Had a wonderful manicure experience with Jessy as a walk-in, including being able to watch the election results on the tv directly overhead. Chatted with a friendly woman next to me. Loved the paraffin dip and upper back massage accompanying, which aren't usually included elsewhere. I like unusual colors and variety (particularly with shimmer) and Impress had a wonderful variety of gel color options-including lots of classic reds I go for....but also plenty of amazing blues and greens and peaches, etc. I'm so picky I can usually only find 1 or 2 colors at a place that I like. Here, I'll have a dozen I'll try-a record for me! OMG-the tea. I was offered coffee or tea by the lovely owner shortly after being greeted. SAY YES TO THE TEA. It was described to me as a black-green blend and was probably the best tea I've ever tasted in my life. I like 'em earthy and it tasted a little like an oolong...but with a unique flavor. Amaaaaaaazing. I wish they sold the tea! I made an appointment for a pedicure on the weekend. They're having a $10 off special and the menu of offerings was impressive. read more

The people are nice. i got a powder and it lasted a week. it was so cheap. I walked in and ask how much for powder. they said $45. When the tech started I noticed she put the powder before cleaning my nail. I asked her what she doing , she tells me if I want a clean it's $10 more. Never in my world, I seen or heard of getting your nails done and it's not cleaned . She said it's $10 more for a manicure. that was the first time I ever heard of that so it end up being $55 for powder on my natural nails. My nails chipped ,it just came off , literally last a week and a half. when I get my nails done, they usually last 2 1/2 weeks. The product is cheap. read more

Went in for dip manicure and service was overall mixed. The owner and her staff are all very nice and pleasant, but the nail tech was too rough with cuticles and as a result cause too many tiny cuts. This wasn't a result of being rushed because tech took her time. Dip powder was nicely down except for the fact that within six days the nail color started to crack on several nails, and a few days after that a few nails on dominant hand chipped at corners. I dont know if the powder or setting was old or not well sealed or whatever, but i expect better. Will not return read more

Being a man it's very hard feeling comfortable getting a manicure and pedicure. Someone recommend this salon and I felt right at home in a sea of women. I normally never write reviews but I felt so inclined after such a bad experience. I thought I would give this place a try after reading some positive reviews. The gel manicure started off fine but quickly went south. I hadn't had a manicure in quite a long time so my cuticles were in need of some real TLC. The girl who did my manicure pushed them so far back that when it came time to clip them there was nothing to cut. Also I found it strange that u don't soak your nails while she is working on the other hand. But maybe not every place does it the same. When it came time to paint them it was so rushed and I now have gel polish both clear and color all over my nails. After she was finished painting she took a nail file to get the excess paint off the sides and corners which did not bode well. The only reason for my 2 Stars is because they do a paraffin wax and quick massage at the end of the manure. I for sure will not be returning even though by signing up for there rewards program I now have $5 off my next service. read more

I was everything BUT IMPRESSed with this nail salon...I do NOT recommend getting a dip manicure from here. I had been getting dip consistently prior to COVID19, all with my regular salon and nail techs (Princess Nails in Medford - THE BEST!!) But then with the closure of salons, I eventually soaked all the dip off and resorted to home self-manicures...boring..but wasn't about to try DIY dip. When salons opened up again, I booked a full dip mani - brand new on my almost-virgin-again nails. Unfortunately, due to staying with and helping family in Needham during COVID, I wasn't able to book at my regular salon. My sister recommended Impress nails after trying them once for a regular manicure - should've thought twice since she hadn't experienced their dip services.. So here I am at Impress nails, first time back in a salon so I'm excited AF. I know those who've made it this far in my review know what I'm talking about (!!) I'm told to pick out a dip color and did not feel rushed while doing this. I picked a light pink #120, but I guess they didn't have it. Chose something similar while wondering if they really ran out of 120 or couldn't locate it.. Wendy was the nail tech who did my dip. She was quiet but friendly and we briefly chatted while wearing masks behind the plexiglass divider. As she was doing my nails, there were times I felt compelled to voice concerns (eg you missed this cuticle) but I started to feel like I was saying too much, kinda just got that weird vibe that I should stop pointing out things, so I shut my mouth and trusted the process...I could tell fairly quickly that I probably wasn't going to be happy with the outcome, but thought oh well. I noticed that the manager purposefully came over to my salon table, watched for a minute, then picked up my hands to inspect the nail tech's work. At that point I should've spoken up, but I didn't want to make Wendy feel bad by saying she was doing a poor job. I figured the manager was just checking in as she would with all clients since she's in charge - wrong - I later found out from my mother who was sitting beside me that the manager said something along the lines of "she's new here" while looking at my nails. Makes sense why she'd be checking my nails..unfortunately, I really didn't hear the manager when she said this, so found out Wendy was new after the fact. Long story short, Wendy was nice, but needs some practice and improvement on her dip technique. I feel badly naming her, but I want others to know my experience. Manicure was on 7/11 and the photos were taken 7/20, 9 days after. I wish I took photos one day after as my right ring finger had already chipped (it's prob the most damaged in photo). While I was upset, I know it can happen and shrugged it off. The rest of the nails looked passable but by no means did I leave feeling happy. It wasn't until a few days after when your nails are growing out that you can tell how poorly the dip is. You can see in the photos, nearly all my nails have chipped to some degree, most at the very ends. I would assume this was because not enough dip powder was applied to the tops of each. None of my daily activities would result in my nails all becoming damaged. These are the results of poor powder application. It starts with cleaning the nails and cuticles - if the cuticles are half cut, the powder applied will grow out uneven. I also HATED how thick my nails were. In my regular salon they take the thin pointy drill (looks like the end of a toothpick) and slim down your nails so they look natural - not @ Impress. When we asked if they could buff them down so they weren't so thick, we were fed nonesense, something like "at this salon we don't do that, we are very knowledgeable and do them this way for a reason" - oookay, brushed that off too. I'm embarrassed to show my nails but I want others to see and learn from my experience! DO NOT GET A DIP MANI HERE !!!!! read more

Multiple times I ask for my nails to be cut as short as possible and he simply would not follow that instruction. Then there was one nail a lot longer than the rest and I asked him to make it shorter and he just ran the file across it once. Manicurist should follow guest requests regardless but in this case I requested my nails to be very short because they are very weak and flimsy. due to this I had to file/cut my own nails at home and ruin my manicure. Stay away! I went in a couple of days ago to have the dip powder nail treatment done. The woman who did my nails packed two of my cuticles so they were bleeding and also filed my nails so they are shorter in the middle and longer on the sides. The amount was $45. I gave a 15% tip because of how the woman did my nails and when I was checking out the owner said you can just give me the cash and I will give it to the nail tech. I gave her the cash and as I was walking out of the salon the owner yells out (insert nail techs name) she gave you $6 so I am going to give you $9. In front of all of the other patrons in the salon. I just couldn't believe she did that. I'm sorry that you felt 15% was not enough for your employee and felt the need to shout it out in front of all the others in the salon. I really wanted to like this place, as I am new to the area and close by. unfortunately, my experience was awful. Went in for a mani/pedi at a cost of $70.00. The pedicure barely lasted a half hour, basically a color change and brief (I'm talking about 1 minute) massage for each foot. Next was the Manicure. One girl took my polish off, the next girl cut my nails down as far as they could be cut! After she quickly cut the first two nails, I had no choice but to have them all cut that short. So, now comes the third girl, yes third. She barely flied and shaped my now stubs. then without any soaking whatsoever, she starts on my cuticles and quickly draws blood! At this point, she rushed and did a lousy job on the rest of my cuticles, quickly painted my nails and I was done. i was in and out of this place in under an hour for a mani/pedi! bad experience all around. they don't care about their clients, just rushing you in and out and getting paid. read more

Gave them one more try recently and this experience was even worse. Very sad. Felt rushed and like I was bothering them asking for what I wanted. Woohoo! This really is as good as it gets. Beautiful salon with big windows and plenty of light; freshly painted with new tiles; all clean everything. This is my new salon and I doubt I'll go anywhere else. The highlight for me was a perfectly organized nail polish wall, with Essie's new collection highlighted with stickers so you know what's what. I did wait a bit for my appointment, but I was content with waiting in the lounge on the beautiful white couches with a charger provided for my phone. My manicurist is a violinist at the conservatory, so she chatted about that. Very interesting! Not only was she friendly and interesting, but she did an amazing job on my manicure, which is unchipped after 5 days (regular man). Let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed :) Lee was super sweet and made conversation, but wasn't constantly chatting, which I appreciated. I got a pedicure (there are 4 to choose from and I went for the second to least expensive one) which was so relaxing. Between the massage chair, mud mask (for your legs?), hot stones, and foot massage, it was worth every penny (and it was quite a few pennies..) I also got a gel manicure which I'm super happy with, too! I'm only on day one, so I'll report back if it doesn't last long (but so far it looks great!) On days when I have some extra time, I like to treat myself to the lavender spa pedicure which leaves my legs and feet feeling super smooth and smelling amazing. Shoulder & leg massages and hot stone treatments seem to be a staple here as well as paraffin treatments which is a nice bonus. Regardless if I opt for the additional spa treatments my nails always look amazing. She went a bit too short on the nail - only asking me if it was a good length AFTER it was cut. So my nails are a bit uneven. She was a bit rough when pushing back the cuticles to the point it was a little uncomfortable. Paint was just okay - It started to chip on day 3. Color was a bit uneven. I'd go again in a pinch. I had been to this salon about a year ago or so for a pedicure. The service was really great and my pedi lasted a while. I returned as I was in the area for a meeting and this time around my experience was quite dreadful! I asked for a gel polish change for my toes, as I was in a hurry, but the tech recommended that I should do a full pedi, as she could fit it into the time frame I had available. The polish application looked great. The charge was $55 and the tech insisted that if I had to leave a tip on the receipt & did not have cash, I could not leave less than 15% - $8. This was a very highly priced pedi, as I usually go to other places in Boston and it is never of this price range. I also did not like that I was pressured into leaving a certain amount of tip. Not to mention that this did NOT include hot stones, or detailed buffing of your heels. As soon as I left the salon I noticed that quite a few of my toes had a lot of cuticles hanging. I went back inside and asked for 1 of them to be fixed as it was the worst one. After my feet dried even more I noticed that essentially all my toes were filled with cuticles. I am very disappointed as for $63 I was expecting to not have to redo my own cuticles. read more

This is our third time to Impress and we will not be going back. Three workers did four mani/pedis in under an hour. They rushed each one of us through the process. One of us walked out with four bleeding cuticles and a gel mainicure polish job that didn't even go to her cuticles. It was the worst manicure ever. Our pedicures didn't include all the steps. There was not a leg massage, the heel paraffin was on for literally less than a minute. We tipped really well and paid before they finished and we feel ripped off. Okay so me and my aunt went there 4 days ago and we both got dip Nails which are sort of like gel nails so they should last up to 2 weeks and it's been 4 days and my nail just cracked. Our experience there was very stressful because the whole time it seemed like the girls who did our nails didn't know what they were doing. halfway through my aunts manicure I guess the owner took over for her because the other girl had no idea what she was doing and like I get it everyone's a new manicurist when like you start like everyone is like that but, she didn't even know how to file right and my aunt told her like you don't need to file or a cut my cuticles I already did that and she like completely ignored her. It was just very stressful because it was like no one knew what they were doing and when I left there I didn't realize that I had scuffs on my nails from her because I just didn't see it and then my aunt was like we should go back and tell her that I was like no it's whatever I can just put a top coat on and on home and like I'll fix it and she was just like okay whatever and so I did that and I kind of fixed it but I still shouldn't have to do that but, I did. So like I wouldn't go here because I feel like most of them maybe know what they're doing but don't do a good job like if you want good Nails I would go somewhere else especially if like you have an event coming up or something. And they are $10 more there than everywhere else because we both got dip manicures and there were 45 which is like really expensive. Julia (the owner) responded immediately and confirmed that the time I mentioned would work. I arrived 5-10 minutes before the set time and they rudely said because they had an appt. 20 minutes before mine, they could not see me. Mind you, they also only had about 3 customers at the time.
