If a patient has an important question, but it is for something besides billing or scheduling or medical, then it is impossible to get in touch with anyone. (1) All phone calls go to voice mail. (2) No one returns voice mails. (3) There is a supposed contact form on their website. But no one ever replies to you from those form submissions. This is a terrible way to try to run a business. They seem like a pretend ghost company, like maybe they really don't exist. Also, I do not usually believe in leaving internet reviews. I prefer instead to tell people directly what they are doing wrong. But I can't do that if they won't talk to me. So this is their fault. I regret trying to make an appointment here. A friend referred me here, the Doctors are great, the front staff is horrendous!!! when I called to make the appointment, I was told I had to put a credit card on file. when I asked why I was told ITS POLICY! when I asked again why? again I was told ITS POLICY. Clearly, I was not getting any information from the lady, so I just made the appointment. when I got there, I found out you have 10 days to pay your bill after insurance pays what they are going to pay. Don't waste your time with this company's 'Immediate Care.' The facility is not an immediate care like NMH or Rush or UofC. It is an office loaded with regular patients. They try to fit you in amongst the appointments of established patients. We waited 94 minutes before being called. On the way to the exam room we passed a large number of patients waiting for x-ray. We waited in the exam room for a simple set of x-rays for 86 minutes. We returned to the exam room and waited 42 minutes for the doctor. The doctor was nice. Too bad it took four hours to get to see him. read more

My hip replacement surgery by Dr. Ackerman at IBJI was a resounding success. My first appointment I received the results of my x-ray 15 minutes after it was done. Not by an assistant, but by the actual surgeon, Dr. Ackerman. He explained my issue, options for treatment, and possible surgical intervention including what I needed to do to be physically ready and achieve the best results AND explained option for anesthesia due my history. He listened. Their physical therapy team readied me physically. I am glad I followed every recommendation. The anterior hip surgery was so successful, I walked that evening. Recovery was perfect. After having another very negative experience on the phone with billing I decided to write a review. I am a healthcare provider. I would be appalled if I knew my patients had to deal with a billing company whose initial response is defensiveness, rudeness rather than helpfulness and being informative. The billing company is paid 5-10% of collected fees to not just submit a claim and collect a fee, but when there is a problem with insurance, they are there to navigate the insurance system and get difficult claims paid- Not find ways to get the patient to pay instead! They are there to work with appeals. They should provide insurance eligibility verification. They should know valid medical codes insurance will accept. I would never recommend Illinois Bone and Joint. They really need to reassess their staffing decisions. Just look at the reviews. A few bad reviews about billing could be a couple mistakes we make as a provider, or mad and difficult patients. We all can experience situations such as those. When it is the pattern in reviews, you may want to take a good hard look. I certainly would. (And as a provider it pains me to write any review. My provider was great but the rest was so painful I'd never go back.) read more

Beware of billing fraud and overcharging. I came to IBJI for a knee injury last year. They provided me with an off-the-shelf knee brace that can be bought for $100 online. They upcoded the knee brace to insurance (this is where the billing fraud comes in) stating it was a custom fitted knee brace, which gets them paid several hundred dollars more. I was charged $800 for a knee brace I can buy online for $100!! Since I work in healthcare and work very closely in the claims process, I was able to spot the blatant fraud. I am sure if they upcode really easy items to catch such as this, they are upcoding in other areas, ultimately costing you, their patients, hundreds if not thousands of dollars more. If you want honest, moral, quality care, look elsewhere! read more

My son had a 3:30 appointment and at 5:00 we ended up walking out since we still had not seen the dr. At one point we asked the receptionist how much longer and she told me that he had been running 45 minutes behind all DAY. Out of respect for your patients, it might be a good idea to give them a curtsey call/ heads up when a doctor is running behind. I had a family emergency- my husband was admitted into the hospital that morning. We didn't want to miss this important appointment since my son is home from school, but we also couldn't wait a minute longer to see the dr. You never know what your patients are going through and to have them sit around without any communication shows the lack of respect you have for their time. This is ALWAYS an issue with IBJ and the number 1 reason why I avoid going to any of the offices. read more

There were 3 charges for every session but they refused to say what each one was for. If you like being treated like a cog in a machine and a number and a cash cow waiting to be milked, then this is the place for you! From the moment I first contacted them and their scheduler called me back the entire program was all about getting information about my insurance, how to market to me, if I actually would be able to pay them and everything else. I could not even get an answer to the simple question of was the surgeon I was interested in and who was recommended to me available and even taking appointments before I coughed up all of the information they needed for cash generation. The person I was talking to was brusk, bordering on rude, totally unresponsive to questions and driven by the prime directive of getting any information required to ensure payment and marketing. Why do you need to know my insurance company policy number before you even tell me if I can see the doctor I want? Just ridiculous and a total turn off. This is a palace of surgery that supports the Palace by doing surgery and I would have zero faith that they would ever recommend anything other than the most expensive surgical option possible. I had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Ackerman who did my anterior hip replacement in January '23. I was given my options and when surgery was the best, the doctor and his team moved forward with all of the processes and procedures needed beforehand. His assistant, Joy was a welcome sunny spot in my appointments and has always made me feel better afterwards. The front office workers are friendly and helpful. My surgery was a huge success, and I am continuing to do PT while finally living without pain in a very long time. I had a successful right knee replacement surgery with IBJI's Dr. Michael O'Rourke in 2015. It went well -- my knee is functioning fine 7 years later. But I had been having trouble walking for a number of years when I took a spill on my bicycle last year. I had an MRI at IBJI -- I was informed that I had spinal stenosis, a narrowing of my spinal column that put pressure on the nerves in lower back, my hips and down my hamstrings. So I made the decision to have spinal fusion surgery with IBJI's Dr. Gary Shapiro, who came highly recommended by a colleague of his. The operation went off without a hitch the day after Thanksgiving. Although the first 2 weeks afterward were difficult, at 5 weeks out now I am already back at the Y pool swimming and water walking. One thing that stands out: Dr. Shapiro or his assistant Christina responded promptly to any of my MANY questions and concerns -- that was very reassuring. I'm looking forward when it warms up to walk pain free and jump on my bicycle again. So here's a big Thank You to Dr. Shapiro, his staff and NorthShore Skokie for providing excellent care. read more

I have been going to ibj for a long time, the last time I went there was in July to get 3 gel shot in each knee. I did prepaid on all my shot, ibj told me it was 253 per shot and I prepaid it every time I went. One month after my shots I got charged additional 319 by there billing department. And they said reason for the charge is that the shots are 314 a piece instead of what I was quote. Anyone going there should get everything in writing before you get any work done. They change their pricing on month after the completion of service. read more

I hate to say this but this location left me with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. While their referral for PT was just what I needed and have been pain free ever since, the actual appointments I had at the IBJI itself were very poor. From setting up appointments with specialists who had nothing to do with where I explained the pain was occurring, such that I would have to regulatory rebook new appoints with entirely new specialists. To specialists not knowing which part of my body was injured after multiple appointments. To never following up with me when they clearly started in person and in writing that they would. And then finally for sending an invoice for services that were rendered almost a full year ago. I understand that the healthcare industry is challenging these days, and I feel for the providers knowing that they are overworked. But this was a new low for me. I went here when I was having pain, the Dr. I saw was very nice and informative. I was a recent cancer patient who had radiation . He sent me for a bone scan and told me I had osteoporosis . Again I liked and trusted him, he referred me to a specialist in same practice who treats osteoporosis . I waited 3 months for appt and when I went it was with PA I never saw the Dr. it was decided I would take a daily injection of a drug called Tymlos . I had blood work etc and meds were ordered. The following week I saw my oncologist radiologist and told her about the med. Thank goodness I had not started it. It should never be given to someone who had radiation .,it's considered a double hit and can cause bone cancer. Do your homework before taking meds! read more

Was there myself and another family member was also treated here. It's pretty much assembly-line type care. It seems that they take x-rays of everyone, before a doctor even hears your description of the issue. The doctors in our cases were fairly hurried and did not provide clear diagnoses or recommendations. Both patients were basically told 'if it doesn't get better in a couple of months, come back and see us'. We would later get bills for additional co-pay amount on top of what was paid on site. My family member went elsewhere to a podiatrist who provided a comprehensive outline of possible causes, suggested an MRI to confirm suspicion of a plantar's fascia band tear, which is exactly what it was (not even mentioned by IBJI doctor). If you just need to walk in somewhere for a quick x-ray to avoid an expensive ER visit, this might be a ok choice (or some other urgent care place). But I'd look elsewhere if you're looking for attentive, high-quality care. read more

On the phone call, he asked me if I was a doctor, if I was trained in reading an MRI, did I know what I was talking about. I have never been spoken to more rudely than I was on this phone call. I am the patient and deserve to understand what is happening with my care. I submitted an online complaint to IBJI, but have not received any follow up from them. No one came over and gave me a reason why. So after 50 minutes, I went to the front desk and said: Can you cancel my appointment? I've been waiting 50 minutes. And tell Dr. Ackerman to f*ck off and that I have choices when it comes to my healthcare. And please refund my co-pay which I made online. Made appt with an IBJ facility 3 week wait When I arrived to check in with my ID and Ins card i was sent away because I did not have a credit card. Since pain in my knee was bad went back home got card came back and waited an hour. I received a statement and paid for my July appt as stated on the check. Before any other statement I got a charge on card for the July visit Called and they said the check went for the Aug visit and Card for July visit. However, those visits had a different amount charged. Unlawfully used one payment for another and insisted, or LIED, that each visit was same price, my ins eob stated otherwise. I receive shots in my knees every January, well my regular doctor is away until after the 1st of the year, So I called the Barrington office since there close to work because I tweaked my knee and it's pretty painful and going to New York for Christmas. I went in after being in significant pain since Saturday. They took some X-rays and then sent me on my way without any diagnosis or relief. Prescribed a steroid and said it should control pain. I called back and someone said they would not doing anything for pain. What's the point? I was given a medication without a diagnosis or any sense of medical care. And on top of that, the doc said go somewhere else if you're looking for narcotics. What?! I'm here because I'm in pain, not because I want drugs. The team of therapists operates seamlessly, and my ortho doc is literally forty feet away if I have some rando question. It is a joy to see these appointments pop up on my calendar; the therapists are willing to push you as far as you want to go; they're fun and friendly. 10/10 read more

pain management - though this is not their primary practice for those relying on it, Dr. Levin is kind, compassionate and an excellent technician. "X always marks the spot", as they say. My only critique is that if IBJI does not seem to prefer long term pain management. If this is the IBJI position, they should be bold enough to suggest alternative physician groups willing to accept transition of care management of long term care, since PCPs are generally not skilled enough or willing to manage pain management needs or procedures for those in need for long term med ordering or procedures such as nerve blocks. read more

I took my 2 year old daughter in today to the Hinsdale location to get her cast removed. This is her 2nd cast and she did amazing with the first removal, she didn't even flinch. TODAY was a different story. She started SCREAMING saying it's HOT. She pulled her arm away, he pulled it back and continued cutting. She screamed again and I pulled her arm away and told him go get someone else because something isn't right. Thankfully at that moment a woman came in and took over. She was amazing and did a fantastic job. When the cast came off we immediately noticed burns on her arm from the saw. The doctor brushed it off and didn't even care... no apology nothing. I HOPE the kid who started taking the cast off doesn't get to touch anyone else unless he is FULLY retrained. I am SO livid and dissapointed this happened to my little girl. read more

This review is for the IBJI location in Bourbonnais, IL. My brother just phoned and talked about his cervical injection procedure. I am very upset for him due to the unprofessional treatment he was given. Michael said that he was all prepared to go in for the injection...prepped, changed into the hospital garment...etc., when the nurse/office came in and questioned him continually about his transport to/from (which was provided by the VA) & questioned him about who was waiting for him at home. Michael told them his son was waiting for him at his residence and the nursed proceeded to say that they could not confirm this, and that the VA vehicle needed to have a lift?? The nurse then said he had 2 choices: 1) Get the injection with no sedation or 2) schedule another appointment!!! Michael was never informed of these extra requirements, drove all the way to this location from Cullom and also wasted the VA's precious time needed for other veterans. They had no compassion for his time wasted and the unprofessionalism at this location is horrible. My brother will now go through the VA hospital because he is a veteran and will be treated with respect, compassion and the professionalism a veteran deserves! read more

I'm facing an expensive and painful revision surgery due to a failed surgery by Dr. Nathan Wetters with IBJI. I underwent a fairly routine ACL repair, only for the graft to fail 5 months later without cause (no injury, just happened out of the blue, I'm otherwise healthy and active ). Dr. Wetters said "must be bad luck" and that he's never seen a case like this in his career. Other orthopedic surgeons have suggested it was likely a surgical error. Didn't offer any support, advice, or even compassion. Incredibly insensitive and non-responsive doctor, the office is so poorly run that the poof MRI department staff had to physically show-up at the office to get a signed copy of an order.
