I used to come here all the time when I lived in Marshall. I loved getting a Togo plate and taking it to work for lunch or even dinner. However these containers they are using now are so tiny. I don't think my pictures do it justice for how small the containers are. Disrespectful. And the price increased. What really am I paying for. On another note the little food I did get was relatively fresh. I enjoyed it. Not my go to spot anymore. I guess if I are in and did the buffet it would be worth the price. But everyone knows you get full from American Chinese and then you're hungry later. read more

So we gave this place a chance despite the recent reviews. I can't stress enough how important it is to listen to recent reviews. The food looked great but alas it was not. Everything had an odd flavor profile except the fruit. The baked crab tasted as though it had mayonnaise in it. The black pepper chicken was so sweet with no spice that could be detected. The sweet tea was basically syrup and it's almost like they put sugar in everything. The service was absolutely horrible from beginning to the end. They ended up not taking American Express and got an attitude about it when she brought my card back even though the tray clearly had an American Express logo on it. So I paid in cash and she never brought back my change she just continued to do other things. Well that's theft but we were too tired to deal with her and her attitude. The food is just okay. It's typical of mediocre Chinese buffets everywhere. What you have to look out for is that when you pay with a CC they always charge an extra fee, it's usually about $2.00. They won't say anything unless you ask, and when they do it's always a tip or something. read more

Sushi wasn't that great but the food was pretty good for a Chinese buffet. Just expect a small town China buffet that's actually good

Bordering on 4 Stars, this basic Chinese buffet is situated in a shopping center that (FINALLY!) has gotten a makeover. New parking lot, fresh facade on most of the store fronts, and China King was one of them. During the center's clean-up, China King also closed briefly for improvements. It's much cleaner and brighter than before for sure, but pretty much the same place. Ceiling tiles have been replaced except for the ones with a sprinkler head in them. The carpet has been deep cleaned. A few new decorations here and there. Some fresh paint on the walls. Two flat screen TV's replaced the old-school tube sets that hand over a few of the tables in the middle (almost always tuned into CNN). And almost all the same food fare as before, with the noted exception of a small sushi area. Good, simple sushi - freshly made by someone actually standing there making it. Nothing too exotic, but tasty good stuff! A tad pricey for some ($8.29 Lunch buffet and $1.95 for a drink - I assume water is free, but wouldn't swear to it), but I like the food. And now that it's cleaned up and has a nicer sushi offering, I will keep going back. read more

From the Marshall News Messenger 1/16/19: Marshall foodies wanting to dine at China King Buffet, located at 1004 E. Grand Avenue, were met with alarming news Tuesday as the restaurant was shut down due to health and fire code violations. Fire Chief Reggie Cooper released a statement Wednesday stating the violations were discovered during a routine inspection. "Upon discovery of these life safety violations, it was determined to issue the Stop Work Order effective immediately. Once the necessary corrections have been made the Stop Work Order may be lifted," Cooper said in the release. The report from the Marshall Health Inspector stated China King was in need of cleaning and noted not only signs of rats, mice and roaches, but also standing water in the restrooms and under the dishwasher. The report from the Marshall Fire Department stated the portable fire extinguishers were in need of being serviced and the carpet in the storage room was heavily saturated in cooking oil and was fire hazard risk. China King Owner Yangming Wang said rats had made their way into his restaurant through holes in the back delivery doors. "They come in for the warmth and it's always warm in a kitchen," Wang said, adding he believes the holes are the responsibility for the landlord to fix. Wang reported the range hood fire extinguisher recently broke down. "When it rains it pours," Wang said. "We hope to be open in about a month. We're going to take the time to remodel and give the restaurant a facelift." Wang stood in front of his restaurant, Wednesday, greeting regulars and would-be patrons with the sad news. "We are appreciative of the support we have received from the community," Wang said. We have invested 16 years into Marshall and we hope to be open again soon." read more

The food was delicious. The staffs were nice. My husband was pessimistic about it since it has 2,5 stars. But I wanted to give it a try. I had take out boxes and it was nice. Just like chinese food supposed to be, since I am asian and I know how it should taste. read more

This place is great when it comes to getting your bang for your buck. Came here for dinner and to my surprise the bill came out to $12 with a drink! All you can eat buffet for that much is a steal. Pretty standard Chinese food, come here if you're hungry. The service was alright, our plates weren't taken away until a while later. I wouldn't fight my way to get here, but when other restaurants are closed, this one is open late even on Sundays. read more

I had lunch here today. The food was cold. The table next to me asked to have her plate heated up. The manager came to her table and proceeded to YELL at her. He told her to go to the Italian place down the street. He berated her for several minutes. Everyone in the restaurant could hear him! She walked out and I was right behind her. I've never seen anything like this. I will never walk in to a China King restaurant as long as I live. I'm calling the corporate office and I hope this jerk gets fired. Went to eat here for dinner tonight. Like most Chinese buffets, the food was cold, and tasted like it had been sitting their all day. The staff was not very friendly. Acted like they all had too much to do and not enough time to do it. They barely peel the shell off their shrimp before its fried. The cold boiled shrimp was pleasant. read more

This is our favorite Chinese food in town with a wide variety of choices. The buffet has smaller hot areas for each dish. That way they're always bringing out fresh food every 30 min or so. They also have pizza, fried fish, and chicken nuggets for kids. They have sushi too and a good fruit selection. The owner has changed so no yelling. read more

food smelled funny and tasted a little old, only one section of the restaurant was available and all costumers were sat to close, maybe 3 ft apart not 6 ft, upon arriving two tables started to loudly mock and make fun of my family for wearing masks and even started coughing obnoxiously loud (RIGHT next to my mother who has a long history of health problems) to get our attention when we ignored them staff heard all this and let this happen until my family and I decided to leave, not only were we uncomfortable the whole time, we also spent 45+ dollars on a meal that tasted like left overs we have to do better ‍ read more

This is your typical Chinese buffet. I arrived post-makeover of the strip mall, so things look fairly standard. The food is delicious, but as someone with dietary restrictions, its sometimes difficult to pick out what's okay to eat due to poor labeling of the trays. But for a flat buffet fee, you can certainly stock up with a full belly. read more
