We just had our annual NYE dinner from here, the food was great, nothing was burnt or overcooked, or smelled/tasted weird, the staff were friendly, I'm not understanding all of the terrible reviews. Yes, the rice is darker than other Chinese places, but it's been like that since they opened, it's not something new, it's not "bad," it's just how it is. For a while they had changed the crab rangoon wrappers and they were awful, but I was delighted to find they're using the old ones again! Keep on keeping on Imperial Garden! I don't know how anyone can give this place more than 1 star, I guess they have different taste buds than I do. First of all, it's strictly take out. There is a tiny room where you can wait for your food with one chair next to the door. The rice is dark brown, the pictures people post are accurate. It tastes like it was soaked in concentrated soy sauce, then overcooked or even burned. It is so salty, I felt like my blood pressure was rising. The chicken wings were so over cooked, they were like raw hide. I gave this place a couple of tries because it's the closest Chinese place to me, but it was consistently awful. The prices are way to high for the quality of the food and no service. Do yourself a favor and either drive to Rochester, or go to a different type of restaurant. read more

I just stopped going here period. I'll make the drive to Rochester for better quality food. Their rice is weird, its very Dark Brown in appearance (fried rice), usually mushy. In my case the entree's have been over cooked, Recently I had ordered Lo Mein and when i got home it was burnt, and smelled horrific, it wasnt even edible. Kung Pao chicken is very good. The fried rice is not my favorite. Crab Rangoon are also good. Always fast and always open.

It's not fancy and it's not the best. However it's quick and edible when you want takeout and don't want to drive to Rochester. It's the best takeout for quick and cheap Chinese food in the immediate area. JP China in Alton is absolutely disgusting and has a weird after taste, so I avoid it at all costs!!! The crab rangoon and house fried rice are my favorites on their menu. We tend to get a pupu platter and rice or lo mein, which feeds the entire family. Unfortunately the clientele is less than favorable so the dine in option is uncomfortable at best. If you go to pickup food past 5pm you will be greeted at the door with a cloud full of smoke from the crowd gathered ripping butts and swearing like sailors. read more

We went in tonight to try this place for the first time and we were met with the rudest people. We were hesitant at first because the place is shabby and run down and looks like it would pass a health inspection. We stood there for 10 minutes waiting for our order to be taken. Apparently staring at their cell phone was much more important then taking an order from a potential customer. When we tried to get the employees attention we were given the dirtiest looks. Needless to say we left and will never return. I am sure we probably dodged food poisoning from some sort of mystery meat, thankful for that. read more

I purposely went out of my way to try this restaurant. I phoned in an order tonight, got there earlier than expected. I was greeted by a nice, polite young woman that said it wasn't quite ready. So, I went to the bar and a woman at the end with her hand holding up her head and sipping on a drink said, "do you want a drink"? I said yes, I would like a Mai Tai. She had absolutely NO personality, went about making the drink ( that was terrible), without out any verbal or eye contact . I can't fathom a bartender who depends on tips be so rude. That being said, my food was ready, I left got home and the food wasn't any better. Egg Foo Yung was burnt and the rice over cooked. I'll never go there again! read more

Everything on the menu is good, but the boneless ribs- hot damn. And for only 8 bucks I got a chinese food box overflowing with these perfectly sweet+salty+savory ribs. Could not be happier with my purchase and everyone there is friendly as well! Strongly reccomend. read more

This is the only Chinese food place around, but that is okay because it's good food. I wish they delivered however. The last time we went the girl gave our food to the wrong person so we had to wait while they mad our order fresh. This was a bit of an inconvenience and I think they should have offered us something sine we waited an extra ten minutes. read more

not bad for a small town. Some stuff is ok and some is soso but for the staples lo mein rice and pork and chicken it's not bad. Beef Teriyaki is really good. Fast service. I prefer it when they load the fried rice with lots of burnt onions. The rice is a deep dark color and very tasty. I add the duck sauce on it. I love their deep fried shrimp. Can't complain! Crab Ragoons are good. Egg Foo young. General Taos chicken, pork lo mein, they also have various special dishes that are good. many of those come with free white rice..I just add it into the fried rice with some butter and pepper and good to go! read more

I have been ordering from the Imperial Garden since they opened around 15 years ago. Their food is among the best American-Chinese food in the area. Their food is cooked a little darker than you find in other establishments but it is also crispier, more flavorful, less soggy, and less greasy than you find elsewhere, this includes the chicken wings, boneless spareribs, egg rolls, pork fried rice, and lo mein. Their General Tso's is crispy and the sauce is rich and spicy with a lot of garlic and pepper. A Chinese restaurant can often be judged on the quality of its duck sauce, packets of fluorescent pink syrup with no other flavor than "oddly sweet" on one end of the spectrum and on the other a thick dark-brown sauce that tastes like plumbs and apricots. Imperial Garden is deep set on the quality end of the spectrum. Portion sizes are good and the prices are competitive with smaller take out restaurants in the area, while the quality matches or exceeds the larger sit down places. read more
