When pregnancy cravings KILL!!! As first-time customers, we weren't sure how it all worked at first. While standing in line, we browsed the digital menu behind the counter. We knew what we'd come for (lobstah!), and assumed we'd order once we made it up to the counter. However, as we waited our turn, one of the employees started shouting at us from behind a cooler. Between the distance, white noise and a slight language barrier, we weren't sure why we were being yelled at. Eventually the woman at the register clarified what we needed: one Maine lobster. How many lbs? We said two. The woman who had shouted at us confirmed our order from her co-worker, and returned with two, 2-lb Maine lobsters: a slight miscommunication. She reached into the bag, grabbed the luckier of the two, and put him back in the tank. The less fortunate one returned home with us, to satisfy my wife's pregnancy cravings! We had a great experience at Om. Wanted to get some fresh Dungeness - Father-In-Law did a survey of several locations, Om ended up being the more reasonable with the best inventory. We came in with a cooler, they "tared" the cooler before they gave us the crabs. Ended up with eight good-sized crab, cost was $134. Did a family crab fest that night, couldn't finish everything we bought. The six of us got through all of the legs but there were still five bodies untouched (which we de-meated and shared out later). Just a thought for anyone - there's a lot of work involved but the reward is great! read more

I've been to other places where there are sometimes distinct smells, you know, kind of fishy. Of course you can smell the sea in this shop, but not the funky fishyness we try to avoid. Last time there, I purchased the clams, mussels, and lobster. All was fantastic!! I am not sure if other people can taste the difference between live seafood cooked fresh versus not live. It's big and spacious and impressively clean, with a wide variety of live seafood for sale at reasonable prices. I didn't notice any of the problems with algae on the floor that some Yelpers in the past have mentioned, so it's likely that if there was a problem they've taken care of it. The tanks are huge and appeared quite clean and not at all overcrowded. I appreciated the roominess and space given the tanks as well as their placement. The staff didn't hover over us and gave us ample time to look around. When we did need help the staff was very friendly and cooperative with our questions and requests. Big parking lot. I come here for all my seafood needs. The owners of the shop are friendly and they feel like my second family. They offer fresh seafood ranging from clams, crabs, oysters, geoduck, fish, etc. They price them at a reasonable price and sometimes they even throw in special prices for ya ;) When we feeling fancy, we get two crabs and a couple of clams or mussels and cook em at home. Give them a couple washes and cook in a simple garlic and beer base, BOOM, you have yourself a feast. As a girl that's lived surrounded by seafood markets, I wish that OM would offer more. Took a day trip from Seattle to Portland this past Sunday 4/24/22. Before headed back, there was no way we were leaving Oregon without any seafood! I Yelped a few places and OM seafood seemed to catch my attention. When we arrived , their parking lot seemed to be empty. I panicked a little since their signage said Closed but supposedly we're still open. I walked in and inquired...they were open! There were about 3 Chinese women working, and only one seems to be able to communicate in English. They were pretty nice and accommodating so! After a couple minutes in there being all wide eyed with the variety of live seafood a crowd of people arrived. I guess this place was pretty popular with the locals! Their live tanks were filled with Dungeness crab, Spot Prawns, Manila Clams, Butter Clams, Razor Clams, Rock Crab, Periwinkles, Cockles, and Crawfish. I was also able to purchase a cooler box, even though I had a cooler to use to bring back to Hawaii. The price was very affordable for the quality of Seafood they had. I would have surely spent double or even triple the price I paid if I purchased them back in Hawaii! I purchase 6 live Dungeness crabs, 5lbs of Manila clams & 5lbs of butter clams. All alive after a 5hr flight the next day. Not grittiness or sand in the clams. Crab was very meaty and fresh tasting. Will definitely return here the next time we're in Portland! read more

Great place for seafood.. the owners aren't too invasive on what you are doing in their store--two separate people did offer to "help" and I politely declined while I dug through their tanks of razor clams to make sure I got live ones (they'd probably been in the tanks for 3-4 days so its understandable, some will die.. and even though they're fresh dead, my mother always told me to get live ones for seafood-eating). I ended up with almost 12 pounds of razor clams, 2 pounds of some giant clams, and about 7 pounds of manila clams. The manila clams were amazing! No sand at all.. whatever the giant clams were.. were salty! Maybe if I had some white wine to cook them in.. but even just steaming them until they popped they were inedible to me (too much salt water I guess). My friend loved the place, she never even knew it existed! She will be definitely be back for more manila clams ($3.59 a pound or $3.39 a pound if you buy 10+ pounds). Great place for fresh live seafood--they also have fresh dungeoness and Maine lobsters. Their razor clams were $4.79 a pound which was cheaper than ABC that wanted $5.39 a pound. Their seafood restaurant is next door too, but never been. Someday, hopefully! read more

"Crouching Oyster, Hidden Appetite". Since I live very close by, I thought I should try them out. I picked up a dozen oysters and took them home to bar-b-que. Of the dozen, only 5 were edible. That means the remaining 7 were dead before I got them. They didn't pop open. So, the next day, I returned the dead to the proprietor. She seemed a little put off at first, and offered me money or 7 other oysters. That seemed reasonable to me, so I took another 7 oysters to take home. One more try. So, I fire up the bar-b-que, and again, 7 dead oysters. I will never return again. Can you imagine what they might serve in the restaurant next door?? We been to this place as well as ABC (a little further down) and bought some live crayfish here since they looked pretty good size wise. First impression walking is, is that theres a good amount of fresh seafood as well as frozen. Prices while comparing the two places were about the same, certain things were a dollar more but it wasnt too bad. There was a ton of alge on the floor though. I get that its wet but if you scrubbed it off it would've taken a few minutes. The amount there looked like they haven't cleaned in a while. Dont people clean the floors daily? In restaurant and retail, I've worked with we always mopped and seeped up after the day is over. This is where I get to the 1 star in my review: Parasites. Long stringy white worms in the crayfish. I know they aren't able to see it while the crayfish are alive and kicking but this is the first time in my life I've gotten worms in crayfish. Mind you, when I was little we caught fish and crayfish all the time to eat by a near by fresh water stream/pond and never did this happen. Wish I saw the other review earlier about the parasite this guy found before his wife ate the fish. That would've saved me the trip down. This and the floor made me wonder if they even clean the tanks regularly. read more

I've only been to OM three times so far...within three weeks! As you can tell, I really like this place. Each time I've visited, they've had plenty of Manila and cherrystone clams available. I've had about 8 lbs worth of their Manila clams so far and all of them have been scrumptious and very fresh. The real reason to visit OM- the CRABS! They have ~5 tanks of very healthy looking crabs to choose from. Large to small, pick your choice. I got a medium sized crab for $15 and it was really really great. Although I haven't tried them, they've had a crate of blue crabs available as well. Definitely give this place a try. If you plan on visiting on the weekend, they seem to be more stocked on Saturday vs. Sunday. read more

I love this store. Prices have gone up a bit since I remember buying crab here last season, but at $4.59/lb for live crab, that's a steal. Pick out the ones you want, take them home and drop them right into the steamer still wiggling. Oooh so sweet and fresh. Their clams are a really good deal, too. Live Manila clams are about $3.50/lb, but if you buy 10 lbs or more, it drops the price down to $3.10/lb. And believe me, 10 lbs may sound like a lot, but remember, 80% of that weight is the shell. Oh, and while there over the weekend, live lobster was only $8.99/lb compared to $15/lb at Fred Meyer. How's that for comparison. read more

Always fresh seafood. I like getting crawlfish from here. Crab is good too but get regular one not the like one claw because it's $2 cheaper a pound but no meat! Little scared of blue crab because got it once and good but the head stuff is very bitter. Googled it and found out the crabs had a parasite (safe to eat) but taste bad. read more

I discovered Om Seafood Market a few years ago when I had lobster on Thanksgiving. It wouldn't have been possible if the market hadn't been open that morning, but they were! Now I drive all the way from Cedar Mill to get lobsters there. They always have live Maine lobsters when I want them, and the prices are fair. I love how they are willing to find me the smaller, 1 & 1/2 pound lobsters when I ask. I spent way too much time in Maine to appreciate a lobster when it has reached the weight of two pounds or more. I do not understand why this place has so many 4-5 star reviews. I was so grossed out by this place when I walked in that I left without buying anything. The first thing you notice when you walk into OM Seafood is an overwhelming fishy smell. There were also flies swarming. In my opinion, that's the first sign that the seafood is not as fresh as it can be. Their seafood tanks seem as if they haven't been cleaned in quite some time. The water is so murky that you can't tell what is in the tank until it swims right up the the glass. Nothing about this place seems "fresh" to me. Their prices are higher than other places I have bought live seafood in town, in some cases almost twice as much. Save your appetite, time and money and go elsewhere to satisfy your seafood craving. OM seafood is not the place to go if you want truly fresh seafood. read more
