Illusion Salon can be found on the corner of Marion & Booth St. This location has no flashy colors, nor any gaudy signs. It is a simple replication of a log cabin within walking distance of the Harborwalk Trail and the Vietnam Wall. Inside are the familiar amenities of most modern salons. Including name brand products, hair washing stations, and manicure stations. Along with knowledgeable stylist who are familiar with the latest trending cuts. During my haircut today, I looked into the mirror as my stylist Sonya stood over my shoulder. Watching the making of a perfect haircut. For a brief moment I saw the image of someone I once was before. It was not so much that the haircut made my appearance look younger. I selected Matt because he looked like a dream, but also he looked skilled, like an artist who had a way with his hands. But if you are seeking conversation, don't choose him. He was so reluctant to communicate that he did not ask me what I wanted on the sides or the bangs and there he was beginning. If I asked a question - interrupted him - he clearly did not like it! I had just said I needed volume and he began to cut a great deal of my hair and I trusted him, but now, later, there is no volume at all, just flatness. And the color too, disappointed me. And there were times during my visit he just disappeared. There is a sign outside the salon which reads about how they will make your day so uplifting and I just felt quite alone - and penniless - when I left there. read more

I am so happy with the service at Illusions Salon. My hair was a hot mess! I usually do my hair myself but I ran out of products while sailing around Alaska. I tried a box dye but turned it bright orange. A friend let me have some bleach and developer to try and fix it but to no avail. I arrived in Florida to visit with my boyfriends family just before New Years and found Illusions Salon on Paul Mitchell's locator. Shelby was fantastic! She was kind and professional. The entire staff at Illusions Salon & Spa are professional, friendly and add to the whole experience. Last Saturday, Sonya cut my hair and it was just the right style and just the right amount off, length wise, that it was lighter, cooler and noticeable that I had a new look. Then I went in for eyebrow waxing and tinting and that experience was amazing-wow what a difference and so relaxing. Can't wait to go back soon for a facial. Quite possibly the worst experience I've ever had at any salon. First time visit and I've never had a stylist (MATT) deliver such horrifically poor customer service and unprofessional care as Matt did during my visit. I asked for partial highlights/lowlights and what I received was a torture treatment every step of the way. Rough, unpersonable and void of communication. My head sat in the wash bowl for 30 mins after with no communication. Then I experienced his shampoo/conditioner treatment that should feel relaxing and therapeutic. WRONG. I couldn't wait for it to be over and wouldn't expect his rushed heavy handed treatment even on the dirtiest dog. This, followed by the worst most uncomfortable blowout style - of which he mumbled "how do you want it..." only to whip through my long hair with a hard bristle torture brush roundhouse to my face several times and a final Edward Scissor hands sweep in the most chaotic manner to make me look like I just came out of a hurricane. Awful treatment. To top it off my lowlight ended up a brassy golden/auburn - the exact opposite of what I asked for. I'd be lying if I said my entire head wasn't completely assaulted. Thank god I didn't get a hair cut! I looked better before I arrived.If you want someone who doesn't care, listen, communicate or have a kind technique, visit Matt! On a final note, the front desk staff doesn't seem to care much either after I waited to checkout with zero customer service communication at all. I expected more and received a miserable waste of my afternoon much to my head, hair and overpriced expense. read more

Shelby, the stylist who helped me with a color correction as my gray grows out was awesome. She took time to chat with me before the process to find out what I wanted to achieve - then she got to work. I couldn't be more pleased!!! When I came in I had let my color grow off for a month. I not only had a skunk stripe, but my color had faded to an orange/gold color - no longer brown. Shelby added in highlights, lowlights and toners to help my gray blend and get rid of the awful orange/gold color. She is truly a master artist. She even massaged my neck to make it feel better after I mentioned that the wash basin made it hurt. Shelby is truly amazing. read more

Had a standard mani/pedi. Not to spoil the polish I even had the cashier take the credit card out of my purse and return it to my purse. Over an hour later I noticed the polish was still not dry. In fact it just rolled off my nails like wet putty. Called the salon to inform them of the situation. I was given the option of returning and redoing or a credit. Since I had recently had surgery it was difficult for me to return so I requested a credit. Five days later and no credit has come through on my account. Called again and spoke to the owner. Informed me misunderstanding, she thought I was coming back in. Apologized and said a credit would be issued. Another five days and no credit. read more

The most unprofessional salon I have ever been to in my life. I had an issue and called and asked to speak with the owner. . She was busy and said she would call me back. Never got a call back. I called back Again and the owner Sonya didn't resolve the issue. She's rude, callous, and downright unprofessional. She has no idea how to run a business. She has no customer service skills whatsoever. The combination of watching her walk around barking at everyone and her not giving a care about the customers is enough for me to not step foot in that dump again. I tell everyone I know not to step foot in there. I work hard for my money and it will not be spent at someone's business who does not care about the customers. read more
