I am upgrading my review from one star to two stars. It is not because of the experience I had buying a share of their fish, but because the owner of the company reached out to me. He offered to refund part of my share cost, and he explained how they run their boat. I sincerely appreciate that he took the time to reach out and see if there was anything he could do to make my experience better. Unfortunately, that boat had left the dock, so to speak. The chance to provide a good experience was when I picked up my order, not after I wrote what I felt was an honest review of a significant part of my experience. The owner says they use certified scales, and I am sure they do. My scale weighs to the gram or 0.1 ounce and even though the total weight of my fish was two ounces over what I paid for, I measured the plastic that a fillet was sealed in, and it was 21 grams (three quarter ounce). That suggests the actual weight of fish was a half to three quarters of a pound short. I would really like to LOVE this community supported fishery. I just can't right now, and it's not likely I will buy a share again in the future. For sure not this year. If I do, I won't pay 100% up front five or six months before delivery. That was my mistake. I encourage you to give them a try if you like. The fish is good; it's just not good enough to demand a premium price paid five months in advance and to come up under weight. Reid - I wish you the best, and I hope if we do business again that I have a better experience. Only you can change that. Thanks again for reaching out, but I don't want a partial refund. We have now received two summer shares and a winter share and we are endlessly happy with the quality of this fish. We just signed on for a third summer share. The fish is fresh and beautifully processed in nicely sized fillets. For us, the larger full size fillets are the most practical. Those result in 4 good-sized portions of perfect fish. With the half-size fillets, we typically prepare 2. I was worried that frozen fish wouldn't seem as fresh as never-frozen, but that just isnt the case. The fillets taste super fresh and do not set off my dislike for "fishy" smelling fish. We love directly supporting the folks doing the hard work of fishing and having a freezer full of exceptional salmon to use at a moment's notice. read more

I have long lost any trust in buying fish from a market, anywhere, however,​ I am pleased to have access to the salmon Christopher and Emily's family have been fishing for long before Alaska was even called Alaska. As Christopher tells us only the "premium" fillets are pulled off the line for the shares, and you can tell. Each fillet is flawless. We usually buy a few shares at a time, so it's always available for a family dinner or if we want to prepare Gravlaks, which we do quite often. This is such an amazing service to have in NYC. I am in full support of the "purchase a share" model that is quickly becoming a growing trend in the US (or at least here in the PNW). I bought a share of salmon from Iliamna and picked it up just a few weeks ago. The fish is amazing. High-quality, fresh and delicious. Plus, I love that I can get to know the company personally as Eike and Reid live here in Portland. They use the set net method for harvesting salmon and you can read all about it on their website. The time between catching the salmon and having it already on ice is extremely quick, in contrast to other styles of salmon harvesting. To offer the exceptional quality that they do at such reasonable prices is phenomenal. read more

Their salmon is fantastic. I've been ordering for three seasons now and loved that I can support a family. This is my sisters second season as I recommended it to her. She told me yesterday that she had a distraught experience picking up her share this season. After waiting a minute and a half while folks were loading a share into the back of an elderly couple's car, she asked politely if she could sneak by to find a parking spot to get her fish. A lady said yes and waved her on by. When she walked in the doors to get her share, this lady was bad mouthing her to other co workers for not being patient and waiting. It was awkward, the lady immediately knew my sister was the person she was bad mouthing. The thing was, my sister did wait a while and she didn't ask unkindly for the elderly folks standing in the road micromanaging the lady loading the fish. I understand about patience and being kind during COVID and this missed the mark. It seems she projected her frustration onto my sister when she should have been frustrated that while loading fish into the other car that older couple was micromanaging her and blocking the roadway. My sister filled out a survey and got a call back for mentioning that she felt uncomfortable that lady was bad mouthing a customer. While management tried to apologize to her (after letting her know by email that the lady was talking about an impatient customer, not her. But it was her! another kick in her gut), she still feels like she shouldn't have asked them to scoot over so she could pull through and still feels like she's the worst scum of the universe. Family is family and my heart hurts that she was talked about so poorly, twice. I hope that in the future the family managing Iliamna understands the loyalty of family and word of mouth supports their business. My father, my two sisters and I all buy shares every year, and honestly I am considering sourcing elsewhere. Not because she asked me to (she told me not to let her experience sour mine), but because a big sister always watches over her siblings. read more

Since I started purchasing this salmon share, my children started asking when they can have fish for dinner, instead of complaining about having fish for dinner!! for us the 1/2 fish is good for 2 meals, the quality is superlative, and we end up eating it mostly raw, with lemon and salt! occasionally we cook it, and it is so flavorful and lean that it does not need any seasoning. the only bad thing is that after you taste this quality salmon, there is no going back to the store-bought variety, so be sure to buy enough! thank you Iliamna Fish Co!!!! read more

We love everything about this...the fish stays so fresh, even after months in the fridge. It's sushi grade, so we have eaten it raw or rare many times and it has tasted great. I also googled Bristol Bay salmon and found out the mercury levels there are extremely low. Customer service is great, and you're supporting a family-run business in a sustainable bay. I've been a happy salmon CSA member for several years. Iliamna provides frozen, vacuum sealed wild red salmon of consistently excellent quality. The salmon is cut into sides which are scaled and boned. I rarely find even one bone in a side of salmon. If you are considering a salmon CSA with them, do it! read more

This is a great opportunity to support a small family business and get great salmon. They fish is wonderful (and I am not a fish eater particularly and eat no other meat and salmon is one of the few fish I eat) and great to have all year long. The price is good and the people are so nice. One year there was some mix up with my email so I didn't get the share in Eugene, so I got a Portland one and a friend just picked it up at their house. They were incredibly accommodating and I always enjoying picking up my fish and chatting with them. And one year I even got a coupon for a free ice cream in the ice cream place that was next door to where you picked up your share. Definitely worth it. read more

Our friend is no longer affiliated with the same csa (I convinced her to join Groundworks) so I gathered up some friends and put an order in for 5 shares this year...
