I met TOM CIGUR, the owner back in 2017. I bought a 2nd hand car from him which didn't last 6 months I should have known about his integrity, then. After that sale, I still did business with Tom, because I thought he was a good man & wanted to support a local business. I owned a beautifully maintained 2004 Vespa which I brought in for service for a battery change. Nelson his mechanic knew about scooters was given the task to install new battery, then a verbal agreement for storage until an undetermined time. Then, 2018, MY devastating car accident in which I was run over & ended up in the ICU unit fighting for my life.. Spent 1+ year @ the ICU unit in Evanston Hospital, 2018 & 2019 was PAINFUL REHAB to relearn to walk/talk after almost being killed by an UBER driver. It was a miracle I survived. During the long, painful recovery I would phone IMPORT MOTORS ON my cell by my bed (cell phone records attest to my contacting him at Import from 2018/2020.) Those records will be produced in my PENDING CIVIL action VS. TOM CIGUR. I kept in contact as did my sister who checked on the VESPA, she even gave Nelson $200 dollars for storage which I hadn't paid since I entered into the hospital. At no time during 2018-2020 did I hear from Tom or IMPORT MOTORS, NOT ONE message about storage fees or asking me to P/U. I, by contrast from my hospital ICU bed phoned asking, "He said everything was fine", or so I thought. He told EPD he called 5x & left word, he never called me ONCE from 2018-2020. After 2 yrs. of rehab, grateful to be alive. I rang TOM last week only to be met w/amnesia. The plan was to pick up the VESPA after the 2 years & now, prepared & ready to take it back after Import Domestic Auto Service were entrusted to hold it in storage from 2018-2020. When Tom answered he said "He didn't know where it was?." I was shocked! How could he not know where it was? Then I spoke with Nelson who said sarcastically "The VESPA from 2 years ago, I only work here I have no idea?", then promptly hung up the phone. When I called back they told me he left. Very suspicious & I began to worry about my VESPA. So, it went, I called for days & Tom would answer * say " I don't know what happened?!!!. This carried on for a week, then he stopped taking my calls and kept hanging up on me when he saw my number on the caller ID.. The business would later BLOCK MY NUMBER. GUILTY BEHAVIOR?! WHERE IS MY PROPERTY AFTER 2/YRS. WHY NOT COOPERATE WITH POLICE or tell me the whereabouts?. NO ANSWERS & I FEARED the WORST, my nightmare only started with a very SAD outcome of AN ERRENOUS BREACH OF TRUST. TOM WAS A BAD MAN/VILLIAN,. ALL calls went UNANSWEREED & HE REFUSED TO HELP?! My children were HEARTBROKEN, that VESPA took them to school every day,. Only to be robbed whilst in Evanston Hospital ICU fighting for my life! No one gave a dam to steal my children's transportation or express any regret to his actions whilst mom was recuperating in the hospital for 2+ years. COVID all over the world & these are the actions of the unconscionable owner(s) & mechanic , NELSON. TOM CIGUR is a CROOK, HE committed a CRIME of THEFT/breach of trust!! EPD contacted him & he recovered his memory to say that, "He sold it for scrap!". He claimed that it was abandoned property & that he had the right to sell it. TOM IS A CROOK & crime has transpired. Nelson his mechanic was an accomplice to the THEFT of the VESPA 2004 ET2. By Illinois LAW THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS IS 5 YEARS, NOT 2 for abandoned property. I plan to file a civil action & sue TOM and Import Motors for $3.5K. He thought I would never come back & died in COVID. Vespa is worth 3.5K, who would see it for scrap? The entrance is REALLY hard to find. In fact, I had no idea it existed after living in Evanston for 3 years because it's not on any of the main streets. Pretty sure you have to be looking for it to find where it is. This place came recommended by my landlord's friend who uses the garage in the back yard of the building I rent. Random, but I needed a mechanic and he was the only person I "knew" in town to know anything about cars. He restores them, yet still brings whatever he couldn't to Tom here. Unfortunately, he only mentioned "Davis" and "alley" in passing, so it took some effort to find this place. So to get there, you have to go in the alley between Church and Davis from either Maple or Oak. The easiest way to find it for us was to go into EV1 Liquors on foot from the Davis entrance and leave through their back door, and the shop's entrance is on the right - then we realized where the alley was and knew where to bring our car. My car wouldn't start in the cold. I called and explained my problem, and no appointments were necessary, so I brought it in on my lunch hour one random day next week, and they were very prompt. Left car there with information in 5 minutes, got a call with a diagnosis and a quote within 45min, job was done by 6pm. There was a sign in the office that said labor = $88/hr. Not sure if that's high for a mechanic, but my quote compared to what I read online was supposedly reasonable, so I went ahead with it. Also, the cable that opens my front hood was also rusty, so he lubed it for us. It needed another $150 to be fixed, but he showed us how to reset the latch manually with a screwdriver instead of pressure us into fixing it. I'll probably get that fixed here some time in the future. They're very nice people. read more

He was efficient and helpful. My MINI's check engine light came on. I get there and he says "I'll call you in an hour to tell you what the problem is." Exactly one hour later- he calls me and tells me I need a new air filter/ something else. 2 days after dropping my car off it is ready to be picked up! Cannot recommend this place enough!!! I brought my vehicle in just before the shop closed on a Saturday afternoon with a pretty serious anti-freeze leak. The put a temp fix on it so I could use it but the fix didn't work after I drove away about 8 miles. So I had to wait until Monday for them to be open and repair the trouble properly. Once I dropped my vehicle off Monday morning, they promptly and properly repaired my vehicle at no additional cost to the temp fix! And it was ready that same day just a bit after noon! I really appreciated that they didn't try to gouge me for an extra charge for the permanent repair as some other repair service places are in the practice of doing. I recently was having many issues with my car. I gave a call and Nelson was the guy on the job. He told me i needed a tune up and new brake pads. The process was smooth sailing. Responsive, kind, fast service. Had a flat tire and didn't know how to get out vehicle there or the cause. We didn't know what it would cost to repair but he gave us estimates beforehand and found a nail so it was an inexpensive fix. My car windshield window got broken by the huge hailstorm on 4/8/2020. We called the owner and he quoted $335 (the price for cash payment only) to replace the window + $65 for oil change. We brought the car in the next day and went to pick up the car in the afternoon after being told that service was done. Before handing him the payment, my husband check the car and saw NO work was done for oil change. The owner started shouting "Don't B.S." My husband asked him to check with his own eyes before denying. He did and he admitted that my husband was right - NO oil change work had been performed. He called his worker in and his worker insisted that he had performed the oil change. My husband left while they were fighting, after making the payment only for the glass replacement with some extra dollars left for tips in an effort to get out of the scene. When we got home, we checked the window work and noticed that there was a gap (big enough to allow gushes of water to go through and flood into the area under the hood) at both of the lower corners of the windshield glass, with the gap on one side is much bigger caused by a missing section of the plastic mold. Called the owner right away. He said that it must have been the glass guy (his contractor on the job) who had broken the mold while installing the glass and that he will call him to come in if we would bring the car in the next day. We brought the car back in the next day. At the end of the day, he told my husband that the gaps were normal and the missing section of the mold was actually caused by the hailstorm and refused to do anything to seal the gaps. On the 3rd day, I even personally went to the dealership and took photos of the good windshields to show him how the proper installation should be. He asked me "What do you want me to do with it?" I said "I want you to fix it. " He responded " I made only $40 on the job. I am not going to do it." and then shut the garage door. To be honest, his response was beyond what I have ever imagined how a business owner would give to his customer. I was left speechless outside of his garage. read more

This place is not as good as the reviews say. First I took my BMW there and they fixed most of the things on it, but my BMW still reads service soon on the screen. I asked about it Thomas the owner of the place told me he couldn't take it off after he service the truck. Second I took my Cadillac right after the BMW was serviced they fixed one problem and told me about another problem so I had them fix it only to have them cause another problem. I asked about the noise I didn't have before I brought it there I was heard after they worked on it, and Thomas told me once again he didn't know wear the noise is coming from, but he can hear the noise. WARNING PEOPLE!!! This place is not complete car care service. They will fix only what they know they can. They are still pricey for basic work done on vehicles. read more

I took my car there for a transmission issue based on Yelp feedback. I explained the issue and they said it needed $250 basic transmission service without even looking at it. They did some other stuff and over $400 later, I picked it up and they said it was running much better.. The next morning, I still had the problem. I called them and again without even looking at it stated it would be over $1800 over the phone and that I wouldn't get a better deal anywhere. When I inquired about the $250 I already paid for transmission service, they stated that their quote included the discount...I took it to Transcraft who did 2 days of research before diagnosing the problem. My transmission did need to be rebuilt and they did it for $1600. I will never bring my car to Import $ Domestic again. If you have transmission issues, take it to Mike at Transcraft. That's all he does. read more

Great business. Great work ethic. I will never go back to a dealer ever again. I was told by Marino Jeep on Irving Park that I needed a rebuild on my transmission. I have a Jeep with a Maercedes Benz diesel engine and heard IDAR works on a lot of European cars. They called me to come back in as they had noticed that the the transmission was never even opened to see if there was a problem. It turned out that the fluid was low. The dealer never even took the time to look at the transmission and was merely going to replace it. NEVER GO TO MARINO . These guys are fantastic and go the extra distance to make sure you come back. read more

Recognizing that occasionally bad things happen, my experience with Import & Domestic in the winter of 2014 was either a case of very, very bad luck or of very bad work. I find it hard to believe that it all could be luck, but my experience with them was so poor I'd have to be nuts to go back. I really am prepared to believe that these guys know what they are doing with certain car makes/models, but I greatly regret having them do any work on my 2000 Civic. The work in question was a seals replacement/timing belt job. Of this work, I am thankful that the timing belt work appears to have bene done properly. As for the seals, the car had modest oil leakage before I had the work done. After the seal job, the engine would simply gush oil once it got hot enough, so much so that you could lose your entire oil supply in an hour. This was very hard to pin down, as the fluids would generally come out when you were on the road, and when you checked it next dive, there'd be a bit of a spill (consistent with the leakage pre-seal job) and almost no oil in the car. It took a long drive for me to realize what was happening, and to get to my destination I went through five wuarts of oil. The oil went everywhere on the undercarriage, so to get the car back in shape, I not only had to have the distributor, crank shaft seal, o-ring, oil seal, oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket all replaced, but also have my front brake rotors resurfaced and the brake calipers cleaned and lubricated. In the end, I also had to have the crank shaft itself replaced. All this to the tune of $3000 additional AFTER the cost of the seal job. I can add that the radiator also failed on the first drive after picking the car up after the seal job. It was old, but it was functional before the work was done. Something done during the seal job pushed it into its waiting grave. The team at I&D were baffled by this failure initially, something in retrospect I can't understand, as the behavior of a leaky radiator ought to be predictable. But ultimately, this was a small problem with a modest repair cost for a piece of hardware whose lifespan was up anyway. I had the radiator replacement done there, and it has continued to work in the 18 months since that time. At the same time that this work was done, I was beginning to notice my baffling loss of oil (I am not a car expert, but I try to manage basic maintenance competently, monitoring oil and fluid levels). I described the problem to them, and all I got was a combination of disbelief and reassurance that everything was fine. I feel there was a genuine language barrier between me and the principal guy at I&D.- he couldn't believe me when I described the problem, and I was having a problem believing that I was having these problems- that the car was in far worse shape after the seal job than before. Nowadays I use Rolf's on Dempster- they are professional and effective. Before my bad I&D experience, I went to O&J off Devon. Omar was a Honda repair god, and I curse him for retiring. Again, I recognize s%&t happens; Import & Domestic may be able to handle your work just fine. But working with them was a scar on my car and my pocketbook and nothing can change the fact that this monster experience hatched in their garage. read more
