Don't let the fact that this Japanese restaurant is in a small east Texas town fool you! The food here rivals many much more expensive restaurants in the big city! The lunch crowd can be hectic, the evenings are much more laid back and relaxing. The menu selections are varied. With many locally "themed" rolls, but all the mainstream rolls are represented as well. The fish is nice and fresh...ask about options not on the menu, as there is fresh options offered daily. The hibachi grill offers a family friendly option for entertainment, with many dishes offered at the hibachi grill only. But the true test is the sashimi... fish as fresh as can be had without being within spitting distance of the ocean. The chefs choice platters are a great start, but as you learn what you like you do have the option of ordering each morsel separately. In Japan is not McDonalds, so bring at least 100 bucks so you don't sell yourself short. Eating here can be addicting, so plan your trips through East Texas accordingly! read more

The food here is great. Everything I've tried has been exceptional. Consistency is number 1. They have that covered. Environment is very clean and theme appropriate. The only thing preventing 5 stars is staff. We were first in when they opened and asked for grill. We were put in a cramped space against a column. Due to prosthetics, I need more room. I don't mention being a disabled Veteran as it sounds like I am looking for favoritism. When I asked to be moved to some seats with more space, the waitress said management would not allow it. I pointed out that my party of 3 was the only customers. She repeated that customers were assigned seats and that would not change. I waited for the cook to get to the grill before sitting. I tipped the cook for his awesome job then requested to go boxes. It was not the dine in experience I expected. We now order a couple of #19s to go and just do pick up. Food is great portions are great. I'll still eat the food, just not in their restaurant. I imagine if I wanted to embarass myself enough to publicly talk about my infirmities they would have moved me. However, I was just another customer. Anyone should be allowed to change seats, especially in an otherwise vacant restaurant. I only want to be treated like anyone else. While the waitress said It was management's decision, she was the one who didn't get a tip. Maybe that will help motivate her to not be inflexible or ask management to change draconian, nonsense policies if that was true. read more

This has always been a place for our family and friends to celebrate, gather and have a great time. After last night none of us will be back! That includes family and friends!! My bill had my son and I on it, $94 was my Total. I told our waitress she had given me the wrong bill turns out she did not. We ordered the chicken meal with a side of shrimp, both of us, when are bill came we were charged for four total combo meals. Two chicken meals and two shrimp meals. When we spoke with the manager she had told us you cannot add a side of shrimp to the chicken combo therefore we were charged for four total meals then we were charged for the rice as well. That is not what I ordered and the waitress did not tell us you could not order a side of rice she just went ahead and charged us for four meals and 2 sides of rice. They did not care to make it right! Therefore we are done! Bottom line, when I said I would like the Chicken meal add shrimp, she should have said you can't add shrimp you have to pay for 2 meals. If I paid for 4 meals I should have received 4 salads and 4 soups. I did not. I received 1. Poor communication with the waitresses!!!!!!! read more

All I can say is WOW! The hubs and I came for our Anniversary lunch. We were NOT disappointed! Everything was delicious, hot, fresh, and way more than what we could eat at one meal. Started with the crabcakes appetizer. It was amazing. ThenIhadthe soupand seaweed salad. Both wereonpoint and very flavorful. Hubs had the dinner salad. House dressing was great, but the salad was just iceberg lettuce and a few shredded carrots. A place of this caliber should know to take things up a notch. We ordered off the lunch menu. Hubs had shrimp tempura and I had grilled shrimp and veggies. Both were very good and the portion size required a to go container... we couldn't finish either plate. We will be back!!! 3 stars for a sushi restaurant located right off an East Texas Highway. In the city, I would probably give it 2 stars. I enjoyed my food enough, and the waitress was attentive and friendly. However, the particular rolls that I ordered were very heavily covered in mayo. I had to scrape off most of it, and I still thought it was too much. It was definitely not the best sushi I have had. But since it was right across the street from my hotel, I would eat here again if I came back to Marshall, and just order more carefully. read more

Went for my sons 16th birthday last week... trying to call ahead, but was told we don't take reservations.... We get there 20 minutes later and they tell us it's about a 30 minute wait because other people have walked in so we stay OK and wait after 30 minutes the other big party that was there gets sat and I go up to ask how much longer for us and they say another 30 minutes then a group of 10 walks in and goes straight to a hibachi grill right away so I asked the hostess what's up with that? I thought y'all don't take reservations she RUDELY replies they are VIP guests of the owner and get seated whenever they want first before anyone so I asked to speak to the manager she reiterates this and both are extremely rude and finally after another 45 minutes with a party of 10 one of which is a diabetic and needs to be eating at this point we get sat down and the waitress was the only good person we dealt with from that establishment that evening that hibachi cook we got was a dud. He had a mask on and had no interaction or personality. The food was cooked decent but nothing spectacular especially not for the $300 we dropped that night. We had a similar experience two years ago and had not been back to the hibachi since. We've tried it a few times at lunch, but the food was so salty, it was an inedible, needless to say we won't be back, they overcharge, the only hibachi I've ever been to that charges on top of there are ready high prices an additional $2.50 per plate for fried rice . Best restaurant for a hibachi place. Many sushi options, amazing for sushi lovers and non sushi lovers. So many entrees to choose from. Many sauces, nice staff and chefs. Is personally my favorite restaurant. I recommend the golden tiger and surf/turf. read more

Be careful, the fish isn't always fresh. Another issue is service. There's a very high turnover and most servers don't know the menu. We've stopped eating in the restaurant and will order for pick-up from time to time. There have been several times we had to throw sushi items out. read more

I've passed so many times on my trips to Marshall, and we happened to go for Mothers' Day. I was literally expecting a hole in the wall, darkly lit, frump-factory, but it was the opposite. Spacious, clean and bright. We sat in the middle area, but the Habachi was live and festive. My Mom had a great time and my step-dad plans to bring them back again. The menu is typical sushi-style. I safely ordered the California Rolls and Crab Cakes. My parents shared Hibachi Steak, my brother had some type of tempura rolls and my Mom had the clear soup and salad. All was good. The first thing you notice about this place is the wheely chairs that are surprisingly comfortable. I don't think I've been in a restaurant that had rollers. I ordered the seafood combination hibachi dinner (salmon and shrimp). The service was okay, it seems like all the waiters and waitresses are in high school. It took a while to get our spoons for soup, but they were quick. Food was great, although I didn't get why the house fried rice is $2.50 extra. Salmon and shrimp were both cooked well and I enjoyed the teriyaki sauce that it came with. I'm used to miso soup being served, but the soup appetizer that came out was a clear broth with one mushroom in it. The salad seemed fresh although they overdid the dressing. Overall, my total bill came out to $31 which I consider pricey. I also ordered a Sprite that was way too sweet. My coworker got a iced tea which was also too sweet "enough to make your teeth curl" according to him. Overall, the atmosphere is warm, space is open and the hibachi tables are off to the side. I'd recommend this place, but would warn you that it's not a cheap meal. read more

Okay it's not Japanese fine dining a la Nobu or Sushi of Gari, but for some random place off a highway in a remote part of Texas, wow is this good! Sushi rolls are well constructed, and quality of the fish is good (although not as fresh as what you find at the better places in NY/SF).
