The food was not very good(Especially for the price) the building was dingy looking and did not seem very clean. Once we finished our meal we notice a live infant roach crawling on the table and several dead roaches next to the table. Management did not even offer to to reduce or eliminate the bill! Pretty good hibachi for a small town. Service was really good, Jean Pierre cooked up our meal and was super attentive and sweet and a very nice young man. We got hibachi and sushi and overall, we felt the value was good for what we paid. Its not a typical sushi place. I ordered a "TITANIC', their special roll. I have never seen a sushi that big. The roll was covered with as much sliced crab meat as the size of the roll. Isn't crab meat supposed to be expensive? How can they just dump so much on a single roll. And the waitress was like, you get what you pay for. At least for Sushi, you don't judge a sushi by the size of it rather from the quality of fish used ( which looked like a frozen supermarket fish). The roll was all soggy and was covered with different kinds of sauce. No idea what they are made up of. Overall, the ambiance was nice, the service was good and sushi could have been better. The only thing I can say good about this place is the food wasn't terrible. Our waitress was very slow and didn't come check on us that much, our food took forever to come out and then we it was time to pay they took forever to come back and get our money. We got the Marshall roll which was pretty yummy. We did tell the manager how we felt about the service we received and he did take 10$ off our check. I'm shocked at the quality of the sushi found in Marshall, TX. I just had my 2nd visit (this is sushi week for my road trip) and it was better this time than the first. The first visit was several months ago and I was a bit disappointed with a roll that I didn't expect to be deep fried. It was good, and EXTREMELY large, but I try not to eat fried foods and only ate one, ok maybe 2, pieces. This visit I ordered a couple of simple rolls and was very happy. The first visit was a to go order, but this time I decided to dine in. Service was decent and I had a very attentive server. I will make this a must stop on my east Texas road trips !! read more

In town on business and In Japan was close. Taylor was my server, I sat myself at the sushi bar, she immediately served me with a smile. Ordered some sushi and a hibachi meal (didn't need to sit at hibachi table for that which was nice). Sushi was great and was served to me by the itamae (sushi preparer) within minutes, and meal was cooked to perfection. She checked back often and kept drinks full. Couldn't ask for better service. She split my tab too, I don't like charging my company more than allotted amount. Food on one, drinks on the other - and didn't even flinch! read more

Tonight's dinner was a mixed bag. On one hand, the food is always great and my server could not have been any nicer or more helpful. That being said, when I bring an out of town guest in and spend about $100 in, what I consider to be, a nice dinner restaurant, I do not expect what was going on in the dining room tonight. A group of 17-19 year olds treating the restaurant like their own private space. They used the F word so many times in rapid succession, I finally had to interrupt them and their waitress and let them know if I heard it any more, I was going to ask for the manager or owner to escort them out of the restaurant. There were young children seated throughout the building who could plainly hear their loud banter of cursing, degrading comments, and locker room humor. They all smirked and told me "yeah okay"; and not once did I see anyone other than the waitstaff on the floor monitoring how things were going or checking on guests. Pretty disappointing atmosphere tonight. If it is going to turn into a rowdy free for all in the dining room, not sure I'd want to return. read more

Yes, it's the only Japanese in town and it's the best in town unless Your willing to drive to Longview to go to GZ's or Shreveport to go to Tokyo ( I've heard that the owners also have Hana in Shreveport but we haven't tried it yet) I'm not a big hibachi fan but there's is good. I like to occasionally order just a side of filet mignon and it's always cooked to order and not overly seasoned. I order from the sushi menu and I'm working my way thru it to find my favorites! The Spicy Salmon Sashimi from the appetizer section is super yummy and at the top of my list. They do have a full bar, small sushi bar, a large dining area and enough hibachi grills so there's never a wait for a table. You are always quickly greeted at the door and the service staff are polite and efficient. read more

I have been to a lot of Japanese restaurants in America and In Japan's sushi is the best. Good atmosphere, clean, kind staff, I loved it.

I'm somewhat of a sushi snob and can't give more than 2 stars for my experience here. The service was great, but the sushi was not. I was also appalled by the prices, given the low quality of the sushi. I can get fantastic sushi in Dallas or Austin for the same price. Next time I'm in Marshall, I'll skip the sushi. read more

Poor service, inattentive waitress. First time ever trying sushi, we sat at the hibachi grill. I informed the waitress this was my first time and that I would like to try the special on the board. What I didn't know was that what I ordered didn't get me rice and salad nor was it cooked on the hibachi. They brought it to me 15 minutes before the cook finished on the grill so I was done with dinner before my friend even got his. The experience truly sucked. The waitress rarely came to ask if anyone at the hitachi we were sitting at wanted anything. When I told her I wanted a refill on water - why does she even have to ask, the glass is empty, refill it, that is what most waitresses do - I said yes and my friend did too. She brought him a new glass of ice water and brought me nothing. I was not being rude, unkind or indecent to her in any way, shape or form. After having watched all of this for 45 minutes I finally got up, went to the bar and got my own water from the bartender. I called the restaurant while sitting in the store. The manager attempted to tell me that "we are busy tonight" which apparently excused the abhorent service level. The demeanor of the "manager" was so lame on the phone I just gave up on it. I sat there for quite a while watching everyone eating and then when my friend was finally done, I paid the bill, left a dime on the bill tray and wrote "horrible service" on the ticket. I haven't done anything like that in at least 2 decades, I usually at least give 10%, but this scale of unbelievable nonsense deserved an insulting tip. BTW, they were no more busy than a place like, say, Texas Roadhouse. They had plenty of wait staff. The waitress was seen standing around talking, not taking care of customers. I paid $63 for the worst restaurant experience I have had in a long, long time. Unbelievablle. Edited: I forgot to add that the waitress handed us the wrong bill at the end. Not the end of the world but then when I put the credit card on the tray and got it back after being billed? She handed me another family's credit card and bill back! read more

I'm in the process of updating my local reviews. The old review pretty much stands here. Sushi is remarkably good for a place out in the Piney Woods of East Texas. It would get three stars in Dallas, but here, I'll give it four. But the rest of the menu barely merits two stars. Very iffy. Stick to the sushi. read more

The serve works at a sushi place but doesn't like sushi so he couldn't recommend anything since i t was our first time. the tempura shrimp in our sushi was cold. We are from Fort Worth and have to say this is some awesome hibachi and sushi! Very fresh and super cold beer too. :) Troy waited on us and he was very informative and persistent. He made our experience more enjoyable. One thing... Instead of helping us out and getting siracha real quick because we forgot to ask Troy when he was just at our table, the older gentleman working the hostess stand told another female who then told our waiter Troy (It looked like he was getting hassled when we forgot to ask for something when he was at our table 1 minute before). It just seemed to be a bigger deal than it should have been. Team work will always get you further. Why not help out a fellow employee if you aren't doing anything? Any way all in all... The fried rice and vegitables tasted nasty like it was taken out of the trash can. Very bad experience with the food and service. We had Hibatchi tonight, but it was very salty. There were 3 three couples and two kids including us in the table. The Asian guy who did the cooking and serving purposely gave us much less meat & veggitable than the other people for no reason. At the end of the meal, all the other families had pretty food left to be taken home, but we got nothing. We were so disappointed at the service and food there. Never come back. read more
