This was our first time and we really enjoyed it. We ordered the chicken enchilada potato and the chili cheese burger potato along with the fried pickles. Everything was super tasty. The only thing we would have liked is extra sauce on the side. The potato soaked up all the sauce and left me wanting more. I was heading to the Cowboy's house to watch some football and I wanted to bring food, so I suggested loaded baked potatoes to pick up on my way over. I got the Chicken Fried Steak loaded potato and he got the hot wing potato. The food was ready immediately once I arrived and was wrapped up well for the road. When I got to my location, we took out the potatoes to go to town and were surprised they were still nice and warm. Oh...my...goodness. The chicken fried steak potato was PERFECT! Big cubes of seasoned and breaded fried steak smothered in white pepper gravy and cheese all over the potato...it was like mashing up your steak and potatoes and gravy all at once and going to town. My god it works so well. I can't believe I questioned how it would taste. And the hot wing potato was just out of this world. Loaded fried chunks of TENDER breaded chicken breast tossed/drenched in the best hot wing sauce covering the entire potato and then dressed all with ranch and bleu cheese...it was just so good. Chicken breast can be dry AF and they managed to keep it tender for this. Way to go. You may think some of these flavor combinations won't work well, but trust me...they do. This place is tiigghhht. Lol and as that I mean it was small inside. It started to get a little busy and we could all barely move around eachother when leaving. girl cashier was not very helpful or nice. Noticed she was nice and patient with others though.. potato was well cooked and tasted good with the hot wing in it. The burger had good flavor to it and fries were good . I ordered the chicken fried chicken baked potato. It came loaded with gravy, butter and Texas toast. The bread was toasted to perfection and crispy with lots of lots of butter. My wife ordered the hot wing ranch spud with homemade ranch. She said it was delicious, hot and spicy! Our child got the cheese ranch spud loaded with shredded cheddar cheese. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! You have not had a baked potato until you've had one from this ranch. The flavor combinations make it hard to pick just one but I had the brisket baked potato and it did not disappoint. Mom had the chicken & broccoli spud and both potatoes were ginormous! Fluffiest baked potato I have ever had and the fixings were plentiful. We also enjoyed chatting with our server, Naielle(I'm sure I've misspelled her name,sorry). She was super sweet and witty. Came here with my family for dinner about a week ago. The cashier was friendly and place seemed clean. We had a plain spud and a bbq brisket one. Brisket was not flavorful and tasted like it came from a package. I would not order that one again. We had sweet tea which was hardly sweet and tasted old and moldy. I'm guessing the container needed a good scrub. They even replaced it upon me saying it wasn't fresh and the new tea tasted the same. I've checked their current menu prices, and the same can be said today. At the time, a baked potato with cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, butter, pico de gallo and beef fajita meat along with a bottomless drink and including free chips and salsa could be had elsewhere in town for under $5. An equivalent beef fajita spud here with large drink and a bag of chips set me back nearly $10! The food was fine, but it's just not reasonably priced. Was visiting Austin, went tubing in San Marcos, was incredibly hungry after tubing so stopped by Spud Ranch. Very tiny place. Menu consisted of different types of baked potatoes from chicken fried steak baked potato to vegetable baked potato. I had a hard time choosing one because they all sounded so good and flavorful. I really like this little restaurant! I eat here nearly everytime I am in San Marcos. The potatoes are LARGE, FILLED with TOPPINGS and VERY DELICIOUS!! Talk about hidden gem. This restaurant is located on aquarena springs and if you are coming from I-35 it is the last strip center on the left before you reach Bobcat Stadium. You have to look carefully because the place itself is pretty small. Everyday they offer a "daily Spud" which is one of their award winning potatoes with a variety of toppings, plus a drink for a total of 8$ plus tax. The first time I went in I had the brisket spud which I highly recommend. I've also had the chicken fried steak spud, and chicken broccoli and cheese spud. Both are very good as well. Each time I've gone in it has taken less than 10 minutes to receive my order, and when I leave I am FULL. The potatoes are extremely big. I also recommend going to eat there earlier in the day so you can try their brownies. They only make a certain amount each day and they run out quickly. I had the caramel brownie... Talk about perfection. They also have more than just potatoes. For example sandwiches, burgers and other things... That I can't remember. Love Spud Ranch! I wish they would develop a chain of this concept! There's a location in New Braunfels and at San Marcos so it's a real treat when I get to make it out there. If you're a lover of potatoes this is the your heaven. Main entrees are baked potatoes stuffed with anything you like. They do have set choices like the philly cheese steak. Appetizers include jalapeño poppers, tots, fried mushrooms, and more. Service is fast and food usually comes out within minutes. Potatoes are super hot so be careful of burning your tongue. There's options where you can create your own baked potato but I think it's cheaper to go with one of the set menus. I usually get the Philly cheesesteak since beef is my favorite meat. Beef is really tender and kept warm by the potato. The one in San Marcos wasn't the best in service though. I asked for extra cheese and I didn't find any. I went back to the register to get extra butter and also told them I didn't find extra cheese. The lady said it was on the bottom of my potato. She also charged me for the butter ($.49). I searched through the potato and nothing was there. Only what was sprinkled on top was it. I had better service at New Braunfels location! read more
