Had a couple young guys walking the neighborhood asking residents if they needed new windows. I had most of mine replaced recently, but my living room still had its original windows from 30 years ago. The two guys offered to have someone come out and give us a quote. I thought it would be too small of a job, after all, it was just 3 windows, plus 3 panes of glass above that, and a half circle above that. So I agreed to meet with their rep the following week. Illinois Energy Windows & Siding is one of those companies that insists on both spouses attend the initial meeting. So a nice young man came the following week, measured our windows and sat down with his laptop. I showed him what windows I had replaced less than 5 months ago. He said he needed 30 minutes of our time. After 90 minutes, he still was not done. Sensing our impatience growing, he showed us his quote. Over $29,000 for one room. I told him I had a quote from the company that recently i stalled our other windows. He agreed they were good windows. He pressed a few keys on his laptop, and poof, the price is now $21,000. I told him my quote from the other company was $7,700, and poof, the new price is $19,000. See where I'm going with this? I'm sure this company makes quality windows and I'm sure the installation is fine, and I'm confident they offer a good warranty, but the way the price moved was a clear red flag to stay away from this company. read more

I've spent several years dealing with this company, and at this point it's clear the customer service, communication, and craftsmanship are all unacceptable. I paid 10K for a front door, and the trim paint has been cracking and peeling since day one. Every "repair" has been a joke. The paint never matches, and Mark--the person they keep sending--doesn't bother to mention anything or communicate. I come home to sloppy, half‑done work that looks like a landlord special. One visit, he didn't even finish caulking the base of the door. When I asked him about it later, he said, "I ran out of caulk." That's not an excuse. That's negligence. And instead of fixing it properly, he left it for me to discover and then forced me to call again to get the job completed. It got so bad last year that I demanded the brick molding be replaced because Mark had sanded off the detailing and smeared caulk everywhere trying to cover it up. Only then did the operations manager suddenly show up--unannounced. When he finally called to schedule a real meeting, he made it worse. He told me he'd replace the trim but was "too afraid" to do the work because I'm "so picky" and would "find something else to complain about." Then he actually told me I should be happy because "the door looks good from the road." Instead of owning their mistakes, he tried to make me the problem. Today I opened yet another ticket because the paint is peeling again--on areas they've already "repaired" multiple times. Same pattern: no communication, no follow‑up, and someone shows up to slap on more mismatched paint that doesn't fix anything. This company has repeatedly shown they can't deliver quality work, can't communicate, and can't take responsibility for their own poor craftsmanship. read more

We were interested in replacing our siding with Hardyboard, but decided to call IEW&S. The salesman basically told us that his product was going to be the most expensive without ever giving us a quote. He then was supposed to take photos before he left. My rating was the big push to disclose who are the decision makers. The day of the appointment they looked back at a 2020 quote where they indicated i didnt make a decision bc the decision makers were not all available. Kaylee suggested to reschedule bc i still disclose if all the decision maker were going to be available . I told her I was the decision maker. I'm surprised by the low score and negative reviews, most of which seem to be due to their marketing strategy (door-to-door) and scheduling rather than craftsmanship/pricing (re: scheduling, I assume they want all of the adults in the house present during the consultation, regardless of the decision-maker (s), so there's no "I need to speak to my wife/husband/partner" and having to schedule a second meeting). I do understand the frustration, however, I don't think it's a fair assessment. I used Illinois Energy for window replacement. The consultation process was informative and thorough. The representative took the time to understand my requirements and offered valuable suggestions. They patiently answered all my questions, which helped me feel confident in my decision. The installation team was punctual, courteous, and I feel, highly skilled. They worked efficiently and with great attention to detail. They thoroughly cleaned up and worked with care. So Tony comes by (door to door) and I sign up for an appointment as I've been wanting to replace my windows as they've been getting drafty. Not looking for anything fancy, just replace the existing 20yo windows with the same ones. Today, Mario calls to confirm the appointment, and I confirm that I'm still good for it. He starts his sales pitch on the call and I politely ask to leave it for the appointment as I gotta hop on a meeting in a bit. He asks if my wife will be there and I let him know she's working and won't be joining us. He asks to reschedule and I decline and explain that my wife and I both agreed to just go with the same window design we already have. Here's where things got strange. Mario was adamant about my wife being there. I just couldn't figure out the angle. Went back and forth about how she's not going to take off of work for a sales pitch and wound up just cancelling and will now look elsewhere. read more

Hello, my name is David and I am a U.S. Army vet and former employee of IE. I want to first say that IE does offer an amazing product. The windows are of the highest quality and everything is made custom for your home which is something truly unique. However, what's also unique is how horribly the business has been ran. I started working here about 3 weeks ago, and since I started it has been a downhill experience. Initially I was met with open arms and a hope that I would have a great experience working here. I was connected to the manager Jeff by a good friend of mine since I had been struggling to find a new job during the pandemic. Before the pandemic hit I was going to college full time and helping run a non-profit business that helped veterans like myself find jobs in the music festival industry. Since the live music industry took a big hit I decided to take the year away from school and work for the time being so my fiancé and I could move into our first home together. On the day of my interview my first red flag was that no one around the office wore a mask. I had opened up to Jeff about how important it was that people were being safe and he at first seemed to understand the struggles people were going through because of the pandemic, but on my first day of work I soon realized this company had no care for its employees health. All the canvassers who worked door to door sales would all drive packed into cars out into neighborhoods all day with no masks on. Some would even go up to people's doors and not even wear a mask while talking to them. Around this point and time I began to express concern to my fiancé and I began looking for a new job. About a week later I noticed Jeff wasn't coming into the office anymore and I would see Paul, Mario, and other management speaking in private and not really giving any answers on if people were getting sick. My fiancé and I woke up that Sunday and we felt horribly ill. I called off work with my fiancé and we both went and got tested. I reached out to one of my co-workers who also wasn't feeling good and he had said he couldn't smell or taste anything. That is when I knew something was wrong. My friend who referred me to the position then shared with me that Jeff had posted on Facebook the day before that he has been in the hospital with Covid and Pnuemonia, and I had not been made aware that I was in close proximity to someone who tested positive. People continued to not wear masks while at work, and drive in packed cars. Before this Jeff was training high school in closed space not wearing masks and being very close to people. I wore a mask all day at work so thankfully my fiancé and I did test negative for the virus. When I returned to work I demanded that I not drive with everyone else and drive my own vehicle. Only after I said that did they enforce everyone driving in their own vehicles, but even up until the day I quit yesterday people were still driving together and not social distancing in the slightest bit. Jeff and the other managers have created a truly toxic environment. Jeff laid in a hospital bed near death and didn't have the sympathy or remorse to correct his wrong doings. When I put in my two weeks they told me it would be better off if I left right away and didn't come back. On a final note if you have younger kids working here please have them find other employment. Jeff during training would let high schoolers smoke vapes literally right in front of him, and would talk about movies he likes to watch such as "Honky Holocaust" and make racial and sexist jokes around the office. I made this post because during this time it's important to keen people safe and provide a safe work environment for employees, and Illinois energy is not doing that. This is a great product and service they are offering, but the canvassing department is a ticking time bomb heading towards disaster. I have served my country and run my own business prior to this year and like to believe I know how to do the right thing and show good leadership. If I was sick and knew that I could have just gotten all my employees sick I would have made that known. There are some great people working here who truly want to get better in the sales world and learn about the industry, but the people in charge are their ultimate downfall. We had an appt set up for 5:30 today to discuss siding, windows and a new front door. They call me to confirm the appt and the first thing she mentioned is that the siding will probably cost more than what the insurance paid yet she doesn't even know what was paid for replacement or what we would pay extra, kind of a rude tone too. She went on about how their siding is very expensive high quality siding and I said great, we we are looking for quality siding. Then she starts asking about my wife and if she will be there, I let her know she would not be here, she had last minute appt and could not attend. Long story short they wanted to reschedule since my wife wasn't going to be here and they said it would be at least a 60-90 minute visit. I had to work around some things for this appt to make it happen so I am not happy about it but based on interaction its probably a good thing. I chose not to reschedule. read more

I would be making the decision since half of my windows have already been replaced in our house and all I needed was a match. Still push back and they were suggesting a reschedule so she can be available. They said they would call back and when my appointment time came and went I called to see if the rep was coming. They said he called my cell phone to cancel which did not happen becasue I have no record of it on my recent call list. Called for a siding quote. The woman asked if all the decision-makers will be there I said yes. I own the home and am the only decision-maker. She said so you are not married. I said that was a personal question and I do not want to answer. She explained that they want to make sure that the correct people are at the meeting so there are no mistakes. I said again I own the home and am the only decision-maker. I told her I pay the bills, I own the house no one else, and I make all the decisions. However, this was not good enough for her she wanted to know my marital status. . This went on for a few rounds and I finally hung up. Needing to take the time to review Illinois Energy for windows that were installed in my home. I will tell you there is nothing harder than shopping for windows for your home. I can think of numerous things that is easier do like teeth extractions, removing a bot fly from my eye lid, shopping for a car, etc. There are so many companies to choose from and some many options and variations. I cannot tell you this is the company to use. It's the same reason why you chose to buy the car you are currently driving. Yours and my opinions and criteria differ from each other. That's what makes the human population so unique in the animal kingdom. My wife and I started shopping for windows quite some years ago. We entertained many window companies, some being REALLY expensive and some quite CHEAP. Tristan at Illinois Energy was one of the representatives sent to our house. I will say, Tristan is a really nice guy and super humble. He will talk to you like a human being and not down or at you. He will talk to you. There's a difference. Some guys will tell you, you need, their windows. Others may not. Tristan was really understanding when he was told that we were shopping other companies as a smart and educated consumer should do. We got our quotes from several companies and decided new windows for the home was out of our pricing range at that moment. Fast forward to present day. We called back the three companies we really enjoyed talking to, as we were financially ready to make a purchase for our home. Tristan from Illinois Energy really stuck out out in our minds because he was the most succinct and seemingly honest about windows. One company we had over was here for hours and hours. The salesmen, (yes, this is plural), were very friendly and if I didn't like them in my house I would've asked them to leave. The big turn off for me was, this is our price scheme, but if you decide to go with us today we can do it for a lower price. We'll give you 10 minutes to think about it. They go out to their car, put supplies away and chit chat. They then come back even after telling them you're not ready to sign on the dotted line, they say how sorry they are but wait! If you sign on the dotted line today we can knock the bill down substantially and you call all other appointments and cancel them right now! That's not how I roll. I believe in everyone getting a fair chance to be heard. I figure, if that price is good only for today, then that price should be good for a few weeks. We did our due diligence and researched the companies on The Better Business Bureau. The cheapest company had complaints but I believe it was mostly due to scheduling errors and things of that nature and had been registered on the BBB for at least 12 yrs. The best price today company if you don't act had numerous complaints on the BBB mostly regarding warranty replacement of windows and parts. They were only registered with the BBB for the last 2 yrs but oddly we are were quoted by them over 3 yrs ago and they claim to be a local company for over 40 yrs. Illinois Energy had one complaint on the BBB and Tristan, our salesman was named in it. Tristan never hid that fact and informed us about it. After reading the complaint it appears the blame could fall on the homeowner and the salesman. It looks like a miscommunication between the parties. Here's what we found out about Illinois Energy. They've been registered with the BBB since 2002 and the one and only complaint was from the last 3 yrs. Finally, we decided on Illinois Energy. I can't tell you how they stack up to other window companies. I don't know if I got the Rolls Royce of windows or the Chrysler of windows. While they were not the cheapest they definitely weren't the most expensive. I am hoping that for the price we got the Honda of windows. A contract was signed and the order was submitted. Now, we were told ordering manufacturing and installation of the windows could take anywhere from 12-20 weeks. I am an understanding person and this was completely understandable to me. To be fair, I believe the windows were installed about the 13th week after signing. Windows were installed in early February, quite a chilly month, but they were installed in a day. I will say I noticed a difference in temperature in the house that evening. As of today as I write this, the furnace definitely isn't cycling nearly as much as it was with our old drafty windows. I am really looking forward to this summer to see if our cooling bill reduces or not. Do we recommend Illinois Energy for your window needs? We do. Purchasing windows is a lifetime commitment for you and the home. The best part is, the lifetime warranty on the windows is transferable to new home owners, should you ever sell your home. Screens included. We liked their options of style of window, color vinyl for windows, etc. Could I have done this job myself? The build quality of the windows are very impressive along with the fit and finish work. We were reluctant to spend so much money on "windows" but the quality and craftsmanship speak volumes. I'm very happy with the end result and would definitely recommend this company to others. The window warranty is solid with a lifetime transferable warranty. Financing was extremely good! Made an appt for Saturday morning to get a quote for siding. Explained when scheduling that our homeowners insurance was requesting quotes, was told that they do not work with insurance-I said that was fine & just needed to get a quote. Wanted other homeowners info- gave name only- but he needed to be present. Told me they would call Saturday before coming & we needed to answer the phone or they would not come. Saturday confirmation call person starts questioning the appointment & then cancels as we would be wasting their time due to their high end, expensive siding. Told me once I had money from insurance they would then meet with us. As the customer- they actually wasted my time, and took the 1 free Saturday morning I have had in 8 weeks for no reason. Even though I told umpteem number of times, I don't need estimate, he wouldn't leave our house. So I asked him to give free estimate just to get rid of him. Now the company keeps on calling saying we filled out a form for free estimates. Never use this company which pesters customers like this. This tells that they can't get customers through referrals. Mine was a smaller siding job.. approx. 400 sq. Ft. The agreed upon price was $4600 for insulated vinyl siding. First let me start with the good. Good price to start with. Sales guy was decent although a little hurried. Now the bad. The quote was vague. I wanted my old wood siding taken out and that was the understanding I had when I talked with the sales person. I also wanted an additional 1 inch insulation board added underneath the siding. A foreman was supposed to come and talk to me but never did. They never shipped the foam board. So I ended up having to call them and get a quarter inch foam board installed on top of my existing wood siding (so much for having it removed). They charged me an extra $300 to have the foam board installed. Then they demanded an extra $300 when i asked them to tape the seams of the foam board but I was able to negotiate/ quarrel out of that. Now this is the 3rd day that I have a pile of scrap on my front yard that the company is supposed to pick up. Overall very frustrating experience. If you choose this company, make sure that the quote is very detailed and lists everything you want. Unless you will end up having a frustrating experience like I did. read more

Me and my wife have been calling for a week or so and left multiple messages and have neither of us have received a call back!! Our back patio door had been leaking for awhile, especially when the rains come from the west ( its a west facing door). And the window next to its seal had broken and it was all cloudy. They were both 20 years old and builders grade. Every stage of the way Illinois Energy was very professional and they use quality materials. Had a door knocker today at my house. I am actually in the market for windows and siding. I looked at his flyer and saw the color siding my wife and I were wanting, so I said go ahead and set me up for an appointment. Got a call from another lady calling to confirm my time, and I was still good for that time. She insisted that my wife be available and I said she might be but if not, I can handle it because we know what we want and it's my project to work on. She was so pushy that I said to lose my number and she agreed pretty quickly. I feel bad for the sales team here because you have folks that work hard to generate leads and it takes a bad experience like this to lose the lead. read more

Made an appointment for 2pm to have them quote us on doors and windows, for a property we are purchasing. Drove 45 minutes to the property and we get a call saying they wont come out until we close on the property. Even though we told her all of this before we ever even made an appointment!! So we went out to the property for nothing. The whole point of the quote is to build the prices into our construction loan, which we need before we close. And apparently they dont give quotes. We are investors and we do a lot of houses in Chicago. So they just lost the business on this 12,000 sqft house and any future houses we do. Great business strategy. read more

I'm in sales, President & CEO of a digital/influencer marketing company I stared in college 20/years ago. One thing that really gets me fired up is some random company salesmen (From Illinois Energy Siding & Windows) ringing my doorbell peddling windows and siding. Not only am I busy working, watching my kids at home but to listen to the guy continually ramble on with run-on sentences telling me I need windows and doors. Entry door is brand new which anyone would tell and windows are like 10/years old (just like the entire subdivision). They asked crazy stuff like when my wife will be home, would be okay to call, how big my "junk" is and if it's okay to estimate the house. Something about a spring discount (GTFO of here) of 20% before prices increase, yada yada yada. No more Soliciting please or next time I will not be as nice and provide you with not only with a negative review but an army of them. Use a solid company that doesn't constantly nag you. If you're in the south/north city, Newtec Windows cannot be beat (they run their own manufacturing factory and are great). They did 3/houses of mine since 2008. If you live in south suburbs, go with Window Worx in Joliet, hands down. These two companies are the cream of the crop with crazy impressive pricing and results. read more
