantly make them sore, which somehow in turn alleviated the nose sliding problem. Tah-dah! All for free. Also, I took my old frames and told him to update the prescription on the lenses ($40) and to slap on some nose pieces ($25). He tried to sell me on those anti-glare lenses for $20 more, but I politely declined. iLA is a great place to go, they have a good selection of frames, I wished they had more sunglasses, but maybe it's a good for my wallet that they don't. They are not pushy, know what they're doing, and prices are certainly reasonable for all budgets. They have a section of frames, lenses, and exam for $100. They accept insurance too. Parking is in the same lot as the apartment building (since it's on the bottom floor of a big condo/apt. building) and you get 30 mins for free. After that, ask for a validation. Remember, if the frames don't fit right, take it back because they CAN be fixed! If not, you can always get another pair for cheap! read more

Wow. My eyeballs are not in good shape. Luckily they were still able to read the previous reviews for this place! Since my last eye appointment was over two years ago--not good, folks--I had no idea what I was looking for. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I stumbled onto i LA Optometry. First of all, they are extremely friendly here. Also, I had a lot of questions. You know how sometimes people will make you feel like a pain in the you-know for asking questions? Or it's clear that you're wasting their time so they give you the shortest possible answers? Not here, kids. I didn't feel any negativity, and I think I asked a few questions twice! Second, parking is so easy. It's under the building (an easy entrance on Vermont) and they validate you. Zero charge. I thought I'd need to ask for validation, but they were on top of it! In fact, they checked with me! Third, there's an awesome deal if you're in the market for glasses. $100 for the exam, frame, and lenses. If you wear contacts, which I do, it gets a bit more expensive. It'll add another $80 for the contact exam. And then if you buy contacts, of course that's additional. Still a bargain, I think, considering I don't have vision insurance. And they worked with me to pay in chunks rather than all at once! Did I mention they're super friendly? For those of you who like to multi-task, there's tons of stuff nearby. Coffee Bean next door, TMobile down the street, and I think even a UPS location. Good times. Oh, also I had to call to get the hours but in the evenings they stay open until 7pm, in case you're like me and have a dumb adult-y job during the day. :) read more

Dr. KIM is the BEST! i called i LA at 12:30 and they told me to come in at 2:00!!! not only that but Dr. Kim let me chat her ear off while she checked my vision and eyeballs. they gave me a trial pair and put in an order for 4 boxes of contacts...AND the best part is: i only had to pay $80 and it took less than 30 minutes, but she was totally on top of it. they will let me pay for the contacts when they come in. I must say, it feels good to have an optometrist walking distance from my apartment, when you really need to check your eyes. So, thank you yelpers for recommending this place. You are right, no wait, easy appointment the same day and extremely nice doctor. Although I went there for contact lenses, they still have that awesome promotion for exam and glasses going on, so get on it. Of course, if you want fancy lenses you will pay more. My exam started really fast, no waiting at all and Dr. Jae Han was extremely nice and informative, no judging at all! I hate those doctors that always have an opinion about something and make you feel like shit and a stupid, you know what I mean? Dr. Han proceeded to examining my eyes using various methods and instruments to fit the best contact lenses always having in his mind my comfort and options. He always informed me about prices of different contact lenses, as well as exams options. Overall, I do not have an insurance to cover optic, but I feel I got the best throughout eye exam yet. I paid $250 for the exam and 6 months of supply of soft ACUVUE Oasys (you can get up to $30 rebate from acuvue website) and got free eye drops and a small contact solution. The exam itself it's about 80$ a box of contacts is 35$. I know that I will be coming back for my exam next year for sure, as you can order any contact lenses online, so you can save a buck or two. read more

I read all the reviews and figured since it was close to my apt, I'd give it a whirl. parking was easy; validation for an underground lot, the first plus. I walked in to find a nicely decorated boutique with a vast selection of frames as well as sunglasses. since I was only interested in contacts, however, I took a seat. I was greeted right away, filled out some paper work, and was with Dr. Han in less than 10 mins (which was good considering I was late!). the eye exam was relaxed and easy going. Dr. Han was as nice as he was informative. at the end, he made recommendations for me, did not attempt to upsell or push any products, and I was out the door in about 20 mins. awesome! read more

This is by far the best optometry store I've been to in LA. The optometrist was efficient and patiently handled answered all of my questions. The front staff is friendly and even glued my glasses at no charge for me to use until my new lenses came in. Plus, there's validated garage parking! UPDATE: Revising my review as I went in this week to get lenses in my glasses. I was asked if I need glare free lenses like the ones already installed. When I asked if they already had prescription lenses in them, I was told yes (I have two pair, one didn't have prescription lenses). Fast forward to today when I try the glasses on and they are not prescription. When I called to see if I could just order the lenses, seeing as I had already been in and been given misinformation, the lady who remembered me denied everything and said I had to come back in. I've been coming here for years, since they opened I think, and *knock on wood* not once have I had a problem here. They're located on the ground floor of the Wilshire/ Vermont building and station, next to CBTL. The staff has changed, but the office manager and primary Dr remain the same. I've had 4 eyeglass RX filled, a pair I took in from an online purchase and the rest from their selection. It's not a shabby collection, I've made it work. And I always get them on time and without a problem. My contact fitting is another story, the dr tried but my astigmatism is a pain for both of us. Considering I got the shaft when it comes to vision, I won't hold it against them. They'll validate your parking for visits, check-ups, fittings and/ or if you just need your glasses tightened. I'm withholding a star only because I've had faster prescriptions filled, but their service is courteous, professional and always with a smile. read more

This place is so awesome. My husband and kids have been coming here for about 3 years now and the service is amazing. I originally thought the place was going to be a bit snooty due to the location, but everyone is so friendly and they have diverse clientele. Came in today to get my husbands glasses fixed (Dog chewed the arm) and I was out in 15 minutes. I thought I was going to have to come back...and they didn't even charge me....wish I knew the guys name...but they are awesome.
